Kaw the Mammoth Destroyer can be found at 53,24 riding Moria.

Once you mount one of the bull mammoths, you'll have 3 abilities to use:

Mammoth Trample (0.25 sec cast with 4 sec cooldown)
5266 - 7734 damage on Kaw or Minions of Kaw within 10 yards

Mammoth Charge 5-30 yd range (0.9 sec cast with 8 sec cooldown)
Charges Kaw or a minion of Kaw, inflicting normal damage plus 2647 to 2953 and stuns the opponent for 3 sec

Thundering Roar (instant cast with 15 sec cooldown)
The mammoth bull trumpets a monstrous bellow, causing those in its immediate vicinity to flee

You'll first fight Moria, who will die within 3-5 hits with trample. Once that happens, Kaw will dismount and attack you. He hits your mammoth for between 300-400, but you should be able to kill him easily. If you get overwhelmed with adds, just use the AoE fear. Note: Kaw is immune to the fear.

Once he is dead, use the ability to dismount and loot the axe object that is next to his corpse.

When you complete this quest, the Wooly Mammoth Bulls will no longer be hostile to you.

If Kaw is dead when you get there, there is a small window of time where he can still be looted.

If you miss it, wait for him to reaspawn and either kill him yourself or let someone else do it so you can loot him.

Ok this is what you do:

1) go up to a Wooly Mammoth Bull (which you can find anywhere within the area of the quest) and mount it.

2) go to cords and wait around for Kaw who will show up on the balcony of the little house (i did this without killing Moria).

3) kill him with your Mammoth mount, and pick up the item he drops on the ground.

Just solo'd him as lvl 70 enh. Shaman without the mammoth mount (cause I didn't know...)

It's totally doable.

Wish you could mount the bulls any time after completing this quest; great fun with such a huge mount. Rode into Valiance on one and got some looks hehe

Not sure if this is a bug, but Kaw had just been killed as I got there. I was able to loot Kaw's War Halberd, which you place over his sword until it turns into a gear and voila! Quest complete.

Lvl 70 Warlock, destruction spec. Tried to kill Kaw as outlined above, but the quest seemed to be bugged. Moria was half-dead when I got there, but his name bar was grey and my Bull Mammoth couldn't hit him. My Mammoth died, got another one, but same situation. Kaw never did mount Moria, and Moria never did fight.

Finally attacked Kaw directly as outlined above, but a bunch of the minions re-spawned and my second Bull Mammoth went down. "When all else fails, RUN AWAY..."

Kaw followed me out across the road, so I turned and put my Voidwalker on him, and took him down with Shadow Bolts, Incinerate and Drain Life. He died, dropped the Halberd, I snagged it, quest done.

This is prone to being bugged. If Moria is half dead or "evades" go straight to Kaw and use the stomp. AOE fear the mobs. If you don't manage to kill him before your mammoth dies, just carry on yourself once you're dismounted - he should be sufficiently weak to finish him off - soloed on a 71 DK

Currently, user interface addons such as Dominos may interfere with this quest.

When a player mounts the bull mammoth, the typical UI is replaced with an exclusive "mount UI". There are mammoth-exclusive attacks in this UI's action bar, and without them, it's difficult (if not impossible) to win the fight against Kaw.

I resolved this by logging out, turning off my action bar mods, and logging back in.

He is possible to kill minus the mammoth mount (I no where's the fun in that?) but I (and my minion) just killed him with ease alone as Unholy DK spec.

amazingly enough, i tried to solo it de-mounted on my 71 prot warrior, trying to help a friend , she went afk and lookie here i killed em =)

Here's a great bug for you: Every time I mount an elephant, I'm looking at its butt! Yes. That's all I can see. There's no way to see where I'm going or whom to attack. I reported it to Blizzard and, as usual, they could tell me nothing.

Yet another indication of lack of programming skills.

What is interesting about this quest is that when you turn it in, all Wooly Mammoth Bulls will remain netural.

I guess it's their way of thanking you for taking out their #1 nemsis.

Please, be advised that it's possible to spare the D.E.H.T.A quest Kaw the Mammoth Destroyer for a while, especially
when tactics to solo this quest is yet missing. You can also verify that your wooly mammoth bull serves you
as a mount in the whole wide Borean Tundra. It's fast and does all the trics a normal mount does+some more.
You may even like it so much that you want to take it to Kalimdor with you. This suits fine for the Zeppelin
personnel. It's ok to carry an elephant with you, if you prefer. Of course our
ways departed when the zeppelin arrived to Durotar, and there was left only Emote /e /cry .
Schwesterein lvl 70 undead warlock ps. I'd like to know how many Mammoths you can fit in to a single zeppelin?

I killed Moria and Kaw, but his body was under Moria, making it impossible to loot him...

Had a lvl 72 warrior help me at lvl 70. About 22 - 25k hp and you can only attack him once he gets on his elephant.
The minions are particually tough and annoying seeing as though they respawn nearly ever 30 seconds or so.

