I'm loving all of these items with names related to lore. Not enough gold text items though.
It seems blizzard really likes armor reduction and haste rating, I can imagine geared out dps classes will have quite some armor penetration and attack speed.
Boby. a good warrior/paladin has 15000-20000 armor
The previous armor calculations are not correct to consider an increase in damage. The armor penetration on this ring will yield slightly less than 1.0% damage increase for typical raid-boss armor levels. As the armor of the boss increases, the effect will slightly decrease, but will be greater than 0.75% for most bosses.
Consider a mob with approx 25% mitigation (A much more reasonable number for a debuffed raid boss). Lets round his armor to 3500, which yields an exact mitigation of 24.89% for a L70 player. A unmitigated swing of 100 will hit this boss for 75.10 damage. Reducing his armor by 126 will put him at 3374 AC, for 24.22% mitigation. The same hit will now deal 75.78 damage. Taking the difference and dividing by the base, we find that melee damage has increased by 0.90%, just shy of one percent.
As I mentioned, as armor increases, the value of this effect slightly decreases. For a mob with a base mitigation of 35% (approx 5700 AC), the effect of the this armor penetration would be 0.78%
This is the best rogue ring in the game as of right now
As of 3.0.2 shadowpanther has downgraded this to the equivalent of
Signet of Primal Wrath
, well below the
Id Say It Drops From Illidan Cuz Of The Ring's Name "Stormrage" .. So From Illidan Stormrage In Black Temple
I wonder how much of an effect a 126 armor-reduction actually has.
Taking off anything less then 500 armor at level 70 from cloth or (scaled) more from leather/chain/plate is a joke. if this effect stacked, say 4 times, it would make some sense.

A Subletly rogue with this is sort of imba, the talent that causes your attacks to ignore armor stacked with this is great.
Id say hunter fury war or rogue ring, But thats my oppinion
Where does this drop?
I am a Rogue and i do think hunters might be able to get more use out of it, i would pass this to a hunter that had earned it. but if a Rogue it out dpsin a ^&*!@#$, then for god sake give it to the rogue, but please stop just saying one class deserves it for being "that class" It should always be given to person who has earned it, and gets
good use out of it
whoever lacks +hit % should get this ring :)
This is a ring for all melee dps.
Adding this to last comment. Shammy item too.
Melee classes lacking +hit, hasnt played a hunter to raiding capacity.
Melee dps - VIABLE melee dps, not pvp ms warrior or ret pally - has a hit rating penalty of 24% from dual wielding.
Meaning, if fury warriors / rogues didn't have enough hit rating (the min. standard is 210+ for both) then their dps suffers greatly because 7% base chance to miss on boss mob stacks on TOP Of that 25.5% to create whopping 32.5% chance to miss.
Hunters, however, do not suffer the same 24% penalty from dual wielding.
It should be noted that against the same-level non-special NPC's the base miss rate is 5% and each level adds 1%, and each point of defense adds 0.04%.
Skull mobs are 3 levels (meaning 15 more defense points) higher than max lvl of 70, meaning the miss rate of 3.6% is added to that 5% to make the total miss rate of 8.6%.
Looking at how hit ratings are translated into % hit, you only need 139 hit rating at most for non survival spec, and 89 for survival spec with surefooted.
Now, considering that you'll be in good mix of tier 5 and most of the quality mail epics already have decent amount of hit rating, the % chance of hunters missing is NEVER EVER close to the % chance of melee class missing with equivalent hit rating.
32.5% vs. 8.6%. Please do the math.
Having said that, this ring's value goes up for hunters rapidly as they have more tier 6 than tier 5. But if your gear is falling more towards tier 5, then you should pass it until you start missing that 130+ hit rating cap by a significant margin.
It's never as simple as "this is so and so's item". You look at your own talent spec, itemization, then decide accordingly which item is best for you.
Logically speaking, something with this much hit rating obviously favors rogue / fury warrior for most guilds that will kill illidan for the first time - simply because they get more out of stacking hit rating.
But truthfully, if hunters with higher dkp want to role on it, then ppl shouldnt be able to say anything.
Well honestly, this is more meant for rogues or fury warrios imo because. If you're killing Illidan in BT and you're a hunter, I really couldn't believe that you had not maxed out your hit. As rogues and warriors need almost three times as much hit as hunters for the hit cap, I (yeah ME) would personally give this rather to a melee dps class than a hunter, but yeah, I'm not denying this is a good ring for a hunter.
If you all !@#$% so much about it, might aswell give it to a feral druid then (o_O)
Why couldn't a Kittycat druid use this item *sigh*
as far as i know, the person with the highest DKP/roll gets it anyway, not matter how much you %^&*! about it. . .
This is the %^&* for a warlock or other spellcaster period
While comparing rogues and fury warriors, dont forget enhancment shamans who will make both of you really shine.
And yes, im one of the kind, and yes, i have killed Illidan - it is a viable raid spec if played good.
yeah because i love missing my arrows just as much as you love missing your melee hits.
stop being *!@#$%^s.
I think hunters need hit rating,. they just dont need quite as much as warriors or rogues. This is rightfully a hunter ring also.
id also like to point out that the armor reduc would stack with all the armor reduction on the gronnn stalker set. (which you would have if you managed to get this ring)
Quoting many posters: "Who deals more damage has earned it and should get it"
WTF? Are you joking, did you say that without thinking or are you noobs? (I prefer not to know the answer to that question).
