One of the few bosses in Ulduar without a hard mode
From the videos i've found it seems that Nuking his right arm (when it's on) and just healeng through his left arm is the best way to fight him.
anyone from the ptr can confirm this? and maybe tell us if he has an enrage or not

On normal, we had all dps start on the right arm. When the arm died, melee focused on the left arm (to avoid aoe from the adds) and ranged took out the Rubbles. From that point we had ranged dealing primarily with adds unless the right arm respawned and was gripping someone. Since you are dealing damage to him equal to the amount of health of each arm that dies, focusing on him isn't really necessary.
But like most things, you need to find what works for your group. We were melee dps heavy (4 melee, 2 ranged) and our melee had no trouble tearing through the arms by themselves while myself (ele shaman) and warlock nuked ads.

Rubble adds have 130,000 HP on heroic mode and spawn 5 at a time when the right arm is destroyed.

His left and right arms have 544k health on normal
and his body only has 3.63 m
He also becomes the bridge when he dies, making him one of the required bosses in ulduar.
Currently, hunter pets won't attack anything except the adds in this fight.
If you make your pet attack while you are in melee range, he will attack from there. You must manually bring your pet to him.

I have a question about this encounter.
It seems that when ever the second tank taunts Kologarn off the first one, he will use the breath move on the second tank causing him to die almost instantly. The first tank hasn't even moved so there are targets with in melee range from my PoV, but I could be wrong.
Does the person with aggro have to be in range?
Any tips/suggestions ?

As a holy paladin, the thing that struck me the most about this encounter was:

As a general info, I was unable to bubble out of the hand when it caught me, so I suspect mage ice block will not work either.

Downed him last night, with ranged-heavy group. Way we did it was MT and OT stayed on the body and had a taunt rotation for his Crunch Armor debuff. Started the fight by nuking down the right arm. when it went down, the pally tank grouped up the adds and AoEd them down while everyone focused on the boss. When the Right arm came back up, rinsed and repeated.
The one thing that really made the fight more tolerable, was a hunter with Nature Resist aura up which took the edge off the Shockwave from the Left arm. We totally ignored the left arm and got him down fine.
Just dont stand there and let the eye beam kill you. The healers have to keep the tanks up and heal anyone caught in stone grip when the Right Arm is up. Do your healers a favor and run away from the eye beam.

Wasn't to bad to kill on normal
Down the right arm asap
Kill adds make sure to pull away from the group because they AoE and just AoE them down. Melee will die pretty fast if they are near pack but range isn't that big around them.
Focus on the body till arm repsawns (60sec I believe maybe 50)
Repeat till dead.
Side notes:
Melee pets will only attack the body (imp will attack arms) if u don't send to the body they will just stand there.
Eye beams will come in a straight line parallel towards the target. When you see this run to the back immediately and try to avoid running into the group and just run around but watch out as it has a 3 yard zone in where it hits you. Or you could probably have a healer keep you alive as it is not super deadly.
If he grips you and dps is not good he will kill you after probably 6 sec or so, he hit me with 1 hit for 81k damage at the end of the grip (forgot the name of the move). And healers have to be on point when he grips someone health goes down fast.
I wanna try to telport out of it but didn't have portal down when he grabbed me. Doubt it will work but worth a shot.
ps Big wigs warns who is gripped, I don't think dbm does as of last night at least.
edit: Also believe fight may be bugged, He killed tank with his breath a couple times at random, not sure if was due to taunt or what not.

Also make sure not to fail to ledge boss. You can fall off the ledge and die.

after about 15 seconds, which is pretty much guaranteed to kill the target.

On Heroic mode, the melee in our raid were having an almost impossible time of consistently finding the Right Arm's hit box. Not sure if there's a trick to it, but everyone was reporting a severe lack of connecting with normal swings, even if special attacks were hitting.
I'm hoping this is a bug, or there's just a trick that we're missing. But its very annoying.
EDIT: I'm now being told that the true location of the Right Arm's hit box isn't out on his fist or anything, but its
centered on Kologarn's body.
To hit it, apparently you are actually supposed to be facing straight ahead towards the body, just like the tank. Won't have a chance to test this tonight, but it makes sense based on some of the "You are facing the wrong way" messages we were getting from some angles. I think what happens is that his hit box is so large that its easy to
think
you're in the right place even when you're actually not.

You can "debug" most Petproblems by calling them to you a few times. Sometimes they just port to you, other times they run to you. After that they should be useable again.

