Actually if you have done any pvp prebc or lv60 and obtained grand marshal gear that is what he is wearing for warriors, and it suits the king well imo although his weapons due need an upgrade.

Based on the history of King Wrynn, we can expect a much more aggressive Stormwind. He's already declared open war on the Horde (WARNING: SPOILERS), despite Jaina's protests.

On the other hand, you can expect the alliance between the humans and night elves to become stronger due to Wrynn's relationship with Broll Bearmantle.

this guy sucks, i remember thinking "wow-wee! SW has a real king now(no disrespect for Bolvar)! but while he looks cool, why did he have to undo everything Jaina, Thrall, and everyone else have worked for, by declaring another ally/horde war. the alliance and horde don't need another enemy when they already have demons and zombies clawing at their necks.
If anything, they could both maintain their tenuous cold war for a few more years until the Arch Warchief of Theramore/Org could take over.

Pulled him as a T6 Protection Paladin. MH hits for ~6500 and OH for ~3500 before blocks. He can crush. He has a Whirlwind that hits for his MH damage, and also a Heroic Leap that he uses if your MT moves away too quickly.

Blizz actively refers to Varian as the Anti-Thrall so I'm going to have to say Varian.

By "Anti-Thrall" I think they mean that he's more of an opposite to Thrall in terms of personality, politics and such. Varian seems to be eager to pick a fight with people - especially the Horde - whereas Thrall has spent a sizeable chunk of his time since the Third War ended trying to establish peaceful relationships with the Alliance.

Each is a bad-ass in his own way, and it's great that the Alliance have another strong leader now alongside Tyrande and Velen rather than a figurehead ruler being manipulated behind the scenes by dark forces.

Downed 23/10/08 on Stormscale EU by nam, Paragon, Unskilled and Afraid, Insert Coin, and other randoms. Took 40 people.

Our tacs:

Charge into Stormwind, and head for the king. Run straight into the cathedral he's in, trying to ignore the guards. Head into the room on your right (The King's left), and wipe in there. All run back, ress at the same time, buff and heal up. Have a Hunter misdirect the king to the maintank, who should stand in a corner, nearest the door, to LOS Alliance Mages/Warlocks, etc. The new BG (Strand of the Ancients) battlemaster gets involved too. She's a level 80 elite. We offtanked her, and killed her first. The best dps in this fight is a Hunter, so bring a few. Casters do really bad dps on the boss, so have them focus the Alliance/guards instead.

We had an insanely good geared raid, so he went down in 10 mins. We just made a portal, and got out of there fast. Not too hard if you stick to these tacs. :)

Downed on 27/10/08 on Laughing Skull EU by one 40-man raid, including serveral guilds and some random people.

We had alts logged out in the deeprun tram, and summoned everyone there. After we got everyone there, we buffed up and ran into the keep. We had 3 T6-geared tanks who started to pull the royal guards 2 and 2 while we nuked them down. After that we had our druid tank pull Varian into the room directly on our left. He started tanking the boss in the northwest corner of the room, while the raid spreaded out evenly in the southwest and the southeast corners. The hunters and the melee started bringing him down, while we had two groups of caster-dps who were to focus on allys entering the room. All the shamans spam-used grounding totems to prevent the maintank from getting cycloned.
It took us a good 20minutes before we got him down, but it was totaly worth it. Awesome to see so many players work together. Geep up the good work Laughing Skull :D

Better turn down the graphics.

But in all honesty i think blizz needs to redo his face because even though he was captured a probably beaten it doesn't mean that he doesn't receive all the luxuries that a king deserves.
However, the armor is great, it shows that he doesn't wear armor just for show.

This guy is very powerful. I was watching him while Stormwind Harbor was under attack and he did a Heroic Leap ability, whirlwind, and saw him 2 shotting things with 34k hp. Don't mess with him :P

Horde, but in special the forsaken kills farmes, kirin tor mages and soon.. several of the forsaken's citizesn fled of the "reat" dark lady.. you really should study a little more before saying that varian just want to pick a fight.. btw it's NOT just about bolvar, when he saw all the things the forsaken (so we can put the horde here too.) was doing with captured alliance members (farmers..) making those bio-weapon.. testing things on them..

