That effect sure is nice for affliction warlocks, it remind me to the one that drops from Priestess Delrissa from MGT.

i find this to be trully THE trinket for all locks, regardless of their spec.at first i thought that blizz trashed this excellent trinket by adding the crit rating instead of spell power bonus... however, if one pays close attention to the talents of a lock :
-affliction locks get a proc per tick equal to their crit chance to do 100% more dmg
-the pets of demo locks get a % of the lock's crit chance as crit chance of their own
-obvious reasons why a destro lock would want crit rating (lolz)
And like Nykylai said, now its not just an affliction lock/shadow priest trinket. It may sound strange but even a tanking paladin could profit ALOT from this since in wotlk all of them will have Seal of Vengeance/Corruption.
It will almost surely get bonus from spell power and will be able to crit, since its an upgrade from
https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=34470
(wich i have on my lock, and it does 900 dmg non-crit with me having around 1000 spell bonus)

This trinket is good for any class that has a DOT and likes crits.
Arguments on who's it meant for or is better used by are moot. You have a DOT and a bias opinion for your class, that's great. It doesn't make you more or less deserving then anyone else with a DOT and an ego.
This has a 10% chance to send a shadow bolt at your target. (Currently listed, so it may be wrong).

According to the equip effect (click on it) the proc has a 10% chance and no internal cooldown (as of 3.0.3). Thus for every dot on the target this thing has a higher chance of proccing, so classes that use alot of dots (or dots that affect a large number of targets at once) would seem to be who this was designed for.
Thus, pre-inevitable nerf, the class to benefit most from this trinket are locks with their 6 potential dots, followed by consecrating paladins and then most everyone else.
Not that this really matters, as they will almost certainly place an internal cooldown on the item, making this entire argument about best class/spec moot.

Why? Fire mages have Fireball (or Frostfire Bolt), Living Bomb, Ignite, and Pyroblast for dots.
Not to mention Fire/Frostfire mages get a lot more out of the crit than a Shadow Priest or Afflic Lock
.
That post actually made me register just to reply to that piece of "info". You, sir, have no clue about Affli locks or Shadow Priests, seeing as how you still think crit is bad for them. Affli locks get a chance to deal an additional tick with their dots based on their crit chance, and Shadowpriests gain % dot damage based on their crit chance (it counts buffs/debuffs aswell), not to mention that SP's get 100% crit damage, and mindflay crits now aswell. So, before you go nerd raging at a priest or a lock for bidding on this/rolling on this, think twice, you might end up feeling like a fool.

I used this on KT after I picked it up and per the log 10% proc with an internal cooldown of about 15sec.
It ended up being around 2% of my total dmg which is just where Timbal's Focusing Crystal used to be. Over all great trinket for
ANYONE
who uses DoTs. I personally would favor SPriest, Affliction Locks, and DK's for it.

Is this the best trinket for a affliction warlock in the game right now?
(I am not arguing about other classes, the question is, if I am affliciton warlock is this THE trinket I need to go for?)

I tested the trinket as an affliction warlock during a 465 seconds Kel'Thuzad fight. These are the resulting numbers:
15 hits, 1077 average
4 crits, 1761 average
4 misses
Total: 23213 damage over 465 seconds, 49.9 DPS
The numbers yield a proc rate of about once every 20 seconds which confirms the expected 15 second internal cooldown. (With 5 dots ticking, the expected proc rate would be 18 seconds with a perfect dot upkeep. Of course, a perfect dot upkeep can only be approximated in a real-world fight that involves some movement.)
The misses are due to +3% hit from talents not applying to the trinket. Still, this yields a solid +50 DPS from the proc in addition to the crit rating.
With my current gear, the crit rating is valued at about 60 DPS, yielding a total of 110 DPS for this trinket. This is about in line with the Dying Curse trinket (
https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=40255
) if you are no longer in need of hit. As long as you require the hit from Dying Curse to make the hit cap, Dying Curse is better by an estimated +30 DPS.

This is not thottbot, or the general forums. Debate as to which class should use which item are pointless and stupid. Comments should be relevant to the function of the item, or some sort of useful information, not endless bickering that makes it hard to find the useful info. I strongly recommend everyone who reads this page downrate all of the pointless comments until it is clean.

