the only reasons i see someone would use this is for higher alchmey skill or if someone has transmute mastery he could produce more than one primal earth out of 1 fire. though even if there will be 5 primal earth it would still be cheaper then the actual primal fire.

Does anyone know if this recipe is supposed to be available from the Mag'har (the Horde's faction in Nagarand)? Every other reward from the two factions is equivalent, except the Mag'har give a shoulder piece and the Kurenai give this recipe...

I went to Nagrand and found Mag'har. But I can't speak with him... do i have to do something before hand or do i need a certain rep before he sells the recipe?

What in the world is this used in? And why would anyone spend all time it takes to get revered and buy a recipe for something you can get just by farming outland for awhile? Is it cause only miners can get the motes for fire or something? Personally I would rather as a bsmith in guild to farm for me if thats the case and give him some gold for his time.

this really sucks... Earth are like 6 g on my server and fire are worth much more

I do most of my farming for motes on the elemental plateau in Nagrand, and from the drop rates there I can see a good reason for this recipe. Motes of Fire drop at nearly 40%, while Motes of Earth are at around 20-25%. So I can see this as saving me a lot of time in general grinding. Of course if I had another way to get earth motes, through mining or whatever it might be different, but I'm an herb/alchemist.

Due to Blizzard's new "Learn the recipe by chance while making something else" system, this recipe becomes useful in completing a full circle transmute of primals. Fire -> Earth -> Water -> Air -> Fire. For someone who has no immediate need of specific primals, they can transmute a single one once a day for as long as they'd like. Although this is a fairly slow method, it only requires mats the first time.

So a person could in theory, log on to their alchemist once a day, spend 10 seconds transmuting a primal, and go on to doing whatever else they wanted to. Hopefully, learning a new transmute or potion.

Saddest part is if you go out behind Telaar the earth elementals drop them at a fair rate. This transmute deemed completely worthless.

All the basic elemental primal transmutes are circular: Air -> Fire -> Earth -> Water -> Air.

If you're a master transmuter and possess all of these transmutes, you can perform 4 transmutes on the same beginning primal and end up where you started. In the process you have 4 chances to learn new transmutes or get extra primals. This is at no risk of losing your beginning primal.

So as far as game economics go, there's one good reason for this transmute to exist. And from a game lore perspective, it makes sense that each element can transmute to one other; kinda like a rock/paper/scissors sort of thing.