Just a little note of interest: King Varian Wrynn is the only warrior in the game to retain the Heroic Leap ability, after it was withdrawn from the playerbase in WotLK Beta, for being too unbalanced.

As Alliance I'm not sure whether he uses the Leap in raids against him, but he was Heroic Leaping all over the joint during the Scourge attacks on Stormwind in "Echoes of Doom".

Also....I really don't like him. Dual wielding Quel'Serrar (I never got one, let alone two >.<) + Bloodelf/Dragonball Z hairdo = trying far too hard. Bolvar had class.

i came back to the game when the wotlk was released after a one year break, i toured SW for like 30 minutes looking for Bolvar and i found Varian in his place (i bought the game a week after the expansion so he was in the keep)

i hated him, i only acknowledged Bolvar as my leader. then he almost b.... slapped thrall if it wasn't for that b.... jaina, at that point i had a true and utter respect for him.

P.S "hair style changed to look like Bolvar, in his memory. Rest in Peace Hero"

Dunno, i would say he isn't as powerful as bolvar was. 20 70's would have a hard time with bolvar in his 2.4 form.

Bolvar had shield wall, healed himself to full all the time, 5 second aoe stun, like. Bolvar was alot harder than he is.

Personally, I'm glad Varian is so quick to crack skulls. Since forever and a day, the 'good guys' (I know this technically isn't correct but bear with me) have always been about peace and dignity and such. I'm glad we have a ruler that wants to kick ass.

Well, you're half right. The 'good guys' are about peace and dignity. Welcome to the Horde. Pay your respects to ~~the Warchief~~ Vol'jin and Baine. Oh, what? Just because he's Human, you thought Wrynn was the "good guy"? Hence the half-right part. The good guys are about that. But your ruler isn't one of them. All the more proof of just how racist you Allies really are. When it really comes down to it, the only races that aren't racist toward the others are the ~~Orcs~~, Trolls and Tauren. Hm. ~~All~~ Horde. Go figure.

edit: I was looking at posts I'd made and found this one. I'd like to point out that despite -1 total, the votes are pretty well split of +8,-9. I don't know when the votes happened, but this was entirely true when posted it, which was pre-Garrosh Warchief. I've since edited to account for Garrosh's horrid treatment and segregation of the other races. I would also assume the negative votes were from Ally-only players who didn't like the truth. Racism plays a big part in this game. Look at the Durnholde 5-man in Caverns of Time. Look at the history of the worlds in-game. Most people hate gnomes, Elves (both sides) think they're above everyone else, Humans hate any of the animalistic looking races and really only get along with Dwarves if anything. Everyone pretty much fears/is disgusted by the Forsaken/Undead, the Forsaken hate anything "alive", and humans hated the Worgen until they themselves became them. And even then you have people killing themselves before becoming turned into one. Varian, for a long time, has been a shining example of the racism and elitist imperialism that defines the "humans" of WoW.

Downed today on Laughing Skull (EU), pretty simple full Naxx 25 Druid tank, and many shammies spamming chain heal to keep the raid up. The allies were fended off by 5 Mages on the doors and others around the vicinity taking out stragglers.

I've done the attack on the under city quest and I think he's in the right place. just what good has this "peace" done for the allince? nothing but the lose of a hero and many soldiers dead from the horde. ya I know "but they were rebels they weren't part of the forsaken they we're bla bla bla bla" if you ask me I think sylvanas (and maby thrall) were all in on it and i'll fight side to side with the king til the end is near and my vanish is finished cooling down...

I think that the king is more then right with declaring war to the horde if you have watched the Ulduar Trailer you will most likely see the reason why. He blames the horde for the death of Highlord Bolvar and many other alliance soliders, so if you watch all this carefully this actualy IS the fault of the horde and he is just doing the right thing.

I was seriously disappointed as the Varian did not receive Own Voice as Faction leader. He currentilty has normal human voice, but I hope it will be changed as it was in trailer heard. He's swords also changed to match those that were in Ulduar Trailer.

And for you, Itsnotvsmyay, Varian angers to horde, as you can hear from Wrathgate cinematic and questline, because of Saurfang, Bolvar dies, and so he dishonors the acts of them, and so toughts that it is Thralls fault.

