In my opinion the Halaa basin around Halaa in Nagrand is the best spot to farm these. There are water elementals all around that have a decent drop rate.

the eels in the lake just north of shat have a decent drop rate for the motes, and they have the added bonus of being very easy to kill

A great place to farm Primal Water is Skettis, the Surgers around the lake are left alone, even after the Skyguard quest hub has been added. If you travel around the lake in a large circle you will be hard-pressed to run out of elementals to kill. In addition a larger, elite elemental hides at the bottom of the lake who often drops greens and additional motes.

wow... confirmed! the lake north east is full of eels that almost drop a mote of water each kill. i needed 8 Primal Waters for a Battlemaster enchant, and as a protection warrior you can charge in and kill 3 at a time and sometimes they drop multiple motes. took me 1 hour to get 8 Primal Water. best farming spot, bring Nagrand Cherry or some waterbreathing pots

I agree with shadow about farming motes of water in the lake above shat

not only are they easy to kill they also have several other benefits lots of vendor trash that sell pretty good, its close to shat, few ppl are usually around, and it can be done at an early level to get some $$ in your pockets

The drop was nerfed but not that badly i got 4 primals in about an hour today which is good enough for me

Just a note - one of the easiest ways to farm motes of water is high-level fishing, which I haven't seen mentioned. Patches of Pure Water at the Elemental Plateau and in lakes in Nagrand can be fished for a fair few motes a shot and it's often nice to stand there calmly fishing your motes while other people around you are clearing up the elementals and stopping you from getting hit.

I find at 375 fishing I get motes from other fishing spots as well, but obviously the Pure Water ones have the best drop rate.

patch 2.3, i just farmed 11 primals in 1 hour at skettis, running around the lake and going into it.
Hunter with pretty good gear.

Personally I like getting my water motes from the pure water that seems to spawn in large quantities north of the elemental throne in Nagrand. I have max fishing skill though, and I don't know how common that is.

Despite what you may see here, it does take ten motes to create a primal. What you see here is actually a quirk of the way Blizzard handles the spell. On Blizzard's end, a two-step process occurs:

You use the first mote, destroying it in the process.
A spell is cast, which destroys the other nine motes, and creates a primal.

This spell here--step two--is the spell that gets listed here on Wowhead.

I didn't see anyone mention the inerrant advantage to warlocks in regards to farming these off of water elementals due to (https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/spell=5697)

I've spent an hour underwater in Skettis (which I find to be the best place) farming the elementals there and watched my competitors in the area have to surface for air and lose a mob to me.

Also another exceptional skill related to Primal Water is (https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=22918); since Primal Air are arguably harder to come by, you can easily farm Motes of Water and turn them into Primal Air.

I found out the Skettis Surgers in Skettis give a lot of motes. I just farmed them for 40 mins and got 40 motes, 4 greens and tons of junk before 2 Alliances went and farmed my mobs. Also, watch out for Alluvion, he's nasty.

I can get about 6-9 primals in three hours using the Mote Extractor from engineering i find it the best way to farm these and i can make up to 540g a night

If I'm right place is called Elemental platou in Nagrand and all you need from primals, except ofc Primal Life you can get there + if you have fishing 375+lures etc, you can get 10+primals per hour just by fishing. So....start leveling fishing! :D
P.S. Bring some food and water suplies for 2 days, cos you will need a lot of time for 375 fishing xD

I dont know what some of these guys are talking about but heres what i found in the lake above shatt....the good news is the eels are very easy to see because you can see their shadow from a long way off...thats where the good news ends..unlike Dolinen where he/she states he/or she got almost a mote from each kill I received this.....after 100 kills I looted 20 motes from 13 different eels (pitiful drop rate)..I also looted 97 elem fragments (worthless)...and 13 primordial essence's (also worthless).. and unlike Rainusone the only different loot i received was 2 essence of waters...think i'll stick to herb whoring and buy my primal waters from the AH... :)

The lake in Skettis was by far the best place for farming these in my opinion. Within 3-4 trips around the perimeter I was able to gather 6 primals.

i agree with dakid on that one. went for the eels and only got 1 primal in about 30minutes and the skitts to the southeast was worse, granted there was ALOT more mobs to kill, remains the fact i only got a primal in about 25minutes as well. they must have really nerfed the drop rate.