10-man version:
2 Tanks
, a.k.a. MT1 and MT2 (mandatory)
3 Healers
(we found this necessary because if you only take 2 healers, both can be taken out of action when 1 gets the eye beam and the other one grabbed)
5 DPS
General Tactic:
MT1 runs in and starts tanking on Kologarn (the body).
The healers position themselves in a triangle behind the MT, maintaining 5-10 yards distance (Don't stand too close to the body or you will get spell interrupted).
Ranged DPS take positions behind and to the sides of them. (this will leave space in the back for everyone hit by the eye beam to run around).
Melee DPS stand close to the tank, you can hit the Right Arm from there and never have to move the whole fight.
All DPS start nuking the "Right Arm" on the left side, going all out. Use all cooldowns, trinkets, buffs, bloodlust/heroism if available.
Before the arm dies, MT1 and MT2 switch tanking on The Body. (this is to get rid of the
debuff
)
MT2 is now on the boss, so MT1 picks up the adds who spawn when the Right Arm dies.
Melee DPS continues on The Body. Ranged AoE DPS nukes the adds, then proceeds on The Body.
MT2 and MT1 switch tanking on The Body again, as soon as the
debuff
on MT1 is gone again.
As soon as the Right Arm respawns, all DPS have to switch to it immediately.
Keep doing this until Kologarn is down.
Notes:
If your DPS isn't high enough to make the Right Arm drop the
Stone Grip
before the grabbed raidmember dies, you can try to continue with 2 healers and 1 more DPS. However you might have to give up if this doesn't work for you as well, assuming your gear and skill level just isn't high enough.
The tank on the adds can't use abilities like
Challenging Shout
. This will cause aggro from The Body, and cause the issue with the 1st in aggro list not being within melee range of The Body -
Petrifying Breath
will kill the tank.
Tank switches need to be done everytime the crunch armor debuff has run out on the spare tank.
Just ignore the Left Arm. The AoE damage done by it is healable, and if you kill it you get into more trouble by having to kill additional adds. Which means losing DPS on The Body/Right Arm. If you have a hunter or a shaman, use their nature resistance buffs to reduce the AoE damage.

Focused Eyebeam
has a limited minimum range so if you stand close to him you will not get targeted by it. You will however get spell interruptions at times, but mostly this is weighed up by the reduction in damage taken by the raid.

Quite easy boss actually, first you gotta find the 4 corner mirrors which are located in the 4 corners of the world, after that you assemble them at the temple of light the get the
mirror shield
Then you can start heading to Kologarn, whilst fighting him you must avoid his graps and slams, when he casts his eye beam you use your Mirror Shield to redirect it to him making him weak, when weak you run up and hit him as many times as possible, if done proberly, you would need to redirect his beams 3 times.
And oh yeah, go on account manegement and change name to "Link"

3 Things to note about this boss (25):
1. Melee stand in the middle. You can target the Right Arm, Kologarn, and Left Arm, AND ATTACK THEM, from the middle.
2. Ranged, stand in a semi circle. Oblivion hurts.
3. Kill the right arm, a 3rd tank (We had a prot pally and a prot warrior, making 4 tanks, pally for AOE threat, warrior for initial threat and stuns) picks up the adds and builds threat, attack the body while he does this, some ranged aoe the adds down.
You kill the right arm 3 times, after the 3rd time the right arm dies, kill the left arm. It should be low (around 50-70%) and killing it will kill the boss.

To Unholy Death Knights: If you put diseases up on an arm and hit Pestilence, the diseases will bounce to Kologarn himself. Good way to up your DPS on this fight.

Here comes a curious thing I found about melee-ing the boss arms:
You don't need to stand under an arm (as many guild i've seen does) in order to hit it.
Attacking the "whole" body means also attacking the arm. Allow me to explain it with 2 screenshots:

In the Standing areas is where you can stand without jimping the tanks with the eye-rays, meleeing both arms.
The Aiming areas is where you should point the char (or your camera) to successful melee the boss.

