The first time I ran Auchenai Crypts in Auchindoun (the instance had 2 bosses), they both dropped Spirit Shard. It can be looted by everyone in the party and it's 100% drop on each kill.

They are lootable by everyone in the party and they do have 100% drop rate. The only catch is that your faction must have control of the PVP tower objectives. This will provide you with a buff increases experience gained by 5% and allows you to collect these shards. I believe it may increase your damage output but I'm not 100% sure on that. It is applied when you enter the zone.

Every boss in the Auchindoun instances drop 2 spirit shards for each person when you have Blessing of Auchindoun. The alliance guy to had these into for items such as blue helms and epic rings is just outside the tower that at the western side of Allerian Hold in Terrokar Forest.

Man I'm so mad, these things SUCK!! I had 30, nothing here is worth anything to me, I'm 66 holy priest. the gems are lame, and the helms just don't compare to the one the eye boss in crypts drops. I bought a helm hoping maybe I could disenchant it, nope, can't sell it either. waste of time, I suggest not even looting them.

These can easily be farmed from the first boss of Mana Tombs. Each run takes about 10 minutes.

Actually probably the fastest way to farm them is to do runs of the first boss of Setthek Halls.

The runs take 15 mins but Setthek and Shad Labs bosses give 2 Spirit Shards instead of 1, so it's a quick way of grinding them if you have a group that's up for it.

We farmed the first boss in sethekk today, it took ~10 min each run with me(DPS warrior) 3 rogues and a shaman all lvl 70. Too bad that you only can reset the instance 5 times/hour

patch 2.3 - this has been fixed, just happened to our group, we barely killed Exarch, and then his avatar killed us, we ran back, killed avatar, then looted boss for a blue and the shards

So all these Shards is nothing more then currency for PvP gear, as everything has Resilence on it and all.
Basicly a PvE-char doesn't have much use for it as better items can be found throughout quests and the like?

The WoTLK version of these are Stone Keeper's Shards, which drop from Heroic instances and are awarded for Wintergrasp Quests.

Somehow, I had 4 of these before I set foot in Auchinduon. I think I got them from running CoilFang Reservoir.. so possibly they drop from bosses in other dungeons as long as the zone pvp is controlled by your faction?

These items were/are intended to be PVP items. These rings are the epic pvp rings; if you note, there aren't other epic pvp rings, there are blue ones. Hence why it's a world pvp objective that leads to you being able to get the shards, and then on to turning them in for PVP oriented items. All of the items are PVP items. This is an incentive and perk for pvp'ers to do some pve stuff. For goodness sake, there is nearly nothing but pve items in dungeons, a single vendor offering pvp items from pve gaming is not gonna break the game!

You get more honour from healing than killing, so reguarding holy priests being pvpers, one of the better choices :P

I myself had a holy priest twink, went 10-70 holy. It's a lot more fun healing in BGs than it is killing things. I do think they need more holy priest PvP items, not only for priests, but druids/shaman/paladin

When you have the buff of Archentoun, which gives you certain abilities - not the least of which is +5% experience for the zone - you pick these up off each of the three bosses in Mana Tombs, at least. I'm assuming they have something to do with Consortium rep. I hit friendly tonight, whatever that means!

It's pretty sad that you can't buy other things with the spirit shards you get because there is nothing at that vendor for Alliance in Allerian Stronghold that I could use as an upgrade. They should put a 50 shard epic ring in there for healers with INT not stamina, and way more healing. My blues are better than those they offer. :( pfft those rings they had was surely a shadow priest item.

its pretty easy what they do, i turn mine in for the mana pots they have, 2 shards for a mana put which is exalcty like the super mana pot (1800 mana to 3000) just a different name, its 50 shards for a spell damage ring with 24 stam and resiliance, 50 shards for also another epic but i dont know whats the stats, also 18 shards just for some blue helms i think lvl 64 or 66 they give spell damage and alright stats with a meta gem socket. also you get 2 shards each boss in shadow labs and 1 shard off each boss in the other instances but 2 shards also off each boss in sethekk halls but i think you can only get them when you have the towers, i dont go without them just in case

These are turned in for various items in the nearby quest hubs in the north east of Auchenai.

50 tokens buys an epic ring
18 tokens for a blue headpiece
8 tokens for a meta gem (12 spell damage/run speed increase, 30(?)AP/run speed increase)

The Gem requirement requires the gems to be on the same piece of equipment!

So make sure of this before you put the Gem in.

If you kill some one while you have the buff in PvP, is it possible that you can get a spirit shard for that (kind of like a Thrallmar Mark or Honor Hold Mark)? It seems kind of weird for blizzard to NOT make these as a reward considering the buff is aquired through PvP.... =/.

The word "duh" comes to mind...... You get the buff from PvP! How many Holy Priests are big PvPers? Now, there is gear a kind of PvP gear for priests that heal you can get from the Arena or Hall of Legends or Champion's Hall (I think that's what it's called on the Alliance), but that crap gives a lot of stamina anyway o.O. If they did make healer gear for this, it would be high on stamina which you are obviously not after. "Sad" isn't the word I would have used, dude..... anyway I'm NOT calling you an idiot or anything so try not to get offended and rape me =].

just got outa the crypts. got one per boss (2 bosses in the instance). everyone gets to loot thier own, similar to quest drops. can't wait to get some more, the items look prety good. No reputatioin is needed as they belong to no reputation group (just the faction, ie horde or alliance)

From what ive seen it seems that in terokkar the outdoor pvp activity isnt such as in Hellfire, it just gives respective faction side control of the towers for 6 hours when the pvp activity is completed by either faction.
so basicly have 6 hours from whenever your faction capture all the towers to get the shards you need then have to wait until the towers switch to your faction again.

Resilience gear is somewhat hard to come by and is extremely valuable in pvp. Some of this stuff has resilience on it so its not a bad investment for a pvper to reduce crits and crit damage. I wouldnt run Auchindoun instances with the fixed goal of obtaining shards but you'll be getting them anyway running shadow labs for your dungeon 3 set, so why not spring for something.

At the very least you can pick up a gem or 2 for that meta slot.

Considering 74 shards gets you everything you'd need from the list (tho you might want a spare 8 for another meta gem at some point) it should be pretty easy to get them farmed over a few days of guild runs.

The ring is about the 4th best melee damage ring in game so well worth the effort.

I can see why they made the rewards more PvP orientated - it's linked to a PvP event.
Not every quest/event is going to have rewards to suit all classes - if they're rubbish, just don't loot or destroy them. Once you get 76 shards you can probably get all you want anyway and then they'd be useless again.
If the rewards in the instances are better for you - good for u! Means you don't have to collect the things and probably would get ur drop by the time u've collected the stuff anyway. Seen most drops in the dungeons and I've had 62 shards so far. Got the drops I want from the 4 dungeons as a feral druid.
Must suck if you're horde on my server - there's only usually 1-2 times a day the horde get the towers from what I've seen.
As for the rest of dungeon loot that will drop regardless of tower possession thus easier to farm.

So Spirit Shards are pretty much useless for healing specced classes? I can't seem to find a use for them as a Holy Paladin. I farm using consecration so I don't need Ret gear.