Nah, I'm gonna be different, and actually turn the quest in. The way I see it, i can either get a mount I can only use in borean tundra, or get a nice green, rep, and achivement, and I can just buy myself a mammoth mount at lvl 80. (Does anyone not want to buy one of those?)

And just to help anyone like me who has a severe lack of common sense:

a) It's probably a good idea to clear the immediate area in front of Kar of the adds first. Although you can AoE fear them, they really wear your health down over time. Mammoth don't have much health!

b) After Kar jumps on Moria, run just outside his encampment. It'll save you from any remaining adds, and the only other mobs in the vicinity are the mammoths, who are all now passive and will ignore you.

I did this without the help of a mammoth.Killed some of the minions,then fight Moria and Kaw ,killed Kaw and that is all.

Man, did I luck out on this one. Ally was at half health fighting dismounted Kaw. PVP'd him and then was actually able to grab the halberd! Can't get much easier than that!

This quest was very annoying. i died repeatedly trying to use the mamoth mount. i finally just cleared mob and took him on solo once he mounted up. Level 70 hunter with beastmastery and not any particularly great gear

Didn't even see the part where you could use a mammoth. Soloed easily as a 72 DK without one.

My usual luck ... goes like this: I started fighting Kaw. He didn't respond, and finally ran and mounted up. So I had to kill Moria, and then him.
There were so many adds around his corpse I couldn't pick up the halbers.
But finally, the very second I got it, I died.
When I ressed it wasn't in my inventory.

Btw, I had cleared away the adds first.
That apparently is one detail that isn't as mentioned ... unless my bad luck reaches as far as to alter the game mechanics too.

Just so ^&*!ing tyypical. SAad but true.

How is it that some people are haunted by this kind of bad luck!

Anyway, well described, and your descriptions work (only not for those who are unlucky ... not because anything's wrong with your descriptions, but simply because ... we're iunlucky!> It's in the very definition of being unlucky)

Well, usually I abstain to write when I have these stupid coincidental unlcuky events.
But this is just one of those points where a person "HAD IT!"

(even gathered ears first, taking the time to do it well. But no doing things well and thoroughly helps bad luck)

Couldnt fight him until I walked up the ramp. He then ran to the mammoth & mounted up befor attacking me.

So. I just attempted this quest 4 times (because I am not a quitter) and... ended up walking away wit it yet incomplete.

I was unable to attack Moria or Kaw at first.

After I logged and came back, I was able to kill Moria and Kaw but unable to dismount the mammoth.

Both Moria and Kaw respawned after about 1 minute.

I killed them again. Still couldn't dismount.

So I ran around until the minions killed the mammoth...

..and then I could not loot Kaw.

I am abandoning this quest. I do not have the stamina for this kind of debauchery!

Just finished it.

Killed some of the Minions. Mammoth was at about half health, so I backed up and dismounted. Then I killed another minion. Mounted my horse, found another bull mammath, mounted it.
Went back, charged Moria, Klaw mounted her, I killed Moria, and got Klaw low on health before the mammoth died, then I finished off Klaw and looted him.

FYI I backed up while the trample was recharging so I ended well away from any other minions.

I just solo'd this as a level 74 Rogue with good equipment, but still totally squishy.

I went in and had a lovely time killing off minions, one by one, collecting their ears and quite a few "lovely charms" for the Love is in the Air event that's going on now. Then I crossed the road, got up on the mammoth and went back to go after Kaw. More minions had spawned. I could kill lots of them, but I found controlling the mammoth very awkward. When its health got low, I went back across the road, dismounted and went back, Stealthily. I thought I'd just try to take out Kaw myself. But although I tried several times, when you go up the ramp to the deck where he stands, he runs to his own mammoth and gets aboard. So, I couldn't do my usual roguery.

Finally, I went back to the top of the ramp and waited. Kaw and Moria came around. I had a quick idea and threw a Saronite bomb (I'm an engineer). It hit pretty hard, something like 1150-1500 fire damage. Moria charged the platform and I fought her. Killed her. Then killed Kaw, too, though he took longer. Finally killed two minions, as well. All done! It was fun, but I don't think I could have done it without the help from the bomb.

Easily soloed as 70 shaman with 70's blue and some Northrend greens.

Just kill the adds first before engaging Kaw, then get a new mammoth and just run away, charge, run away, charge, until the mammoth drops dead, and repeat for Kaw himself.

Tips.

1) When Moria dies, pull Kaw away from it. I killed Kaw and his halberd dropped under Moria. unlootable.

2) even though this is a vehicle fight, you take damage too. please be at full health (obvious, but...)

I completed it, but did not turn it in right away. You're still able to ride the bull. :) I rode one up to Amber Ledge. I could not click to get the flight path, tho, so when I dismounted, I ended back where I mounted the bull.

