This doesn't share a full hour cooldown with the mechanical dragonling, but triggers instead a minute cooldown. Therefore, both dragonling trinkets can be used successively.

This engineering pet has been nerfed in patch 2.4, it no longer scales with your engineering level. It is only lvl 50, and now has a 20 min cooldown. This shorter cooldown does not make up for the fact that this pet is now worthless after your character has lvled past the 50s.
Totally worthless in outland, the pet will miss ALOT and only hit in the single digits when it does hit.
Thanks Blizz, for nerfing engineering once again....

This trinket would have been extremely strong if it scaled by your engineering skill... Because, for example, on my level 50 rogue I have 375 engineering. A level 75 pet at level 50? Thats a bit insane.

Is this a 1 use item? I didn't make one because i thought it would b like the Harvest Reaper. If you only need to make it once that would be a nice addition to your Dps.

* When time is up, instead of dying, they disappear. You can't have more than 1 Dragonling out at the same time.

I'm pretty sure it uses the Shrink spell, too. I had to break it out on an elite and in the middle of the battle, the mob got Shrink-ed, so I figured it was my dragonling. Anyone else seen this?

The engineering combat pets are awesome, not only for efficacy but also intimidation factor. I have several times used a concurrent Battle Chicken/Dragonling to fight off opponents who did not expect a clockwork circus when they jumped a lone hunter. If for nothing else, it's worth the skill point you'll get for making it, even if you never use the dragonling.

I use the dragonling quite often. Very useful if you pull more mobs than you intended. Just summon this little guy and he'll usually pull a mob off of you. Only lasts a minute and has 60 min cooldown, but it hits hard and regenerates health very quickly. I prefer it over the mechanical chicken.

You can have 1 hunter/lock pet, 1 small pet, and 1 trinket pet at the same time. I've tried this on my hunter with mithril dragonling and goblin bomb dispenser.

And as far as the DPS misers go. ANY DAMAGE IS DAMAGE THAT GOES TOWARDS DROPPING YOUR OPPONENT, SO QUIT YOUR WHINING.

About the intimidation factor, it is possible to have two dragonlings, a cloud serpent hunter pet, and as many summons as two dragon's call swords (they're not unique and can be dual wielded), all at the same time. If i were the horde player I was up against, i would run when i saw a million dragons flying around a person's head. That's not even counting a little non-combat dragonling, too!

- 1 arcanite and 1 mithril (most likely possible).

- 2 mithril (not possible, because you can't hold 2 in your inventory, probably because of the unique status). I tried building my second one, and it gave me an error stating that I had one already in my inventory. So, I sent the one I had in my inventory to one of my alts, then made the second one, then sent it back to my main. When I tried getting it from my mail, it gave me the same error as before, so I clicked the Return button on my mail. I will try sending it again once I convert it to a arcanite dragonling.

- 2 arcanite (most likely not possible, due to the unique status of the item). If someone has verified whether this is possible or not, please post. I would love to have 2 lvl 65 dragonling fighting beside me, even if it's for 1 minute every hour.

What exactly does that mean?

The level of the Mechanical Dragonlings, Battlechicken and Bombs dropped by
the Goblin Bomb Dropper now scale with your engineering skill, so they will
be always useful against enemies. Their damage and health has remained the
same.

Is this only for them normal dragonlings? or also for them mithril and arcanite ones?

Would that mean if i haven't maxed out my Eng skill, he won't deal the full damage?

I use both, the Chicken and the Mithril Dagonling, on a regular basis, and since I'm lvl 55 now with 300 in Engineering I'm quite happy they scale up since Patch 1.4. They are useful as described above (add mob control), during duells und in otherwise tough situations.
Since patch 1.4 the dragon has a working fire breath (never happened to me before in > 1 month) and the chicken since gave me (just me, not my party members) a buff, 5% attack bonus or s/th in this area. It's a proc chance, I guess, it happened 2 times out of about 8 uses. The buff has a beak icon and is called "Kampfkraeher" (battle/fighting crow) on my German WoW Server.

Gotta love Blizz' humor.^^

Haven't seen it mentioned yet, but the Mechanical Dragonling and Mithril Dragonling are on seperate cooldown timers. There is a 30 second equip delay, so it is possible to have both dragonlings out every hour.

The Gnomish Battle Chicken is also on a seperate timer.

All Dragonlings seem to be on the same one minute timer as Target Dummies and Harvest Reapers, so these cannot be out at the same time.

The dragons level is effected by your skill in engineering, for every 7 skill lvls you have in engineering, your pet grows a level. This is perfect for a gnome (race) engineer because of their 315 capacity for engineering, you could be lvl 60 and this thing would be lvl 62. You can have both the chicken and dragon out at the same time, I don't know how many times my mechanical posse has saved my ass.

I can't speak for the arcanite dragonling, but I have tested this, and it is not possible to have the normal dragonling and the mithril dragonling out at the same time. What happens is, when you activate one of them, it puts the other on a 60 second cooldown. Therefore allowing you to summon the other only after the first one dies.

Then if they are in a separate timer, you can have 2 1-hour dragonlings and 1 30-min battle-chicken... So
you use Mech dragon -15 mins-
chicken -15 mins-
truesilver dragon -15 mins-
the chicken again -15 mins-
and the mech dragonling again! ... etc.
After that just add the arcanite dragonling for a special bonus! ;)
(as a 300 engineer it is pretty useful to be able to summon one clockwork lvl 60 pet every 15 mins regardless of your class don't you think? )

Sell the one you have to vendor, create new one, give that one to friend ( or sell it if you are a cheap bastard) go back to vendor and reclaim dragonling. ( don't sell anything else to the vendor in the meantme though, otherwise you might only be able to reclaim some bruiseweed you sold afterwards :-)

This is one of the best trinkets ever, Im a lvl 41 BM speced hunter so I already have 1 great pet, I bring this guy out to fight elites higher levels than me and he cuts them down. Today I killed the 43 elite raptor in STV, the only reason I succeded is because this baby helped out. Having a level 50 dragon doing 60 dmg per hit, + 250 dmg firebreath every so often makes soloing elites easy as pie!

