I started finding the traps at about 45,25. Some of the traps contain the quest item, and others contain wolves that give you the quest item after you convince them.

The actual traps are kind of hard to get your cursor to land on, just move your cursor around until you find the trap and can open it.

I got a pretty low drop rate from the traps, definately less than 50%. Most of the time I got a Prowling Worg, instead.

the prowling worgs, that spawn from part of the traps, can drop the prey as well.

I much better luck finding these around 51,13 (on the map, in the gap next to "Camp" and above "hoof" in "Camp Winterhoof"

For those with stealth,druids and rogues,you can stealth just as the progress bar hits 100 %,that way you can avoid having to fight the worg if he shows up,and if it's prey just pick it up again.

It's a good idea to do Down to the Wire quest as well since Spotted Hippogryph Down is also in the area.

I found quite a few traps around North Spear Tower, and yes, also do they hypogryph at the same time. Both the worgs that appear after you open the traps themselves drop the Trapped Prey.

I had to put my pet on passive before I received any trapped prey instead of the worgs.

If you're a hunter you can just use your track beasts ability and they will be shown as "Trapped animal".
And those worgs do drop trapped preys sometimes so don't run away from them :)

From what I can tell, if you look at the trapped animal if if is a baby wolf then it will spawn a wolf.
So if you don't want to fight, don't pick a trap with a baby wolf in it.

Edit: other traps with no wolf pup seem to spawn a wolf rarely

Easy way to do this quest as a priest:

Open up a trap. When you get a worg, don't kill it. Instead, bubble yourself and run around finding other traps. 100% drop rate until the worg dies, and the worg might even give you the quest item upon dying as well.

Ive done this quest 2 seperate times on 2 toons.

First toon, i got no worgs. Not one worg spawned.

Second toon, i had 7 worgs spawn, and only 2 dropped the trapped prey.

Now, on another toon today on 4/13/2010 I have got 14 worgs ONLY and all the trapped preys.

My experience was different from Yatoshi's post 'Trapped Prey' (1/8/09). While a worg did show up on three of the traps, I did get the prey after defeating the worg.

Pair this quest with 'Down to the Wire' and 'The Yeti Next Door.' All three are Fort Wildervar quests that can be completed in the same area, west to north-west of Wildervar.

Randomly set about the forest south of Fort Wildevar. Very annoying quest, got the first 6 easy as pie then the next 10 or so yielded a Prowling Worg which even when beaten you dont get the prey.

Glad to meet you. I've come here from the Grizzly Hills to do business with your cohorts. My people maintain a large outpost there, and you'd do well to visit it when you head north.

I've set up traps in the woodlands and snowy areas around here. With the meat and the furs from the creatures they capture, I'll have plenty to barter with the townspeople.

I can offer you a share of my profits if you're willing to help gather prey from the traps. Beware though, you won't be the only predator out there.
