Just confirming that this drops in live. Got it 10.18.2008. Saw it drop once in the 21 times I killed HH that day. It works as a land mount in Azeroth and a land & flying mount in Outland. I don't seem to need any special macros to use it in one or the other, I just added it to my actionbar and it works. Horse leaves a glow behind it's legs and seems to have a greenish aura.

In outland with 225 riding your speed will be 100% on the ground and ~~60%~~(no longer true due to the changes in flying mounts) in the air.

I have a question, it says it scales to your riding skill, but if it drops and you win it, then say you train the epic flying skill afterwards, does the mount then become an epic flyer? Or does it stay 60% like when you got it?

It scales based on your current skill. If you buy a higher skill after you get it, it will take the new skill amount. In that case, it would become a 280% flyer in Outland if you trained the appropriate skill after you picked it up.

It is possible to acquire this mount before level 70. A level 64 on my server currently possesses this mount. As long as you can enter the SM graveyard and can find a willing group to drag you along (ask guildies for best results), you have a shot at getting this mount this year.

farmed this the first night, with a lock, and another account sent up in trade district. killed HHM about 70 times, and on around the 65-68th time the reins dropped, but i didn't win. Dissapointing that i didn't win, and dissapointing i don't have much time except for weekends to play for 5 hours straight to farm, hopefully i will win this soon. at least someone in my guild won, haha

The Mount will go as fast as your riding skill permits. If you have highest land riding skill then it goes 100%, if you have epic flyer it goes 280% when flying. Very fun mount :) Even with the few I see flying around Shatt I still get tells. Took me 3 hours of non stop runs to get the mount to drop even once! About 21-24 runs in is when we saw it drop. According to this blue post, "the Horseman's mount is ten times as rare as the Squashling, in terms of pure numbers." Just from personal experience over the 75ish runs I have made over the past several days, I make the educated guess that the squashling pet is at most a 14-16% drop, and I would not be surprised if the drop rate was 10% or lower. This makes the Reins, at best, a less-than-2% drop. All of this is pure conjecture, of course, but short of getting inside the servers it is probably about as accurate as we will get.

Heres a fun little trick for those lucky enough to have gotten the mount (like myself...wooo).

In outlands, if you're running along while mounted on the ground, fly up a yard, then press the move down button, it drops you about halfway through the ground. You remain halfway through the ground for a good 4-5seconds before it pops you back out and you're running normally again. While you're in the ground you move at whatever flight speed you have trained.

People get really confused when you zoom passed them on the coolest mount in the game at epic speed :)

I'm up at 75 runs so far on this day, and about 120 runs in total.
I still haven't seen a single mount drop, and my hope is somewhat failing.

I'm continiously asking in trade and lfg for a group that is willing to pass on the mount for 1000gold each.

Just to let you know I'm not sneaking into groups.. :)

The sword is the most rare item, except for the mount, which I have yet not seen.

Just got mine today, rolled with another 2 people. Such a nice ride. As i have 225 riding skill it still only goes 60/100 land/air. Nice!

I finally got this mount after killing the Headless Horseman 33 times. I got the Headless Horsemans Blade as well. I rolled a 99, while another guy rolled 92. I put a few screenshots, both in the air and on the ground. I have 225 Riding Skill, and in the air, the mount goes 60% flying speed, and on the ground (You can summon anywhere), goes 100% faster.

There is a rumor going around that the mount can be found from the Treat Bags, obtained every hour at an innkeeper. This is probably assumed since the Squashling pet and Hallowed Helm can also be obtained through the Treat Bags.

I personally think this is a rumor. The Horseman Reigns is a Feat of Strength, and I don't see Blizzard allowing this to be obtained through a random hour occurrence, but rather through the effort of fighting 'ol Headless.

Can anyone confirm/justify this rumor?

While random is indeed random, the chance of Deathchanger's Reins dropping was increased with 3.0.2. This is the second time the drop rate has been increased, from the rather crazy 1 in 5000 WAY back in the day to the 1 in 100 it is now.

