kinda hard raids boss.
the stun is really annoying and is hard while lots of allys attack you from all directions.
did a guild run with 10 guildies and like 20-30 randoms and we downed darnassus and exodar but stopped on stormwind.
right now preparing for a raid on this guy.
btw there is a rumor that main faction leaders give 16k honor is it true ?

Doesnt sound true. Total War on Haomarush has downed every Alliance boss and it they did give that honor alot of honor grinds would have been easier. Anyway this boss is about good healers. If you can pull with just him and then start slamming him he is easy. Got 20 manned its just a matter of having good healers and quick dps

See I hate the bull HP scales the post on this site. Bolvar at 25,000? I've healed him for 14000 with a LoH and his health bar hardly moved. not to mention he gets he for 700-1400 like 6x every 2.6 seconds. thats 4200-7000 damage every 3 seconds pretty much.

Bolvar has like 1,700,000HP and they're giving HP scalings of 7000 or some crap on Khadgar, you can't even fight him how would they know, oh and like 42,000 on king Magni when it's known he has about 600,000HP I wish Wow head wouldn't post BS HP scales. If they fought but HP meter was flipping back and forth estimate, but don't post complete bs.

he got a retribution buff. it hits for 200 per time now. plus i think he actually heals himself now.

we jumped in when the dragons were chopping him. they ticked him to about 75%

The main problem with him is not that he is hard, he don't have much in term of damage spells really (just cleave and normal hits), but rather the 30-80 alliance players in the back room, which is a major problem in crowded servers.

I heard that his stun is called "High Lord's Justice" and will affect the whole raid. I never knew that he healed every 5 minutes, I've seen a video where a guild called Los Banditos Locos downed him (and most other alliance bosses for that matter) and he never healed, or stunned, once.

killed him last night, as with every other alliance faction leader after our instance servers crashed.. so we took our TK raid to ally leaders and served them some tauren sandwich.

Ideal strat for this would be

Have a protection paladin on add controll tanking all guards near the entrance to the hall and warlocks using SoC on him

then as your running up have your main tank ie: warrior/bear druid stand in the hall to the left (just in the doorway because if you go to far up that hall he both evade bugs and spawns heaps of guards

seeing as your tank is there ready to tank the boss get your ranged dps to take down the named npcs next to him (with your prot pally still picking up the guards) once all the named npcs are down get a misdirect on your main tank to Highlord Bolvar Fordragon and have him pick it up

he heals every once and a while.. this is like a mini enrage timer though

the hardest part of this fight when you tank him in the doorway is to have half of your ranged dps in the hall at MAX RANGE (so they dont take the stun) and nuke the boss after your tank has steady aggro of it

and the other half of your ranged dps on what we call gnome duty, which is to snap any alliance that tries to interfere

fight takes about 5 minutes and is really easy for a raid in T5 :P

As Varian Wrynn is shown in the comic to be making his way home from Kalimdor, he will likely free Bolvar from his commitments as regent. This would be a logical step, as Wrynn will reportedly be taking a larger role in Azeroth, and is even said by Blizzard to perhaps become the Aliiance's Thrall equivalent. We can thus conclude that Bolvar will be able to journey to Northrend himself.

well we downed him yesterday with 2 (almost) full raidgroups and our group didnt tag him so we killed him but got nothing...
so im still really curious what is the real price of swatting him...
do we get 15k honour? 2k+ gold? Otherwise it's NOT worth the trip...

who Saurfang attacks and gets killed and has his soul stolen

I believe Saurfang the younger is not lost yet, he can still be saved because of this. If the Lich king decided to resurrect Saurfang as a Death Knight, he might be able to come back to the horde, but as a Death Knight of course. As for Bolvar, I believe he is permanently lost, and the Alliance will jsut have to deal with the loss of a great Alliance hero.

He's in a few scripted events. He has at least two in Stormwind, and three in Northrend.
With Northrend, it depends what "phase" you're in for dragonblight, and he's no longer in Stormwind at all.

He is no longer in the throne room in Stormwind,
Nor is the WOTLK lead up with the scourge invading stormwind still happening (nor will it ever happen again)

After the Wrathgate event, there is a certain conversation between Alexstrasza and Korialstrasz.

Korialstrasz says: My Queen, do they know?
Alexstrasza the Life-Binder says: No, my beloved.

Korialstrasz nods.
Korialstrasz says: They will not.
Alexstrasza whispers: Come to me, <name>.

But due to a bug, some players can speak Dragonic and it is confirmed that Alexstrasza actually says

Alexstrasza: They must not discover the fate of the young paladin. Not yet.

Scene for Wrathgate, cloudy and dark.
Fire creates light.
Unfortunately, that glow you see might just be light from the fire, there is also ash drifting up into the air too if you look carefully.
So, hopefully, he was saved by the cleansing fires of the dragons. What happens next is unknown.
... or its just fire. The fire fueled by burning paladin corpse. A paladin I really liked.
Here's hoping for the 'Not-dead' option.