I think the Nature Resistance Totem blocks off some damage from:
"Shockwave - Inflicts 8,788 to 10,212 (Heroic: 13,875 to 16,125) Nature damage to the whole raid.
Focused Eyebeam - Two of those will be cast simultaneously, each inflicting 2,775 to 3,225 (Heroic: 4,163 to 4,837) Nature damage, and following their targets. "

Protection Warrior tanking notes:
- The armor debuff frequently wears off after 1 or 2 stacks, meaning if you pay attention and communicate well over Vent, you won't necessarily need your OT to swap with you.
- If your OT is having trouble picking up the adds quickly enough when the right arm dies, you can tank at the 7:30 or so position at maximum range, and Thunder Clap when the adds appear. You'll get hit some in the back, but it's better than your healers getting killed.
- Watch out for an OT who uses an AoE taunt on the adds when the right arm is dead. It's easy for the OT to wipe the raid if he AoE taunts and then moves out of melee range, because it will trigger the petrifying breath.
- If you get overeager and move too close to him, you will fall off the cliff and plummet to your death, spending the rest of the fight looking at his low-poly feet. And for the record, he's wearing pants.

Major changes to several bosses in 3.1.2, here are the Kologarn changes.
* Focused Eyebeam (10) now inflicts 2313 to 2687 nature damage. (Down from 2775 to 3225 damage)
* Focused Eyebeam (25) now inflicts 3238 to 3762 nature damage. (Down from 4163 to 4837 damage)
* Stone Grip Absorb (10) now absorbs 80,000 damage. (Down from 100,000)
* Stone Grip Absorb (25) now absorbs 380,000 damage. (Down from 480,000)
* Stone Grip (10) now deals 2925 to 3075 physical damage. (Down from 3700 to 4300 damage)

It's really important to bring 3 very geared healers for this fight, obviously everyone needs to be geared but if you're going to rely on
one
role the most it's going to be the healers by far.
Holy Priests have the best time here, shaman and druids do not, make sure to bring people who can dual spec, AOE healing is badly needed here.

Just a general note to melee that might be a tad overeager to attack the torso. Yes, he's standing at the edge of a cliff, and yes, the fall will kill you.

I was MT for our 10 man normal fight against him last night. Our OT (or MT2) was a Prot Warrior. The Raid Leader told me to call for a taunt over vent when the Crunch Armor debuff reached 2 stacks. I never ever saw it stack. I'm using the standard WoW UI, no mods installed except the usual DBM, Omen, Recount, etc. After a couple of wipes, we decided to let the warrior tank the body and I'd DPS the arm/pick up the adds. The debuff INSTANTLY started stacking on him and I had to taunt off. After taunting, I still never received anything above one level of Crunch Armor.
This is the spell being cast on me:

Downed Kologarn a couple times on 10man. Raid setup similar on all occasions: 2 tanks, 3 healers, 5 dps. A few tips we found useful and details of our fight:
-2 healers were required on the tank. He took VERY spiky damage and he needed to be topped off immediatly.
-Sometimes the OT will pick up the adds, drag them to the side and he'll be targetted by a laser beam. Don't run, just pop a cooldown. As a warrior I was able to tank all 5 Rubbles AND the beam and one healer was able to keep me up easily while healing the raid as long as I used Shield Wall.
-We noticed a bug with his right arm. Sometimes, when he gripped someone RIGHT before the arm was killed, the person would get released but would STILL have the "Gripped" debuff on him/her. This would still deal damage and kill the person after a few seconds, with no way to "free" the character. Even though the person was free to act, not even an Iceblock saved our mage when it happened to him.

When our guild was attempting this, we tried placing some of our healers in melee, to help mitigate the troubles with eye beams. However, Kologarn seems to randomly do a pummel-type interrupt on any casters in melee range, which will lock out your healing for 8 seconds. Unless you are a resto druid, I would seriously advise against trying to stay in melee range.