I'm not sure if this quest is just designed screwy or just not friendly to casters in general. So far I've done this quest three times, twice with a mage, once with the warlock and the only time I died was actually using the mammoth with my lock. By the time the mammoth died, I had so much threat on me that my felguard had no chance of pulling Kaw off of me. So I rezzed, went back and did it the old fashioned way - just DoT him and heal pet - very, very easy. With a mage do not use the mammoth either, just kite him down the road to the airstrip (or the other direction if you're horde). A mage can (should be able) to dps him down much faster than the mammoth ever could while taking much less damage than in melee combat with the mammoth. When Kaw dies you need to loot the weapon he drops instead of his corpse.

A parasite lives in a close relationship with another organism, its host, and causes it harm. The parasite is dependent on its host for its life functions.

Kill the lawn trash first.

He's a pretty weak elite. You don't need to use the mammoth to take him out.

The halberd drops next to him when he dies - you loot that item, not the body.

If you accept but don't do the quest, you can ride any bull mammoth at any time and they're always yellow to you.

EDIT: You have to dismount to loot.

get the quest, find a wolly mammoth bull and mount up. go to 54,24 and fight the mob with the bull. he goes down pretty easy. u do not need to wait for him to mount or anything. if he's on the platform, use the bull's charge. his mount never aggroed.

I am using Titan Panel and Bartender 4. When I got on the mammoth, I lost my UI - no quest bar, no buttons, nothing. Had to log out and log back in. When I did, I lost the mammoth mount but I had my UI back. Someone else was killing Kaw just as I got there and I could complete the quest from that player's kill.

you go to 54,24 you need to wait for the Turan (sp?) to get on the mammoth and then you fight him. Not bad Killed him he is 72 elite and I was 70.

You can ride a mammoth to kill him

Approach that I used:

1. Clear the trash mobs away from the front of the platform. (before you bring your mammoth)
2. Go get your mammoth.
3. Wait for Kaw to yell some garbage and he will get on his mount and hang out for awhile in front of the platform. Stay outside of his aggro radius and *do not attack him yet*
4. After ahile he will get off his mount. (His mount disappears, it is one less mob to fight by just waiting a few moments.)
5. Charge him with your Mammoth.
6. Stomp the pudding out of him.
7. Dismount to pick up the halberd.

Kaw seems to repeat this pattern: He hangs out on his platform for a few seconds (not attackable). Then he gets on his mount. Hangs out on his mount for awhile (attackable if you want to fight mammoth before you can get to Kaw.) If not attacked, Kaw then dismounts and hangs out for awhile (still attackable). Then disappears and respawns after a few seconds. (not 100% sure about that cycle, but that is what he did while I watched him.)

I've seen a few high rated posts about struggling with this quest, and resorting to killing him without using the mammoth.
However, this quest is quite easy once you know how to use the mammoth effectively.

The abilities:
1. Trample (Does fairly high damage, but has a cool-down. 2 tramples is enough to kill a minion; you'll need many more for Kaw.)
2. Charge and Stun (Important to note that Kaw is not immune to the stun - use this to your benefit.)
3. Fear (Kaw is immune to fear, but it's useful to chase away any minions that spawn while fighting Kaw. Has a fairly long cool-down.)

⚠ Don't try fight Kaw standing still, he'll kill the mammoth before he dies.

It's a simple rotation to kill Kaw:
1. Charge (stunning him)
2. Trample
3. Move away and wait for cool-downs to wear off. (Perhaps try keep relatively close to the camp area, as I don't know if he'll tether.)
4. Go back to 1.

The above minimises the damage Kaw does to your mammoth/vehicle and you should have no trouble killing him without being forced from the vehicle.

Before mounting:
Approach from the south, along the road (from the quest giver).
Kills the mobs around that side of the platform, below Kaw.
Go get a mount.
Go up to Kaw on the platform, he will aggro a bit and start his talk, then he runs an mounts up and after few posturings,
he will come out to the road south of his platform, where you approached from.
You can kill him there without aggro anyone else.

One thing I failed to remember from the first time around is that you will need to kill Kaw's guards before anything else. Be prepared, their respawn rate is pretty quick. I killed about 22 before getting close enough to the platform to notice that Kaw is a 70 elite, which I hadn't remembered. At that point, the phrase "an elephant too far" (oh wait, maybe it wasn't an elephant) came to mind. I looked at the rewards again and sure enough - the rewards have been calculated for defeating a non-elite and in my case, none were worth the nineteen respawns. Have fun Kaw, and nice, cushy job your agent negotiated for you!

IMHO, it is easiest to clear from the north. Kill maybe 5-6 of his henchman and that gives you the whole open field to fight him.

Charge, trample, run away, wait for CD on charge to come back, rinse, repeat. Like others have said, do not try and fight standing still and it is an easy fight. His mount will go down in about 3 attacks and he will go down in another 3-4 IIRC.