For those of you who are all, "Hey, Varian's right about hating the Horde!", I think you should watch the Wrathgate cinematic again.

In no way was that the Horde's fault. A bunch of traitorous little Forsaken $%^&*es came and blasted everyone with the Forsaken Blight. Varian's just sticking the blame on the Horde, for no other reason then he hates them for destroying his kingdom (not sure why he couldn't just yell at them for that), and that they're the easiest to blame, due to the stereotype that they're all bloodthirsty beasts.

If someone can tell me exactly HOW Putress and his pals deciding to join up with Varimathras is the Horde's fault, I'll gladly see the errors of my ways. However, I highly doubt that will be happening, as I see absolutely no way how all this is the Horde's fault.

I don't know why Zaelan's post was downrated so much, since he's absolutely right. The attack by Putress on the forces at Angrathar was not orchestrated by the Horde or its leadership. Like Zaelan said, there's absolutely no proof of that. The simple fact of the matter is that Putress acted on his own, with his own group of renegade Forsaken that defied Sylvanas and the rest of the Horde. That's the conclusion I've reached given the evidence that we do have at our disposal right now.

But let's assume Sylvanas did plot the whole event at Angrathar. First of all, look at the victims of Putress' attack. The victims included a substantial number of Horde soldiers, most of whom were from the elite Kor'kron forces that serve as the personal guard of Thrall himself. And then there's Saurfang the Younger, son of High Overlord Saurfang and the most prolific victim on the Horde side. If the Horde discovers that Sylvanas is indeed the mastermind behind their deaths, then she stands a great risk to not only destroy the partnership between her Forsaken and the Horde, but to incur the personal wrath of the Warchief. She would not stand a chance in the subsequent battle.

Secondly, what would she stand to gain by giving Varimathras carte blanche to allow demons to run rampant through her main base of operations? Back in the Third War, she and her Forsaken fought hard to gain control of the city of Lordaeron. Thus to relinquish control of it to the Burning Legion doesn't make sense considering the bulk of her resources are at the Undercity. And yes, the Forsaken have bases in Northrend and Tarren Mill, but let's be honest here; without their foothold in Lordaeron, they will lose a lot more territory than they can afford to in the long run.

Bigalmou, while your view on what happened may very well be the one that Varian Wrynn himself sees, it just doesn't amount to anything more than a wild conspiracy theory cooked up by an Alliance partisan. But in the spirit of fairness, I'd like to add one last point; Sylvanas, from what we know about her, is a reclusive but brilliant strategist. Her primary goal is to get revenge on Arthas, but once that's achieved, who knows where she'll go from there? If she is indeed behind the massacre at Angrathar, then she's hiding her involvement in it (and her motives for it) very, very well. But for now? Occam's Razor, my friend.

In the World of Warcraft comic (issue #13), Jaina Proudmoore gave the two Varians a pair of magic elven blades called Shalla'tor ("Shadow Render") and Ellemayne ("Reaver").

When Onyxia fused them back into one Varian (in issue #14), those swords were combined to create a single, more powerful weapon called Shalamayne.

1. An Orc befriended his father, and then assassinated him.
Profiling. Yes an orc betrayed his father. So what? It could have been anyone.

2. The Orcs held him against his will, and forced him to kill for their amusement. Don't say it wasn't Thrall's fault, because Wrynn was trained as a Gladiator in Org. That means the Horde leadership is well aware of a thriving slavery trade, and openly permissive of it.

Wait.... didn't Thrall get the same EXACT treatment? At least have the respect for Thrall because he went through the exact same thing that you did. Oh wait ... he was RAISED as a gladiator, having no real childhood whatsoever... and the only thing he knew of his people was this old broken down old orc that he didn't even know jumping from his shakles and attacking his guards dying only to try to give freedom to the future Warchief. I'm sure Varion had a bad childhood living in a capital city during a decade of Alliance dominance.

3. Doesn't matter if it was a coup, or a splinter group, The Horde killed his best friend.
wasn't the coup you refer to staged by... a demon? a Burning legion deamon that... made the lich king?Oh wait but he doesn't care about a race older than the night elves that feed off of life itself, that have manipulated entire worlds. Hello King Varian Big Chin Dumbass... dark portal.. go over there... ask a Dranei what happened. Burning legion manipulated an entire world that brought uppon it's own end. Hint hint dumbass hint hint.

