In Wrath of the Lich King raiding your raid composition plays a big part in your raid's success. How you divide your 25 players into 5-person groups within the raid no longer makes as big of a difference as it did in the past, instead focusing on shared raid buffs usually provided by multiple classes, allowing more flexibility in raid composition. In this guide we will talk about how to set up your 25-person raid for maximum performance with the players you have.
Most classes and talent specializations in Wrath of the Lich King Classic provide buffs for their raid or debuffs to enemies, these are often shared between classes and do not stack with each other. There are also a select few abilities that are party-wide, not raid-wide, only affecting the 5 players in the same group as the caster.
These buffs and debuffs are massively varied in both use and duration, with spells like
lasting an hour, often only being refreshed if someone in the raid dies, buffs like
being short duration, only applied and refreshed during combat, and others like
always being up if you are in range. Because of the massive variation in application, some of the abilities are worth bringing multiple people to apply the same ability with a different name.
We will talk about what each class and talent specialization provides and who benefits from it. Then we will look at an example raid group and decide how to arrange the groups. Each raid group and each encounter is unique, so understanding who benefits from what and why you group players a certain way is important so that you can adapt to different circumstances.
Wowhead's Raid Composition Tool
Wowhead's raid composition tool allows you to plan and share your raid composition, complete with a list of buffs, debuffs, and utility options from all the classes and specs in your group. When you drag and drop a spec into the tool, the URL will update so your composition is automatically saved.

Class Buffs and Benefits in WotLK Raids
In this section we will talk about each class and spec, what buffs they provide, and which other classes benefit from those buffs or share them. In Wrath of the Lich King raiding, having a balanced composition with a variety of useful buffs and debuffs leads to an overall high performance raid. Classes and specializations with lower individual damage output still provide valuable buffs and debuffs that often contribute more to a raid than a class and specialization that only provides high individual damage output.
战士
Warriors are in an unfortunate spot here, providing no unique or improved buffs, as well as often not having an easier time applying their buffs.
remains the best way to apply the 20% armor reduction debuff, even if it takes some time for the Warrior to apply all 5 stacks.
is a semi-unique raid buff, that while provided elsewhere, is the best possible version of the buff.
Almost all of a Warriors raid utility is aimed towards improving physical DPS, or decreasing enemy DPS, and because of this they become more valuable in physical heavy raid compositions.
All Specs
and
are raid-wide buffs available to all Warriors, lasting 2-minutes and giving everyone within 30-yards a bonus to Attack Power and Health respectively. These are both buffed by the talent
from the Fury tree.
is shared with
and they both give the same amount of Attack Power.
is shared with
, giving drastically more health and not requiring a specific Warlock pet to get.
reduces the targets armor by 4%, stacking up to 5 times for a total of 20% and is available to all Warriors, but generally both Arms and Fury Warriors will want to avoid spending Rage and global cooldowns casting
. The armor reduction debuff is also provided by both Rogues and Beast Mastery Hunters with
蠕虫
's. While
蠕虫
's are generally not something you'll see in raids, Rogues are. Even so, this debuff is best applied by Warriors no matter what spec, losing less than a Rogue would and multiple Warriors can contribute to reaching 5 stacks faster.
reduces the Melee Attack Power of all enemies within 10-yards for 30 seconds, shared with
from Feral Druids,
辩护
from Paladins and
from Warlocks. When talented, all of these spells reduce Melee Attack Power by the same amount, but
requires one cast per enemy and
辩护
can only hit a maximum of 4 targets at once,
and
will be the best way to apply this to very large packs of enemies.
Protection
is one of the main attacks used by Protection Warriors and applies a stack of
with each hit, easily and passively applying the 5 stacks you need for the maximum effect.
together with
reduces enemies attack speed by 20%, shared with
and
,
and
.
is already a base part of a Protection Warriors rotation, as well as being an instant area-of-effect version, making it easily the best way to apply this debuff.
Arms
increases all physical damage a target takes and is applied passively by Arms Warriors as long as
or
is active, which they should always be. Unfortunately, this is shared with Combat Rogues
, having the same effect as well as being applied equally passively.
increases the Bleed damage a target takes and is also applied passively everytime an Arms Warrior crits. This debuff lasts for 1-minute meaning after the first application it will always be reapplied before it falls off again. This debuff is also applied by Feral Druids as a part of their basic rotation, with
and
both applying the same effect.