I did feel the guilds warlocks die a little inside though, when i got it.

According to this item, it'd work alongside
Wandering Plague
(so you'd get an empowered AoE tick), making it very useful for a Death Knight (most likely Unholy) who keeps up the Diseases and has sufficient Critical Strike rating to keep it ticking AoE-style. Are there anyone who can confirm this idea? Seeing as even though Blizzard isn't always a 100% correct on the Tooltips, it'd seem possible.

What exactly constitutes a 'spell' as stated in the tooltip?
For example, would
https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/spell=49001#comments
count, as it's not regarded as being in the physical school? Or is treated differently as a poison?
Hunters normally have Serpent Sting up constantly for the +10% damage bonus to Steady Shot (when glyphed). Rogues would have similar poison dots on a target. Could they proc this trinket as well?
Edit: I found a hunter with this and it does indeed proc from Serpent Sting dots, not sure about rogues though. Sorry casters.

Diminishing returns make it such that while affliction locks technically get the most out of it, there's not a noticeable difference from 4 dots and barely from 3.
Cba to do the math to illustrate this, atm.

I agree.. don't rate this last one down. While afflocks and spriests do benefit, saying that they benefit as much as or more than a fire/frostfire mage is laughable. I ain't bashing this trinket, but people do seem to be of the opinion that crit is the most important thing in the world for these classes when it ain't :p
As for the person who said about shadowbolts and haunt benefitting from crit..
As affl, you probably have the +50% crit bonus on them.. not +100%. So yeah, go figure. The crit ain't as useful.
As for the dot? 10% procc chance, every 15 seconds.. lets look at that.
Destr lock: Immolation, Corruption, CoA (molten core). Immolate and corruption every 3 secs, coa every 2, so thats an average of 1.166.. ticks per second. This works out at an
expected
Don't flame me for saying average plx
time for procc of 8.57 after the 15 seconds - every 23.57 seconds
Afflock (Without CoA): Corruption, Siphon Life, UA: 1 tick per second, expected procc time of 10 secs after the 15 - every 25 seconds
Afflock (with CoA): 1.5 ticks per second, expected procc time of 6.66.. seconds after cd - every 21.66.. seconds.
Lets see values for other classes.
Death Knight: Blood Plague/Frost Fever: 0.66.. ticks per second, works out at 15 extra seconds - expected procc time of 30 seconds.
With death and decay or unholy blight: 1.66.. ticks per second single target. Already more than an afflock.
With both? 2.66.. ticks per second. And those are aoe.
You can imagine the numbers from consecration as well, though I doubt its that useful for that crit on a protadin. Ret don't use consecration much right? :p
Fire mage, for reasons stated above, hard to calculate the effect of this. The dots are inconsistent, applied often.
Druids would be 0.66.. ticks per second, works out at 15 extra seconds - expected procc time of 30 seconds. So not that great for them. However, they need the crit more than many classes; often underlooked, crits offer them mana back and faster casts.

Very useful for any class that has DOTs. Rogues in particular should not pass this up as our Rupture and Deadly Poison should always be ticking... possibly more often than other classes DOTs. The passive crit is incredible also. The only thing bad about this trinket for us is having to explain to those who lack understanding and comprehension that Rogues have DOTs and I am rolling on this.

By Torgier 3 days ago (Patch 3.0.3)
"I have more dots so it will proc more"...
No. With an internal CD the number of procs is cut down to a ppm which will be pretty much universal for every class assuming they keep their dots up.
While I do agree with you that anyone with dots can keep this up fairly well, the more DoTs you do have will greatly increase the PPM you will get. I mean if I were a class with 1 or 2 dots ticking every 3 seconds, I'm sure their chances of a proc will be bit lower than say a warlock with 6 dots ticking every 2-3 seconds.

I would like to stress the fact that this beauty is really good for a Balance Druid, as mentioned before. Don't let anyone tell you that SW priests, Warlocks etc. deserve it more.
It is true that they have more dots etc., but I like to look at it primary as Crit trinket (Natures Grace, Eclipse, anyone?).
Currently the best Caster DPS Crit trinket there is. Pure DPS. All others have different abilities, mana restore etc., but this one is pure killer.

