Should be noted that they mind blast and knockback for about 2k rather frequently and sometimes one after the other, as well pull in groups of 2 or 3 so without proper CC they can knock you over pretty fast

As said above, if you get a few on you (which you often do, as they travel in groups), they can actually take you down surprisingly fast.

It should also be noted that regardless of whether or not you are in combat with them, if you are within range of the knock-back it will hit you...

As i found to my utter delight when - at 5% hp and mana - two horde ( im alliance ) decided that AoEing them 10 at a time just next to me would be quicker. *sigh*

And to any low DPS mana users...avoid this quest like the plague.. the mana burn is brutal. I really can't stress how brutal it is, i was getting burnt for 2k a pop, and theres also the mind blasts, for added fun.

To test the pain of the burn, i popped on healing gear ( protection paladin ) and decided to heal myself through 2 researchers to get some raw data...

I wound up in the Dalaran inn about 20 seconds ( and 4 Holy Lights ) later, completely out of mana, and rather lacking in health.

Make your own conclusions about these guys...( Mine shouldn't be used in polite company... )

Best level design ever: Put 6 mobs next to each other, so that aggroing one aggros them all via proximity. Give mobs an instant-cast pushback spell (with no cooldown). Make same pushback spell burn through 20% of a player's mana.

Result? The BEST place for caster's to kill mobs. It's certainly going to be the most memorable!

The OP spell has a 100 yard range and can only be broken by line of sight. Doesn't matter if you're behind them, it'll still hit you.

This was easily soloed as a holy priest.

I cast Mind Soothe before pulling on adjacent mobs, which often kept the groups to max 2. Soloing 3 mobs was also easy though, just SWP them all and stand against a wall.

I suspect this is even easier for a mage, as you can silence their mind blast and even polymorph one!

The mobs are in the main room at Aldur'thar, not outside.

Easily soloable - there are several mobs in single pulls or maybe 2 at a time around the edge of the room. Just take these and wait for them to respawn.

Just put your back to a wall to avoid the knockback and watch for patrols.

Pretty easy to solo as a hunter. Just keep Aspect of the Viper up to compensate for the mana drain, make judicious use of Misdirection (onto your pet), trapping and Feign Death, and bandage between each pull. I imagine it'd be pretty easy for a warrior, too, especially if you're protection, but low-DPS casters will probably have some trouble doing this by themselves.

Needless to say: It's ridiculously easy as a rogue. Just make sure to sap the closest one to the nearest (other) group, kill them 2 at a time while having your back facing a wall or so. Also watch out for patrolling groups, I killed these 1st.

Rogue here. Did the quest for these guys in about 90 seconds. Just kick them when they start casting.

there is a reason that the quest involving these guys is a group quest if u aggro more than 2 you are more than screwed if u have less than full health

Soloed as a healadin.

1) Shadow Resistence Aura... it shaved a good 10-20% of their damage. This was especially important against 3 mobs.

2) Judgement of Wisdom...I always use this while soloing.

3) Pop your Divine Plea and Divine Illumination sooner than later.

4) Don't be afraid to use your Lay on Hands if they drain you of your mana.

Took me about 10-15 minutes to complete the quest. Not bad. Little hairy at times, but if you go prepared you shouldn't have a problem.

As of Patch 3.0.8 they now drop Fur Lining: Arcane Resist wich formerly dropped from the Frostbrood Spawns at Sindragosa's Fall.

Since patch 3.0.8 they drop all of the Arcane Resistance recipies that Frostbrood Spawns used to drop.

Formula: Enchant Cloak - Superior Arcane Resistance
Recipe: Mighty Arcane Protection Potion
Pattern: Fur Lining - Arcane Resist

Easily the most annoying mob for an Enhancement Shaman. I have never wanted to strangle a NPC sooooo bad! I haven't died from them yet, but gotten really close several times. Stupid anti-mana bolts.

Question: Where the hell are they? I'm at the Aldur'thar Desolation Gate where Carbonite says they are supposed to be, but I cannot find any of these mobs. Can anyone help me out?

They are inside the building.

Did it solo as well as an Arms warrior. Pretty easy with whirlwind. Some of them can be pulled solo, just hide behind a corner.

All the Enchant Cloak - Superior Nnnnn resistance recipees seem to have a peculiar drop pattern, watch out if you want to farm them for reselling:

1: They will only drop to enchanters even though they are not BOP and can be sold on AH (for quite good money).
2: They will not drop for you when you have learned the enchant (i have looted +thousand Damned Aphotecaries and Cult Alchemists levelling pets and i got nature and frost resitance in about the first hundred, none after i learned it 1). The same may apply if you have in inventory
3 : Drop rate is about 1% (or chance to drop is 1:100, hope for lady luck but be prepared for the worst).Never tried Frostbrood though, probably better drop rate but worse to grind.

Prety easy to solo as a Death Knight. But evan easier if unholy. Make sure your pet holds one of them and use Anti-Magic Zone or Anti-Magic Shell.

Stupidly annoying mob, even as a class with no mana. They knock you back into other groups of Researchers, so you have about 6 on you and their Mind Blast hits HARD. I would suggest when fighting these mobs to avoid having more than 3 on you at any time.

i cant stand these mobs on my druid, shaman, mage, or warlock... it is almost impossible for me on my warlock because somehow my felguard aggros a minimum of 5 at a time and within 10 seconds i cant do anything

These guys can be a pain. They hit pretty tough for an 80 mob, and their knockback means that you could potentially aggro another 3 of them.

Yep, ridiculously annoying for a hunter as well. Instant-cast long-range AoE that drains mana? Check. Pulled in groups of 3+? Check. They've got my vote for "Most Annoying Mobs I've Run Into In A Long Time".