Fury
passively increases the ranged and melee critical hit chance of everyone within 100-yards of the Fury Warrior. This is only shared with
from Feral Druids. Both buffs are provided passively, with neither being better than the other. Unfortunately for Warriors most Raids will likely bring at least one Feral Druid, so this is unlikely to be needed.
圣骑士
Paladins remain an integral part of any raid, providing numerous buffs exclusive to the class. A lot of these buffs have multiple variants, adding value to bringing multiple Paladins, even if they are the same spec.
Protection Paladins provide several defensive boosts, with
also being reachable as Holy. Retribution also brings an incredibly high amount of raid buff coverage, despite not having any unique buffs.
All Specs
,
, and
are provided by any Paladin, giving a 30-minute buff to all players of the targeted class. These are very useful in that if you are limited on how many Paladins your raid has, you can pick and choose what buff to give each class based on their needs and wants.
an Attack Power buff shared with Warriors
and when untalented or combined with their respective talents,
and
, they give the same amount of Attack Power.
is a Mana Regeneration buff shared with Shamans
and when untalented or combined with their respective talents,
and
, they give the same amount of Mana Per 5.
increases all primary stats by 10% and is a buff unique to Paladins. This is a fantastic buff and incredibly useful for every class and spec.
,
,
,
, and
are Auras provided by any Paladin, giving mostly unique but situational buffs passively to raid members within 40-yards of the caster.
is a raid-wide Armor buff, not shared with any classes. Retribution/Protection Paladins will generally keep this active as their first choice of Aura. Protection Paladins can also spec into
, increasing the Armor provided as well as giving a bonus to healing received, shared with
from Restoration Druids
deals damage to anyone attacking a buffed player, similar to
but stacking with each other. This will generally be the second choice Aura for Retribution Paladins.
reduces the pushback when taking damage while casting. This stacks with pushback protection talents like
and
and Holy Paladins can grab
to further improve this effect, as well as reducing the duration of silences and interrupts for their party.
,
,
are all very niche, situational Auras that will see very little use in Wrath of the Lich King Classic. Some boss fights, like
萨菲隆
make it worth using a Resistance Aura, but these fights are few and far between.
and
do not stack with the Shaman totems
and
respectively.
and
审判
are debuffs unique to Paladins, restoring either Mana or Health to players attacking the debuffed target. These effects stack with all other Mana or Health restoring effects and because of this are incredibly valuable in any raid.
is especially needed by many classes in the game to sustain their Mana on longer fights.
makes a raid member temporarily immune to Physical damage, giving them a get out of jail free card for a lot of bad situations.
Protection
/
is a talented buff, reducing damage taken by 3%, increasing Strength and Stamina by 10%, and restoring Mana whenever the target blocks, parries or dodges a melee attack. The damage reduction doesn't stack with
or
, while the Strength and Stamina increases don't stack with
. This is primarily a buff for Protection Paladins to keep their Mana high while tanking.
reduces enemies attack speed by 20% when hit by a Judgement spell. This is passively applied by Protection Paladins on a single target just by doing their rotation, but is very difficult to maintain on multiple targets. This is shared with
with
,
with
, and
.
is already a base part of a Protection Warriors rotation, as well as being an instant area-of-effect version, making it easily the best way to apply this debuff to multiple targets.
and
allow a Paladin to redirect 30% of the raids damage to themselves and reduces the damage taken by the raid by 20% for 6 seconds. This is one of the best raid-wide defensive cooldowns in WotLK and can be a life saver.
Retribution
increases the damage caused by anyone affected by a Retribution Paladins Auras. This buff is shared with
from Beast Mastery Hunters and
from Arcane Mages. Beast Mastery Hunters are very rare in WotLK raiding, and Mages may want to stop playing Arcane in later Phases, making
one of the best ways to apply this buff.
increases the Haste of anyone affected by a Retribution Paladins Auras. This buff is shared with
from Balance Druids, with neither being better or easier than the other.
increases the raids critical chance against targets hit by a Retribution Paladins Judgement spells. This buff is shared with Assassination Rogues
and Elemental Shamans
. Retribution Paladins are one of the worst classes to apply this buff, as
can easily be on multiple targets at once using
刀扇
, and
is a raid-buff instead of a target debuff.
