They didnt need to add a reward to the end of this questline, the quest itself was a reward. This should go down as EASILY one of the most memorable quests in Wrath-- if not the whole history of the game.

This quest is very very good. The hole chain dont need any reward in the end, the quest itself is more then enouf. very nice work Blizzard. It really made me think on my dead grandpap :( he died in the war...

For those of us without epic flight, there IS a flight path within decent reach of him, if you've been doing Brann Bronzebeard's quest strings. Its in the Storm Peaks, manned by Earthen, close to Narvir's Cradle.

It appears that this is a tribute to a real life person. In the WLK manual ( /Data/enUS/Documentation/Manual_WLK.pdf ) there is a Bradford C. Bridenbecker R.I.P. 6.18.2007 listed in the special thanks (Page 16, 2nd column).
He had been a City Manager for La Habra (a city very close to Blizz's offices in Irvine)
From Assemblyman Michael D. Duvall
On June 21st, 2007, I requested that the California State Assembly adjourn in the memory of La Habra City Manager Brad C. Bridenbecker, who passed away on Monday, June 18th after a long battle with cancer. He was just 35 years young.
Brad grew up in Orange County, attended college at Cal Poly Pomona and grad school at USC. He started with the City of La Habra back in 1994 as a part-time intern and was steadily promoted through the ranks until his appointment as City Manager on June 16, 2002.
A number of significant projects in La Habra were completed under his leadership, including: Westbridge Plaza, Costco, La Bonita Park Phases 1 and 2, and the reconstruction of La Habra Boulevard.
Brad was diagnosed with cancer shortly after being appointed City Manager and worked continuously until taking a leave of absence in April of 2006.
Brad was a bright, capable and dedicated public servant, and wholeheartedly a family man. He loved being a dad and spending time with his wife, Beth, and two daughters, Victoria and Katie.
He will be sorely missed.
The name likeness is simply too close. Perhaps a bit of commentary on Blizzard's part that cancer is a real life "Plague" that claims even the greatest of people.

This makes me so sad. It's clear to me that the writer of this quest chain wanted SO badly to be able to do SOMETHING to save the RL version of this character, but it was just hopeless. Nothing could be done for the poor soul, and his dear friends and family could only watch and wait and pray. Then, in the end, things didn't turn out for the best. The plague killed him.

I feel kinda bad for this guy. He's just lying here dying, and the Argent Crusade is going to be building a freaking coliseum just a couple hundred yards away.

He's going to turn into a mindless undead? If the scourge had their eyes on him specifically to make him a Death Knight maybe i would see the point to this quest chain. But mindless?
There are over nine thousand mindless undead in the Valley below! Couldn't Tirion just dispatched an Argent Healer? If anything salute him and then honorably cut his head off .

It's very sweet that this NPC is (or damn well seems to be) dedicated to someone, and the overall quest line is very memorable and one of the best in the game... but a lot of his personal quest text has some pretty blaring grammatical issues, and I can't for the life of me figure why Blizzard let them slip through for so long. They sort of spoil an otherwise amazing quest chain :(

Decent questline... but the right choice of music can make all the difference. Perhaps, Anxious Heart, from the Final Fantasy 7 soundtrack would be my best candidate for an ode to this noble Crusader.