Incorrect. The "ppm" he's talking about is the internal cooldown on the proc effect. It doesn't make any difference as to how many DoTs you have ticking away on the enemy, they'll only proc the effect once every 15-20 seconds. Thus, it doesn't matter the class, as long as you have a DoT ticking away, it will proc at the same rate.
You sir are also incorrect. If you read the tooltip you would notice that there is a 10% proc chance.
If it had a 100% proc chance and you had one dot that ticked every 15 seconds then you would get the same benefit as someone with 100 dots ticking every second, however the lower the proc rate goes the more benefit there is to having multiple dots ticking more frequently.

This is what I was saying in my post. I know there is an internal cooldown, I know there is a 10% proc chance off of each dot. I was only saying that someone that has more dots ticking within let's say a 5 second window, they will have a much higher chance of getting the proc to actually happen.
I mean if there was a caster with 1 dot that ticked every 3 seconds, a 10% proc chance means he might not even see a proc for 30-40 seconds. But if you have a caster with 5 or 6 dots all ticking every 3 seconds, they will be much closer to the internal CD and getting another proc immediately after the internal CD is back up. (Every 15-20 seconds)

Enter token ret pally.
Now that ret paladins have a DoT (
https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/spell=53384
) which is constantly up in a raid, and is rarely overwritten before it ticks (due to proccing off two abilities with long CDs), wouldn't this be useful for this class as well? Glancing over meters from Naxx25 last night, I am always at the top of the "DoT uptime" meter, so it would be safe to say that I would benefit greatly from a DoT augmentation.
On that note, I'm uncertain as to whether this would proc off consecration, being that it's not a DoT applied directly to a hostile, but rather a ground affect much like Death and Decay. Any insight?

I'm a shadow priest and I was wondering does Mind Flay do "periodic damage"?
If there is a group of 100 mobs and I Mind Flay one, will this have 99 chances to proc each tick? When it does proc from Mind Flay, will not not be able to proc again for a time on ANYTHING else because of an internal cooldown, or just that specific mob won't be procced again? I am wondering, if I am Mind Flaying, and it procs, will it send the shadowy bolt to EVERY target? How exactly does this work with Mind Flay?

Mindflay is not periodic damage, as far as i know. So it wont proc of this trinket.
The internal cooldown is 15 seconds, so that means: Once it procs, it wont proc for another 15 seconds, then it will be able to proc again.
It wont send a shadowbolt to every target, it states that additional damage will be dealt, so it will be dealt to the same target, you were damaging with your (Mindflay) dots

Taken from the best-in-slot trinket list of an Affliction Warlock thread:
http://elitistjerks.com/f80/t37900-dots_you_affliction_warlock_thread/
is a sad case: With spell power, it would be a nice trinket, but like this, the "new timbals" just does not kick it. It is a good pvp-trinket, though (keeps people in combat).
...
12. (Naxx25) 36 dps + proc(+60 dps) = 96 dps
There's a math part in the post, but the numbers are probably based on this information earlier on in the thread:
For a naxxramas starter gear, the stat-to-dps ratios of these are:
(these rates may be slightly different from the ones in the math part as I am constantly improving the calculation but won't update the item comparison every time I do so).
10 hit rating = 14.07 dps
10 spell power = 13.12 dps
10 haste rating = 5.48 dps
10 crit rating = 3.75 dps
10 spirit = 4.33 dps
10 int = 1.14 dps
Don't misunderstand my post as "affl0x cant roll on the item!", I'm just saying you shouldn't overestimate the trinket.
Edit: The above info is pre 3.1, so the numbers have changed, but it's still a poor trinket (now 14th best trinket in game).

A few things that might tilt the scales in favor of this item:
While it is
not
affected by spell power, attack power, etc, it
is
affected by your crit rating. The number of crits I get with this item directly reflect my spell crit chance.
It
is
affected by debuffs on the boss, specifically things that increase magical damage taken. Thus, things like
Ebon Plague
will increase its damage.
It is
not
affected by class-specific talents/abilities which increase the critical strike damage bonus of your spells (such as
Runic Focus
for Death Knights or
Ruin
for Warlocks)
It
is
affected by fight-specific buffs which increase your total damage dealt. This would include things like
Polarity Shift
on Thaddius and
Power Spark
aura on Malygos.