辩护
reduces the Melee Attack Power of all enemies hit by a Retribution Paladins damaging
attacks
. This does not include spells like
, limiting its AoE potential to 4-targets using
神圣风暴
. This debuff is shared with
from Feral Druids,
from Warriors and
from Warlocks. When talented, all of these spells reduce Melee Attack Power by the same amount, but
requires one cast per enemy and
辩护
can only hit a maximum of 4 targets at once,
and
will be the best way to apply this to very large packs of enemies.
applies the highly coveted
恢复
to 10 raid-members whenever a Retribution Paladin uses a Judgement spell. This is shared with
from Survival Hunters,
from Frost Mages,
from Shadow Priests, and
from Destruction Warlocks. Even though
恢复
doesn't stack on the same target, you want multiple classes that can apply this to make sure it has the highest uptime you can get on as many players as possible, and Retribution Paladins are one of the better classes to apply this.
猎人
Hunters don't provide much in the way of raid buffs or debuffs, instead focusing very heavily on being a damage dealer and crowd controller above all else.
All Specs
reduces an enemies chance to hit with melee and ranged attacks. This debuff is shared with
from Balance Druids. Generally this debuff is rarely needed in raids, but Balance Druids will generally be applying it with their rotation by default anyway, so
will rarely ever be used.
误导
allows a Hunter to redirect their threat to a target for 4 seconds. This can be used to pull a target from far away and have it run directly to a tank, or to give a tank a much needed threat increase on pull. This is incredibly useful and has a lot of odd niches.
is an Armor reduction debuff applied by a
巨蜂
pet. This debuff is shared with
from Warlocks and
from Druids.
will generally be kept up by a Balance Druid for
, meaning it is very rarely useful to bring a
巨蜂
instead of any other pet.
Survival
applies the highly coveted
恢复
to 10 raid-members whenever a Survival Hunter crits with
,
, or
. This is shared with
from Retribution Paladins,
from Frost Mages,
from Shadow Priests, and
from Destruction Warlocks. Even though
恢复
doesn't stack on the same target, you want multiple classes that can apply this to make sure it has the highest uptime you can get on as many players as possible, and Survival Hunters are one of the better classes to apply this.
Marksmanship
increases the Attack Power of all raid members within 100-yards. This is shared with
from Blood Death Knights and
from Enhancement Shamans, with all three being effectively identical.
Beast Mastery
increases the damage caused by everyone in the raid. This buff is shared with
from Retribution Paladins and
from Arcane Mages. Beast Mastery Hunters are very rare in WotLK raiding, making the other two versions the more common ones.
is an armor reduction debuff, applied by
蠕虫
pets and is shared with
and
. If you are already bringing a Beast Mastery Hunter this debuff is worth bringing a
蠕虫
, otherwise it is covered easily by the other two classes.
is a debuff, increasing Bleed damage taken by the target for 12-seconds, applied by
裂蹄牛
pets. This is strictly a worse version of
,
, and
, that will always be applied to the target if your raid uses Bleeds.
潜行者
Like most physical DPS classes, Rogues don't offer much raid support, but what they do offer is fantastic.
嫁祸诀窍
is a beefy version of
误导
but with a damage boost component, making it incredibly strong as an offensive cooldown.
is the most accessible and common way to apply the 3% crit debuff to multiple enemies, making it a very strong option.
All Specs
嫁祸诀窍
works similarly to
误导
, allowing a Rogue to redirect threat to a target for 6 seconds, but with one key difference.
嫁祸诀窍
increases the damage the target deals by 15% for the duration, giving a significant damage boost to a single target. Because of this one difference, this is most often used as a DPS increase for the raid, instead of a threat increase for the tank.
玄秘掌
reduces the targets armor by 20%, lasting longer for each combo point used. This debuff is shared with
from Warriors and Beast Mastery Hunters with
蠕虫
pets. While
蠕虫
's are generally not something you'll see in raids, Warriors are. This debuff is best applied by Warriors no matter what spec, losing less than a Rogue would and multiple Warriors can contribute to reaching 5 stacks faster.
Combat
increases all physical damage a target takes and is applied to all poisoned targets. This debuff is shared with
from Arms Warriors, having the same effect as well as being applied equally passively.