Yeah, thats not always true. Instance elites can often be way harder than your common or garden elite. E.G. Instance bosses.

There are plenty of elite's where I think that Bliz have just decided you shouldn't solo, so theyve got special attacks and custom stats which make em tough.

killing unique elites 1 or 2 lvls higher or lower adds or not, prolly pretty tough. Be proud.

on my 60 warrior i like to go to STv and i let it solo lvl 40-50s and it kills them and its so funny bec its resistant to everything accept melee!=P

Used the Mech Dragon/Battle Chicken to solo 40 elite ogre for quest in Arithi Highlands on my 36 shadow priest. Not possible otherwise for me. Looking for the plans for the Mithril/Arcanite to add dps to the mix. Just for grins and giggles add a mech harvester for even more fun. Also want to see if you can have an exploding sheep in the mix at the same time. WOOT - instant party.

Not sure if anyone else posted about this (long threads), but the Battle Chicken/Mechanical Dragonlings can detect stealth very easily if you take the time to level up your engineering early.

I'm currently playing a 30-39 Mage BG twink, and my level 60 pets detect stealth from about 20-30 yards away (!). It's quite satisfying to see my chicken go flying across the map, then peck at a stealthed rogue/druid for 1 damage :D

Well in theory, you could have 12 pets out at once, i'll explain (its crazy, but i'd love to see the screen shot)

1) hunter pet or lock pet
2) regular pet (cat, snake, ect...)
3) battle chicken
4) Arcanite Dragonling
5-7) Barov peasent caller (brings 3 peasants out)
8-12) Alliance rat quest (have 5 rats following you)

Now if anyone can post this screen shot, i'll give you a cookie :P

I have the mechanical dragonlin and the Mithril version loaded on me. They only share a 1 minute cooldown (time dragon is out), so, you can't have them both out at the same time, but you don't have to wait 1 hour to get the second one out. I don't know if you could have at some point the arcanite and the mithril one loaded the same way. AND perhaps have the regular one in the inventory (to replace a cooling down one), so, you could spawn the 3 of them each hour (like one every 20 minutes or so).

I just had a fellow Engineer try to make me a Dragonling; my mats. He said the game said, "You already have one of these" even though it was in the bank.... and he couldn't make me one.

Is this a new Blizz feature?

I have him make me the regular Mech. Dragonling (lv.40) a few weeks ago - np.

Mithril Mech Dragonling *does* have firebreath.
I've gotten it about once per fight lately (~285 damage).

Damage:
Mechanical Dragonling
HP - ~420
Hit - 33-35
Speed - 1.8?
Damage - ~1130/minute

Mithril Mechanical Dragonling
HP - ~500
Hit - 58-63
+Fire Breath ~285 = 1x/fight
Speed - 1.8?
Damage - ~2300/minute

Definitely worth the upgrade.

You can pull out the second dragon, one minute after starting the first. You can have the icon in your bar, and just click it. It loads it into the Trinket slot automatically. (30 second cooldown before use) Click again to activate.

It is great alongside my Hunter pet, as it can fight for the full minute.
Also helpful to pull agro off you if you're a Mage, but doesn't live long.

Note - the Mechanical Repair Kit can keep it alive!

Level - I can't see any change in HP or damage from Level 42 to 55... maybe just gives the ability to see/hit higher levels. Although my level 42 Mech. Dragon. saw a 60 Rogue that ganked me 'way back when (before 2.0)

The schematic is not bop, so my level 68 main was able to go into hinterlands and get this for my level 35 engineer.

One nice thing about these engineering gadgets is that the cooldown continues to wind down when you are logged off. Nice for farming - kill a few mobs, log off and do something else or play another character, come back and you have your pets again.

The dragonling and the battle chicken together pretty much mean one free win for any battle. Not too shabby. Just make sure you toss a few attacks in yourself on each mob or you may not get credit for the kill (as with hunter pets).

thanks for post Baene, i never bothered to look because i just assumed they'd use same cooldown like any other same thing. i long sold my first dragon on warlock but i dont play her anymore anyway. i will remember then when my druid gets high enough for mithril dragon, this time around i wont sell old one to vendor. old dragon isnt much use at lvl you can get this new one, but they revamped pets and made them scale with lvl now, so maybe it'll be different.

This item can be created with either Gnomish or Goblin Engineering. The level of the pet is dependant upon your engineering level. Per 5 levels of engineering, your pets that you make (Mechanical dragonling, Mithril Dragonling, Gnomish Battle Chicken, etc.) makes the pet go up 1 level.

Yes gnomes with 315 enginnering get level 63 pets :D

I wouldn't be without my Mithril Mechanical Dragonling - best item I ever crafted. Hits reliably for 65 dmg or so, and has a nice fire breath weapon too. Rarely misses as it stays 8 levels above my level - nice to have a Lvl 60 pet on your side when you're Lvl 52 and getting hit by a Lvl 55 Mob!

It doesn't seem to have a great deal of HP, and will die quickly if it's getting hit (better to use hunter pet to tank if you can). For that reason, I wish it would fight till it is killed, rather than for the measly 60 seconds. That simple change wouldn't make it over-powerful, but would make it easier to get some nice pictures!