Blizzard seems to have a history of putting memorials in for players, employees, or friends. So far I've found seven (feel free to point it out if you spot one I've missed).
Crusader Bridenbrad
the Argent Crusader dying of the plague in Icecrown appears to be based off of a real person, Bradford C. Bridenbecker, who died of cancer in 2007. He is involved in a medium-long questline starting with
A Tale of Valor
, given to you by Tirion Fordring after you've unlocked the Crusaders' Pinnacle. It is speculated that he may be related to a Blizzard programmer.
Ahab Wheathoof
and his dog
Kyle
are the creation of Ezra Chatterton, a young player with cancer who got to spend a day at Blizzard headquarters thanks to the Make A Wish Foundation. He got to create these two NPCs, voice Ahab, and create the quest
Kyle's Gone Missing!
to go with them, among other things. He passed away in October of 2008 when his tumor, which had been in remission, came back. His main character, Ephoenix, can sometimes (very
very
rarely) still be seen online on the Norgannon server when his father logs on.
Caylee Dak
and her pet
Dusky
in Shattrath City (on Aldor Rise and belonging to the Darnassus faction) was the character of Dak Krause, who passed away from leukemia on August 22, 2007. She ends the quest
Alicia's Poem
.
In Hillsbrad there is
Rousch
, the character of Anthony Ray Stark (yes, real name) who passed away in 2005 in a scuba accident. He has no quest, but he stands in front of a grave marker and will /kneel and /salute it from time to time. He is friendly to both factions.
Koiter
is a slightly more complicated memorial. While NPC Koiter uses the Spirit Healer model, behind him is a memorial in a small subzone called the Shrine of the Fallen Warrior in the northern Barrens. Atop the structure is an orc that is a copy of Michel Koiter's character from the WoW beta. He died in 2004 of unknown causes.
Captain Armando O s s e x
is a member of the Stormpike Guard in Alterac Mountains. He is apparently a memorial to a deceased player who loved playing AV, but information other than this is scarce. I was unable to find a date of death or whether the patrolling character was a clone of his or not.
Again in Hillsbrad is a
Decorated Headstone
dedicated to Jesse Morales, a Blizzard employee who passed away while WoW was still under development. There was no other information.

New information from the Interviews for 5 years of WoW:
Chris Metzen's segment:
"My favorite personal moment, in terms of just playing the games, has to be a quest line that we constructed in Northrend and unrelated to the main story. It involved an Argent Crusader who had contracted the plague, the scourge, and he was dying and the heroes wanted to see if they could save this man who was so noble and had served with such distinction. The quest line was actually originally based on one of our buddies here Rob Bridenbecker had his brother pass away, his brother Bradley from cancer. And we wanted to do something for Rob and just honor his brother and just rally around the family a little bit. So Alex Afrasiabi and I came up with this story line that would have players go and interact with the great world powers: The Red Dragonflight, the druids, and the angelic Naaru of Outland. And one by one, as the player went to these people and asked for help to save this noble soul it becomes clear that death will be inevitable. But the nobility that “Bridenbrad” exhibited really spoke to us and even in the face of all this darkness and the Scourge within this fiction, the nobility of the human spirit is very, very powerful and I love that the quest line felt so emotional, especially the point where Bridenbrad is going out, there is no saving this man, and the way that Alex handled the end of the sequence where the Naaru come down and, essentially, beam him up and whisk him away to some unseen paradise was very satisfying to me from a story angle and from a personal angle. I talked to Rob Bridenbecker about it after the fact and he was really touched and he even showed his dad, his family and maybe it even helped a little bit in their grief...this goofy, video game thing... It was just such a great moment for me fictionally and, more importantly, personally... that sometimes this clumsy craft of making video games and things can sing beyond the game itself, beyond the gameplay itself and really touch people and I get a huge kick out of that."
Rob Bridenbecker (Brad's brother):
"I was thinking a little bit about the personal moments and the storyline in the Warcraft universe has been something that’s been really captivating, whether it’s the Illidan quest line... like, Warcraft III for me was just awesome and my brother was a really big Warcraft fan and... when he was 31 he was diagnosed with cancer. He, basically, he would sit at home and he’d be doing his thing, but then he’d play WoW when it first came out and he’d always be bugging me, you I was always a little too busy at work, but he would play WoW and he’s like: “Hey, have you checked out this?” and he would just geek up on everything WoW related. And he had a couple kids and he enjoyed sitting down and playing with them as well. When he died...I guess it was about two years ago...I remember I was sitting out by my pool and I banged off a quick email to the guys on Team 2 just basically said “Hey, the storyline in the Warcraft universe has always been awesome, is there any way we can maybe do something for my brother?” It was kind of crazy, Metzen got wind of it and he had gone to my brother’s funeral with me, which I thought was awesome, and he wrote back and said “Well, we can approach this a couple of different ways... we can make him part of the main story line for Lich King or we could do a really epic quest.” And he found this way, actually I forget who did the writing behind it, I know that Metzen really gave a lot of direction because I remember the e-mail where he, basically, described the quest line and his vision for the quest line. It was wild because he was able to take my brother’s struggle for about 4 or 5 years and represent it in this fantasy universe. And just reading it...just going through and actually reading what Metzen had paraphrased of what had gone on was pretty amazing. And then I sat down and I shared it with my Dad... and my Dad, he didn’t really...he didn’t know how to react. He was obviously moved by it. But he’s not Mr. Emotional Dude. So the first time that I saw the storyline in game... my hat goes off to the creative department here, the writing abilities and the guys on Team 2... and what’s wild is I actually had the crew here put together the DVD montage of that storyline and I gave that to my parents...and my Mom, she kind of refuses to watch it, just because it’s too much for her, I think. My Dad, I guess he snuck out with a little portable DVD player and he had to watch it in private in a car. And I ended up taking a copy of it as well...and buried that along with some of his personal belongings up in the Arctic Circle... So I would say that, without question, one of the most personal moments for me is that Bridenbrad quest line. Every once in a while I Google the quest line and there’s dudes who are like, you know they are actually checking out the lore behind the various quest lines that are out there. And I Google Bridenbrad and it’s actually kind of cool because there are these guys who are like” Oh my God, this quest line is awesome! and they don’t get it, but then some other people, I guess the guys on the RP servers fully geek out on it and they are like “Hey, I was rooting through the manual and there’s a line in the manual that’s talking about how... I basically did a dedication in the manual for Brad and then they Google his name and they found out that he had died and basically they put two and two together. They go through and they review the kind of cancer that he had and it’s just kind of crazy because is sort of a way to immortalize him...I don’t know it was...it was good stuff. I mean, I guess, on the lighter side of things, that’s just cool. I’ve gotten some his friends that have e-mailed me that play WoW and they’re just like: “Dude, that was epic. That was a thing you needed to do for Brad."
I can't believe they buried his belongings in the Arctic Circle. That's just awesome.

