Here's how the trinket works:

-Activate trinket

Yes, you can alternate between ZHC, ToEP, and this ToA -- but too bad you can't fire them off together... that would be some serious brain-ripping-face-melting fun in PvP.

The 60 sec cooldown is incredible since that means if you are on the ball you can be playing with this thing active damn near 1/3 of the time.

I reccomend using this with a threat meter since the damage can climb up very fast.

I've been using this on my pally, I grinded for it before BC. Flash of light stacks it fast, throwing in a holy shock/exorcism/consecration for some damage. The only thing I don't like about it is clicking it every minute of battle, but oh well. It's a neat trinket.

Almost double the healing, you dont go around spamming as much heals in a controlled environment anyway and if you do it's good healing, what's not to like?

To the above pally: make a macro with flash of light and this trinket cast, voila, every use you can get out of it.

Assuming back to back spell casts of Frostbolt (2.5 seconds), trinket works as follows:

1 frostbolt - 0 damage
2 frostbolt - 40 damage
3 frostbolt - 80 damage
4 frostbolt - 120 damage
5 frostbolt - 160 damage
6 frostbolt - 200 damage

frostbolts 2-6 take 12.5 seconds to cast, with an average +spell damage of 120

12.5 seconds fits in 60 seconds (CD) 4 times

120 / 4 = 30 spell damage

Making it 1 spell damage better than Briarwood Reed or Power of the High Chief.

Many of the calculations assume that you're going to be dpsing or healing while the trinket is on cooldown.

Likely run-on sentence incoming:
If you're like me, you've picked this up, and only intend on dpsing while it is active (single target farming certain bosses where this cooldown will always be up by the time I dodge mobs to get to the next boss) it still is pretty sweet.

Anyone else notice that this is getting hardcore nerfed in wotlk? No increase in spellpower despite the complete dissappearance of 35 healing per stack.

Nobody has even mentioned my class of choice. Affliction Warlocks being LoadeD with instant cast goodies that benefit more from higher spell power than anything (+crit + hit etc) would love this. With a rotation available at 61 I'll let the mathmeticians out there add this up....

p.s. Haunt is one of the coolest looking spells in the game imo. when it hits the target they appear to be engulfed with a large purple skull, if you haven't seen yet you'll like it when ya do :)

Its a very nice +dmg trinket. But you have to cast 5 Spells in 20sec and hope that it wil stack all the 5 times to get the full boost of +200 damage.

The ZHC is way better cause you have the top damage every time right by your first spellcast.

Judging from the name of the trinket and the text, I got the impression you for instance cast scorch 5 times, the second one will get + up to 40, the third, + up to 80, fourth + up to 120, fifth + up to 160, and whatever you decide on for your final spell cast, + up to 200 damage, effectively allowing you to add quite a bunch. Of course I may be way off, anyone used it on the testservers?

15 / 2.5 * 175 = +1050 dmg
1050 dmg / 90s = 11.66667 dps

ZHC (1.11):
200 + 175 + 150 + 125 + 100 + 75 + 50 + 25 = +900 dmg
900 dmg / 120s = 7.5 dps

ToA:
40 + 80 + 120 + 160 + 200 + 200 = +800 dmg
800 dmg / 60s = 13.33333 dps
Edit: Wrong calc (see below), this is correct:
0 + 40 + 80 + 120 + 160 + 200 = +600 dmg
600 dmg / 60s = 10 dps

ToEP > ToA > ZHC PVE-Long-Term-DPS-Wise.

Got mine yesterday already and this is exactly how it works, first spell after activation starts the stacking. Cooldown 1 minute as stated, quite a catch.

In the last patch (1.11), they said that paladin seals would cost charges of the ZHC, so I am guessing it would be the same for this.

Remember that + damage effects take account of spell speed, debuffs and are in turn effected by any bonus damage talents. This item is much better for fire mages than frost mages.

So if you cast 5 frost bolts with this trinket you would see actual damage incrase by 36, 72, 108, etc. This is becuse frost bolt has a built in 0.82 factor, now you can have max +9% to frost damage (with frost and arcane but these days most wont have that build) talents boosting the 0.82 to about 0.9. That is the factor by which you multiply any + damage to get the real bonus damage.

With fireball you would see actual damage incrase by 44, 88, 132, etc. because fireball has a cast time of 3.5 (factor of 1.0) and you get 10% from tallents.

ZHC has been nerfed badly and is out of the running.