Im wondering how good it realy is for FF-mages. Im very in doubt how strong this trinket realy is. Ive heard it works like the magister trinket used to be and give plus damage to shadowpreist in shadowform.
so bassicly the trinket does as follow correct me if im wrong:
It has a 10% proc change of dots ticking
It has a internal cooldown of 15 seconds
It can crit and it scales with crit-rating
It scales with shadowpriest shadowform (the shadowbolt it cast)
And im unsure about if the shadowbolt crit, it will apply the "Improved shadowbolt" debuff from warlocks?
And it also does something for Death knights that im unsure how works
According to rawr this is not very strong for FF mages but im wordering if rawr calculate it right. Rawr tells me that the 3 best trinkes is: 1:
Illustration of the Dragon Soul
2:
Sundial of the Exiled
and 3rd very close to 2 tho:
Embrace of the Spider
And this trinket is way way down on the list. But as said above it scales with crit. And FF mages has alot of crit. I run around with 50^% ~ crits in raids. (combustion aswell) So it would crit alot for me. And the dots will also tick nonstop from mages: FFB dot, Pyro dot, ignite dot and LB dot.
So my question is will this trinket gets better the better gear you get or will it get worse?
And how good is it for a frostfire mage? (better than the 3 above or worse?)
Im sure there is some elite jerk out there caclulating like a mad man that can provide me with a straight forward answer. :)

I have read that his does proc on druid bleeds as well and would make a decent Kitty trinket. I would defer to any crit heavy class with a constant dot (Boomkin perhaps), but would grab this up to play with if no one was interested.
The internal cooldown is what seems to make this trink less desireable to rogues, kitty's and warriors, but the crit on this is insane in and of itself, getting procced extra damage is just the icing. And since Kitty's will always always have rip and rake up, this should do some nice extra damage for them.

From a hunter perspective, this trinket is a pain in the xxx. +95 crit is awesome, proc damage is very nice, 10% proc rate kills all its beauty lol. This would proc much less than it would for a dot heavy class since our only dot serpent sting is ticking every 3 secs.
In the end, I would never roll over a lock, rouge, druid or warrior.
But I am disappointed cuz the white dps version of this, bandit's insignia, has 190AP instead of 95 Crit. And it has a 45 sec cooldown instead of 15. It really sucks compared to this trinket.
lol @ ppl who think 95 crit = 190 ap
lol @ 3 times longer hidden cooldown for 2 times higher damage.
If Ulduar comes out late and this trinket drops down to the going to the guildbank phase, i will bid and try it.

If anyone thinks this item is actually "good" for a mage, they are sadly mistaken.
It being my main, our dot's (ignite tick, FFB / FB tick, LB tick) aren't substantial enough to worry about having an additional dot put on them.
The two best in slots are Dying Curse and Illustration of the Dragon Soul, we benefit much more off the raw Spell Power rather than the 2% crit off this item. If you're a FFB mage, you should be sitting at a high enough crit chance to not have to worry about having the 2% off this item.
All in all, leave this for the Warlocks and Spriests, this item doesn't benefit mages nearly enough for us to roll on it.

UA, SL, CoA, Immolate, Corruption, Death coil, Drain life, Drain soul, along with then benefit of haunt increasing dmg from all of these.. only talents afflic locks have for direct dmg.. Shadowbolt which is used most.. incinerate..rarely used by afflic, searing pain. never used on raid bosses by afflic, soulfire <--- most worthless spell.. so that pretty much leaves just shadowbolt.. every other spell is a DoT .. Afflic locks deserve this trinket more than the other classes..imo

Every class has their own dots , this trinket might not be good for some but saying that this trinket is better for affliction over any class is really a load of bullcrap. And so what if dots can crit? Dots are such a small percentage of our dmg that if they crit or not won't matter. So if you really think this is best for your class even thou it's good for others, then others might not be willing to bid as much as you, which i really doubt.
Really nice for a destruction lock if you're aiming for it.