Assassination
increases the raids critical chance against targets poisoned by an Assassination Rogue. This debuff is shared with
from Retribution Paladins and
from Elemental Shamans. Assassination Rogues are one of the best classes to apply this buff, easily able to debuff multiple targets at once using
刀扇
.
is a raid-wide buff instead of a debuff, ultimately making it the best of the three if you do bring an Elemental Shaman.
牧师
No raid will want to be without a single Priest, losing several fantastic raid buffs in
,
, and
. These buffs are fantastic set and forget buffs that benefit most players in the raid to at least some extent.
Discipline Priests are a staple of WotLK healing, being the only healer focused primarily on preventative healing with absorption spells. They also offer several defensive buffs including
and
. Holy Priests unfortunately don't provide much that Discipline doesn't already, but because of how Discipline works, you will rarely want 2 of them in a raid.
Shadow Priest brings decent support with them into raids, but nothing that isn't already covered by other classes that you would want to bring for better buff coverage.
All Specs
and
are unique to Priests and increase the Stamina of the raid. This is a fantastic buff that all raids will want to have around if possible.
increases the Spirit of all raid members. This buff is shared with
from Affliction Warlocks, but providing more Spirit.
increases the Shadow resistance of all raid members. This buff is shared with
from Paladins, but because they can only have one Aura active at a time, this is generally the superior version.
希望象征
and
神圣赞美诗
are channeled raid-wide spells. These spells hit 3 players every 2 seconds for 8 seconds, prioritizing the players with the lowest Mana or Health respectively. These are unique to Priests and can be incredibly valuable for raids.
Discipline
能量灌注
increases the cast speed and reduces the mana cost of a single players spells for 15 seconds. This is a big offensive cooldown unique to Priests that will drastically boost a players burst window. This doesn't stack with all buffs, for example
冰冷血脉
, limiting the potential targets.
reduces the damage taken by all raid members. This is applied to everyone when the Discipline Priest casts
and lasts for 1 minute, giving it effectively 100% uptime. The damage reduction is shared with
from Protection Warriors and
from Protection Paladins.
restores mana, rage, energy or runic power to targets that take enough damage to break
. This is a unique buff, similar to
from Restoration Druids, but they both work together.
Holy
reduces the physical damage taken by targets that are critically healed by Priests with this talent. This buff is shared with
from Restoration Shamans, and both are passively applied by simply healing.
Shadow
is applied passively with the normal Shadow Priest Rotation, increasing the raids chance to hit with spells by 3%. This debuff is shared with
from Balance Druids, but because it is applied passively instead of taking a global cooldown it is the preferable way to apply this debuff.
applies the highly coveted
恢复
to 10 raid-members whenever a target with
is hit by
. This is shared with
from Retribution Paladins,
from Frost Mages,
from Survival Hunters, and
from Destruction Warlocks. Even though
恢复
doesn't stack on the same target, you want multiple classes that can apply this to make sure it has the highest uptime you can get on as many players as possible, and Shadow Priests are one of the better classes to apply this.
死亡骑士
Death Knights are one of the few classes that most raids will want to bring 3 of, one of each spec. The debuffs they provide are spreadable with
血液沸腾
, giving them easy access to some of the only area-of-effect versions of debuffs, like
. Not only does each spec bring their own useful buffs, they are also all very solid in their respective roles, making them easy additions.
The buffs and debuffs provided by Death Knights are fantastic for all roles, tanks, healers, physical DPS, and caster DPS.
All Specs
increases the raids Strength and Agility for 2 minutes. This is shared with
from Shamans. Death Knights will always want to cast this, even if they have
, because
also gives them runic power.
Blood
increases the Attack Power of all raid members within 100-yards. This is shared with
from Marksmanship Hunters and
from Enhancement Shamans, with all three being effectively identical.
buffs a single player, increasing their physical damage dealt by 20% but drains their health every second. This is unique to Blood Death Knights and can be a very strong raid DPS boost during burst phases.
