This is a "once per day" quest. You are only allowed 10 different of these types to be completed each day.

To see when it's a new day, hover the mouse over the "Daily: X/10" that's located on the upper right part of your questlog. X is the amount of dialy quests you have completed the current day.

I really recommend gimping your damage when wrangling doing this quest. Going in with full epics, etc. can sometimes lead to the Ray dying before the message (Aether Ray appears ready to be wrangled) pops up.

For classes with a slowfall spell and an instant cast damage spell, a technique to catch rays during a peak time when you can't find any on the ground is to fly above the ray, dismount and cast slowfall, and then cast your instant damage spell. The ray will follow you to the ground where you can proceed to wrangle it.

You can bring them back to the landing to drop off early so you don't have to have 5 following you around at the end

Hunter Guide:

Find your ray, shoot it, sic your pet on it and keep shooting, at roughly 1100HP it will become ready so Stay your pet and hit escape. Hunters will understand that a badly timed crit can piss you off majorly in this Quest so a quick reflex on stay/escape is vital.

Another option is the tried and tested freeze tame, same way you would tame a pet, shoot it down to low health, daze it, trap it, tame it.

If you take too long, the rays you already wrangled, will disappear from your leash. But have no fear, the game keeps track of how many you have, so you do get the count towards 5 rays...

And btw you can't bring them to Shattrath. They will disappear one by one while you are flying :(

I suggest that you don't use any DoTs so as not to accidentally kill these guys. They are wrangleable once they reach 40%.

you also dont need to wrangle them yourself, go in a group, and only one person needs to wrangle them.

a great tactic is to get 1 (or more) killing random mobs and have another wrangling the rays.

Also works with the other dailies (bombing and banish more demons)

edit: killing random mobs for the purpose of not letting mobs attack the guy doing the wrangling*

As of WotLK if you do this quest you only get 4.40g as reward. Makes me a sad panda.

Keep in mind to keep your damage as a Death Knight low especially for those with the Blood Spec of Bloodworms. If you damage too much the Bloodworms will have a chyance to spawn and attack your ray before the lasso effect fully takes and thusly your ray is dead.

As a 80 arms warrior doing this quest you have two valid options, either equip level 60 greens or go hang yourself.

I learned this the hard way. As a DK of any spec, you can either unequip your weapon and punch them down to 40% or drop a Death and Decay and kite them out of it once the message appears. These are the only two methods I found that won't result in the Ray's instant death. Just be careful not to auto attack.

Wanna help the Skyguard and Ogri'la?

Just hear me out before you walk away, <hot stuff/girly>. We're in need of remounts! The bombing runs and missions to Bash'ir Landing have taken a toll on our mounts.

The aether rays that fly around Vortex Pinnacle, and the Crystal Spine to the northeast, look like they'd do just fine. You don't even have to bring them back here, though that would be nice. Just break and rope them, and we'll track them down later.

Just a friendly tip for other enhance shamans doing this. Take windfury off your weapons. One lucky crit string, and you'll kill the fragile little things.

Step 1: Simply walk up to an Aether Ray and attack it until an emote pops up that says that the Aether Ray is ready to be wrangled.

Step 2: Use the Wrangling Rope, wait ~4 seconds, and the Aether Ray should be tied up to you.

Info:

1. You don't need to bring the Aether rays to Skyguard Khatie before they dissapear, you will still get credit for turning in the quest after they dissapear.

2. Some Aether Rays fly up in the sky, they can easily be brought down to ground level with a ranged weapon, or a spell.

Thats pretty much it!

Tips:

1. Don't use heavy hitting attacks / spells once you get them to 40%

2. This quest is better soloed, as its hard to coordinate with your friend to stop attacking the Ray before it is killed, as both of you are attacking it.

A must have daily IMHO. :D
Gold reward is missed in the description above. Besides the apexis shards the quest pays ca. 11g.

So, I hope that you're up to helping us wrangle up even more aether rays! From what I can see, you're a natural with the rope! And it's for a good cause, because not only do we get fresh mounts, but it helps us to protect Ogri'la, which the ogres appreciate.

Remember, the aether rays fly around Vortex Pinnacle, and the Crystal Spine to the northeast.
