130k hit points, hit me in 2000 armor for about 5700 damage (non crit), but Entangling Roots worked just fine. He has a fear that has about the same range as roots that does about 500 damage per tick, but some very careful management should make him soloable for druids.

Kreug can be solo'd by a 73 Death Knight, probably of any spec.
He does not seem to fear when fighting a single player in melee, but he does have a stun that he will use. Personally, I hit IBF immediately after the stun, followed by a blood tap. I kept my health up by using 3 death strikes / 20 seconds, through epidemic. Had no real trouble, even after a caster added on to me.

Took him down as a prot warrior with an elemental shaman in healing gear keeping me alive. I was at 73 and he was at 72.
Not bad for a level 74 five man quest. The thing that makes it possible is his ability to be stunned. With shockwave and concussion blow I kept him out of commission for half the fight. It took a long time of beating on him, though.

Can be Shackled. 6 Shackles = Shadowfiend/Hymn of Hope cooldown. Soloable as a poorly geared L76 Holy priest.

The way these poor giants shake and tremble uncontrollably makes me terribly sad, it's almost like watching them fight the Lich King's domination over their minds. Or like watching an old man with Parkinson's. Either way, I try to not watch their idle animations >.<

Must have been buffed or something. This guy hits for 3000 and attacks pretty fast, had trouble getting him down past 75% on my Blood DK, even with using all my cool downs. He just hits for too much.

I just solo'd this guy at lvl 73 as a retribution paladin after realising that he was not immune to not only turn evil and hammer of justice, but also repentence.
My strategy was not for the faint hearted. Open with HoJ, then use judgement and crusader strike. Sprint out, jump-shotting exorcism on the way out. It's easy if you don't have the talent Righteous Vengeance, because all you do then is repentence him, but if you do have this talent, you have to wait for the DoT to expire before you incapacitate him.
Took around 15 minutes, got 6k exp for the kill plus normal quest rewards.

Soloed as a 74 death knight specced into
Reaping
, kited him with chains of ice every 5 seconds and blood boils which turned blood runes into death runes allowing for the occasional icy touch for increased damage. Kited around a big tree stump near the hill, took about 10 minutes.

76 mage 1 manned. Arcane, use Slow and just lightly sprinkle him with fire blast and arcane barrage while walking around the logging camp. Be sure to clear the area before attempting, and use mana pots or nova/evoc when you go oom.

EDIT: about 2 minutes after i wrote this post, he dropped the sword (kill number 5)

edit: beware if your on a pvp realm and want to farm this guy, it is an extremely popular place for 80s to want to

Easily done by a ret pally.
1. Judgment of Command/Light
2. DPS for a second
3. Hammer of Justice/DPS/Judgment
4. Repentance (wait for cooldowns and get mana/heals)
5. Judgment of Command/Light
6. DPS/Stun
7. Repentance
The only cycle better than this is instant Turn Evil but that requires a glyph.

He
is
susceptible to slowing and snaring effects, and therefore soloable/ kitable. He does reset after a fairly short distance though, so you will have to kite him back & fourth, or in small circles. I would recommend kiting back and fourth to the East of him after you have cleared the few mobs there. Any mobs on the other side might get in the way and present a problem.
Completely soloable as a mage, frost mage especially. He hits hard, and doesn't have to be too close to melee you, so keep your distance.

Solo'd as a 75 Blood DK, remember to keep your diseases up and Improved Rune Tap is great in this situation. When you get on low HP pop Vampiric Blood and any pots/Death Strike/Rune Tap, anything that heals you. If you run out of options, he is not immune to Chains of Ice so start running until your cooldowns are up again.
Good luck :-)

Hmm... enchancement shamans beware. Thus far I've been able to solo all group quests in Borean and Howling, and most in TBC ; but this guy the "wolves and totems and game over" tactic won't work. He tends to get you in a stun, and no healing from the wolves can keep you up. Also as per above the frost shock tactic.
With a heavy heart I know must actually try and find a gr-- hmm.... gonna try Earthbind! brb
Yeah this aint happening at 73 as enhancement folks. The wolves healing just can't keep up with the smacks for 9k repeatedly :(

A tip for Death Knights and Rage users (warriors and bears) is to kill some trash mobs around the big guy to fill up your runic power / rage bar.

Easily kitable as a Frost Death Knight. Keep Chains of Ice constantly up and rotate between Icy Touch and Howling Blast. Use your Runic Power for Death Coil.
If worse comes to worst, blow your Blood Tap for a Chains of Ice escape.