Now then just for some basic
10-man strategy tips
for this boss (not that all the Monty Python lore isn't amusing), and this will be an
update from Patch 3.1.2
in which we've seen several changes to the mechanics of this fight (or rather, one large change that drastically changes everything).
So you wanna down the giant eh?
This used to be a fight similar to
Gluth
due to the fact that
Overhead Smash
, similar to Gluth's
Mortal Wound
, would stack on a tank and require a second tank to taunt the boss off of your MT while the debuff wears off. As of 3.1.2 this appears to be a thing of the past (though I can't see it documented anywhere so my group may have been lucky, but I'll get to that.)
Your MT is going to charge into this fight first, make sure that they have solid aggro on Kologarn otherwise you'll get treated to a quick and painful death via
Petrifying Breath
. Your OT is going to stand underneath your "focus fire" arm, which should be the arm labelled "
Right Arm
".
We do the Right Arm only because your raid healers can heal through the annoying
Shockwave
from the
Left Arm
, and also because the left arm becomes your killing blow towards the end of the fight. With each arm that he loses you will see his health decrease by 15% for 10-20 seconds. If this brings him to death then the cookie crumbles and you get to march over his corpse to the chest of booty beyond!
Your healers are going to want to concentrate heavily on raid heals for this fight due to that nasty Shockwave, and also have one single target healer fro your tank, and one single target healer that can bounce between healing your OT when adds are up (adds spawn directly beneath an arm once it shatters), as well as healing the poor soul who ends up getting
Stone Gripped
.
Also, please note the tracking
Eyebeams
. These will focus on and follow a single player. If you are that player don't be a noobcake and a) run at your healers, b) run at your tanks, or c) don't move. Be a good boy and go run to one of the corners until it's safe to come out again, this way you don't share the damage with everyone else.
Back to your tanks. When this battle was first revealed our
Overhead Smash
applied for 45 seconds, and unless you had an incredibly lucky tank (dodged often enough in the 45 seconds) this would stack until a) OT taunted the boss, or b) the raid wiped.
Last night my group and I noticed that the very same ability was now only applying for
5 seconds!
As a druid tank with nearly 50% dodge, Kologarn was not able to apply this quick enough for the debuff to stack. Leaving out OT to play with the adds, and us having to do a lot less dancing.
Now then there is a possibility that this was the debuff from the arms going down, and that I was simply dodging every application of the core Overhead smash throughout the entire fight, but I find that highly unlikely. If this persists then it looks like you can straight assign a high dodge tank (druid or DK) to the boss, and have a nice AoE pick up tank like a Pally or Warrior tank the adds when the arms drop.
Regardless of which is true you should now have a very good idea of how to succeed at this fight. It's definitely a fun fight, and the loots aren't all that bad either!

Strategy:
Main tank: Target and attack the main body. He will do an Overhead Smash on you, reducing armor by 25%. He casts it about every 15 seconds and it can be dodged/parried.
OT: Back up the MT and taunt off if they get 2 stacks of
Crunch Armor
until their stacks fade. Tank the 5 rubble that spawn when the Arms die.
DPS: Kill Kologarn's Right Arm. Kill the Rubble that spawns after it dies. Then DPS the body until the Right Arm respawns. Repeat by killing Kologarn's Right Arm again. After the Right Arm dies 3 times, you may consider killing the Left Arm to help finish off Kologarn if it's low from AoE. Note that his Arms' hit-boxes are centered around his main body. Example: you can be facing the body with the Right Arm behind you and still hit his the Right Arm, but if you stand with the body to your back or side and face the arm, you will have trouble attacking it.
Healers: Heal Kologarn's tank at all times. Heal the person who is gripped by the Right Arm (when you hear "I will squeeze the life from you"). Heal the raid from Shockwave damage (when you hear "Oblivion"). Heal the tank who is picking up the pack of 5 rubble (when you hear "Just a flesh wound" or "Only a scratch").
Petrifying Breath - Inflicts 14,063 to 15,937 (Heroic: 18,750 to 21,250) Nature damage every 1 second, and applies Brittle Skin, which increases damage taken by 20% for 8 seconds.
Cast if there are no targets in melee range

Please note that this is incorrect. He casts it if there isn't anyone targeting his body. You can have your OT and DPS attacking/debuffing the Arm and healers targeting raid members and if the MT dies (the only one targeting the body in this scenario), he will immediately cast his breath despite having many people in melee range. Also, proven when there is a wipe in some cases where there is no melee in range and he doesn't cast it, but instead finishes people off with "oblivions" (shockwaves).
To counter eye beam, I recommend that ranged and healers spread out along the back of the room by the door, using the dot patterns on the ground to spread out. If you suspect the beam is on you, run forward and run to the left or right (depending on which way has more room). This may be misinformation, but I believe that if melee are standing up close to the body, they can "deadzone" the eyebeam and never be a valid target for it so it will only ever target ranged.
Also note: You can fall into the pit which he guards. So don't run too far forward when trying to find the eye beam deadzone. He has a huge melee hit-box. Had 2 different MTs fall for it so far. LOL.

Until 3.1.2, our tank on the body would oftentimes build considerable aggro on it and then switch to also DPSing the arm. However, as of last night, this would apparently cause him to use Petrifying Breath. Thus, if you're tanking him, it seems you can't untarget him anymore.

Ironically,if Kologarn wasn't there, everybody would be screwed (No other way to get to Yogg) and Yogg would be safe and sound.

