This mount has been confirmed by others to drop in Vault of Archavon. I don't know if there's a requirement of it being HC though. It doesn't carry vendors (as the tooltip doesn't say anyway).

Dropped today for me in 10 man Vault.

The mount has about 8k health and does not take falling damage. (Meaning we can jump off dalaran and live).

Got this mount today from 10man Vault of Archavon.
About to submit a screenie to WoWhead.
No vendors - but has room for two passengers.
I can confirm that it does NOT take ANY falling damage at all. Just keep on truckin'!

There's also an interesting...bug... that allows me to mount on my Blizzard bear mount onTOP of my mammoth.

EDIT: As of 3.1 the rider now takes falling damage and can no longer summon an extra mount ontop of the mammoth.

This mammoth does benefit from aspect of the pack if the hunter sits in one of the backseats.

EDIT: This has been changed in patch 3.10. Aspect of the pack no longer increases it's speed.

In patch 3.10 this mount has also been INCREASED IN SIZE. The mammoth is now bigger then regular mammoth and has the same size of a wooly mammoth.

This also means the mammoth no longer fits under the Stormwind gates from the Mage Quarter, I regularly get stuck under those while travelling from Dalaran to the Stormwind AH.

I got this mount yesterday from 10 man Vault (VOA). I have been trying several things with it, they include:

Jumping from heights, Letting people on, Trying to kick people off.

From my testing, i can conclude that:

-This mount has 8k hp

-This mount does not take fall damage, neither do you.

-Mount cannot die from fall damage, you will never have to resummon it due to fall damage.

-Only way to remove party members from mount is to desummon it.

-This mount acts as a vehicle

- It has NO Vendors.

I won it while i had ML, i did not ninja like some of the above posts, won it fair and square with a 96 out of 100

This dropped in 10man VoA today, and I rolled a 100 on it... woot! How can you guys know for sure if anyone on the server has gotten it before you? Is there a way to check how many people on a realm (Earthen Ring for me) have a certain achievement?

Anyway, I spent a solid hour taking friends around and jumping off everything in sight :)

so i ran VoA 25 man today and it dropped, then i went to a 10 man right after, and it dropped again! :D..lost both rolls though heh, oh well.

I cannot find the droprate for this mount here at Wowhead. Understandable since it's a pretty new drop.

WoWDB says tho, that the droprate is wooping 0.04%. 0_o

One of my guildies got it and he's a hell of a lucky bastard =P - 34 win roll in VoA 25. ML admitted later that he was actually going to ninja loot it, but apperently he did'nt. An angel must have been whispering in his ears...

I would like to clarify that the Reins of the Grand Black War Mammoth can drop in both 10 and 25 man. I personally have seen the 25 man drop one, and comments here state that it dropped in 10 man as well.

Basically, Archavon has a chance to drop this mount regardless of the difficulty, now if the drop rate is different from 10 to 25 I do not know.

Funny story just happened for a friend of mine in VoA 25-man.
With 5 min left untill a new wintergrasp battle, they had downed the boss. The mount and some warrior loot dropped, but the ML was an idiot and couldn't work out how to deliver the loot untill they got trown out of the instance.

The lesson here is: don't start a VoA 15 min before wintergrasp resett!

To summarize all the "information" being downranked :

It drops in Vault
If it's on Master Looter : Always expect rare vanity loot in PuGs to be ninja'ed
If it's on Group Loot : You can win this by rolling higher then someone else

In short, we realize it drops in 10 or 25 man vault, we're sorry it got ninja'ed from you or congrats that you won it your first time with a high roll. If your post contains this redundant information, or things already well covered by previous posters, expect it to be downranked.

Note:
I'm a paladin and I do not have points in speed talent. When I have crusader aura on this mount's speed is not affected by it.

Also I've tried racing other mounts and mammoths and they beat me both when running and walking. I tried with many people and I'm sure they all don't have speed increase talent/enchant.

Is it just me or this mount is slower?

As for patch 3.1 this now drops from the new boss in Valut, "Emalon the Storm Watcher". More chance getting it :)

Saw this drop on 25man Emalon, then again today on 10man Emalon (which I won!). Same week, both from Emalon, increased rate perhaps? I'm historically not very lucky so it's gotta be a rate increase. =p

Someone needs to call D.E.H.T.A. because Blizzard mutilated this thing. No more immunity to fall damage, no more 130% speed from Aspect of the Pack, no more throwing Baby Spice at just the Mammoth while the rider stays the same size. Its crowning feature is now its ability to get 3 people stuck in a doorway at once.