Solod as a 72 Prot Paladin, gotta say it was hard work. Took me 4-5 attempts to get it right, running in wrath greens/blues and 16.7k hp with kings, fort+guru elixir+food.
Basically during most of the fight u will be slowly losing hp from the damage he's putting out faster than ur Seal/Judgement of Light can heal u. When he stuns you this will increase dramatically and those are the most dangerous times, I used human racial to break the first stun and bubbled the second, u can take a few without dying but if u get one on low hp ur done basically.
The first time ur down about 4k hp, Turn Evil, bandage, heal up and repeat whenever bandage is off cd. Sometimes u will get adds pulled from the turn evil although this can work in your favour. If you get adds, judge wisdom and let them build your mana while keeping boss feared.
Always keep up Divine Plea and Holy Shield+JoL/SoL. Apart from that its just a long fight, guess about 6-7mins.
Good luck ;)

Soloable as demonology warlock with all the felguard enhancing talents taken. Just dot him up real fast, run 45 yards away from the felguard and stay there spamming Blood Funnel, so you don't get feared. If you get feared the felguard most probably dies, and the initial dots are necessary so that you get the credit for the actual kill. Anyway tough fight, and boring as hell :).

This fight is EXTREAMLY simple if you got the patience as a retribution paladin.
Did it with my newly speced retribution paladin in holy gear, with a few retri pieces and some prot gear
Here is how it worked for me:
Start out with the usual shield and one-hander for soloing anything. Pop seal of light, blessing of might (i only used the because of my low attack power which didn't allow me to do enough damage) start out as normal and preform your normal rotation, spam
FoL
as soon as Art of War is up
DO NOT
use it on anything else, this will allow for maximum healing, as you are doing this, you will notice your taking ALOT of damage, but don't worry, don't use turn evil (it in my experience only made matters worse), use
Repentance
instead, notice how long you survive his beating, heal up and pop
Divine Plea
you should have plenty of mana (if not full) wait untill there is about how much beating you can handle (in my case, about 20 secs) left on your Rep and start attacking him, preferly opening with a Exorcism and a judgement of your choice, keep doing this when you need to heal and he should be a cake walk.
Took my paladin a total of 6 minutes to do it, and a couple of trys before useing rep instead of turn evil. Wasn't close to death at one point. Using wings before breaking a rep is also a good idea to do as much dmg as possible.

His title (Ymirjar Giant Lord) suggests that he may be one of Ymirjar or have some connection to vrykul. Ymirjar are vrykul who were deemed worthy by the Lich King and became his elite forces among vrykul.

Kreug Oathbreaker is susceptible to many kinds of effects, in particular for a protection warrior: stuns and disarms. Stun as frequently as you can (remembering to wait 15s in between stuns to allow diminishing returns to fall off,) keep thunder clap and demo shout up, keep disarm and shield block on cooldown, use shield slam to dispel his damage buff, hit shield wall, hit last stand + enraged regeneration at low health, and you'll probably win.

For those wondering, it is possible to solo this mob as a hunter, but it certainly isn't easy. The tactics are simple but the execution is difficult.
When I did this quest I was level 74, beastmaster spec and using a turtle. I tried at level 73 but never got him below 50% health; you get a new rank of mend pet at 74 and I think it's pretty vital. I also had decent gear for my level (dungeon blues).
I wasn't able to kite this mob; even with concussive shot up and running him through a frost trap, he'll run you down, and it only takes a few solid hits for him to kill you.
You also can't tank and spank him with a pet; he hits for about 2000 and will brutalise your pet when he puts his stun down.
But you
can
trap him with freezing trap. What I did was to get my turtle to tank him until my pet got low, and then used distracting shot to pull him over a freezing trap. I then used the 20 seconds to bandage up my pet and myself. The fight took about 5 minutes in total.
There are some things to watch out for. Don't let your pet go below about 40% health before trapping Kreug and healing up. When he throws down his 'backbreaker' stun he can knock off that amount of health in mere seconds. If that's combined with him fearing you (something I found to be unavoidable), then there's diddly squat you can do about it, and your pet will most likely die. So play it safe.
When trapping Kreug, his hitbox is
tiny
, despite his huge size (the hitbox is the same as a normal mob). This makes getting him to hit your trap a wee bit difficult. Take, for example, this scenario: you lay a trap, throw distracting shot, and then Kreug fears you. You will wander away from your trap, and Kreug will miss it, turning you into skeleton jelly in very short order.
Only distracting shot/trap shortly after his fear, so its on cooldown. Don't use bestial wrath for extra damage; you must save it for when breaking his fear is essential (mend pet runs out and you need to renew it, you need to reposition yourself over your trap).
Shell shield (the turtle special) and cower were indispensable for mitigating Kreug's brutal damage. I generally saved these cooldowns until Kreug used his stun or fear (after the stun wears off, popping shell shield or cower pretty much guarantees that your mend pet ability will outheal his damage, which helps to up your pet's health after the pounding he'll take during the stun).
Kreug is also stunnable; use intimidation wisely.
Kreug also casts a buff on himself, it increases his damage dealt by 10% and his attack speed by 30%. You must use tranq shot to get rid of it; if he combines this with his stun then the incoming damage can level your pet from 100% health to 0% in seconds. If he combines this with a stun and a fear, use bestial wrath to break your pet out of the stun and yourself out of the fear, so you can tranq shot his buff.
Don't underestimate the value of just letting Kreug stew in your freezing trap whilst waiting for your cooldowns to ready themselves again; managing your cooldowns is essential to killing this guy.
Anyhow I hope this helps any hunters aspiring to kill this guy. It's a fun, if somewhat frustrating, challenge!