This is just a theory on my part, but I think his title of "Highlord" might actually be a military rank of sorts, possibly the next step after grand marshal. Highlord could actually be the equivalent of the real life General Of The Army, meaning he leads Stormwind's army (it might actually be more correct to say he lead Stormwind's entire military though).

In a sense, the highlord rank is probably inferior to both a Grand Admiral and Supreme Commander; a Grand Admiral would lead the Alliances' navy and a Supreme Commander would lead the Alliances' armies.

He also technically holds the regent lord title, a human, dwarven and highelven/bloodelven title given to a temporary leader to rule in the absence or inability of the monarch at the time.

*MINOR SPOILER*

With Varian's return hes no longer a regent lord, but still holds the highlord title. With Bolvars death we have yet to see who our next highlord will be, although I guess thats not for us to worry about.(##RESPBREAK##)8##DELIM##Gryphon##DELIM##

Highlord Bolvar Fordragon was a venerated warrior of the Alliance and served as the Regent of Stormwind following the disappearance of King Varian Wrynn. After the treachery of Grand Apothecary Putress at the Battle of Angrathar the Wrathgate, Fordragon was believed to have been killed, either by the Forsaken Blight or the fires of the red dragonflight.

However, Fordragon survived, his body altered by the dragons' flame, and was tortured by the Lich King in an attempt to break him to his will. However, the noble spirit of Fordragon resisted the Lich King's deprevations. After the death of Arthas Menethil, the mortal host of the Lich King, Fordragon demanded that Tirion Fordring place the Helm of Domination, containing all of the powers of the Scourge, on his head, so that he would forever be the jailer of the damned - imprisoning the Lich King within the Frozen Throne once more and containing the threat of the Scourge.

This guy is able to solo about 20 level 60 elite dragons in the alliance onyxia key quest. When not on that quest, he is surrounded by dozens of level 55 nonelite guards (not to mention all the alliance players who are just a tram ride away). It would take at least 2 full raid groups for the horde to even think of fighting this monster.

He is a paladin-type mob. He has an AOE hammer of justice, a pally-type shield and he can heal himself to full health with a single spell (though he doesn't cast this very often). He also summons level 55 nonelite guards (in addition to Stormwind Keep's regular defenders) once every minute or so to protect him. Oh, and did I mention that if you get him to 10% health, he shields and hearths away, making him impossible to kill? (Okay, I was joking about that last part).

He was beefed up for the exact reason he far too easily took aggro off the groups doing Onyxia quests and died, effectively losing you the quest.

In his current incarnation, killing him is definately not impossible but extremely hard. Most importantly because he can hammer of justice and then throw off an instant follow-up cleave hitting for more than, as far as I could tell, 6000 damage on the super-armored Elite Guards. Even with a host of good healers and an MC geared MT the chance of him instantly killing the aggro holder is just very big should he get a crit or an especially lucky combo off, and that spells instant death for a raid that has already laid down a fair amount of damage.

I am sure it is doable, though. Broodlord Lashlayer could probably wipe the floor with him, so your friendly neighborhood super guild on any server shouldn't have any trouble if they bothered.

The bosses are basically identically to players except they have massive amount of HP.

That being said, the bosses have different "true levels"

That being said, i think the easiest boss to take down will in fact be Archbishop Benedictus. Since there is a basement right beside him which is perfect for horde's summon sneak attack. The archdruid, Tyrande and Jaina are all standing at pretty cramped places, so they are a bit harder.

Sylvanas and varimathas are standing together. Thrall and Vol'jin is standing together. But no raid is really stupid enough to take two bosses on at the same time. They will simply pull one out.

Again, all bosses are acting as players in term of damage, which means they can outlevel you by 10000 level, but you will still be able to hit them.

According to the World of Warcraft Strategy guide, all the bosses are in fact level 63 with exception of Bolvar, Varimathas and Tyrande. (Don't flame me if I remembered wrong.)

varimathas, level 100---probably why no one has tried to mess with him yet. As far as we know, he could have kicked Ragnaros' ass by himself if he tried.

Tyrande Wisperwind, level 75----sigh...poor darnassus, with max population of 5 people at peak hour. Though I did hear quite a few raid wipe from her by the starfall.

Highland Bolvar Fordragon, level 90---if you are alliance come to Stormwind three times a day and watch he kill 7 level 62 Onixya's elite guards by himself and have 80% health left. It has been confirmed by my own eye that he does indeed use divine shield...multiple times in a 10 minute. As far as I know, he is the only boss that will heal himself to full health.

The rest are the bits of information I had with how these bosses fight.

Alliance:

Highlord Bolvar Fordragon----A combination of warrior and paladin, divine shield + cleave + laying of hand? (heal himself to full, but didn't see his mana go down. I want his talent spec!) Summon stormwind guards.

Archbishop benedictus------so far i heard is that he bashes you with his staff and cast holy nova.

King Magni Bronzebeard-----Avatar from Warcraft III. Don't become immune to magic though.

High Tinker Mekkar------no fight heard

Archdruid Faugon Staghelm------been took down a few times, but I don't have any information on him.

