It says "Speed Scales to Riding Skill" but doesn't say anything about an Outland/Northrend limitation maybe this means you will be able to ride it in Azeroth just not fly it.

yes its unique for the class, but so is flightform to a druid.
yes it scales with your ride skill, but:
100g for 60% mount + 200g for epic one is still only 300g..

This was changed in late September in beta, the full write up is available at DeathKnight.info (http://deathknight.info/2008/09/the-real-winged-steed/)

As for cost, hopefully it will be adjusted for the Live servers, as 950g on top of the flying skills is very steep, but that is most likely a a dream on my part. Not sure the reason behind the mount being so expensive, though Dragyn's math makes sense, since DKs get the epic riding skill free as the 4th or 5th quest you do, I guess this is one way to balance it back out. <shrug> guess we will see in 4 days.

Unlike the normal flying mounts (specifically the gryphons and wyverns), the cost of this one does scale down depending on your rep with the Knights. Granted, even at exalted it'll still be more expensive than any two gryphons/wyverns, but that's still better than having to pay a flat 1000g like you have to with the Kirin Tor mounts.

The cost doesn't bother me... anyone that makes a DK already has another class high enough they can make the money with.
also you can take your DK to level up ANY gathering profession, and it will be easier than your original character. You will already have epic speed mount, and high enough level the surrounding mobs won't be an issue while your dk is "catching up"

But I am on the fence bout how it looks.

Going to wait until I see some DKs with it, see the run graphics, ect and then decide.

As of 11/28 you can mount straight from your Acherus Deathcharger to your Winged steed of the Ebon Blade WITHOUT DISMOUNTING. Don't know if it's a bug, but you can do it. :)

Speed "scales to skill" so if your skill is 225 then the speed of your mount should be 225% not 60%. This means that when you get your epic mount training 300 then your mount should be 300% speed, but unfortunatly blizzard dose not get that so the mount is stuck being standard speed.

One question that I have not been able to find the answer for. Does the cost of this mount lower as the rep with the Knights of the Ebon Blade increases? (ie 10% discount at honoured, 15% at revered, and 20% at exalted)

well for example, if you are trying to mount your flying mount and get put into combat you are still on your 100% mount at least. this is VERY useful on pvp servers atm, not that a DK should really be running anyway :)

On the WoW forums, people constantly whine and complain about how the mount looks and blah blah blah. I think it looks cool, perhaps if it had some stringy webbing between the wing bones, it would have more of a decaying look (that's the only strange thing I find with it), and perhaps people would be quiet about it.

For those who were wondering, this mounts' price does scale with your Knights of the Ebon Blade rep, so it would be 950g at friendly, but if you wait till exalted the mount will only cost you 800g.

Yeah... it's a sweet mount... i could have had my epic flying by now but buying that has skint me , dont buy it... it doesnt even have feathers... its like it's gonna say when it jumps of a cliff : "wtf... im just falling, where'd my feathers go? " its just pathetic.... it's assive it just floats on its little blue stuff under it its just gonna glide through the air as it falls... It's a waste of time although it has got a bit of armour... so do gryphons

Personally, I say, "Go ahead, cost all you want!" Because this is the ugliest flying mount besides the flying carpet that I have seen. It looks so dumb and I'd rather just have an armored griffon (With all it's skin and feathers still on it) or a dragon or something.

yuck, honestly, I don't know what the hell was blizz thinking, I know many plp will simply say "if you don't like it, then don't buy it" or just downgrade/purge my comment. but the point is:

I want a DK flight-mount, but not THIS ONE.

no matter what specie it is, riding a frikking skeleton is not cool, unless the bones or most of them are covered by some armor.

that's the reason I never purchased the forsaken 60% mount, cause is an exposed skeleton, at least the 100% mount has a good cool armor to cover up the bones, it has a cool glow and dark energy emanating, and that unholy fire in the hooves.