ToEP can be better than this if you have some insta cast stuff such as PoM or full set NW. With 5 fireballs (which you can just fit into 15 seconds (theoreticaly but in practice you'd be doing 4 + scorch + fireblast for slightly less bonus) you would add 875 damage with ToEP. That is 9.7 DPS vs 10 DPS on this (well its probably going to be 25% higher on both due to talents but that cancels out). Not a lot in it even with 4 fireballs and a scorch it is at 8.6

BUT ToEP does add 15 seconds of extreemly high burst damage and sometimes that is more valuable. I often find I'm holding back burst damage for the critical final moments of a fight when the boss is enraged or some such, chances are that critical phase won't last a minute so the ToEP's higher cooldown doesn't come into play. On AE the ToEP has the trump.

Conclusion:
This is better but not worth the effort to replace my ToEP (its like 50 hours of farming...). It is better than the ZHC but I'd rather replace it with something that doesn't cooldown like the briarwood reed (which is now better than ZHC imo) or Nalth's tear (drop damnit, drop!).

Anyone with it that can tell us how it works with Arc Explosion?

I know that insta-cast spells don't get full credit for +dmg gear...didn't know how this applies.

Actually I'm wondering how it effects any AoE...like cone of cold...if I do CoC on my last spell, do all targets get the extra damage?

This item was completely worth grinding for on my priest.

I haven't tested it in every situation as of yet, but came up with a neat technique for farming elites. I pop the trinket, cast PW:S on myself (starts the +dmg/heal stacking), cast four damage spells, then use the last and largest charge to place a Renew on myself as I wand them to death. The final charge has a generous +375 healing on it, so the self renew has big enough ticks to cancel out damage caused by an elite!

I mix and match between damage and healing spells during the 20 seconds of Ascendance for very unique results. I'm having a great time changing up the usual played-out patterns to take advantage of this trinket. With the 60 second cooldown, it's up 1/3 of the time.

Note: I have not tested this, but the idea just came to me.

1. Activate Ascendance
2. PW:S yourself (ascendance stacking begins)
3. Mind Blast (+40 damage, 1/5 shadow weaving)
4. Shadow Word: Pain (+80 damage, 2/5 shadow weaving)
5. Mind Flay (+120 damage, 3/5 shadow weaving)
6. Mind Flay (+160 damage, 4/5 shadow weaving)
6 1/2. Inner Focus (optional)
7. Mind Blast (+200 damage, 5/5 shadow weaving) *big crit*

Also, I've now played with it in raids. My Heal Rank 2 is very efficient when stacked with +healing so I use that heal for the first few charges and land a fat renew on my tank or a nice Shadow Word: Pain on the boss with the last one.

I suspect that this will be necessary for killing Loatheb in Naxxramas.

During the Loatheb fight, you can only heal once every minute, so you need to make that one heal count. Every minute, a priest or druid can pop this trinket, cast 4 low rank damage spells, and then cast a very big heal.

I like this a ton on my scorch spec'd mage.
Pop this, scorch 5 times, hit Ascendance 5 and either fireball/pyroblast. Works well in PvP vs rogues, hit it and spam AE trying to find him, if you luck out you hit him around ascendance 4 and get a couple damn good hits on them.

PvE this thing is a beast.

Since +dmg scales with cast time, think of it as being +dps over the duration. Since this trinket expires on 20 seconds, or on 6 casts, you get the most damage out of it by timing your 6 casts to end just before the 20 secs are up, because you get the DPS boost for longer.

Spamming scorches is a bad idea. Spamming 3-second spells is the way to go.

Also, use quicker spells at the start and slower spells at the end, not the other way round, so it gives a higher dps boost for most of its duration.

