Renember whit Major glyph that makes your maul hit 2 targets its really great idol in aoe-situations seing our maul normally do the most damage while aoeìng on packs whit 2-4 mobs.

Now, its difficult to calculate the exact effect Idol of Perspicacious Attacks has on your threat, as some people use Maul only if they have excess rage, or barely swipe due to it breaking CC, but keep in mind that as a tank its only real value is some extra threat, so ask yourself, do you have difficulties keeping aggro?

with the maul glyph, extra maul damage on bleeding targets etc maul will provide you with most of the damage output you do (for 1 mill damage about 66% of mine is maul commonly)

as for swipe, if you don't want to swipe for fear of breaking cc, in current leveling instances, heroics, and even in naxxramas, you mark mobs for cc, you need to stop tanking, cc is a waste of time in most cases

threat is a none issue (for me anyway), i look at this idol as helping my damage output, not my threat generation

idol of terror will be better for avoidance (as it actually provides some) but i'd take this for tanking in most cases

i was using https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=33509 until lvl80. now, i got Idol of Perspicacious Attacks but i think that i still need an upgrade for tanking... any ideas for a better tanking idol?

Bear that only use Maul if they have access rage should be banned from grouping/rading with other people.. Maul is the single most effective threat builder and should be used as much as possible. When I pull a boss, I start with a FFF (just to get it's attention and a bit of extra rage) and when the boss appreaches me, he gets an instant Maul/Mangle combo. Puuf, 15K threat, before dps have even begun to attack. I'd like to see the dps'er that can pull aggro of a well placed pull from a bear, once the lacerates have begun to work their magic..

Breaking CC? I'm almost inclined to ask what that is... CC is so... well.. TBC'ish.. The only place in Naxx where CC is even considered is when Kel'Thuzad MCs players.. Noone uses CC anymore.. You AoE tank, you AoE dps and you AoE heal.. if a mage sheeps something, it's his own choice and waste of mana.. If the name is red, it must be tanked..

What I wanted to know is if my gear is good enough for Idol of Terror/Corruptor to outshine this Idol DPS & Threat-wise. So I did some napkin math and maybe some one else is interested in the results as well.

Single-Boss-Fight with Unlimited Raged and specced into Rend & Tear:
DPS-wise I would roughly gain 140 dps from the Mangle-Part
While only ~5 DPS from the swipe-part (assuming 3 Swipes in 12 Seconds)

or a Total of 145 dps.

For threat thats simple:
Swipe has a 1,5 muliplier in addition to bear form
Maul has only bear form multiplier
Bearform multiplier is 2,07something

Thus we get a 305,325 TPS increase.

Keep in mind tho that when I talk about "incrase" I talk about using no idol verus using this Idol.

For comparison:
Idol of Terror, for my gear according to Rawr, is a 7 TPS increase.
Idol of Corrupter, for my gear according to Rawr, is a 124 TPS Increase.
This Idol, according to my late night & drunk napkin math, is a 305,3 TPS increase.

As far as I can tell, still one of the best idols for soloing old content. When trash clearing AOE with Swipe, the newer Idols don't do much for your DPS. This won't add a ton, but it will add some.