does the ebon-bone-bird has any of that? nope.

is an ugly skeletal bird no matter how you look at it, sure, they fixed it a little with the armor, and making the beak darker, and the eyes glow in blue and all, it looks better than in beta, but is still lacking.

let's take in consideration, that this mount is more expensive than the regular flight mounts, so the only reason for getting it, is for eye-candy, well that eye-candy must be sweet not sour.

if this is a vanity mount it HAS TO LOOK NICER. a zombie griphon whould had been better, or at least a griphon that has all the effects of the forsaken 100% mount (AKA cool glow, full-sized armor that covers pretty much everything but the head, dark energy emanating form it, and an unholy fire trail when it flies) but this one looks like a rushed incomplete mount.

plp get this mount for the looks, so for christ sake give'em something nicer to look at :S

I like the concept of an exclusive class-mount and I want a nice DK flight mount, and am willing to pay more for it if it looks nice, but if I have to choose from this dirt, and say a netherdrake, a proto-dragon, or one of those drakes that drop from the eye/obsidian sanctum, then I rather go for the dragons.

hopefully in some future patch blizz will please all the DK's out there begging to have a frost wyrm as a mount

Just want to share this.

I just dinged 77, and my rep with Ebon Blade is 'Friendly (5860/6000)'
That's 5% discount, making this mount cost 950G.
So in order for me to use 60% flying mount in Northrend I will have to pay 800G for Expert Riding skill, 1000G for Cold Weather Flying, 950G for the DK mount. (800+1000+950 = 2750G).
Another +5000G for 280% flying. (2750+5000 = 7750G)

Now I'll come up with couple of scenarios.

A. You're the cheapest miser in the world and want to spend the least as possible. You don't care about looks.
Cheap flying mount in Shadowmoon Valley costs 100G.
For 60% flying mount, I will have to pay 100G for the mount, 800G for Expert Riding, 1000G for CWF. (100+800+1000 = 1900G)
For 280% flying mount, I will have to pay 200G for the flying mount in SMV, 5000G for Artisan Riding. (1900+200+5000 = 7100G)

B. You're not as cheap, but you also don't want to pour gold down the drain. You care about looks.
Cheap flying mount in SMV costs 100G.
For 60% flying mount, I will have pay 100G for the mount, 800G for Expert Riding, 1000G for CWF. (100+800+1000 = 1900G)
ⓐYour rep with Ebon Blade is 'Friendly (5% discount)

Use 60% Wind Rider mount from 77 to 80, open up Ebon Blade rep in Icecro.....uhhh.....ummm....I should check whether if DK already has EB phase change in Icecrown, as soon as I get my flying mount :P
Anyway... focus questing on Ebon Blade rep, ding 80, buy the Tabard, grind items in Heroic + gain rep with EB, which will cost me 7700G.
50G cheaper then me straight up buying DK flying mount, and also having an extra mount for the achievement.

To other people reading this, you can choose anyway you want according to your taste.
Note that if you plan on learning Artisan Riding skill as soon as you ding 77, my post is useless to you.

This post is about how you can save gold (or don't have the gold) when you plan on using 60% flying mount for some level.
A warning though, 60% is hell a slow, heck of a lot of time spend on traveling. You will realize how slow that is after you become accustomed to 280% mount speed.

Apprentice Riding (Skill 75)
60% land mount speed
Requires level 20
Cost: 4 gold
Mount cost: 1 gold
Mail will be sent to players at level 20 guiding them to the riding trainer

Journeyman Riding (Skill 150)
100% land mount speed
Requires level 40
Cost: 50 gold
Mount cost: 10 gold
Mail will be sent to players at level 40 guiding them back to the riding trainer

Expert Riding (Skill 225)
150% flying mount speed; 60% land mount speed
Requires level 60
Cost: 600 gold (faction discounts now apply)
Mount Cost: 50 gold
Can now be learned in Honor Hold (Alliance) or Thrallmar (Horde)

Artisan Riding (Skill 300)
280% flying mount speed; 100% land mount speed
Requires level 70
Cost: 5,000 gold (faction discounts now apply)

For land mounts plus training, its 65g
For flying mounts plus training, its 5750g
Cold weather flying is 1000g
The mount its self is 1000g
total 7835
With both land mounts and all the land mount training free, becomes 7750g

Personally I'm not too fussed about it, it's just a fun extra, a cash sink for Death Knights.