4. The Orcs destroyed Stormwind, and forced Wrynn to retreat to lordaeron where he grew up. Lordaeron was like a second home to him, and even though he knew Arthas destroyed it, he hadn't seen it in person until he led the Attack there that killed Putress. Seeing Lordaeron transformed into the Undercity was shocking, and offensive, and from a Lore-wise perspective, it was the first time anyone from the Alliance had ever seen how much the city has changed. Imagine your home town being run by the same evil zombies that killed your best friend. And don't argue that the Forsaken aren't evil, I've done the Tarren Mill quests. Human experimentation, and torturing animals seems pretty evil to me.

Orcs destroyed Stormwind. It's called a war. Deal with it. And do i need to remind you the way the orcs were treated after their initial attack of Azeroth? Slave camps, forced to hide into the mountains. Defeating your enemy is one thing but what the so called alliance did was in fact... hitleristic. So... alliance lost a city, the orcs almost lost their race. Yea clearly a fair trade.

Fact is right now two characters are really really stupidly done in warcraft lore. King Varian ... who if you have read the comic, is initially a calm calculated warrior and doesn't hate the Horde (talking about Logosh). He understands his situation and deals the best he can with it. On the other side of the Varian is the Varian that returned to Stormwind. The fun Varian if you will. Strange but when the two merged they turned into this bumbling brute that resembles the other stupidly done character in WoW... Garrosh Hellscream.

Garrosh is an orc that never touched demon blood. Acording to lore orcs were shamans and a peacefull race before the blood drinking. He is acting just like Grom did. At least Grom had the decency to obey the warchief despite not understanding the methods. (he only disobeyed after drinking blood the second time). Also Garrosh was a crying little @#$%^ when you first meet him. Fearing that he will end up like his father. He sees that his father managed to atone for part of his mistakes and turns into a carbon coppy of him? Hello years of fears and self doubt don't go away in an instant.

It's fun to see that the only two characters that apparently don't like or trust the other faction are the only two that don't make sense.

I don't think the World PvP Bosses hit hard enough... I tanked Thrall as a 79 Mage. I see this King here only hit a Tank for about 3k Damage, which is nothing when you have 10 healers and 40k health. The AB Battlemaster is more of a Threat, and if there's anyone that needs Damage increased its Undercity's boss Windrunner.

I can see both sides of the argument. But remember it, we're watching it third person, we know all that happens and he's watching it from his view.

Here's his view.

One: Orcs enslaved him and forced him to kill for their own money and amusement.

Two: Best friend killed by what he thinks was Horde, of course it wasn't the Forsaken solely that did it they were traitors so it isn't completely the Horde's fault.

Three: What happened to Lordaeron. Varian is obviously not happy about what happened to his former second home. Seeing what the Undead did to it.

Four: Ulduar trailer. I thought Varian AND Garrosh were immature children. Let's start with the start of it. Garrosh says "I want to see this Dwarf, to see the fear in his eyes" kind of implying he'll start a fight. But once they enter Varian arrogantly says "What are THEY doing here?" like two girls mad at each other at a party. Of course he has a right to be on guard the way he arrogantly said it like that still stands. Garrosh of course could've arrogantly said why they were but instead he resorted to calling them "Alliance Pigs" Varian then provoked Garrosh to attack him, and shows how much he wants to fight him saying "He's mine!"

Varian from his point of view thinks what he's doing is right. My final conclusion? Varian and Garrosh are fools, Varian is letting his emotions get in the way of him being a king and leading his people. Garrosh is a reckless fool and we all know that there's someplace in Azeroth where the true bad asses go when they die and Grom is sitting there next to Lothar, Uther, Broxigar, Durotan and Orgim facepalming.

It should be noted that in the Ulduar trailer he is voiced by Chris Metzen, the same voice actor for Thrall, taken from Wowwiki.com, same as Saurfang the younger as well..

varian would kick garrosh's ass, garrosh is a pathetic excuse for a son of hellscream only reason he had the upperhand was because varian in dalaran d idn't expect them and so he brought one sword if he brought two he would &*!@ garrosh up, plus varian has more hp then him and does more damag garrosh damage can be full blocked did so on a raid test there which was successful.

