Maybe Arms Warrior and Ret pala but all I think of now is DK ^^.

This can also replace your Gladiators 2h weapon (Almost merci too)

After doing some testing on a 71 DK with full Northrend Greens I did about 50 more dps on average with this weapon than with https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=35576 which drops off the last boss in Untgarde Keep.

I can confirm that all the starting quests, including the quest to obtain this item, are all available and do-able at level 68. So glad I didn't stick around in Outland, I'm even leveling way faster. And to someone up there, yes, +strength and +hit is a godsend for Fury. I'll be picking up Ingvar's axe soon.

As for my Warrior this quest line was lovely! I got a plate head off the pre-Quest and also the axe to upgrade my Combatant Sword.

This is interesting. I looked into this a little bit from a math perspective and that number (50 DPS gain) seems high. Maybe it's spec dependent, but I chose to use a Blood spec rotation. Here's the model I used (when maintenance is over, maybe I'll check on a dummy):

Purely for example, I used the following specifications (PS = Plague Strike, HS = Heart Strike, OB = Obliterate):

o 2000 attack power (14 AP = 1 dps)
o 25% crit chance
o Hit capped
o Damage per hit = (weapon DPS + AP DPS) * weapon speed
o A Blood Spec rotation of PS - IT - HS - HS - OB - DC / PS - IT - HS - HS - HS - HS (so that's 9 strikes in 20 seconds)
o We're comparing Ingvar's Monolithic Cleaver and Axe of Frozen Death

So here's what I do: First I figure out how much more damage the slower weapon deals per hit, which is modified by attack power. Then I figure out how much of that increased damage per hit applies to each strike, as PS hits for only 30% of weapon damage, HS for 60%, and OB for 100%. I add that up in the rotation (2 PSs, 6 HSs, 1 OB - "TIDpR"), and divide by 20 seconds for the total rotation to get DPS gain ("+DPS"). I add 25% for damage from crits, subtract the DPS difference from white damage between the 2 weapons (11.1 in this case), and voila "final DPS gain".

* TIDpR = Total Increased Damage per Rotation

As you can see, the Axe of Frozen Death only provides about an 11 DPS gain. And that's assuming that you're hit capped. If not, then Ingvar's Monolithic Cleaver is a better choice. A straight swap would cause over a 2% loss in hit chance, which would conservatively drop your total DPS by 2% which would probably completely negate the DPS gain. Also note that some of the Axe of Frozen Death's itemization points are spent on stamina, which means its total AEP (Attack Equivalency Points) from stats is lower if we are to believe the guys at elitist jerks. Maybe they're wrong, and crit is worth more than 1.1 EP. Nevertheless, what this analysis does demonstrate, I think, is that both weapons are pretty much the same for Blood spec. So no need to grind UK.

Yeah its not like it really matters. yes some of the swords around the same lvl may have better stats but none that are better for a DK. realistically unless your a hardcore dual wielder, big huge heave damage dealing 2 handed axes are in your future.

This is the best quest chain for those who start Northrend as soon as they turn 68. its 100% soloable and by the time your done you will be 69 and ready for pvp. with this axe I get a 23% crit chance so ownage is inevitable (FYI i didn't post that last one. and i don't know who did.)

as blood speced dk its insanely easy to get hit/expertise capped pre dragonblight so this is the best weapon till the other late 70 2handers come

As of WotLK, this is the BEST weapon for level 69 twink warriors/paladins, obviously. It has plenty of stamina, hit rating and strength, which is what I personally try to stack on my ret pally. On top of all that, it has a nice slow speed, allowing for amazing damage on Crusader Strike and Divine Storm. I cannot wait to reach level 68 and get my hands on this baby!

I doubt that this would work, but has anyone tried to get this axe on a fury warrior, then faction changed, and took the ally/horde quest to get it again? Two of these on a titans grip fury warrior would be brutal. It doesnt say that its unique or unique-equipped, so if anyone has tried, I would very much like to know. Thx :)

I can confirm that if you have done the quest on your current faction and then faction change that it is possible to get two of these and DW them as a Fury warrior. I went from Alliance to Horde after having done the alliance quest for this axe and was able to obtain another one from the horde quest. Armory me for proof.

A good upgrade to this axe is this one: obtained from this quest chain: obtained in the Dalaran sewers. Pick it up before heading to Zul'Drak, where the chain picks up. Good luck!

they put this in because of the work involved with getting it (IMO), ally have a hard chain and horde have multiple soloable chains so, it separates the men from the boys, (axe=men, all other weps=boys).. or women and girls as it were

Very very nice axe :D i picked this for my 70 Hunter last night ...Hunter Weap FTW! lol... the gun was damn nice too but theres another Gun coming up soon that is pretty much as good, so i went the Axe! Always nice to get a really good blue weapon as a quest reward just by completing quest chains.. a nice reward :) Nice ending to the quest as well (for Horde) when u are giving a guard of honor from the guards and then taken out to the Taunka'le Village aboard a very fast Frostwolf :D

I must say thanks Polarbee. You're post helped tremendously. I managed to somehow get the Axe with my DK through my first run in NR but not until like 71-ish. I saw many people running around with it but could never actually figure out how to receive that quest for it. I am now taking my Druid through the quests for a staff and your post has really helped with what quests I need to do first and such. It's saved me a lot of time and running around. Thanks!

HORDE

There are three quest chains and one quest you have to complete before you get the quest Hellscream's Champion which rewards the axe

* Starting with The defense of Warsong Hold, get it from from High Overlord Saurfang in Warsong Hold, and ending with
step:6 Tank ain't Gonna Fix Itself

* Starting with Untold Thruths, get it from the Shadowstalker Barthus 43,55 and hen go to the quy laying on the ground who is surrounded by a green cloud, outside
Warsong Hold in the Quarry area- coordinates 40,52, and ending with step 7: Foolish Endeavors

* Starting with The Wondrous Bloodspore, get it from Bloodmage Laurith at the Bloodspore Plains in the Borean Tundra
-coordinates 53,53, and ending with step:6 Trophies of Gammoth

* Do the 3 quests rom Mobu 32,54 - Superstrong Metal Plates!, Mobu's Pneumatic Tank Transjigamarig and Tanks alot...

* Then do the quest The plains of Nassam offered by the guy standing next to Mobu - Gorge the Corpsegrinder. Turn this quest in to Hellscream and he should now offer you the quest Hellscream's Champion.

ALLIANCE

Alliance have to do a four step quest chain starting with Finding the Phylactery in Thassarian and ending with
quest Last Rites which will give the same rewards as Horde.