They must have increased the drop rate for this, after a hotfix. Did a run yesterday, and in five kills we got three mounts. The problem was that one player got two mounts, even though they should be unique, obviously. A GM confirmed that you shouldn't be able to roll on the mount when you already have one, and that it's a bug.

Sadly I wasn't one of us who got the Horseman's reins. Better luck next time, I guess.

My farming for this mount has continued, and I'm now closing in to 350 numbers of total kills and I have yet still not seen the mount a single time.

I think it's me being unlucky, and I just hope rng will award me for my hard work.

It just dropped for me today. I have killed this guy about 10 times before, so I would say the drop rate is about 1-2%. I lost the roll, but this mount looks awesome on anyone! Totally worth getting.

After that, the Hallowed Helm and the Sinister Squashling dropped on the same kill!

I have seen the helm once and never seen the pet. I won the roll on the helm and lost on the pet.

Does anyone know if the chance for this dropping has anything to do with how fast you kill the HH? I've almost killed the horseman's head on the 2nd phase (got him down to less than 10 hp), but never could do it quick enough.. and I heard that if you kill him during the first phase he'll have a high chance to drop the reins, does anyone have any more info on this or know that it's not true at all?

I have ran this event 637 times in the process of lowbie summons. I have had absolutely no luck in a single mount drop. I have come up with the theory that speed on how fast you drop the boss down has relevance. I have seen many more pet/sword drops when I downed him in a minute or two compared to where lowbie matches are 5-6 minutes and even though pets would drop, it didn't drop as frequently. imput would be wonderful as I am becoming extremely stressed after 637 entire runs. Any advise due to the fact there are only 6-7 more days left would be splendid.

Personally i have ran this instance everyday since the event has started, on most runs all i see are the rings drop... and thats all that mostly drops when i go.. being a mage.. i only found one of the loots good for me.. apart for the pet/pumpkin helm. 5 days left until the events over still waiting for the mount to drop.... Although i've seen a few people on my server with one... i'm yet to experince one to drop.

It is an incredibly low droprate. Unfortunately, most of us will not even see this mount drop, despite doing five summons every day of Hallow's End. And even if it does drop, you have to outroll four other people, meaning that your chances of getting this mount are extremely low.

If you have a whole lot of nice acquaintances then maybe you can increase your chance by heading in without a summon, but I wouldn't count on people allowing you in a group unless you had a summon available. ;)

Another quirk, if you ride this through the portal, from Azeroth to Outlands, you will have to resummon it to fly. For some reason, it seems to stay in land mount mode after going through.

I did this 5 times a day for about a week. In that amount of time I got the blade, Hallowed Helm, ring, and through trick or treating I got the squashling. After so many attempts I have finally gotten the mount. Any1 on Bleeding Hollow looking to increase there chances if it drops, PST me. I do the quest to get the summons every day. Those percentages on the drop rate are not to say that if you ran this 100 times you'd see a 10% drop-rate item drop 10 times. It it says that chances are this would happen when infact something with a 99% chance to drop might not drop once, though this would probably cause the universe to implode.

Don't know if it's just me, but I find this mount to be quite glitched.

A) You can begin the summoning process while in combat, but it will "fail"
B) You can mount in some places you'ld normally be unable to, like
towers in Alterac Valley
C) You can't dismount while in motion like you can on other mounts.

I have run this about 56 times, of these, i recorded what dropped 50 times. i have seen the squashling drop 4 times, the different rings 32 times, the magic broom 10 times, the helm 3 times, and finally on my 50th run, i saw the mount drop but unforunately, i lost the roll to a priest by 4 points. Being a mount collector, i was hoping to get this mount before the event ends however, my hopes are diminishing. I never even managed to get any of the Brewfest mounts.

