Does anyone know if he is important to warcraft lore at all? I just don't understand why he is the Stormwind boss because until WoW we've never even heard of him, he was just kind of thrown in.

MM killed him on the bugged ptr with item stat stacking, took 3 120k lightning bolts to kill him.

Could just be the ptr, but he most definately had more than 55k hp.

Found this in some old patchnotes listing the change of Stormwind leader for whatever reason..

1.41 Patchnotes:-

Archbishop Benedictus staged a temporary coup, and has taken the title of NPC leader of Stormwind City from Highlord Bolvar! Horde seeking to take out the leader of Stormwind should focus their efforts on Archbishop Benedictus for the duration. These changes will remain until the next content patch, when Highlord Bolvar reclaims his rightful throne:

Highlord Bolvar should be respawning between 5 and 8 minutes.
Archbishop Benedictus should be respawning every 2 hours.
Bolvar will give no contribution points.
Archbishop Benedictus will give 15,000 contribution points.

He is no longer a boss now. They recently changed him to a 60 elite, but he still has a ton of health.

Since they changed him from a boss to a level 60 elite, I've seen Horde hiding under the cathedral and farming him every respawn. He can easily be killed solo and his respawn timer is about 10 minutes. Good way for farming some easy gold if you have nothing else to do.

Don't forget, Jaina Proudmoore is tecnically a human boss, despite that fact that she can be 10-manned.

Archbishop Benedictus (formerly Jarl, surname unknown) is the leader if the Church of the Holy Light based out of Cathedral of Light in the city of Stormwind.

The current archbishop is a middle-aged man named Jarl, though following Church tradition he gave up his birth name when he was elected to this high position, and adopted a new, holy name.

In his youth, he was the younger son of a wealthy Lordaeron merchant, and was raised to join the family business. He found religion instead, discovering the Holy Light after meeting an old traveler one night and almost dying when a pack of mercenaries attacked them both. After recovering, Jarl petitioned to join the Church, and was accepted immediately. The kindly Jarl was the student of Lordaeron's religious leader, Archbishop Alonsus Faol. Jarl spent many years learning from his pious master. He rose quickly to the rank of senior priest, and had charge of a large town in Lordaeron when the Scourge appeared. Jarl did his best to evacuate his parishioners and then joined them in their flight to Azeroth. The Church settled him in a town there, but soon promoted him to Stormwind City instead. While there, he helped the Church of Light construct its most striking monument: the Cathedral of Light in Stormwind. He was being considered for promotion to bishop when Archbishop Faol died, and the council chose to elevate him to archbishop instead.The newly named Benedictus took charge of the Church and swore to continue the good work his mentor had begun so many years before.

That is basicly his whole history. He is a minor character, but I thought his backround was pretty interesting

The bosses are basically identically to players except they have massive amount of HP.

That being said, the bosses have different "true levels"

Here are the list of faction bosses:

Alliance:

Highlord Bolvar, aka I didn't see a giant dragon standing five feet away from me, Fordragon----at stormwind keep
Archbishop, aka I have a basement inviting any horde warlock to summon raid me, Benedictus------at stormwind cathedal

High Tinker, aka no nobody know I exist, Mekkar------at ironforge Tinkertown
Archdruid Faugon, need anger management, Staghelm------at top of Cenarion Conclave at darnassus
Priestess Tyrande, aka husband missing for ten thousand years, Whisperwind---at temple of moon at Darnasus
Lady Jaina, aka I love green (Thrall) more than blond (Arthas), Proudmoore----at top of the Theramore central keep

Horde:

That being said, i think the easiest boss to take down will in fact be Archbishop Benedictus. Since there is a basement right beside him which is perfect for horde's summon sneak attack. The archdruid, Tyrande and Jaina are all standing at pretty cramped places, so they are a bit harder.

Sylvanas and varimathas are standing together. Thrall and Vol'jin is standing together. But no raid is really stupid enough to take two bosses on at the same time. They will simply pull one out.

Again, all bosses are acting as players in term of damage, which means they can outlevel you by 10000 level, but you will still be able to hit them.

According to the World of Warcraft Strategy guide, all the bosses are in fact level 63 with exception of Bolvar, Varimathas and Tyrande. (Don't flame me if I remembered wrong.)

varimathas, level 100---probably why no one has tried to mess with him yet. As far as we know, he could have kicked Ragnaros' ass by himself if he tried.

Tyrande Wisperwind, level 75----sigh...poor darnassus, with max population of 5 people at peak hour. Though I did hear quite a few raid wipe from her by the starfall.

Highland Bolvar Fordragon, level 90---if you are alliance come to Stormwind three times a day and watch he kill 7 level 62 Onixya's elite guards by himself and have 80% health left. It has been confirmed by my own eye that he does indeed use divine shield...multiple times in a 10 minute. As far as I know, he is the only boss that will heal himself to full health.

The rest are the bits of information I had with how these bosses fight.

Alliance:

Highlord Bolvar Fordragon----A combination of warrior and paladin, divine shield + cleave + laying of hand? (heal himself to full, but didn't see his mana go down. I want his talent spec!) Summon stormwind guards.

