They drop off the Muckshell Clackers in Dustwallow Marsh.
The pendant dropped at 59,49 for me. I checked out the other area, but for a lvl 35 quest i didn't see the point of taking on lvl 44 mobs. so i found the lowest lvl muckshells i could find and got it on the second drop. I went from 40% into 39 to level 40 and got it on the same kill that put me up to level 40. This took forever. Up to 70% no rest, from 70% to level 40 was rested. So do some math and figure out how many I killed :(

Now, see, I was just the opposite, I got mine on the second kill. This is one of those evil quest items where some will get it right away and others will end up grinding for hours. It's definitely worth it though, even if you have to grind.

I don't think they did change the droprate. I've been trying to get this item and I've killed probably 30+ already and no pendant. This quest is much like Humbert's Sword.

This necklace is a very rare drop... i think i got mine near my 100ish cause it took me near 1hour and i got 4bars by killing those.
Guess i was just unlucky
Anyway worth the time ( 2quest of 3k xp + blue ring )

Do not be fooled by WoWHead's drop rates, of course. It records what the mobs drop when any 1 player kills that mob, so when a player who doesn't have the quest doesn't get the drop for x amount of kills, the drop rate goes down.

You guys must be very lucky, spended 3 hour allrdy to get that pendant still no luck (50 huntard)....this is one of the q´s which blizz has planned to kill people to get huge amount experience...if he doesn´t die for low drop rate before that :)

Ok - I am feeling the pain of others. I spent nearly 2 hours killing these things and nothing... very frustrating as I want to compelte the chain quest. The good news is hanging around the cliffs near the water NE of Mudsproket I get to kill Hayoc (https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/npc=14234) and get some decent green drops for the level.

Now, I am assuming the Razorclaw is extinct and the pendant is now a random drop from one of the normal muckshells. Still, the drop rate seems very low. I am using the addon "Questhelper" and I notice the icon for the pendant seems to move around the map from time to time. At first I thought it was telling me which muckshell had the pendant but then I was in the blackhoof village for another quest and it said the pendant was there. Glitch?

Well low, low drop rate for me, took quite a few kills.

Positive from all of this is it was quite satisfying using my Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole not just because of the water breathing, but the satisfying *THWACK* it makes slapping lobsters around as well.

Just want to say that i tried to get this last night for 4 hours killing over 250 muckshell; today ive tried for about 2 hours and i still have not got it so im now giving up :( on the plus side you can atleast make alittle money of the things they drop.

Like everyone else has said the drop rate for this darn thing is ridiculous. Honestly I wouldn't even bother with this quest if you don't want to be killing things for 20 minutes or more. Got disconnected from the server, logged back in and got it in two kills LOL. Very frustrating quest though due to the drop rate.

so i didnt really read all the comments, just looked that the drop rates and went with that... bunch of BS... killed those 39's for like an hour and a half and finally i decided to read the comments and i swam over to the coords and got it on my first kill - besides the 44 "Elite" that's there... *sigh*

Ive been killing these thing for 3 days now! My biggest complaint with this game has always been these "Gather quests" Im not saying the drop rate should be 100% but if the Item is only used for a quest TURN UP THE DROP RATE. Some of the drop rates are >10% and thats stupid

Gained about a fifth of a level just from killing muckshells. Extremely low drop rate, but you only need one, so that's expected.

There's a whole bunch of Muckscales around lvl 42 or 43 at around 55,61 (near the sunken ship in Tidefury Cove, just west of where Nat Pagle is). I was starting to get frustrated because I was having problems finding these guys. Once I found this area it became an easy and less boring grind, although it still took about a billion of these guys before the necklace dropped.

Oh, and I ran into the phantom muckdweller too... he was pelting me with lightning bolts from an unknown direction... my voidwalker couldn't even find him - I'd tell the VW to attack him, and my VW would just sit there not knowing what to do. I had to run (swim?) like hell to get away before I dropped.

I ground from just dinging 46 to halfway to 47... that's a total of 64000 xp I ground out of these muckscales. At around 200xp each, that works out to 320 of these &*!@ers I had to grind.

Ya, if by 'one of them' you mean 20 respawns of every mob is the denominator then, lol, 'one of them' does have it.

I can't agree with people complaining about it. Droprates for stuff tend to get worse and worse as you level up to make up for the increased #s of *!@# you have to kill to get the XP. Although, in outland it seemed to plateau and XP came pretty quickly.

Either the alcohol content of Tidefury Cove is higher than my Glenlivet, or they reduced the level of these guys substantially. 35-36

Edit: Got the pendant off a lvl 36 scrabbler after 5 or 10 min. The guy was very green to me (41), but the quest was still yellow and I nabbed 4350 exp from turning it in.

This quest is a real disappointment. I wouldn't bother with this quest. Its not worth the time nor the exp you would put in. I went from the wreck past Nat Pagle all the way to Theramore and back, twice and every island in between. Killed every clacker, pincer and scrabbler I could find and found Nothing...
Good riddence to a sucky quest. Good luck if you find it. I won't be wasting my time again.

Just an update - it is worth the effort - another 4350 EXP in Orgrimmar and if you stand a sec after talking to Zor Lonetree there is a couple good ring rewards, 1G 50S, and another 2000 EXP

I assume they updated the drop rate but as the title states, took ten minutes. It dropped off a Pincer at 59, 67. I did this as a scrap quest and it yielded 440 xp x 2. Did NOT start another quest. Ah well.

Leaolinea isn't wrong... frustrating to say the least but i am happy to report i found it at 60,67 right beside a shipwreck! It's only worth 4350 EXP but it starts another quest that sends you to Orgrimmar. Happy to be able to finally help out for all the help i have gleaned from the site!

So far, i'm from 70% lvl 43 to almost lvl 45 and no drop yet. just from 44-45 its 117500 exp, each mob gives you like max 250~~ exp... do the math... insanely low drop rate.

This has to be up there in the top ten of the most frustrating quests ever. I have used two Elixir of Great Water Breathing, so that's 2 hours of grinding and nothing.