Yogg-Saron: Okay, so this whole plan is going pretty well. I've gunked up a tree in Grizzly Hills, I've enslaved the Keepers of Ulduar, and I've set up an impassable ravine between my inner sanctum and the outside world, so nobody can get in to stop me.
Kologarn: AND I WILL STAND IN IT.
Yogg-Saron: Seriously not necessary, K-Garn. I've got that whole thing under control. Check out the map. It says that's "The Shattered Walkway." It used to just be "The Walkway." Until I shattered it. No walkway, no progress. Pure effin' genius.
Kologarn: AND THAT IS WHERE I WILL SQUEEZE THE LIFE OUT OF THEM.
Yogg-Saron: No, dude. You don't need to go there at all. You can pretty much just take the week off. Maybe meet some ladies. I can't even remember the last time you hooked up.
Kologarn: NONE SHALL PASS.
Yogg-Saron: Well, that's the point of a huge ravine. So I don't really need your help.
Kologarn: I CAN CRUSH AN ARMORED TAUREN IN MY POWERFUL STONE GRIP.
Yogg-Saron: Yeah, but the tauren can't get over the ravine anyway. And it will be extra funny, because they could totally get over the ravine if they could use their flying mounts, but flying mounts are disabled in Ulduar. That will make them crazy. See, that's what I do.
Kologarn: WITH MY OVERHEAD SMASH, I CAN MAKE THE EARTH SHAKE. MY FOCUSED EYEBEAMS TURN MY VERY RAGE INTO LAZERS.
Yogg-Saron: Okay, I guess if you really want a crack at them. But it's fine with me if you just want to knock off. What's your hard mode?
Kologarn: HARD MODE?
Yogg-Saron: Can you, like, buff yourself to do double damage, or have twice as much health or something?
Kologarn: I AM VERY LARGE.
Yogg-Saron: Fair enough. Go hang out there. I guess, even if they beat you, I've still got my bases covered with the whole shattering-the-walkway plan.
Kologarn: YEAH. I DON'T SEE ANY WAY YOU'LL BE SORRY ABOUT THIS.

If bringing someone who hasn't been there before, make sure they are the first one to run into the boss room. Hilarity will ensue.

blizzard made the whole body, as u can see u are only fighting higher part.
u can jump down and kill ur self and find it out u wont lose a loot nothing loot from that boss

Just as a warning for those who have very very bad timing, like myself, there's a glitch with this boss. If you get gripped at the exact same time the right hand dies, you will still be taking the periodical damage as if you were still gripped. Since you have to wait till you're freed, and the arm is already dead, you are going to die. That is of course you have a healer willing to dedicate themselves to healing just you through the rest of the fight. The timing for this is nuts, but it happened my first time and I died real quick. So just a heads up to those who have a bad luck.

A tip for the kitty dps out there.. After you kill his arm and you have to shift your dps to the boss, you can run through him (where normally the bridge would be) so you are behind him and then you can use Shred and get back a little of the dps you're sacrificing by using mangle on the arms.
Make sure you only try to dps the boss himself, though. If you try to move to the side you will fall off the bridge and die, like I just did on our Kologarn attempt.

For 10-man, Crunch Armor expires quickly, so no taunt rotation and only one tank is required on the boss.
All damage-dealers, attack the Right Arm until it is destroyed. Destroying it damages the torso, and eventually kills the boss.
Killing an arm spawns a pack of Rubble earth elementals, which are picked up by a tank and killed immediately. In 25-man mode, the Rubble elementals have a point-blank AoE damage spell called Stone Nova which quickly kills any nearby characters that are not tanks. Keep away from the the Rubble and kill them with ranged AoE effects while melee attackers hit the body or the Left Arm. In 10-man mode, the Rubble can be dragged to the center and hit by melee attackers. Once all the Rubble are dead, attack either the Left Arm or the body, depending on the strategy. The Right Arm respawns 60 seconds after it is destroyed. When it respawns, all damage-dealers attack it again.
Killing an arm four times generally does enough damage to kill the boss. Raids may wish to kill the Right Arm four times, or kill the Right Arm three times, then kill the Left Arm once.
Kolgogarn regularly casts his Focused Eyebeams at a random member of the raid, generally preferring a character who is not at close melee range. The Eyebeams slowly follow the target, kicking up stone chips and inflicting massive damage on any character they touch. Targets of the Eye Beams should run to the back of the room, then out the door and down the stairs, until Kologarn stops casting the Eyebeams. Anyone in this path must get out of the way.
