The drop rate is substantially higher than that mentioned in the dropped by tab. Mine dropped in only a handful of beast kills around the big yellow thing. A dreadsabre I believe.

This is a zone drop. And as with all random drops, you might get really lucky and get it off the first beast you kill, or really unlucky and never loot it during the time you quest in Sholazar Basin.

The Questhelper mod suggests killing Meatpie ( https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/npc=28188 ) at the base of the Suntouched Pillar in Swindlegrin's Dig. I took this advice and got it off my second kill of him. This could very well be a fluke but questhelper said it was best to farm off him and thats who i got it off of fairly quickly. Just a suggestion if your not having luck anywhere else.

4 kills from Meatpie. Perhaps luck, but with all the people that seem to be getting it from him, the case that he has a higher chance seems to be mounting.

After reading what Larrylaffer said, i asked all my friends if it was worth getting. Most of them said that you'll never complete it anyways and that its just a waste of a ''Quest-Space''. But i said, what the heck, might aswell.
And I got it on the first kill :)

EDIT: While leveling another character i noticed that if you stay in Sholazar Basin for 1 level or less you probably wont complete it, more then that and you got a great chance of completing :)

Not relative to the quest per se, but the comments I am seeing here.

As of writing this all the comments are encouraging over the low drop rate, and seem to enjoy it.

Blizzard obviously must be using some sort of subliminal mind control in the basin to make everyone behave kindly to each other.

Just pick up the quest at the beginning of your Sholazar questing adventures, and you'll probably complete it by the time you clear the zone. Just let it sit in your quest log and don't worry about it.

if you've already done the chain to pick between the oracles and the frenzyheart i recomend you pick this quest up while your doing the dailies where you have to kill 50 attackers of the opposite faction like:
Kartaks's Rampage
or for oracles
Mastery of the Crystals
The best part about doing It Could Be Anywhere with these quests is that provided you do damage to the mob, you can let the warring npc's kill the one you've attacked and you will still get the loot!
And these mobs dont have to much HP so if your really desperate you could just farm them.

Got this within about 5 minutes of getting the quest from a Venture Co. Excavator. Like others have said, just get this right off the bat when you get to Shalazar Basin. Since the drop rate is highest off the Venture Co. guys, that's a good place to start.

Sigh of relief! I found Chad's Ring after I completed first, the Misadventure Venture Co and then the Escort Run from the NPC Down in the Crystal Pit. I whacked some number of mobs, maybe 15 more than needed, but by the posts above, one is not sure. I mixed up the variety of mobs I hit as well. But I figured might as well hit some extra every where I went down there. Posts above were helpful, for the most part, in what to expect. Glad I found it! Thanks!

Actually got it on one of the first few kills.

The best place to look for these is at The Suntouched Pillar. Every Venture Co. member there has a 3% drop rate.

Generally an easy drop to get, on the 3 chars I have leveled i have gotten it before finishing the last part of the Drostran chain.
Also I would like to add that the Venture Co. members just north of Nesingwary's camp seem to have dropped it the most for my friends. See if you can grab it while doing the escort quest or sometime before you finish Meatpie and Foreman Swindlegrin. If you don't get it by time you finish finish the zone, don't drop it quite yet! It is rumored that the dailes from either the Frenzyheart or The Oracles that require killing of each other can drop it.

Get the quest.
Let it sit in your quest log.
Ignore the drop rates.
It will turn up sometime off something in the zone.
You will probably have it before you finish your 60 game kills (another quest to accept and let sit).