I think since this is a dk specific mount, that this should come with cold weather flying so when people get enough money to buy it they dont have to wait a long time to use it. In addition I think the dk specific flying mount should be a frost wyrm.

this mount doesn't seems it's hard to get all what you need is be a death knight and go to the ebon hold in eastern plaguelands.... im not sure but i think that's the way because i didn't play as death knight before but maybe you will have problems with passing scarlet area which is (Tyr's Hand) all are elites there

Confirmed by myself that (as the tool tip says classes:Death Knight.) it cant be used by a mage. Bought it today, dont ask me how i got up, no hacks just slow fall :D. still waste of 950g (friendly with ebon).

Why would people want to spend their precius time and try to get it on other classes, when it has Classes: Death Knight written right there. You think this is some kind of a typo? Or that you can ride it, as long as the GM won't notice? And even if they do you can get away with a warning?

You can still see the original flying chicken via glitch or timing in the DK starter area. Look for the necromancers reanimating gryphon corpses, and sometimes the gryphons will fly down from really high up to aid the ghouls when they are attacking the entrances to New Avalon.

I bought mine awhile back, but I do feel they should lower the price and include 225 training as part of learning the mount. It's a class exclusive that is a retarded money sink for what it does....sure it upgrades to 310% ONCE you acquire at least 1 other 310...but it still looks stupid as hell....I remade my DK and I'm not even gonna bother with this PoS...just gonna get the frostwyrm from ICC achievements.

Looks better with the armour on, but the skeletal wings bother me somewhat. I think they should have left the feathers on the wings, because no matter how much I try to convince myself it's just a game and weirder things happen, I can't shake off the impression this thing should not be able to fly.

IMO, a MUCH better choice would have been the Ghost Gryphon of the Plaguelands.

Ok, despite the fact that claiming an undead bird flapping it's wings to fly in a world filled with magic "doesn't make sense" is itself nonsensical, it does make sense. It is an undead bird. In the world Blizzard created, it follows the rules. How? Undead creatures retain some aspect of the former life. Living Gryphons flap their wings. That is instinct. That is how they fly. An undead one lacks the intelligence to know it doesn't need to flap it's wings. So it does.

Then again, magic in Blizzard involves some physical action (aka somatic component). Thus, it is also possible that in the world Blizzard created their rules state that magical things need to flap their wings to fly. This too makes sense in the context of the world it is in.

"Making sense" is basically saying something fits the context. Given the context and undead bird flapping it's wingbones to fly, magic or not, makes sense.

Far as I can tell, it is the same model as the Archerus FP “skeletal canary”.

It costs 1000 gold at normal faction, scaling down with cost based on reputation. It has a different model then the 'skeletan canary' one, and looks relatively nice. It's a skeletan bird with glowing blue eyes and a glowing blue skull face on the barding.

Interestingly, it scales according to your riding skill. So at 225 riding, it is a 60% speed mount. At 300 riding, it is a 280% speed mount.

So with 225 skill, it's likely best to buy a 100 gold mount from BC. However, once you save up that 5000 gold for Artisan riding, you can pick this up for a thousand gold, saving half the price of a similar mount in Dalaran, while also avoiding the grind for BC faction as a Death Knight.

You can purchase this mount from Quartermaster Ozorg, which is in the Heart of Acherus.

Once through the death gate through to Ebon Hold, you go downstairs and he is standing to the left as you go into the great room.