Frost
reduces enemies attack speed by 20% when they are affected by
. This is shared with
with
,
, and
.
is already a base part of a Protection Warriors rotation, as well as being an instant area-of-effect version, making it easily the best way to apply this debuff to multiple targets, but combined with
血液沸腾
, this debuff can easily be spread to a lot of targets.
increases the melee haste of raid members by 20%. This buff is only shared with
风怒图腾
with
from Enhancement Shamans, but is provided fully passively, making it the better option.
together with
reduces enemies attack speed by 20%. This debuff is shared with
with
,
and
.
is already a base part of a Protection Warriors rotation, as well as being an instant area-of-effect version, making it easily the best way to apply this debuff, but combined with
血液沸腾
, this debuff can easily be spread to a lot of targets.
Unholy
increases a targets magic damage taken by 13% as long as they are affected by
or
. This debuff is shared with
from Balance Druids and
from Warlocks. When combined with
血液沸腾
this becomes the only area-of-effect application of this debuff and easily the most valuable version because of it.
萨满祭司
Shamans are the most desirable class to bring to a raid, providing great versions of several important buffs. They are also one of the only classes in the game to still have several unique buffs, including
, which every caster and healer will always want to have active. There also isn't a single raid group out there that will ever
choose
to forego
嗜血
/
英勇
.
Because of the way Totems work, most raids will generally want to bring two Shamans. Typically one Restoration and one Enhancement, covering most of the Totems easily.
Unfortunately while Elemental Shamans bring several great buffs to the table, most raid groups will be able to cover them elsewhere so they will be wasted.
All Specs
嗜血
/
英勇
increases the raids Haste by 30% for 40 seconds. This is why Shamans have a permanent spot in every single raid group. This buff is unique to Shamans in WoTLK and is the single biggest raid DPS increase available. While you only need one Shaman to blanket the entire raid with this, having two Shamans, casting this sequentially can contribute to getting temporary pets like
暗影魔
buffed with
嗜血
as well as the pets owner.
increases the raids Strength and Agility while placed. This is shared with
from Death Knights.
increases the raids Armor while placed. This is a unique buff to Shamans and is typically placed when you bring two.
战栗图腾
is a party-wide Totem, breaking Fear, Charm, and Sleep on all party members every 3 seconds. This is a very unique strength for Shamans, allowing them to passively break certain CC even while affected by it. Using this in a Healer or Tank party can be a life saver for raids.
increases the Spell Power of all raid members. This buff is shared with
from Demonology Warlocks and
from Elemental.
is the weakest of the three Spell Power buffs, but does not require any specific talent spec and can be placed by any Shaman.
is a Mana Regeneration buff shared with Paladins
and when untalented or combined with their respective talents,
, and
they give the same amount of Mana Per 5.
is a Health regeneration buff unique to Shamans. While the actual Health restored is often negligible, this can be used if there are multiple Shamans in the same raid.
is a party-wide Disease and Poison cleanse, removing one of each from every party member within range every 3 seconds. This can be used alongside other dispels and is a fantastic way to passively cure Disease and Poison debuffs, both of which are fairly common in WotLK raiding.
is a raid-wide 5% Spell Haste boost that is exclusive to Shamans. This buff will always be sought after by any raid, adding to the usefulness of the class.
is a party-wide Totem that will absorb the next single target harmful spell cast at a party member. This may have rare niche uses in WotLK and can be used to protect a tank if they share a party.
,
, and
are all very niche, situational Totems that will see very little use in Wrath of the Lich King Classic. Some boss fights, like
萨菲隆
can make it worth using a Resistance Totem, but these fights are few and far between. It is also important to keep in mind that you will lose one of your four Totems in order to place a Resistance Totem, potentially costing your raid a more important support buff.
and
do not stack with the Paladin Auras
and
respectively.
Enhancement
increases the Attack Power of all raid members within 100-yards. This is shared with
from Marksmanship Hunters and
from Blood Death Knights, with all three being effectively identical.
风怒图腾
together with
increase the melee haste of raid members by 20%. This buff is only shared with
from Frost Death Knights.
provides this buff to everyone within range passively, without requiring a Totem to be placed, making it the better of the two.
Elemental
increases the raids critical strike chance by 3% against enemies and increasing the Spell Power of all raid members within 40-yards of the Totem. The critical chance is shared with Assassination Rogues
and Retribution Paladins
, while the Spell Power is shared with
from Demonology Warlocks and
. The Spell Power bonus from
is significantly stronger than
and for a large portion of early WotLK raiding will be stronger than
. All of this together makes this one of the best ways to apply these buffs, but unfortunately Elemental Shamans may be one of the rarer specs in WotLK raids.
gives all raid members within 100-yards 5% spell critical chance. This buff is shared with
枭兽形态
from Balance Druids. You generally always want to bring a Balance Druid, so they will be the best source of this buff.