As of patch 3.2, Varian speaks when clicked on. He is voiced by Chris Metzen, and most of his lines are either quotes from (or references to) the WoW comic book.

Varian atleast has some justification to hate the Horde. Imagine, you're living in a city, and a race of bloodthirsty monsters begin in an act of genocide against your race. As you fight back, you find one Orc who actually seems like a good person. The one orc who seems to not be a killer of children and innocent civilians... kills your father.
Personally, I'm not even sure why the Horde hates the Alliance. Sure, they put them in prison camps, but you know what the Orcs did? They tried to exterminate Humanity, and probably Dwarves too. They should have been glad they weren't paid back in kind.

As of patch 3.2 the king now has his own voice. To be honest i think he sounds too nice, he should sound like the orcslaying gladiator he really is. Some anger in the voice wouldn't hurt.

I agree with whoever said the Alliance side should have gotten his armor. It is named after him, so why not give Alliance warriors gear that looks like his? Sounds like a brilliant idea.

Also, maybe its just me, but I would probaly follow King Varian into battle

The sheer size of his chin is outstanding. He's not that bad at fighting either. A raid tried to take him down today, and they got chintercepted. Plus, he looks as if he could block Saurfang's axe with that thing.

Sadly he's actually one of the weaker Alliance bosses (Thrall it's so hot either sadly). Bolvar was a stronger boss. Sucks the "Main" boss from both factions is weaker campared to most of the other ones.

His whirlwind can hit for a good amount, but you can heal through it easy. And that's all he does, is the whirlwind after the initial Heroic Leap (Which is amusing to see him do).

Apparently, Varian saves Saurfang's life in Icecrown Citadel, and allows him to take the body of his son.

it appears varian is softening up abit in icecrown, where he says "stand down muradin let a grieving father pass" then muradin refuses to lets saurfang pass to see the body of the deathbringer(saurfang jr.) after you have defeated him as ally. and you also see saurfang cry then you kill saurfang jr. as horde.

Kinda funny see that he is like swapping between loads of weapons.
First off he had:
Dual wielding Cruel Barb
Then he had after some patch:
Dual Wield Quel'Serrar (Unique wep Thou)
Then When 3.1 arrived he got new weapons. There is no other swords like his but the most fun with it is, When he is in Stormwind he got Two of the same swords, But! in the Ulduar Cinematic he only got One, Two-handed Sword.
So, what's next? he will learn Titans Grip and Dualwield Shadowmourne or what?

It seems that our Little Varian is becoming a better leader than most would have thought he actually is learning to control himself observe i read this from the spoiler page in wowhead. its what happens when alliance kill Saurfangs son in the icecrown citadel raid

I am slightly confused however, the resemblance is similar to the book, BUT his weapons are incorrect. Varian Wrynn uses two swords by the name of "Shalla'tor" derried from Darnassian for "Shadow render" and Ellemayne "Reaver". He is duel-wielding Shalla'tor, the true weapon of his gladiator nature. He should be wielding Ellemayne, which is a blue glowing blade with a shorter spiked hilt, from his royal and heroic nature.

Edit, I had forgotten, in due time Onyxia had returned Varian to his original king state, and restoring his weapon to it's full state, however, the shape of Varian's weapons are still somewhat incorrect and do not resemble from the story.

He has so many guards it isn't even funny. It's almost cheating how they are walking around other places until he's attacked. At least Thrall's guards stay put in 1 room so you know where they are and expect it instead them pooping out of nowhere.

So he went to the warrior trainer for a respec during the patch! Fury to Arms, better imo. But in combat he still hits as if he has an offhand and doesnt use the 2h human animation, blizz take the OH away with out tuning for the use of just one 2h

His location is in Stormwind Keep at 79.9,38.5...or right in the middle of the keep if you don't have coordinates.

The worst design about this is there are multiple quests that turn in to him with no alternative, meaning if a horde raid has killed Varian recently, then they'll have to wait about 6 hours for the respawn, including the lv59 deathknights who just want to keep playing their class but are now forced to wait.
