Drops from a rare spawn in UBRS, patrols between Goraluk Anvilcrack and the Rend event balcony. Can be targetted from the beginning of the instance. Just run top of the stairs and hammer /target jed macro. Might take few minutes for the target to pick him though because of the patrol route.

Dropped Briarwood on second kill.

Very good trinket for any caster, 29 more damage/healing all the time vs in pockets for other dps trinkets.

This trinket is great, 29 damage equip is great for any DPS caster type. There aren't any great trinkets that you see early other than Neltharions Tear that has damage. This is a definite item you want for stacking your spell damage and is really easy to get in a 10 man instance UBRS. Great pickup.

Interestingly enough, I've seen at least three 70 spell casters who still have this equipped, and not just people who don't know better. Apparently this is a great item to keep if you're having poor luck getting any upgrades to drop.

If you're thinking about dragging people into UBRS to farm Jed for this, think about getting

Jed Runewatcher spawns in UBRS. He is located just after the Rookery. When you go up the ramp and are on the balcony part, your MT will normally pull him out on the balcony.

However as said, he's a rare spawn.

So if you really want this reed:

go in the instance, the room where the first mobs of ubrs/lbrs are (just behind the entrance) and type /target jed (a '/target jed' macro would help :)))
you do not need to kill any mob, to check out if jed is in the instance, but sometimes you need to type /target jed 20 times and on different places because he doesnt stand still. Jed patrols in the room above, so if he is in the instance, you will aim at him. Dont give up after 5 trys, sometimes it takes a while.
So pick up some friends, everyone goes into an own instance, and the one who finds jed invites the other.
Whith this trick, we farmed him yesterday and
got 2 reeds in 1 hour.

I'll give you a hint....find a nice priest, ask them about the spell "mind vision". They should be able to set you up and instance with this in it. It's very possible and quite easy, takes about 60seconds from zone in to finding jed if you know where to look.

zone into brs and go up ramp - go as close to the mobs as u can without agro - create a macro /tar jed - spam for 30 secs or so because he wanders around- if nothing, reset instance and try again - u only can make 5 instances an hour so if u still cant find him just wait an hour and try again - when u find him make a rend run group and invite ppl only if they agree not to roll on reed

i found him after my second reset :D! and got the reed, works like a charm

since my previous post tried few times to trace jed and had no luck....
but just an hour ago i went there with a rogue friend and...we found him
so,as said this thing really works.i will just point out what wasnt clear for me and now is,so that i make it more helpfull to you.
True,you just have to go to MAIN BRS entrance and type from there.just do the macro thing and if he s there you ll get him eventually.
Now,Jed is patrolling along the big room after the rookery where anvilrack is also.If you are at main entrance think he s somewhere over your head (above you that is).To get to him you will have to clear first mobs as you enter,all mobs in summoners room (exactly after you open door of ubrs) so that you ll have the next door open,then proceed and kill the fire elemenal that will open you the door to rookery and then just go up the balcony.there you will have to pull-kill a group of 4 (if you take first door on the left while on balcony overlooking rookery) and 2-3 one man patrols.
For me the trinket dropped at first try.....

This trick still works. Walk in and get as close as you can to the mobs, keep trying to target him for 30-60 secs since he wanders around and only just comes into range

Today, Friday June 30th 2006, I can confirm this macro works.

Enter BRS, go up the slope and stand just ahead of the doorway. You'll see the usual mobs sat down on your left and right with the others walking around.

Create a '/target jed' macro and spam it.
If she (he?) is there, it will target within a minute or so, try a bit longer just to be sure. If you try and try with no luck, reset the instance :-)

the "/target jed" command does indeed still work. What I do is walk in, go just past the doorway and stand on the second large square tile, spam the macro while looking upwards, and do so for about a minute. Don't forget that if you don't find him the first time, you have to leave the instance, right-click your portrait, and do "Reset Instances" or you'll just be returning to the same one over and over.

Confirmed that this still works. We just had all 10 people enter the instance ungrouped, do the /target jed at the top past the doorway. When one found it, the rest backed out of their instance, joined a raid group, and entered the one that Jed was in. Simple as that.

This trinket is easy to farm if you have the resources. Get 7 to 8 guildies together (we're all well-geared, so we didn't need a full 10), and gather outside the entrance to UBRS. Have a rogue or a druid go inside, and spam /target Jed Runewatcher after opening the door. If he's not there, come outside and reset. If he is there, everyone runs inside and clears their way to him.

Lather, rinse, repeat. :)

I can confirm that the /target Jed trick still works as of 1.12.

We went today and did some 5-man runs (2 mages, warrior, priest and rogue) and had no problem whatsoever to get to Jed and kill him.

