Worth the mats?

A similar discussion was made about this item's sister craft, the Titanium Spellshock Ring. With little knowledge of end-game 10-man and 25-man drops, I will do my best to project this item's longevity relative to end-game drops.

I compared this amulet with currently available (3.0.3) items of higher item levels: 213 and 226. Where and who you get these drops from is beyond the scope of this post.

It required 2 comparisons on WoWHead to get all the items to fit within the page parameters and I have eliminated ALL PvP earned amulets just for the sake of Raid-only item drops (feel free to post your own comparisons of PvP items as they are likely relevant):
Highest End with a few 213 level amulets
and
The remaining 213 level amulets

Relative to the Highest 2 neck pieces, the Life-Binder's Locket and the Wyrmrest Necklace of Power, the Titanium Spellshock Necklace is a very distant 3rd.

The remaining comparision is certainly an area of debate. The red socket of this amulet is very appealing for a Runed Scarlet Ruby if you are after spell power. It really depends on your class, spec and individual tasts, but this amulet is certainly comperable to end-game amulets and if you happen to be a JC you can gem it with a prismatic (Note: Please do NOT put a Runed Dragon's Eye into this slot... save it for a non-red slot and pop a Runed Scarlet Ruby in there if you're trying to maximize your spellpower)

In addition, consider that for every ring drop, each desiring raid member has two potential replacements; however, for an amulet there is a single replacement, thus a guild will (over time) likely gear up the neck piece more quickly than a ring piece.

In the end, despite having not gone into the sources of the compared amulets, this necklace is indeed worth a serious consideration not only because of it's stats, but also because of the flexibility inherant in having a socket. I personally believe that if the stats on this ring are important to you, then you won't be replacing it for a long time.

The others require at least 2 raids to get the quest & fulfill quest requirements for the reward.

Two 25-man raids, no less!

Definitely worth getting, especially as the cost drops almost daily as folk flood the market with Dragon's Eyes (the only truely expensive material) bought by levelling a JC alt to do the dailies. On my server, it's down to ~2k gold, the equivalent of roughly 3 days of dailies, and less if you just cost the mats and a fee.

As a FFB spec raiding mage already hit capped, this is the best neck in slot becuase it has the +Crit, +Spell Power, Red Socket and good stats. And like EVERYONE else has said before, do NOT use a prismatic in this neck piece. Hope this helps.

I tend to agree. This necklace is not going to be something long term for someone raiding. However it is great for people who have first hit 80 and need some good gear to get their DPS up for raids.

As far as socketing this with a runed dragons eye I would only do this if you are prepared to resocket this with a runed scarlet ruby later once you do have blue sockets you need to set gems in. This also only applies if the $$ you need for dragon's eyes is not a big deal.

As a holy paladin, this neck is far superior to the badge of heroism neck when paired with an orange Int + Sp gem

So as a resto shaman, would it be a good idea to get this and the Titanium Spellshock ring for gearing for heroics? To me it doesnt seem like sacrificing the mp5 would be a HUGE deal. They are currently much better than what I already have, and they would also make nice elemental pieces when dual-speccing is available. What do you guys think?