Fishing really is the best way to get these now, especially now that you are guaranteed to catch non-trash items while fishing in pools regardless of your skill. I average 3-4 motes per pool of Pure Water in Nagrand.

Fire Elementals = Drop 1-2 motes of fire, 10x combines to 1 Primal Fire = ~25g per
Water Elementals = Drop 1-2 motes of water, 10x combines to 1 Primal Water = ~20g per

2 hours of farming yielded 978g

Nagrand - Lake South of Throne of Elements (58,26) under the water

Water Elementals = Drop 1-2 motes of water, 10x combines to 1 Primal Water = ~20g per

Netherstorm - Ruins of Enkaat (34,57) north of area 52

Mana Wraiths = Drop 1-2 motes of mana, 10x combines to 1 Primal Mana = ~15g per
Rock Elementals = drop 1-2 motes of earth, 10x combines to 1 Primal Earth = ~10g per

1 hour of farming yeilded 500g

Shadowmoon Valley - The Hand of Gul'dan (47,45)

Fire Elementals = Drop 1-2 motes of fire, 10x combines to 1 Primal Fire = ~25g per
Rock Elementals = drop 1-2 motes of earth, 10x combines to 1 Primal Earth = ~10g per

2 hours of farming yeilded 840g

Yeah, 2 hours yielding a 1000G is just flat out impossible. (unless your server AH is totally skewed).

Surprisingly, on the plateau in Nagrand, no one was on the water side (everyone was farming the air and fire). Anyway, in about 75 minutes, I cleared 30 motes of water, along with a bunch of grey stuff that got me about 10 additional gold. So, for the time spent, I yeilded about 50-60 gold. But, I can probably get that in the same time simply questing and getting the various drops and crap from doing quests.

You can get Motes of water from fishing, i have about 20 primal waters from Fishing
So fish it up

They don't drop, combine 10 mote of waters and you will get a primal water.

i dont know whats going on with the elemental water.. but elemental plateau (north of nagrand and you need to have a flying mount to get there) drop rate is really good (only for the water.. earth im getting 1 every 15 kill.. fire 25% which is not that bad.. and air.. dont even try to farm them.. too many players are on it)

I must have transmuted a good 30 primal might and still no descovered transmutes! are there any any requirements? im transmute master (which prroved to be a waste) and would love this transmute

Motes of water can be farmed VERY easily! 10 minutes killing mobs in the lake north of Shattrath and i gathered 10 motes... made a primal water and then put it in AH for 25g...
You can kill mobs for an hour or two, gather 10 primal waters then put them in AH, and with two hours killing you will have earned about 180-250g!

They drop in Terrokar Forest where Skettis is. They are Water Elementals.... lvl 70-71 and 1 72 elite. i got 3 primals in 1 hr

Unstable Aff Curse of agony and Curroption...After that the mob will shoot a Frost Bolt on you! And dont do Drain Life it will Just interdupt wait until it Hits you and Drain Life after that the mob must got 29%-34% Hp Or Less... Wand Him 2-3 Time and his dead...

Thats what i did do and the mobs aint behind each other 15yeads so Try to use Dark Pact on the way...
And When the imp doesnt Got mana Life trap!

My Gear when i farm: No spell dmg only stats Tex 40Stam 40 Int

14k Mana/12kHp

The very best spot for grinding motes of water/primal water is without a doubt the lake north-east of Shattrath. Coords 40,11

The mobs in this lake are called Shimmerscale Eels. They are the only mobs in the lake. They have only 3000 hitpoints and they are lvl 62/63 only. They die with the smallest effort and they have a very descent mote of water-droprate.