Interesting little graphical error with this mount. It never adjusts to inclination when using it as a land mount. It is always running completely horizontal. You can see what I'm talking about in the screen shot of the the HH mount next to the warlock mount (picture 12 atm).

This is course may get fixed in 3.0.3.

My friend has ran the Headless Horseman approximately 112 times during this event. He mentioned that this mount didn't drop once at all in the time he killed HH. Im confirming this item has an extremely low drop rate.

What could be better than running HH with a couple of other players that haven't even done The Headless Horseman. So all told, we summoned him 8 times in this run. The Horseman's Blade dropped twice, which was good for me and the pally that were running this group. After our 6th summon, our druid thought we were out of summons and hearthed out. So down to 4-manning him, what fun! We summon him again and pwn him easily. Just a ring drops. We heal and mana up. Final summon. PWNED! I walk over to his body, click to loot it, and.......The Horseman's Reins! w00t. Got both the sword and the mount. All in all, it was a good night! And the best part, I don't have to get a flying mount now, just the skill!

Super rare drop, me and a guildy have farmed this every night since the event started. 30+ summons a night, I have seen it drop 3 times. Tonight I finally won it. Very cool looking mount, however I noticed the glitches in it right away. Still, saves you from having to buy an epic mount. The only mount I really am looking forward to, that I would use over this currently is the Travler's Tundra Mammoth.

If you are going to farm this guy, I would recommend getting a tank/healer/lock(for summons)/Mage(for courtesy ports). You can just send tells to anyone level 65-69 and most will be willing to come in summon as long as you can summon/port/give them a chance to win on anything that drops.

Anyways, can be a tough grind still got a couple days to go though! So don't lose hope!

I had run this event some 150+ times. Being a healer means it's easier to get into groups once your summon is gone for the day, since guildmates and such need you, plus running it with alts, etc. According to the armory, this has a 1-2% drop rate.

That said, I've only seen this mount drop twice. I won it the first time it dropped, and on my birthday, no less. I was pretty thrilled to say the least. :)

Hopefully I don't get rated down for admitting I won the reins, as most other posts where people admit they won it are getting rated down into a hole in the ground.

This was my first year actualy participating in Hallow's End since release date of wow.
Due to computer problems every year i have not been able to run HH or play at all.
First drop of the run and first time ever running it i won the reins, now if that isent luck i dont know what is.

At exalted, the price (last time I remember) was 700g. To me that is completely outrageous, as even though it scales to riding, buying a rare gryphon and an epic gryphon from https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/npc=20510 in Wildhammer Stronghold, Shadowmoon Valley only costs 300g total. So in WoW reality you are paying an extra 400g at least for no advantage.

One rather annoying thing about this mount is the green smoke that trails it body (not the flames on the feet).
It's all right when you are riding on the ground, but when you are flying the smoke blows into the screen, giving the screen a flicking appearance.

Unfortunately, despite what others write here, there is not an increase in the droprate for the mount. It is all just a coincidence that a few people have seen it drop several times.

I am now up to 77 kills on Headless Horseman and I have not yet seen "The Horseman's Reins"

The helm dropped for the first time just a few runs ago...

Don't know if it has been mentioned before but most of the items seems to be on diffrent loottables.
I've seen pet, sword, ring and broom drop at the same time.

This is a rare mount that drops from the HH (Headless Horseman) It changes on riding skill, which meens if u have normal flyer training it goes at 60% ground speed and 150% flight, as for epic flyer it transforms from 60% ground 150%flight to a 100% ground 280% flying mount. It is very cool and I would love to get one. The drop rate is insanely low and i wish this mount would drop!

With the reported drop rate of .3% last year and currently .4% drop rate listed this year make the waste of time vs. chance of getting mount very lopsided.

Basically, if you get the squishy pet, don't bother with making the long run to SM, enduring the mush pit, getting into a group and getting nothing in return. Mount is nice, but not worth the time nor effort to get it by itself.

