This gnome can be found on the second level of Booty Bays docks. Just up the ramp next to the hanging shark. He will be on the first house after the small bridge.

from the boat: follow the pier. see how it splits up or down? go up the ramp...stop. see the little guy sleeping? turn around and go up the other ramp. stop. see the bridge on your right? almost there! keep going straight, first door on your right.

The flavor text on this NPC suggests that despite his affiliation to the art of Gnomish Engineering, he seems to despise anyone who may be from Gnomeragan. I wish there was more story to this.

Oglethorpe makes a point of telling players who speak to him that if they represent Gnomeregan, he has nothing to say to them and that they should leave. The reason for this hostility is revealed to Horde players who visit him to learn Gnome Engineering. According to Oglethorpe, he was ostracized by the rulers of Gnomeregan because they considered him an "intellectual threat." Indignant, he left Gnomeregan for good, which likely led to his residence in Booty Bay. Oglethorpe tells the player that because of the way the ruling faction of Gnomeregan treated him, it lost one of the greatest gnome engineers alive.

The show wasn't out when the game launched, but it's kinda funny that someone named after an Aqua Teen character also gives players a Robot Chicken, which is a Cartoon Network show as well.

Quests cannot be turned in to this NPC if you are hated with Booty Bay. So, if you are trying to restore your Booty Bay reputation by doing the Mechanical Chicken Escort quest, you will not be able to turn it in (while Hated).

Is there a way to find out if you've completed all the robot chicken quests? I certainly did one, probably two, and maybe all three, but that was years ago, and now that pets are on tabs, I want my robot chicken pet. Do his comments to players change if you've turned specific quests? This is very frustrating.

So I found out that if u are hated with booty bay you cant talk to this guy, which is bad for me because i became a gnomish engineer so i could farm the Lil' Smokey recipe off of him a few days prior to actually becoming hated with them. Hopefully theres a way to get my reputation up after im done getting rep up with the bloodsails XD

When I found out that Oglethorp was in BB, I died a little inside :(. You see, I'm about 1/8 of the way to Hostile. That's around 5-10k rep I'm at now (I don't know the exact number; I'm writing this as maintanence is up). I spent around 50-70g getting Ratchet from 21k/36k Hated to 0/3000 Neutral. And this one is Silk cloth, which costs quite a bit more. :*( And the Gnomish engineering is always the coolest too...Goblins don't teach jack that's ny good. WTB Rocket boots & X ray specs :x

I find Oglethorphe's alarm clock ingenious. In his hut, he has a device over his bed that periodically draws out a hammer out from the wall in order to whack at him while he's lying down. One of the greatest gnome engineers alive indeed!

After unlearning Goblin Engineering, I got the mats to complete his quest by looking it up ahead of time.

He still will not let me learn Gnomish Engineering, directing me back to Tanaris to unlearn Goblin Engineering, which I've already unlearned.

Edit: Unclear to me, you just have to click on the book again after you unlearn it.

And, to top it off, if you are hated with the goblins from doing the bloodsail grind, he will not talk to you. Awesome for the engineers that wanted to learn goblin engineering.

This guy took me forever to find for some reason...

From the entrance:

Take an immediate left after you go down the stairs from the entrance (you'll be running along a cliff side).
Keep following the path, passing Booty Bay Blacksmith.
You'll see Dizzy One-Eye, keep following the path. Take the 2nd door on the left of the house Dizzy is standing next to (the house right before the bridge, there is a barrel next to it).

He's an engineering trainer. Set your tracking for profession trainers and go toward the red bridge on the second level, the one you cross to get to the flight master. He's in the building to the left of the red bridge.

Interesting tidbit, this NPC is named after some Aqua Teen Hunger Force things. Oglethorpe is one of the Plutonians, his sidekick being Emory. Obnosticus is the discoball/higher power that the Plutonians had installed in the ship by the same guy that installed their laser forcefield.

Ok, for all that desire to take Gnomish Engineering (specialization path) you NEED to speak with Tinkerwiz in the Barrens first, before making your trip to Booty Bay. Tink will give you a book to take to Oglethorpe. Once this is done Ogle will talk to you. Hope this helps =)

What the &*!@ ? i've been looking for him for like 10 minutes, i couldn't find him. I'm precisely at 28,76 where he's supposed to be, there's a yellow spot on the map right where i am, but he's just not there (did the whole house).

Not the first time I waste several minutes trying to find this guy. When you enter Booty Bay follow the boardwalk towards the buildings, go up the first ramp, turn do a 180 go up again... you pass a red bridge walkway and the first house on your right is his home.

Fair warning for other fellow Dummies playing Classic WoW:

Completing one of the The Pledge of Secrecy quests and then not completing one of the Show Your Work quests locks the player out from switching their Engineering specialisation. Even if you unlearn Engineering and then re-level it, you will still be offered the same Show Your Work quest as before.

Book "Soothsaying for Dummies" will not offer to switch your specialisation because the game doesn't consider you to have one in the first place.
The Game Masters will not help you with this problem. Believe me, I've tried.

Easy location reference point: find First Mate Crazz on the first level docks (very center of the U-shape of the dock, 42.6 72.0 coords). Facing the buildings, Oglethorpe is in the building directly above him. Cheers!