Restoration
reduces the physical damage taken by targets that are critically healed by Restoration Shamans. This buff is shared with
from Priests, and both are passively applied by simply healing.
法师
While Mages don't bring much unique in the form of raid buffs, every raid wants
, as well as the other aspects brought by mages, namely their significant crowd control options. Individual players will also always be grateful for
, even if the buff is prone to arguments.
All Specs
increases the Intellect of all raid members. This buff is shared with
from Affliction Warlocks, but providing more Intellect.
Arcane
increases a single targets chance to critically hit with spells by 3% and buffs the casting mage whenever they do crit. This is unique to Mages and is a strong buff for a single player.
increases the damage caused by anyone within 100-yards of the Arcane Mage. This buff is shared with
from Beast Mastery Hunters and
from Retribution Paladins. Beast Mastery Hunters are very rare in WotLK raiding, and Mages may want to stop playing Arcane in later Phases.
Fire
debuffs targets hit by
, giving everyone attacking them 5% more critical chance with spells against them. This debuff is shared with
from Frost Mages and
from Warlocks.
isn't a key part of Fires rotation, but
is vital to Warlocks, making them the best candidate for applying this debuff.
Frost
debuffs targets hit by Frost spells, giving everyone attacking them 5% more critical chance with spells against them. This debuff is shared with
from Fire Mages and
from Warlocks. Frost isn't generally considered a raiding spec, and
isn't a key part of Fires rotation, but
is vital to Warlocks, making them the best candidate for applying this debuff.
applies the highly coveted
恢复
to 10 raid-members whenever
hits. This is shared with
from Retribution Paladins,
from Shadow Priests,
from Survival Hunters, and
from Destruction Warlocks. Even though
恢复
doesn't stack on the same target, you want multiple classes that can apply this to make sure it has the highest uptime you can get on as many players as possible, but it isn't worth bringing a Frost Mage for this.
术士
Historically a relatively selfish class, Warlocks have gained a lot in the way of raid buffs and support. With abilities like
and
they can easily cover gaps in your raid roster.
is likely one of the top raid buffs in the entire expansion, second only to
嗜血
. Outside of combat Warlocks remain one of the best classes for support, with
and
召唤仪式
being tremendous tools in raids.
Every raid will want to bring Warlocks, even if it isn't for the buffs they bring. Simply because they are a solid source of both single-target and area-of-effect damage.
All Specs
gives Health to the raid as long as the Warlock is using
召唤小鬼
. This buff is shared with
, which gives drastically more health and does not require a specific pet.
increases a targets magic damage taken by 13%. This debuff is shared with
from Balance Druids and
from Unholy Death Knights. This is generally the worst option of the three, requiring a global cooldown and restricting the Warlock from using any other curses.
reduces the Melee Attack Power of a single target. This debuff is shared with
from Feral Druids,
from Warriors and
辩护
from Paladins. When talented, all of these spells reduce Melee Attack Power by the same amount, but
requires one cast per enemy and
辩护
can only hit a maximum of 4 targets at once,
and
will be the best way to apply this to very large packs of enemies.
debuffs targets hit by
, giving everyone attacking them 5% more critical chance with spells against them. This debuff is shared with
from Frost Mages and
from Fire Mages.
isn't a key part of Fires rotation, but
is vital to Warlocks, making them the best candidate for applying this debuff. Worth noting is that Destruction Warlocks may opt to skip this talent in favor of other more valuable talents.
is unique to Warlocks and allows them to place a 15 minute long buff on a raid member, reviving them once if they die during that time. This is easily forgotten but incredibly valuable for a raid.
creates a Soulwell, giving every player that interacts with it a
邪能治疗石
. These share cooldowns with a few items, but not with Potions, making them an incredibly valuable tool to have in your pocket whenever you need an emergency heal.
召唤仪式
allows the Warlock to create a Summoning Stone anywhere, including inside of raids. While this generally isn't useful once the raid has gotten going, it is very useful leading up to that point, saving massive amounts of time getting everyone in position.