This may well be the longest living trinket in the game. I got this little bugger pre-TBC at level 56. It was a major improvment. I still had it after lots of MC, ZG and AQ20 raiding. Then TBC came out and I assumed I'd say bye-bye to her real soon. But no. A level 70 this was still in my trinket slot. I had this paired with Xi'ris' gift. I ran Karazhan. I ran Gruul. I did all these raids with a level 55 trinket. Sadly, I have just replaced her. I know use the blasted Skyguard trinket.

Anyway, get this item or perish!

I think th instance entrance is just a little too far to target him, but you can just have a rogue or druid stealth up to the door to UBRS and type /target Jed and he'll show up. Druids can also use humanoid tracking just in case.

Took about a week and 4 trys but I got mine. I was very happy since I've been doing UBRS runs for months hoping it would drop. Only saw it once in all that time. Using my hunter to find out if Jed was there and with the help of my guild I picked one up in a few days. Wish I had done that sooner.

when you get into the instance, go to the door to the upstairs then,
just type /target Jed

if Jed spawned, it appears on your target.

I think that together with Eye of the Beast these two trinkets will be the absolute best a mage can get in the trinket slot. Damage-wise of course.

For constant non-stop battle, this trinket is only topped by Neltharion's Tear, which drops off of Nefarion in BWL.

If we compare it to the ToEP for total, over-all damage output, this trinket is actually quite a bit better.

bumps damage by 175 for 15 seconds and has a 2 minute cooldown.

60 (seconds) * 2 = 120 (seconds) / 15 (cooldown) = 8 / 175 (damage) = approx 22
Take the total damage output and divide it out over the entire span of two minutes and it averages out to about 22 damage.

This is also only if you ALWAYS use it EVERY tme it comes up in combat.

Even the Warlock's Royal Seal is a little better.

This is, of course, not the case when burst damage is needed, such as in PvP or certain boss fights.

Got this on my very 1st ubrs run, there was a rogue checking for the spawn and reseted until he spawned, won the roll, it's a shame that priests and other healers are allowed to roll on this too, only lock/mage trinket imo, especcialy when you know how rare this drop is

This beauty drops from Jed Runewatcher in UBRS. To bad he's a rare boss. Briarwood Reed + Eye of the Beast is the best trinkets for Mages if you're not going to MC.

I got it yesterday. Just needed to do 3 UBRS Runs. :)

Ok I figured out how to check for him with my hunter. I have a cat that can go stealth. I used eye of the beast to walk him to the locked door just inside the instance, the one leading to UBRS. From there I just did a /target jed and it showed he was there. I got a friend to join my party, logged onto my mage, got up a raid group and killed Jed. Unfortunately on this 1st attempt he only dropped a wand. I'm going to keep this up until I get the reed.

Well I figured out how to see if he spawns before the raid starts. Had my priest mind vision to the lbrs area(mobs where u can do the shortcut jump) below the quest give Awbee in ubrs. You'll be able to look up and Mind Vision one of the mobs standing where Awbee is and continue on and check if Jed spawned. Well after resetting the instance about 7-8 times he finally spawned. I invited a friend and created raid. Logged out in instance and began LFM in IF with an alt. Sadly the instance resetted when I logged off. I now recall something about instances will reset after 30mins if no one is in it. Formed a whole raid for him and instance resetted =(.

does anyone know of an effective method of farming jed? as in, targeting him from somewhere relatively close to the entrance? I really don't want to have to run full ubrs/rend runs just for the small chance at a rare spawn since I've run it too much and that's the only thing i need from there..

edit: nvm that, it is possible to target jed from the ubrs entrance

Priest strategy to find Jed (or not) without waiting for him to patrol close enough:

1) Enter UBRS/LBRS and go up the ramp. Immediately turn left and you will be facing a wall with a column sticking out at about 1 o'clock. Run into the corner where the wall/column meet. You won't aggro anything...if you do, you're in the wrong place! This is where most can just click their /target jed macro for 2+ minutes hoping to find him.
2) Priests, /target gor <--- this will target a mini-boss guy in the big hall where Jed patrols. Cast Mind Vision.
3) Now that you are looking within this big hall, target a mob on the opposite/far side of the hall closest to either of the stairs that go up. Cast Mind Vision again.
4) From here, you can now /target jed and you're pretty much guaranteed to find him if he's there (do wait like 1 second for the mobs to spawn, since they only spawn if you're close enough to see them and you basically just mind-brain-teleported close to them). To be totally sure you might want to now Mind Vision one of the mobs up the stairs to get a little further reach to /target jed again, but I don't think this is necessary...

If you don't find him this way, you can immediately run out and reset, then repeat.

Remember you can only enter 5 separate instances each hour, so assuming you haven't been in any other instances in the last hour, only RESET the instance 3 times. This will use 4 of your 5 instances, allowing you to still be able to enter 1 more (hopefully to enter someone else's JED instance if your 4 attempts to find him fail).

Good luck...the drop rate sucks! Try getting a decently geared 5 man group together for Jed/Rend runs, maximizing your chance of winning the roll if it actually drops.