I lost the first one with a 78 and was pleasantly surprised when a second one dropped and i rolled a 92. :)

This just dropped from 10 man Emalon from a quick guild run. I lost the roll with a 46, but paid the winner 3000 gold, and he passed it to me.... I enjoy being rich :P

Won this tonight on my first 10-man VoA from Archavon with my druid (who hit 80 tonight). Rolled 100 before a DK that rolled 93. Might sell it to a hunter that wanted to buy it, he was going for the 100-mounts achievment, and I do not really like the looks of mammoth's.. *hides*

Don't use this mount to run your friends off of IF into the lava to kill them....I tried it to my bro, it caused us both to DC and i couldnt log on till i was dead and finally it let me back on as a ghost. He, however, was unable to log on at ALL and had to contact a GM >.>

So if you plan to kill your friends, make sure you dismount as you fall to avoid this bug.

The Reins of the Grand Black War Mammoth is a 3 person Mount with NO Vendors, it doesnt take fall damadge, you do. If you want a mount with vendors that is the Travelers Tundra Mammoth. (Sry no hyperlink) It is 1 of the 3 3 person mounts, the others are the Grand Ice Mammoth and Travelers Tundra Mammoth (Again, No link) Which can be bought for a large amount of Gold. The Ice Mammoth is bought by getting Revered from the Sons of Hodir Fraction while the Tunra mammoth is bought in Dalaran.

Fortunately on my second 25 VOA (9/15/09) this mount dropped everyone in grp said watch it get ninja'd i personally did not care, but the loot master rolled 1-25 and got a 16 i was 16 in raid and recieved loot. I immediately recieved offers of 2-3k but was not interested needless to say i had 20+ grp members #$%^ed at me but personally i thought that was the fairest way i've seen a mount passed out.(mind you i have never grouped with the L/M nor know him in any way) but it is a baddass mount, i have heard of a mammoth being a siege vehicle please let me know if you know anything about this

This mount CAN drop multiple times in one run from difference bosses. Today dropped from Koralon and then from Emalon as well.

I think it should be noted that while it can make traveling in cities difficult, the height provided allows one to run through small rivers and streams that a smaller mount would otherwise swim (and thus slow down to swim speed).

I'd also like to note that while crossing deeper bodies of water, the mount drowns your passengers. They are sitting low enough that they get the "breath" bar when in deep water, but the driver stays above water.

Did VOA 25 man today for the first time. Rolled 100 and got this "The Reins of the Grand Black War Mammoth" . Beginners luck or what. Was pretty satisfied with the run even though I didnt get any gear :D

I have managed to win this twice during two VOA 25 man pugs.

The second time I never even realised I had won the raid roll until someone whispered me asking if I wanted to sell it.

Sold it for 3K gold. I'm happy and the buyer was happy too.

So i was running a casual VoA 25 man when we got to emalon, i have never seen this drop before and when Emmy went down i checked the loot to my amazement there it was! So after seeing this i thought to myself, theres NO way the Master Looter is gonna pass that up and right after he says Sorry guys! and loots if half the raid just up and leaves! Then he laughs and tells the few remaining JK he wanted to have less ppl rolling so all of us rolled (I didnt win) but someone won with a legit roll of 100.

I got this mount and it's the best I have out of my 35 or so ground mounts.

Helping mountless low level guildies is a lot easier now. Taking them to the instance is as well.

Has anyone else noticed that it drops a lot more on archavon and emalon ever since toravon came out? i was wondering if they increased the drop rate on those 2 in order to coax people into staying for the full raid, rather then just dropping group after koralon.

Heh. I saw this drop and won the roll with an 82 . Not a big fan of mammoths, being a night elf, I look odd, in my opinion. I also hate how high up I am, meh. 3 person mount is just for e-peen, so, I sold it off to a guy who wanted it pretty badly for 7k. It looks very cool from the screenshots. It has dropped in 10 man, since most people claim to have only seen it in 25 man, just to dispel the rumors that it doesn't drop in 10. Dropped off of Toravon.

Well this just dropped in VoA off the fire guy and I The Raid leader gave it to the highest roller. a guy from the enclave guild . that i didnt notice till the end . so he commences to prance around and out of no where a druid ghanks him . lol so good triumphs in the end .