Demonology
increases the Spell Power of all raid members every time the Demonology Warlocks pet crits. The Spell Power from this buff is equal to 10% of the Demonology Warlocks at the time, meaning it scales with gear. This buff is shared with
and
from Shamans, but because this abilities boost is based on the Warlocks Spell Power, it will gain a boost from either totem on its initial proc. This is initially worse than both totems, surpassing
around 1500 Spell Power, and
at around 2800 Spell Power.
Destruction
applies the highly coveted
恢复
to 10 raid-members whenever
procs. This is shared with
from Retribution Paladins,
from Shadow Priests,
from Survival Hunters, and
from Frost Mages. Even though
恢复
doesn't stack on the same target, you want multiple classes that can apply this to make sure it has the highest uptime you can get on as many players as possible.
Affliction
increases the Intellect and Spirit of all raid members as long as the Warlock is using
召唤地狱猎犬
. The Intellect portion of this buff is shared with
from Mages and the Spirit portion is shared with
from Priests.
provides less of both stats, but Affliction Warlocks will generally be using
召唤地狱猎犬
anyway.
德鲁伊
Druids typically provide more direct support with spells like
激活
and
, but they still have a lot to offer in raids, even if it isn't unique.
remains a unique buff for Druids that every raid will want at least one Druid for.
Feral Druids cover a lot of the same ground as Warriors, sharing 4 out of their 5 buffs with them, focusing primarily on reducing the enemies offense instead of boosting their own raids offense or defense. Balance Druids give some of the most reliable versions of their raid buffs and being one of the best choices to apply them, simply because of how many buffs they bring to the table. Restoration Druids don't bring a lot that is unique to them, but their healing playstyle combined with
can put a lot of work in for any healing team.
All Specs
increases the Stats, Armor, and Resistances of all raid members. This buff is unique to Druids and can be improved with
.
激活
buffs a single player, regenerating a massive amount of mana over 10 seconds. This can be an incredible tool for longer fights and for keeping Healers going.
is a resurrection spell that can be used in combat, on a long cooldown. This is unique to Druids and can be a much needed get out of jail free card if things get bad.
Feral

Optimal Raid Compositions Groups for WotLK
Using Wowhead's very own
Raid Composition Tool
, I have created the framework of an early Wrath of the Lich King raid roster. Instead of focusing heavily on party layout as you would in previous expansions, the focus will instead be on getting all the buffs your raid composition will want and/or need.
As my first step, I picked the raids healers. Most raids will need 4 or 5 healers at most, so my basic roster of 4 healers will consist of one of each healing class, and later a flexible healer that can DPS as needed. This immediately covers a good amount of the defensive raid buffs we would want, but leaves us lacking when it comes to offensive raid buffs.
From here, I want to fill out the highest impact offensive buffs and debuffs. Starting with 13% spell damage, and 3% damage. To grab these debuffs I went with an Unholy Death Knight and an Arcane Mage. The Unholy Death Knight gives area-of-effect coverage with
, and the Mage covers both 3% damage with
and the Intellect buff with
.
Next I want to make sure we have at least two sources of
恢复
. This makes filling the rest of the roster easier because most of our options will bring more buffs to the table. For the early stages of the expansion I have gone with a Retribution Paladin and a Survival Hunter. The Survival Hunter also brings with it
误导
and a lot of crowd control, making it a great asset. Retribution brings even more, another Blessing and Judgement, 3% crit, 3% haste and more. This makes the rest of the roster easier to figure out.
As it is right now, our roster lacks a lot of physical buffs, so let's fix that next. An Enhancement Shaman can add a ton to our current setup, giving us 10% attack power and 20% melee haste as well as filling the totems our Restoration Shaman couldn't. Adding an Arms Warrior covers even more on the physical side, giving us
for the 20% armor debuff,
for the 30% bleed damage debuff,
for the 4% physical damage debuff, and
for a fantastic health boost.
When it comes to offensive buffs, we are almost only missing the three crit buffs, 5% physical crit, and the 5% spell crit buff and debuff. For the spell crit debuff, I went with a Demonology Warlock, for
. This also gives us
as a bonus! Next I added a Balance Druid, giving us 5% spell crit with
枭兽形态
as well as 3% hit with
. Last but not least, I went with a Feral Druid for the 5% crit buff with
.