For example,

Immolate -> Shadow Bolt -> Shadow Bolt -> Soul Fire -> CoA -> Corruption

Anyone badmouthing this is a complete idiot. I levelled my second mage up in 10 days and had one of these 3 scholo runs after I hit 60, even though I'm still wearing 5 green bits of gear. Here's how:
From level 50 onwards, save all money and buy very little gear from the AH. Regularly check for Savage Fronds and bone frags, try to buy 250 for 50-70g at a time. If you do this over a while, you won't have to pay high prices as you can buy when prices are low.
At level 50 get an AD commission. Get a high level player to walk you through all 4 cauldron quests. Turn in no scourge stones until you are honored.
Go to Felstone Field (Sorrow Hill for Alliance). Kill the undead there until you are level 55, collecting all Osseuous Agitators and Somatic Intensifiers and putting them in the bank. Do not sell the runecloth you get, put this in the bank. You will be honored and cease gaining AD rep by this point. As soon as you hit honored, turn in all the cauldron stuff you have, it's best to clear your inventory apart from Intensifiers, runecloth and then buy loads of Quickener. Turn all of this in, as it gives free XP and rep.
Level 55, go to the next field along (I forget the name - Dalsons Tears?) and kill undead there until level 57. Collect all the stuff they drop. Bank it and do not use it.
Level 57, go to the last cauldron field (Gahrrons Withering) and grind undead, until you hit level 59. Turn in all remaining Ectoplasmic Resonators for the XP and rep.
Level 59 is a $%^&*, so go to Silithus and do all the quests, this takes only a few hours to hit 60.
For me it took 3 scholo runs to get to a position where I could turn in 1350 bone fragments and 1350 savage fronds. Make sure to hand in one stack of crypt fiend parts, one of dark iron scraps and one of elemental bits as these award 200 rep the first turn in and 10 rep every subsequent time.
Three scholomance runs later netted me some nice blue gear (all of which I wanted as I'd wasted no money on blues from level 50 on) and made me revered and thus I have this trinket. It's great both for pve and pvp.

For pvp, make yourself a shatter build and change your nova so it triggers this, casts nova to burn the first dead charge then open fire.

I wrote a nice macro for a fire mage. What this does is :

1) Check if combustion is on cooldown, if it's not on cooldown it activates it.

2) Check if Talisman of Ascendance is on cooldown, if it's not on cooldown it activates it.

3) Shoot out a first Fireball rank 12.

You can always keep pressing this macro's button in order to shoot your fireballs, and it will automaticly activate your combustion and trinket if they are not on cooldown. If they are on cooldown, you will just be shooting fireballs.

- Where it says 91, combustion is the 91st spell in my spellbook. (Start counting all the spells from general spells, then arcane, then fire. Don't count any empty slots, and you'll find out what number you have to put instead of 91)

- Where it says 13, it refers to the first trinket slot. If your Talisman is in the second trinket slot, use 14.

- Where it says 115, that's where my fireball rank 12 is in my spellbook. (Start counting all the spells from general spells, then arcane, then fire. Don't count any empty slots, and you'll find out what number you have to put instead of 115)

- Important : There is only one line break in this macro, and that's before the second /script. Put any more line breaks and your macro will no longer work !

- This macro can easily be adjusted to use Arcane Power with the Talisman and Frostbolt or whatever... The sky is the limit (as long as you use 255 or less characters :p)

Not sure if this helps, but I got sick of counting the spell numbers up in my spellbook.

Here is a simple macro to call a spell by name:

Like the other macros listed here it checks the top trinket position, if you prefer the bottom one then use 14 in the GetInventoryItemCooldown bit instead - also you need to replace Moonfire(Rank 10) with Frostbolt(Rank X) or whatever you wish to cast ;)

I also removed the StopSpellCasting command seen in other macros as I normally spam my macro key and I've noticed that sometimes you interrupt your current intended cast..

I dont know if this is just me, the description of this item says:

But, when i cast any healing spell it DOES NOT stack, but when i cast a Judgement Damage spell or Consecration is does stack, so what use is it to me if i cant even get its full potential? i want to know if this has happened to anyone else or if anyone knows the solution.

I know this trinket is a bit outdated, but i was testing it with stacked Lifeblooms, and as long as its timed right, none of my other trinket combos come close to what this bonus does:

Untrinketed 3 stacks:
702 healing/sec

Lower City Prayerbook + Essence of the Martyr:
789 healing/sec

EotM + ToA
813 healing/sec

ToA alone (if EotM is on CD):
681

In essence, this trinket is superb for fights where there is little or no chance of failing at refreshing Lifebloom stacks (eg. Magtheridon, and other tank and spanks). But if there is even moderate chance at not being able to refresh them, it's probably better to go with something else.

Now I just have to figure if +375 healing every 1m is better than a steady +70 healing (and mana cost reduction from LCP), especially if I lose the rolling lifebloom, which tends to happen often on heavy mobility fights.

Ill have to test it out in a raid environment soon, as its been chilling in my bank forever and i wandered across it while cleaning my bags.

Anyways, I had been debating whether this was any good or not, and after reading this I decided to go ahead and snag it (even tho we are already popping ToEPs - on average they should only come out once every month and a half).

I went ahead and spent the 90 insignia, since I'm 14k rep from exalted and the thought of running scholo another 40 times just nauseates me.

*LOVE* it.

I'm hitting 1100+ frostbolts without temporary buffs (I have Rank XI and run with +380 frost dmg); my normal frostbolts are in the 900-950 range. This thing ROCKS, any way you look at it.

