Royal Tanzanite would seem to be the best choice for this shield. With +73 healing, as well as 3mana/5sec, this would be excellent for any shaman or paladin. Add a +12 Intellect enchant on this and you bring the total up to 40 Intellect (An even 600 mana - 660 mana for a Holy Paladin). Interested to see what it looks like.

I wouldn't got so far and call it a Shaman-only shield, but since Supremus drops the Felstone Bulwark, which is the better choice for a Pala, the Bastion of Light should be going to a Shaman first. And if you can beat Anetheron, you can beat Supremus as well.

personally, as a shaman, i find Enamelled Disk of Mojo(https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=33332) to be a better option, if not superior to the bastion of light.

I just got this last night and tossed a 22 healing gem in it. I figure i'll use it for most fights unless i really need more mp5, then i'll go back to the kara shield...but with +40 healing over it, plus added hp/int/armor and the fact that you still get benefit from the socket bonus, it seems to me that +22healing is the gem of choice. I'm a holy pally and have +120mp5 or so unbuffed so i figure i can afford to lose 7mp5 for the added stats.

Going from kara shield to this one:

+1058 armor
+4 stam
+7 int
+42 healing (with an epic +heal gem)
-7 mp5

At this point most healers should have different sets for different fights (+heal, +regen, +haste, +crit)

One interesting thought though is if you have a haste set you can put a +10spell haste gem in this. It's not much, but considering no shield in the game has +spell haste it's better than nothing.

Overall, this isn't actually a great shield. Sure, it has a lot of pure +heal, but in late game raiding situations, most people should have a good chunk of +heals from their other gear.

Lots of people label it is a "shaman shield", but from experience most shamans I've known have chosen to keep their https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=33332 due to Mp5, or pass on it until the https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=32255 comes up if they're hung up on crit. Shamans that have taken this shield are either using a crappy offhand and want a shield, or have the Karazhan shield, which people tend to be sick of after progressing through t5 content.

The only reason I would take this shield (as a paladin) would be if I was low on +heals from stacking spell crit or Mp5, or if my guild could absolutely not in their life dodge volcanoes, in which case we would have trouble taking down Supremus.

My advice (which isn't necessarily the right advice) is to not waste DKP on this unless there is no other option for you. ZA resets every 3 days, and dragonhawk isn't really that hard to beat, so I'd advise getting https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=33332.

I got this shield on my Holy Paladin this weekend. I personally socketed it with a 22+ heal gem, and obviously enchanted it with +12 int. The raw +heal you can get out of this shield is pretty legit if your spell crit is already at a decent level. Yes, I would rather have gotten the Felstone Bulwark, but beggars can't be choosers.

No paladin, by any means, should pass on this shield if they're still using triptych or the mag shield, there isn't a comparison (In terms of raw +heal). I can understand holding off for Felstone if you have the ZA shield.

But don't think for a second that this shield isn't good for a paladin, because it actually is very nice.

i would go for Bastion than Mojo Disk Anytime

in terms of design and stats

though Mojo looks good only if you got a full set of the Mojo stuffs

otherwise, along with T6, this is the best choice

Paladins. Before you totally dismiss the Bastion of light, lets just think it over once more.

Bastion of light has +62 healing, with a socket its +22 healing (not 82, but 84), further more the 28 intellect gives a bonus of 9,8 healing (10), compared to the Bulwark with 7,35 (7), equalling a +3 extra healing diffrence, also adding a bit increased mana and crit chance to reduce the diffrence between them. so basicly it is +23 healing, 1mp5, more mana / 0,3% (around) crit chance.

So, +23 healing, 7 intellect, 1mp5 vs. 1,12% crit chance (1,22% - 7 intellect that gives 0,1% crit asuming you have kings, and we are talking raids). - Further more, alot paladins are jewelcrafters because of the spellcrit / +healing gems, and the ONLY red socket you will see untill t6 parts in sunwell are yellow or blue, this will be the only oppertunity to use that +26 healing gem with a socket bonus.

If you look at it statswise, if u had sockets, the gems required to both stats would basicly be the same. 2xyellow gems vs. 1xred and a green would roughly equal the same, however in my own opinion, also as a JC Bastion of light with red socket >> Bulwark because of the fact of more intellect, more heal and the talents / raidbuffs you get that works well with a paladin.

EDIT: I know it is somewhat kinda late post ;-> With 3.0 comming out soon, reducing +heal from intellect, and WotLK around the corner, noone gives a rats ass about this, just wanted to say my 2cents how this shield used to be vs. Bastion if anyone googles it when all are running around in lvl 80, like I sometimes do with naxxramas items =)

Still using this at 80 as holy, for offspec I find it to be comparable to the crafted 80 epic. Mabey even better than the crafted one.
Add +25 In and 19 spell gem and you have.
33+19 sp = 52 sp
28+ 25 int = 53 int
And the awesome 1+mp5 hehe go blizzard :D

Still easly replaceable with ugly badge shield but still, very usable and not to be looked over for a offspec item set.

This shield is quickly replaced in Wrath of the Lich King. This is one of the widely used shield in TBC, because Anetheron is not very hard to beat (compared to other bosses that dropped the healing shield). In level 80, this shield is already useless, seriously. Tor's Crest is still better than this one.

Very nice healing shield, with a teardrop living ruby the +healing would be bumped up to 80 and grant the 1 mp5 bonus as well. Fair amounts of int and stam as well, with 28 stam and 6k armor, it is definitely viable for PvP as well.

Drops of Anetheron, the second boss in Hyjal Summit (caverns of time).

Why does everyone assume "omfgpallyitem"? My Shaman got this last night and it's amazingly good with a Royal Nightseye gem in it for both paladins and shamans.

This item is most beneficial for a Shammy than a Pally at the T6 level instances. Of course both classes can use them well.

If I were a Pally I go for the other shield that has Spell Crit, which helps land crit heals, Shammys need the mana pool and mp5 for their healing.

Seen this drop a couple of times now, and i'm a bit torn over whether to go for this or the Felstone Bulwark that drops off Supremus in BT for my pally.

I know the common wisdom for pallies is to stack the spell crit. At this point I'm reasonably happy with my crit (more doesn't do any harm though ;)), but could do with stacking more +heal for future encounters (on Gurtogg atm).

I guess I'll probably go for whichever comes up first in the end. :)

<edit> Well, the Bastion dropped tonight for me. Popped a +22 heal gem in there and I'm pretty happy with it I have to say. :)