This is about Brad Bridenbecker who did indeed have cancer. His brother, Rob Bridenbecker the VP of online technologies, after discovering his death emailed team 2 and requested a chain in his brother's memorial. Chris Metzen, senior vice president, then responded saying we can do this multiple ways; either a part of the major lich king chain or a separate epic chain.
Metzen and team 2 then wrote a chain of quests that really represented Brad's life for the past 5 years. They then sent the ideas to Rob who shared it with his father. His dad didn't know how to react because he wasn't a very emotional man. They later made a dvd version of the quest for Rob who sent it to his parents. His mom couldn't watch it because "it's too much for her", however, his dad snuck out to his car with a dvd player and watched it.

This Questline Involving Bridenbrad Was Created As A Sort Of Tribute To Rob Bridenbecker, One Of Blizzard's Designers And Such, Who's Brother Had Passed Away. His Brother Was First Diagnosed With Cancer But He Managed To Fight It For A Few Years, But Eventually He Passed Away. Rob Sent An Email Out To Chris Metzen About His Brother, Asking If They Could Include Some Epic Story Relating To What Happened To Him. So Blizzard Designed This Storyline Which Is Much Like The Actual Pain Of Dealing With Cancer And...Well Knowing That You Will Most Likely Die Soon. This Is Pretty Amazing And Touching For Rob Just The Meaning That They Honored His Brother In This Game.

I hadn't gotten to this yet in game, but a friend just linked the video of Rob's interview to me. As a cancer survivor, I find the quest line very touching. I only wish they had a title and tabard for survivors as a reward. Still, I can't wait to do this quest line now. I nearly died at 18 because of Hodgekin's Lymphoma. So I can quite relate to the struggle Brad and his family went through.

I have done this questline with two of my characters now, and it still makes me cry. I have sometimes thought it would be nice to be able to buy the ring in real life (similar design, choice of gems) and dedicate the proceeds to cancer research Now that would be a tribute to the real Crusader Bridenbrad.

This is certainly one of the best quest chains in game.
This quest, along with the Tirion Fordring "look what they did to my boy" and the Sully Baloo letter were the last three things I did before I took my "brb at The Cataclysm" break. Simply because they were so epic and memorable.
I'm far to manly to admit I had a little cry.