When I *do* get my ToEP, it will be an easy decision to drop the Burst of Knowledge for it, and I really don't care that I gave up 3 free 18-slot bags (which equals 6 inventory boxes) to get this thing a couple months early by not waiting for my rep grinding. And, now it means I don't need to bust my ass for a ZHC either.

Anything I can get with cash instead of DKP (even tho we use a different system, its the same basic idea) is a bonus in my mind.

Got mine finished. Blackhand server. Affliction locks are gonna be seriously dissapointed. Syhpon life and drain life will not add charges to the buff. I respecced destruction just so I could use this trinket I farmed so much for. Hope its a bug *shrug*

OK, I got this trinket on my druid and I've been testing it out a bit (I also have ZHC). Currently, my +healing bonus is +582, mix of tier 1 and tier 2 with ZG enchants, so I tend to spam rank 3 Healing Touch, 2 second cast, for 99 mana during boss fights, and hope my Blue Dragon card procs for essentially free healing. I set up this trinket to activate itself on cast so I would be able to maximize the time I can spam heals with it on. Between the 5 "Ascendance" buffs, my heals go from ~550 to ~800, critting for ~1100 on the 5th Ascendance buff. I also tried spamming up to the 5th buff, and then casting a Rejuv on myself: it ticked for about 482. I think ZHC is higher if I use it and hit myself with a Rejuv right away. (The buffs of this trinket go on you, not your target, meaning you can spread the bonus around to different people).

Overall, the Cooldown is the best part about this trinket, if you hit all 5 buffs and use the full bonus, it's really only 40 seconds until you can take advantage of it again. However, there are, IMO, only a few specific times you're going to be able to take advantage of the effect fully. Between the amount of time you have to get the 5th buff (20 seconds), and it's Cooldown (40 more seconds), any type of fear effect, stun, AoE cast or Delay, or emergency decursing can render the higher levels of this trinket/buff worthless (eg, Onyxia fears, or decursing in MC).

I've liked it so far, and dont regret farming rep for it. Just run Scholo a bunch.

I would say based on how this thing works it's a waste of time. When you could be raiding and getting a better item. That fata$$ dwarf can go to hell. I have the ZHC and TOEP and would laugh at someone if they actually spent the time go get this thing. I understand not everyone has the resources to raid, or access to end game material. However, I blame such bull$*** like this on Blizzard. Don't punish those who can't raid. Reward them with challenging quests, and other things of that nature.

I had a ToA on my original priest and loved it; I since rerolled a draenei priest and wanted it back. Things have really changed in TBC. The insignia mats used to be like 1g+ each but on my server (Skywall) prices have dropped like a stone on skeletal fragments, crypt fiend parts, core of elements, dark iron scraps, etc. down to about 5s a unit and even less, which is quite affordable.

Therefore I just ground myself to Revered (killed mobs from Neutral through Friendly, ran Scholo and Strat once, full clear, and then did AD quests and handed in scourgestones and AD tokens and insignia mats all the way to Revered) and stopped there and just bought up almost everything I needed with the exception of about 750 skeletal fragments which I recovered from the earlier Neutral to Honored grind. I also ground out about 200 crypt fiend parts in the Terrorweb tunnel. No cauldron runs at all, except to complete the quest for the AD rep, which was an incredible relief. No Gaharron's Withering agony on this priest!

I started the grind at 50 and ended it halfway through 57, spent perhaps 150g tops on buying up mats, and now I'm in possession of a ToA. Should come in handy when I'm 58 and in the Outlands!

edit: I was able to equip it right on the spot at 57, pretty insane... it's quite the trinket to have for the 50-60 battlegrounds.

No doubt this thing is great - especially if your guild does not / is not up to Hakkar or MC, but even if it is it's still fairly good, as previously noted it's cool down is almost non existant.

One thing to note for frost mages is if you are spec'd for more dps (ie have less than 5 in improved frost bolt to shorten it's casting time), try to have your instant casts lined up before you activate this. Get a couple of instant casts off (like fire blast and mabye cone of cold if you are close enough) so that you can throw 3 'ascended' frost bolts and still get em' all in under the 20 second ascention buff, otherwise you might miss out on the +200 spell damage cast at teh end - 2.5 K cirts with this are way cool for Tier 1 frost mages ;).

Just got it tonight and i love it, it took me ages to get to exalted but it was well worth it for this. Balance druid with 1.5 sec wrath casts gets my crit to 1400 and my starfire crit to 2900 on the 5th cast. I love it. Quick question though, i noticed after you reach exalted you still have an EXP bar, whats that for?