Been using this on my shadow priest for a couple days now, and I must say that i love it. Full cleared naxx last night, and I noticed a good 2% dmg increase with this equipped over the
Sundial of the Exiled
. My other trinket is the
Dying Curse
, and I also have the
Lightweave Embroidery
, and I have to say it provides a nice synergy. All procs, allowing me to focus wholly on my dps as well as the fight in general (ie, not standing in fire =P).
We also had it drop again last night, and we gave it to our boomkin, and he also notice a 1.8% dmg increase, though he hasn't done much comparison with the
Sundial of the Exiled
for himself.
So obviously, this is very good for classes that have a few different DoT effects that have a consistent uptime (ie, Warlock, Shadow Priest, Balance Druid) so they can have it proc every time the internal CD is up.
Overall, a very nice trinket.

Our raid group's rule on this trinket is that you must be a class that has at least 4 DoTs on the boss for 100% of the fight to even get full benefit of this trinket. That generally rules out everyone but shadow priests and affliction warlocks.

Ok... Just because everyone's Hunter-like arguments over who should get this amuse the hell out of me, I felt I should add my two cents. According to MaxDPS.com this Trikent breaks down for DPS by class and build as follows:
Afflic Lock - 64.58 DPS
SPriest - 82.48 DPS
Fury War - 56.08 DPS
Fire Mage - 109.07 DPS
Combat Rogue - 33.17 DPS
Hunter - 25.69 DPS
Unholy DK - 87.8 DPS
Druids did not have it listed though I am sure it would be nice for them.
So, obviously it is definitely a Huntard Trinket!
In truth, if it is an improvement over your current trinket, I say you should have a shot at it no matter what the class.

Would this proc off of Blizzard/Arcane Missiles or does it only proc off of spells that apply a debuff to the target which then deals dmg?

This trinket will not proc off of ebon plaguebinger/crypt fever as it does not deal damage, nor will it proc off of UB or DnD as neither of these effects are DoTs.
But it will proc off of Blood Plague and Frost Fever as those are dots.

Well, the point I was making is it is not a trinket especially for any one class. In the end I feel that if it is an improvement for that person then they should have a shot at it. Now, each guild has their own way of spreading out loot. Some guilds only want specific classes rolling first for specific gear. So, people's complaining about getting rolled against for it, or making the case for it to only go to this or that class should be directed at their guild/raid since I definitely have no input on whether or not they get to roll for anything. :)
Oh, one last thing. If after the new patch hunters get a good use out of it that's cool. I only used them as examples, as like in almost every forum for an item you see about 5-10 hunters talking about something is a hunter item and no one else should roll for it. For my raid, if a hunter could get more use out of it than anyone else wanting it, I'd give it to him. But, for this item almost every class gets a pretty good use out of it. So, I guess that is why people feel so strongly about it. All the competition.

it also procs from a paladins Righteous Vengeance DoT effect.
Assuming it procs from Consecration is a safe bet also.

I like this trinket because it makes me giggle when I kill someone in PvP with it.

I'm assuming this will proc off a Retribution Paladin's Righteous Vengeance, but will it proc off Consecration considering it's an AoE effect that applies damage like a DoT rather than being an actual DoT.
And will it proc off Death and Decay considering that DnD puts a debuff on anyone in it?

Is this any good for Tankadins? Seal of Vengeance is a great stacking DoT so it seems like this would provide good extra tps if you don't need stats, although not having an "oh #$%^ button would be a downer"

This and Darkmoon Card: Death on an unholy/frost dk for pvp, i know you can get 5k crits with death card due to the increase to shadow damage from dk talents, but what about this one? if so, 8-10k burst procs for pvp (that's assuming both crit, and around the same time)

I've been looking at trinkets lately and saw another one similar to this one
Darkmoon Card: Death
. I was wondering which trinket gets better dps because on one side you get 10 crit rating and on the other side you get about an extra 1K dmg per proc. Just wanted peoples opinions on this.

Question: As a shadow priest I currently use Dying Curse and Eye of the Broodmother. Can I justify replacing one of those with the Extract of Necromantic Power? Or should I try and move some items around so I can replace Dying Curse?

Feral druids: both rip and rake will cause this to proc. The proc was 1.8% of my DPS in a brief target dummy test. Very nice trinket for feral dps.