Archbishop benedictus------so far i heard is that he bashes you with his staff and cast holy nova.

King Magni Bronzebeard-----Avatar from Warcraft III. Don't become immune to magic though.

High Tinker Mekkar------no fight heard

Archdruid Faugon Staghelm------been took down a few times, but I don't have any information on him.

Priestess Tyrande Whisperwind---only know she cast starfall sometimes. Summoning darnassus sentienal.

Lady Jaina Proudmoore----Massive AoE at very cramped tower and she will teleport your maintank outside theramore. (Imagining Jaina with a baseball bat and yell "Home Run!") Summoning theramore guard.

Horde:

Lady Sylvanas Windrunner----Shooting arrow with a lot of damage, melee with a sword and teleport around. Summon skeleton guards.

Majordomo Varimathas----no fight recorded

Warchief Thrall---Only saw him fight at distance from the alliance most wanted video. Summon Orgrimar grunts. (He is a platemailed shaman. i don't know whether he cast shocks or not)

Vol`jin-----no fight recorded

Highchieftain Cairne Bloodhoof---Same old Cairne from warcraft III. No rebirth though and the weapon is a giant totem instead of a halberd now.

killed him earlier on thunderhorn... very simple just have a warlock and 2 rogue run down the basement and summon rest of the raid.. killable with 20ppl if alliance players not there..

He's in the Cathedral of Light, northern part of Stormwind. He's just a loud holy priest with a shiny staff >.< the guy's easier than the ZG troll priests. Anyways, he does have an irritating holy nova ability and I think he uses smite too.

This Fight is Relative easy on lvl 70.
Can be 4 manned.
Just pull him down into basement.

He uses:

Smite
Does around 1000 damage on tank.

Holy Nova
This isnt really strong, just make sure to separate healers from him so eveyr1 not get hurt by this. Since its just wasting mana.

Power Word: Shield
This annoying shield seems to have 0 sec CD and absorbs a averenge amount of damage. Bring a shammy to purge this whenever its up. Really helps.

Ofc if u raid him no tactic is required, he is to easy. just kill him xD

And oh, like all boss fights. Guards will spawn. Dont bother killing them, but keep an eye on them so they dont go on healers.

to clear everything up about his level i will explain it in a noticable way:

ALL RAID BOSSES HAVE SET DAMAGE AND HEALTH BUT ARE LEVEL ? TO PLAYERS TO BALANCE RESISTANCES AND CHANCE TO HIT AKA THEY ARE "3" LEVELS ABOVE ANYONE SO IT'S SOMEWHAT OF A CHALLENGE NO MATTER WHAT.
EXAMPLE: IF THRALL WAS LEVEL 60 ELITE, A 70 PALADIN COULD SOLO HIM, IF HE WERE 70 PRE TBC, HE WOULD BE UNTOUCHABLE TO ANYONE BECAUSE EVERYONE'S SPELLS WOULD RESIST AND EVERYONE'S ATTACKS WOULD MISS. AS A WAY TO COUNTER THIS, DEVS ASSIGNED A RAID BOSS LEVEL SO HE AUTOMATICALLY HAS THE RESISTANCE OF A MOB 3 LEVELS ABOVE THE ATTACKER. THE ? IS JUST TO SYMBOLIZE HIS SIGNIFIGANCE AND TO REGULATE HIS AGGRO RANGE.

I was in a raid of nine...me, a rogue, and a warlock mounted to the cathedral of light, went into the basement, and since no one wanted to join earlier we said "LFM Raid on Archbishop in Stormwind, can provide DIRECT summons to his room" at that time we got the 9 people in our raid when we had 5, i pulled him down the basement, had DPS kill the guards, and then DPS him down, very simple fight.

Coup this, biatch.

He's a Holy Priest. I've seen him do three things: Holy Nova for about 800-1000 damage to everyone in a 20-yard radius, randomly-targeted Holy Smites for ~1000+ damage, and he Power Word: Shields himself for a large amount of damage. The Power Word: Shield should be purged. He goes down a lot faster than Highlord Bolvar, and there are less guards to deal with as well.

He is a boss, same as other Faction Leaders, and his lvl is not 50. He is not lvl 500 either, he is a raid boss, and most raid boses pre-BC were lvl 100, so I assume he is lvl 100. Post-BC bosses are lvl 250 however, but no ? mob is lvl 500.

you cannot solo him, even less getin the room alone, the guards alone would kill you, his holy smites would ass rape you.

He gives 15k CPs per kill, once per 2 hours, so if you can stage a 40 man raid into stormwind, and hold it there for >2 hours, you get a LOT of CPs.

The only way downing these NPCs is worth it is if you cleared a bunch of them consistently. 30k for this boss once every two hours isn't worth it.

Clearing 2+ of these every two hours is considering all the hassle you'd have to put up with.

He was downed by a PUG raid on Illidan server a couple days ago. Dropped a wicked priest staff like 70 stam/int and almost +400 healing, but I don't remember what it was called.
