When you loot the Inconspicuous Landmark to make Cuergo's Treasure appear, 5 mobs will spawn. Kill them and loot one of them to obtain the key.

Yeah I Soloed this as a 44 Priest.
As soon as you open run back and wait for the groups to walk off.
I pulled the group of 2 and one of them had it.. it was really easy.

I solo'd this as a 44 rogue. As after using the inconspicuous landmark, go into stealth before all the mobs spawn. Back up, and pull one mob. Easy. I would suggest ignoring the mob that spawns closest to the southern point of the beach, as the other mob seems to agro from a further distance. After that, loot the key, open the chest, and get away from the turtles. Blade Flurry, Adrenaline Rush, Slice And Dice, and Evasion are very good skills to use in this situation. +50% attack speed, 75% chance to dodge, and attacking 2 targets at once, FTW. Good luck.

Dont do this !@#$!

i did this quest only for exp , since i have good gear and money, i spend over 1hour finding the right place and when I finally killed all mobs and looted, I got NO(!) exp!
NO EXP = 0!
FFs all I got was some silver and @#$%ty greens.. worthless!

So , imo, DON'T DO THIS QUEST! special not if your levling and wants to go on with the game, this is %^&*ING $%^&!

sry for that , but I just did the quest so im stil @#$%ed!

Easy to get, i got it off the first treasure hunting spawn i killed, good drops from the chest.

There is no sense in going out and farming the map parts, as the quest isnt worth it exp wise. But when you have the 4 quests at lost rigger cove, and you happen to come across all the map parts (as I did) while doing it, you might as well get a little extra chase out of it ^^

Trackers Gloves of the monkey dropped today along with another mail helm.

On a different alt, i saw Wirts drop before.

I believe this is my favorite quest of all time. Since the first time i did it was three years and i thought i was a genius for discovering where the treasure map lead you...

Just did it as a 44 combat swords rogue.

Spawned the adds, ran away, pulled with bow, only 2 came....one dropped key.

If you have this quest, I recommend to abandon it if you just need exp! Doesn't give any exp and the rewards usually suck.

I had a problem with this quest today (Mar 4, 2009). I am a lvl 50 pally. I clicked on the thing in the sand at the far end of Tanaris, on the beach as I was supposed to. A treasure chest appeared. Then 5 guys (mobs) ran up and attacked me. I fought back. I killed the main guy (and picked up the key off him) , and I killed a couple of the other guys before I died. The cemetery is not nearby, so it took me a while to get back to the treasure chest. By the time I got back to it, the treasure chest was gone, I could NOT click on the thing to get it to appear again, I have the key and it says complete on the quest, I just need to turn it in by clicking on the treasure chest. Anyone know how I can get the treasure chest to reappear? so I can do that... I know this quest is a sucky one, but I just want to turn it in after all this trouble.

If you die forget about it, the chest will disappear and you won't be able to get anything. I forgot you can run away before they get you then they'll just hang around the chest and you can pull them from there. I was a lvl 53 warrior and they all killed me, when I got back to my corpse I was able to loot the key from one of them that I killed but the box was gone :(

Coordinates are correct. Here is how I did it as a 49 rogue. As soon as I clicked the pole I went stealth. 5 pirates came and went back. I needed the key so I had to kill them. I sapped the one in the middle and used evasion + blade fury to kill 2. I used a potion and killed the third. Then vanished.

One of the pirates I looted had the key but I went stealth and sapped 4th one and killed 5th first and then the last one. By this time chest disappeared. I clicked the pole again. Chest re-appeared together with 5 pirates again. I ran away. Then I came back and looted the chest while 5 pirates stayed a bit away.

BTW, there are a lot of lvl 50 gliders around and they will attack u if they are close. So clean the area a bit before you right click the pole.

As far as I can see the treasure within is random, like for a normal chest. Two greens, some silver and some grey loot worth a few coppers. The greens can be good for you (yay!) or good for someone else who has monies (yay!) or sold to vendor for a gold or two (still yay).
Quest is easy, you just click the pole, run like hell, wait for the three who come from the north to run away from the pole, kill them, take the key, go back to the chest and click it.
Easy as eating chocolate donoughts.

As a lvl 44 hunter there was no way i could kill all the hunters. So here is what I did:

Sent my pet in and killed one pirate, then ran for my life. I waited for my pet to disappear and leave combat. I called back my pet then sent him in again. Looted the pirate then ran. Called pet again, sent him in then opened the chest with the key i looted. Repeated this twice because i had 2 quests :).

All in all the loot value came to around 6g each time, plus about 25g from all the stuff i looted from the pirates. Not bad for about 1 - 1 1/2 hours work.

I thought this was going to be hard because I died the first time but it's simply. I'm a mage with long-range fire so all I did when I tried again was go and open to get the key, shielded myself and then when the spawned I ran for my life when the stopped running after me I slowly came back took the one closer out from a mountain and got the key btw I'm lvl 43 not that hard..

FIRST OF ALL:
This quest rewards no XP! The items you get are rubbish. It wasn't worth the swim time (let alone the 10 minutes fighting a level 50 turtle).

As a level 44 Paladin I was more threatened by the wildlife to be honest. I can take them but it's a hell of a long fight!

If you have trouble with the pirates, just run away the minute you finished 'opening' the landmark. The pirates rush in and the the group seperates. Pull the smaller group using a spell if you have one or by aggroing and running (you'll want to do it this way so a turtle doesn't bite your nads off mid fight). Kill these two pirates and hopefully one will drop the key.

If neither dropped the key go fight the group of 3, it's still not particularly hard as long as you pull away from the turtles.

Once you have the key you can go open the chest.

This is used in the Cuergo's Gold quest
which you get by getting the 3 map frags.

If you are playing Season of Mastery and finding the Questie location is off you are not alone. Head to 52.1, 94.4, click the mast in the sand and a group of 5 x lvl 44 mobs appear. If your level is low you can run off and return to fight a group of 2 and then a group of 3. The loot is just ok and the quest does NOT reward any XP. I did get a 14 slot bag and a single green item along with some greys.