With these 13 raid members, we have effectively covered almost all of the common raid buffs, leaving us with a lot of room to work with. To begin with, we don't have any tanks! Most raids won't bring tanks for raid buffs, instead bringing them either based on what the class is best at tanking, or what the best players they have are. In the end, the specific tank classes or specs don't matter that much in the grand scheme of your roster, and any combination of tanks can be made to work.
For Phase 1 of WotLK Classic, I'll be adding a Protection Warrior as the main-tank and a Blood Death Knight as the off-tank. The Warrior will make
uptime significantly quicker and easier, while the Death Knight functions as a solid DPS when fights don't require two tanks, as well as bringing
for a lucky raid member. This was simply what I deemed best here, but your tank team has a lot more important factors than just raid buffs and debuffs! Some raids might bring fewer Paladins for example, causing them to need another source of Blessings.
With that, we technically have everything we
need
from our roster, and have to work on filling out the last 10 spots. We don't have a Rogue, so I'll add an Assassination Rogue for
嫁祸诀窍
as well as AoE application of the 3% crit debuff. Hell, while I'm at it, let's add two. Rogues are a solid damage dealer and more
嫁祸诀窍
is never wasted.
While we're adding more of the same, let's throw in another Arcane Mage and Survival Hunter as well. This gives us yet another source of
恢复
as well as two solid damage dealers.
With all the buffs covered, we can lean towards the other DPS specs of classes we already have. A Frost Death Knight gives us significant AoE burst damage, and someone to give one-handed swords. Affliction Warlocks are fantastic DPS for both single-target and AoE, so let's chuck two of them in for good measure.
We now have 3 spots left, and these 3 spots are the least important in my opinion. You have every raid buff you want, you have tanks, you have healers, and you have a lot of damage. We currently have 4 healers and 2 tanks, but what if that's not enough? Adding a flexible Shadow Priest gives us the option to bring 5 healers if needed, as well as adding
吸血鬼的拥抱
for when you only need a little bit more healing. They also bring another source of
恢复
. Some fights, like
帕奇维克
will need us to bring 3 tanks. This can easily be solved by having your Feral Druid be an extra off-tank whenever needed, but you could also bring another Death Knight to fill that gap, which is what I have chosen.
Alright, last spot! This could genuinely be whatever you want it to be, but for good measure here, I'm going to toss in a Combat Rogue. No particular reason, I just think they're neat.

But as I mentioned, this roster was for the earlier parts of the expansion. So what would I change for later Phases? One key factor in Wrath of the Lich King is that physical DPS become stronger as the expansion goes on, scaling more with gear than casters do.
So to begin with, I'll swap the two Hunters from Survival to Marksmanship. This loses us two sources of
恢复
, but with more gear this becomes less valuable, and our composition still provides a good amount of this buff. One of the Assassination Rogues can also go over to Combat. We don't want to lose our AoE crit debuff, but Combat will likely scale better. Last but not least for the physical respecs, our Arms Warrior will be going Fury, giving us another very solid damage dealer.
A lot of the later scaling in Wrath of the Lich King is debatable, with memory being unreliable and simulated DPS only going so far. Because of this, it is difficult to accurately make more swaps. A lot of raids will likely want to bring more Warriors, potentially dropping caster DPS like Affliction Warlocks to fit them. Mages may want to go from Arcane to Fire as they get more gear.
For later phases I would also swap my chosen tanking duo, bringing a Protection Paladin to replace the Protection Warrior. This gives us another Blessing, more Hands as well another potential source of
. As specified before, your tank duo isn't likely to be the deciding factor for much in your raids, so use what suits your raid best.

Destruction warlocks do not spec into Improved shadow bolts. Only Affliction and Demonology do

Shouldn't "Hunter's mark" be included for hunters?

Devotion Aura and Stoneskin Totem are the same armor buff; neither is unique to their respective class.
Also, there are a number of instances where the 'better' source of a buff/debuff isn't necessarily going to provide it. For example, Balance Druids provide a chance to miss debuff via Insect Swarm that is the 'better' source, but that effect is removed by the glyph that is used by all PVE specs in wowhead's talent build guide. So a raid leader probably shouldn't expect a Balance Druid to provide that debuff unless it is discussed before the raid.