I was 7.000/21.000 exalted when I decided to get it and i farmed the whole rep I was missing in just... 5 days. The funny thing was the guy who's reported me to a GM because he thought I was a bot at the Gharron's Cauldron :D
By the way i never got ToEP or ZHC (my guild doesn't raid anymore MC/ZG) so this trinket seems very good at least to me :)

Questions is can a Pali make full use of this item with his Damage "spells"?
Please help....I have Dawn-45 crusade-45 Ready to buy one of the epics....But I'll wait for a reply...thanks

I got it. Farmed for a long time and for many hours... it was well worth it.

My spell damage reaches almost +600 (after oiling up) Im getting 2000+ crits with frostbolt on the 5th shot.

With its fast cooldown it feels like I'm almost always using it.

And when people see the big red eye buff pop out of you... they know something is about to hurt.

Much fun indeed, especially for someone that doesn't get to raid much.

actually, if you ran the numbers you would see this is better than toep, zhc and brairwood reed. the only way it's not as effective as toep and zhc is in pvp when you want your burst damage sooner than later. but ToA's 1 min cool puts above those other 3.

Can anyone tell me what the 'stacking up to 5 times' bit means? Does it mean that each spell cast will be as if it had +40 spell damage? With spell damage increasing by 40 each time (rather than with the ZHC which decreases)? Or is it something else?

Best way to get is farming dark iron scraps which is quite easy , u can get done with Insignia of the Dawn in some days and the go to Scholo or Wpl/Epl to farm Bone Fragments , Crypt Fiend parts. I almost finished with insignias but exalted is hard :-/

I just got this for my Lock and I can confirm that DoTs do indeed cause ascendance to stack. Not sure if the bonus dmg affects them, but at very least, you could use the Talisman, then cast your DoT's to get up to max dmg quicker, then cast your powerful spells last for big payoff. Very nice trinket, especially with only a 1 min cd.

+40, +80, +120, +160, +200 (Average over 5 spells - +120 spell damage. A total of 600 spellpower added over the activation) 600 spellpower/minute

ZHC is a bit more tricky. This is going to be 6-8 spells. 204+187+170+153+146+129+112+95 = 989-1196 spellpower over the activation. 495-598 spellpower/minute

ToEP adds 175 spellpower for 15 seconds. This is usually going to be 5-6 spells as well, so roughly 875-1050 spellpower over the activation. 583-700 spellpower/minute

One big thing to note is that you want to pair your active trinkets with your DPS cooldowns/procs, meaning that ToEP and ZHC are far, far superior options for a caster. Even if it looks like Talisman of Ascendance is fairly good thanks to it's lower cooldown.

The only use for Talisman of Ascendance is as a swap-in for trash when your other active trinket is on cooldown. But you'd rather have the other spellpower trinkets and swap them around, if possible.

Ok, so since there are quite a few numbers off in the calculations made in comments, I tried to update
them for a Firemage (assuming you will only cast 3sec Fireballs during the trinket use). Here are the
numbers I came up with for TOEP, ZHC and TOA:

TOEP
15sec uptime / 3sec cast = 5 Fireball casts * 175dmg = 875 bonus dmg per trinket use
875 dmg / 90sec cd = 9,72 bonus dps
ZHC
204+187+170+153+136+119 (6 Fireball casts = 18sec) = 969 bonus dmg per trinket use
969 dmg / 120sec cd = 8 bonus dps
TOA
40+80+120+160+200 = 600,00 bonus dmg per trinket use
600 dmg / 60sec cd = 10 bonus dps

This all assumes that you use all of these trinkets the second they come off cd
and you are always able to use the full duration of the trinket with Fireball casts.

For AOE paladins farming Strat.
The Zandalarian Hero Charm is better because that starts with 200 sp dmg and goes down, this one you have to stack up, it's still good but you have to make it work. You are able to stack it up 5 times before it ends. The consec only makes it stack once, other dmging spells: Exorcism, Judgement of Right.

Pull the pack with Wisdom.
Put up Judgement of Wisdom on the mob with the highest healthpool.
When you arrive to your spot, change to Seal of Right.
Activate your Colossus with this trinket.
Immediately put down your first Consec and instantly judge with Righteousness.
Follow up with 1 Exorcism now you have 3 stacks already.
Stay on Seal of Right and before it ends you can Judge and Consec again, ending with 5 stacks.
After you Judged your last Right. change back to Seal of Wisdom and continue as you do.