By the point when 25 people are raiding BT, you can assume they know how to play their characters and take the most of their resources. If you put a bit of thought on it, you'll realize that the ones doing less (no matter if they are dps doing dmg, or healers doing heal, or tanks just enduring) is presumably lacking resources.
At this point, level cap reached long ago, talents optimized (no matter how you play or how you're specced, it's important that you're specced in a way that works well with your gameplay: ie, if you're a swords rogue and you're DWing two swords, you shouldn't have a mutilate spec (requires daggers!)), always "flasked" (at least, I hope you are), the main way to widden your resources is equipment.
From this leads that the ones dealing most damage on each fight are probably the ones that are better equiped. Equipment should go to whoever can take the most of it, and the philosophy of "you earn it by already having good equipment" becomes absurd at this point. Fortunatelly, DKP systems tend to prevent this situation: if a player is unleashing a vastly higher ammount of dmg than another damage dealer, its most likely because (s)he spent a lot of DKP recently on some good equipment (maybe even in the same run), so the players that are a bit behind will now be on the top of the DKP ranking, getting priority (if you use hard-dkp), better chance (for roll + DKP system) or more bidding margin (if you use a bidding system, which I don't like at all, but that's out of topic here) to get the loot.
I also want to point out something about hunters. I really believe Blizzard should have made a better and cleaner design of the class: they rely on both standard weapon damage (which is influenced by combat stats) and on spell damage (aimed shot, stings, etc), impulsing them to "fight" for almost every loot in the whole game: hunters can make use of almost everything, that's not their fault, its Blizzard's. However, hunters should use as much common sense as any other class: ie: if a hunter is already on his/her cap of +hit rating, and there is somebody in the raid group who is far behind the cap, then s/he should yield this ring to that person (it might even be another hunter!), not for being or not being a hunter, but just for really needing it. It actually comes to a need/greed scenario, only at this point greed is not for money but just for uber stat values, even when these scores go beyond of what's relevant.
Finally: to whom the ring goes? It depends, on each ocasion, on the Raid Leader, Master Looter, Guild Rules and DKP scores. Fortunatelly, it's not likely that those people ommitting this and just arguing "it is for " will ever reach BT
I know a lot of people enjoy shedding knowledge on things they don't have, but, since I have this ring, I thought I'd offer my thoughts on it.
The thing about this ring is that, even though it does indeed lack critical bonuses through rating or agility, the Overall DPS/AEP of the ring is extremely high.
Scroll down to finger)
The specific reason I wanted the ring (badly) was because I do not only wear the ring at all times in PvE, but also at all times in PvP. I never remove this ring from my character. Why? well I wear about 332 resilience in my 2v2 and 3v3, and to balance out my stats I wear 115 hit rating in total, between S3 and a few PvE items. (Shadowmaster's boots, Stormrage ring, Tsunami talisman and Syphon of the Nathrezim are my four PvE epics worn in arena)
Also, consider another aspect of PvP for us rogues lately: we don't exactly use lethality anymore. I was 4/31/26 until I hit 2071 in 2v2, and this week I'm now 0/20/41 at 2118. Due to the fact I do not use lethality, AP scales much better than Crit with my damage. (due to the fact my spec's focus is really white damage, in truth)
So, in conclusion, this ring is far more fitting for Rogues of today than many people could have foreseen. I, for one, did not forsee losing Lethality permanently in S3. Nope, didn't see that coming.
(I'm not saying you can't spec into it, I just don't)
In PvE, as a Rogue, the best items are (Usually) the ones with the highest quantity of hit rating. This rule is old, I know, but it is true. Why? because against bosses we need approximately 345 or 350 hit rating to *NOT* miss our white attacks. (In addition to precision) Is this worth it? to stack hit so high? well, when you're doing it with items such as this ring, YES. It is. No questions asked.
Some might say "You don't need that much hit on bosses." Unfortunately, you do. Even with food buff putting me around 333 hit rating, I still miss white attacks every so often, which is a small, but important drop in DPS. As soon as I pick up my Illidan blindfold, I'll be sitting around 344 unbuffed. :D woot
Anyway, thats all.
can i get a screenshot?
This ring is buttsex. The good kind, not the evil kind. Psyche, I love you gay dudes. Oh *!@#, I didn't mean like that. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
/tar usebox /agree
I've just noticed that there isn't anyone saying anything about Ret pallies. A ret pally properly geared with a few of these armor ignore stuff, not to mention the Executioner enchant, can totally make a cloth and a mail wearer look squishy. And possibly a few plate wearers too!
Any reason why we're leaving out the pallies? :(
first of all, it gets rather annoying to look for info about an item, any item, then find a debate on WHO gets to roll. second, to the person who said that the person who does the most dps deserves this ring.... wtf? If they are doing more dps, then it might have something to do with them being better geared, not more worthy. If you are in a guild that understands teamwork, this will be a given, and the person who actually needs the upgrade will receive it. Besides any dps that is more concerned with how much damgae he can do, as opposed to having a successful raid, doesn't deserve it. If you only care about flexing your virtual nuts, go back to Goldshire, and quit causing wipes in raids, and dumb arguments in THOTT.