Just one small comment which may or may not have been posted already:

To change from ground to flying mount you first have to dismount and mount again.
So do NOT jump off of Krasus' Landing before you did this or you will really hurt yourself. =P

I did get the mount last night and it truely is one of the best mount designs in WoW, imho. For those still farming it: Good luck!

Edit on the droprate: The competition for Wowhead (i.e. Thottbot) puts the droprate for this at 0.1%. Wow Armory puts the droprate at 1 - 2%. So I guess it'll be somewhere in between those numbers.

Ok, thought I would throw in my experiences in trying for this mount.

In 2008, I ran HH everyday with three 70’s for an approximate number of summons (some ninja logs, some with extra summons) at 3 x 65 = 195.
In that time I saw ZERO Mounts (where statistically I should have seen ~2)

So far in 2009:
Sunday: 20 Summons ( 4 toons)
Monday: 20 Summons
Tuesday: 20 Summons
Wednesday: 20 Summons
Thursday: 20 Summons: 2 mounts dropped, rolled 2nd on each. (my ‘no mount curse’ is broken!)
Friday: 20 Summons
Saturday: 25 Summons (leveled my mage to 75)
Sunday: 25 Summons
Monday 25 Summons: 1 mount dropped, my Paladin wins with a Need roll of 94 HOORAY!

A total of ~ 540 summons where required for me to acquire this mount. Statistically I should have seen 5 mounts drop, but I only saw three, but obviously I was unlucky in droprate, but lucky enough to offset that with a lucky roll.

So have fun crunching those numbers. I will likely keep summoning each day, as statistically I should see one more mount before the end of the event. I will likely save my summons for my guild, or be in party with my wife to roll on and give her the mount if I win.

For those hoping to get this on a particular toon, I wish you the best of luck. The odds are not in your favor. I was lucky in that of my 5 toons farming for this, one of my top two choices actually got the mount. If you have several toons, the brute force method I have employed seems to work as long as you use all summons everyday. Stay strong, be diligent, you will likely be rewarded.

After 2 years doing this event, kindda of 430 runs (estimated) it droped!

I lost the roll, rolling 64 against a 82.

Insteresting to mention that the drop rate has updated. After 44.000 kills 139 mounts droped, being 0.3% drop.

Blizzard, you are ridiculous, you put 1-2% drop on your wowgarbagearmory, which is a big bull @#$%!

Is the drop rate really still 0.3-0.4%? I've heard over and over how no one has seen it drop in 3 years of running it.

This year, one of my family members won it. Then I saw it drop last night (did not win it). And saw it again this morning and DID end up with it. This was my first year running Headless Horseman and I only did it once a day on one toon. Is this really a string of luck or are they dropping a little bit more than prior years? (I'm really shocked I saw it at all because after running Brewfest several times a day, every day, I didn't see a single mount drop at all)

That's not how it reads to me, it sounds like instead of having at least one chance per party member, you get ONE chance and ONE chance ONLY per day.

True, however, keep in mind that this is ONE chance ONLY per day that you DON'T have to worry about losing on the roll. Even if this hadn't changed, I'd still go to SM with my pally alone and be very satisfied to have just 1 kill per day during Hallow's End and not risk leaving there disappointed if the mount had dropped and I hadn't win the roll.

I got it on my first try on the first day of the event. I didn't even realize just what I had at first. It was the next day before I found out that it could fly. Now I've really gotta save up for that epic flying skill.

To those who want to farm this on classic realms.
if you go ahead and do the faction village HH invasion daily to put out the fires 赶快灭火！ / "放火过来吧！" to lure him down and kill him.
after picking up the pumpkin daily quest where his corpse is you can get a follow up 1 time quest 无头骑士
this quest allows you to do an additional summon of the boss ontop of the daily quest kill 召唤无头骑士 to summon him.

note. if you did this during tbc i dont think you can pick the quest up again

I have 8 days left, and ive done a total of about 250 kills. More kills to come.