Don't be fooled by the idea that higher level creatures have a higher mote-droprate.

To speed things up, take some underwater breathing potions or nagrand cherries with you. (Locks and Shammies don't need this of course).

Please give it a try and be surprised how easy it is to gather motes of water.

i actually did a study of sorts..

elemental plateu(however you spell that :P): 7 motes/ 20 kills

lake in nagrand at 58,30: 10 motes/ 20 kills

lake east of shat at 39,9: 2 motes/ 20 kills (not sure what happened there)

skettis: 6 motes/ 20 kills (quite dissapointing)

enraged water spirits north shadowmoon valley: i killed 10, got no drops and gave up...not sure what the problem was there either...

One major point being missed when saying farm this mob or farm that mob with regards to droprate, is basically, how fast you can kill it, if mob A drop like 10/20 and takes 20 secs to kill, but mob B drops 6/20 and goes down in 10 secs, farm what dies fastest with regards to how many motes you get.

Just wanted to update this for people who are looking here to decide where to farm for their frozen shadowweave or what have you.

I farmed mine at the lake outside of shatt and the lake in nagrand and one of my addons keeps tally of the drop rates so here they are:

Shimmerscale Eel 117/338 = 31% drop

Lake Spirit (elementals in nagrand) 29/83 = 35% drop

Not bad in either place. Neither place is as crowded as the plataeu and you can que for a BG and while you're waiting farm the ones outside of Shatt. Good luck

got 6 primals out of skettis in 41 minutes today. the elementals usually drop 2 motes at a time there. It is pretty decent when it isn't crowded.

ok just so all of you know. The best way to farm motes of water is to fish them. If you dont beleave me, fine more for me but i can promis you that in the time it takes for one 10min fishing luer to expire you can fish anywhere frome 2-3 primals : )

I think blizzard nerfed the motes of water from the eels in slymyr lake... i spent about 10 minutes killing about 30 of those eels the other day and I no longer get ANY from them... before I happened to get a primal, 6 green drops, and a blue drop within 15 minutes... maybe Blizzard is giving me negative Karma for such a great loot day...

The posts above are correct - The primal Shadow to Primal Water is a DISCOVERY recipe only - basically if you want this recipe - keep making xmutes and you'll get the recipe.

On a side note - NO it does not matter which xmute you do - it does not increase the likelihood of a particular recipe from dropping, and also NO it does not matter if you are alliance or horde - basically if you have a DISCOVERY recipe it's completely random.

FYI - I got the recipe for primal shadow to primal water - by making a primal might xmute

Earth to Water trans is amazing. Buy Primal earth for 3g, change it to water sell it for 15-20g DON'T MIND IF I DO!

I do the same thing on Bleeding Hollow Horde side. Buy a primal earth for 3 gold do the xmute and sell the water for at least 20 gold. Easy days work. On a side note I learned this recipe by getting revered with the spore people in Zag swamp.

dude u gotta work the server. put sum up for 20g then ppl will realise they are worhh that then put em all up for say 18g a piece^^ i faarm 20 a day sell for 20g on my server i make about 400g+the 100g from vendor crap i get a day. at the end of the day (counts fingers) zomg aroung 500g.

I've been farming the water in Silmyr Lake, the one that's got the eels. And I only managed 4 motes after 20 kills, one of those kills granting me two motes. I farmed Throne of the Elements yesterday and didn't get any in the hour that I wasted.

I'm going to try that other pond in Nagrand, and see what it might bring.

Just farmed these things in Skettis. Great droprate.. farmed 5 in about 30 minutes :> get a waterbreath potion and there comes the primal waters. GREAT money maker.

thanks alot for chords! 40. 11 in terokkar forest gave me 14 motes of water in 15 mins! Mobs have about 3.2 k hp, easy kill :P

update : 42 kills = 29 motes of water