Priestess Tyrande Whisperwind---only know she cast starfall sometimes. Summoning darnassus sentienal.

Lady Jaina Proudmoore----Massive AoE at very cramped tower and she will teleport your maintank outside theramore. (Imagining Jaina with a baseball bat and yell "Home Run!") Summoning theramore guard.

Horde:

Lady Sylvanas Windrunner----Shooting arrow with a lot of damage, melee with a sword and teleport around. Summon skeleton guards.

Majordomo Varimathas----no fight recorded

Warchief Thrall---Only saw him fight at distance from the alliance most wanted video. Summon Orgrimar grunts. (He is a platemailed shaman. i don't know whether he cast shocks or not)

Vol`jin-----no fight recorded

Highchieftain Cairne Bloodhoof---Same old Cairne from warcraft III. No rebirth though and the weapon is a giant totem instead of a halberd now.

after watching him kill many many dragons while waiting for bg ques, ive noticed he has several main attacks:

aoe hammer of justice (same duration as a palys- 6sec) but he uses it around every 30 sec or so.

aoe cleave- this and his auto-attack are his most used attacks, according to my observations.

sunder armor- i might be off but 5x = equalled about 4-5k armor sundered

shield wall- similar to a warrior's but this he WILL use every 30 secs, which is unbelievable.

i also heared he has divine shield and lay on hands but since his hp never went below 85% or so, i guess he never needed to use a heal.

The horde raided Stormwind EXACTLY when the Windsor Event was triggered. I died just as they got to the keep but I think they had to fight BOTH Onyxia and Bolvar. I didn't get to see any of it, though =S by the time I rezzed, they were all gone and bolvar was in his old potision again.

With the help of certain mods, I can check how much mana a person has. One day when I was waiting for BG, I noticed that Bolvar had 52k mana. I was kinda surprised and awed as well. When I watch Bolvar take out those 8-10 elite dragons, he would usually end off at about 88-90% hp.

Now after patch 2.0.1 Bolvar has a little (by our standards a whole mana pool) more mana than 67k. Also, when killing the dragons, he doesnt go below 98%, and barely touches the 99%.

I'm guessing since the level cap will be raised to 70, they decided to raise the levels of all the city leaders as they did the guards.

i was going into the castle one day and then i somehow got his ret aura with my devotion aura so i looked around at some people and they also got his aura....not really sure how but it doesnt seem to happen anymore

I find it kind of strange that argueably one of the best faction leaders in the game has absouloutely no prior history with the warcraft storyline.

theres no doubt he could solo lady sylvanis windrunner, and she was a huge player in warcraft 3. yet a guy that blizard only made for wow is bette than her? Doesnt really make much sense at all.

Another thing, why exactly did we not see him in warcraft 3? Why exactly, does he not have his own phrases when the other boss in SW does and doesnt even give an HK? Its strange.

Overall this guy was a beast a year and a half ago, and he became some kind of strange demon when they juiced him even more. i watched him take down onyxias gaurds and not even see a sliver of anykind come off his hp bar. Lvl 60 elites and he was 4 hitting them like it was no biggie.

One funny thing however, somewhat of a glitch. Whenever the onyxia storyline happens and he tells the king to leave for a while, he will run down the steps and face her. Unfortunetly blizzard have done this wrong with him and he holds his sword so that it goes clean through his head. Good job blizzard. keep up the good work.

This guy is a beast! I bet that there will be almost no kills of this guy EVER. I have seen all of his guards transform into Dragons, the dragons attack him, and he commences with single-handedly slicing them down. When he was done, he barely had a fraction of his health gone. I am upset that there is very little lore about this guy. I mean, is he the new Lothar? Is he just some random bodyguard that is unbelievably buffed up? Is he also a dragon in disguise? Or is he the real king in disguise as a buffed up bodyguard?

Sigh.. the posts of him being Deathwing should be deleted, pointless to even speculate that, all nonsense. Bolvar is a glorified soldier, a bodyguard. Lore about him needs to be realised asap, would make things awhole lot better. What will his position be when Blizz finally get King Varian back to Sw? will he remain bodyguard or be moved? He'll have some envolvement with the fight against Arthas and is sure to give a quest sending Alliance players to Valgarde. Yet another lapse by Blizz, stop being lazy with character lore give this guy some history, fs you earn enough money

Well, not quite true on Deathwings "demise" He faked it and was hiding out in human form as Lord Prestor. Yes, the same name as Onyxia's human form. But he was found out and escaped. Last thing we see of him is Deathwing flying away as Nozdormu, Malygos and Yesra are chasing him.

Also, he's insane and either killed or sent his consorts/followers to their deaths in his war with the other dragon flights. He thinks only himself is worthy enough to live. So I don't think he'd feel too badly about beating up some dragonkin.

his lore is only that of a gaurd that was with the ashbringer the day he died but his name is said serveral times as to keep watch as he takes out the invaders :P only i pay that much attention to lore :P well i may be wrong but thats what i remember it saying

I love watching Horde down Velen, Tyrande, and the druid guy whose name I forget, then come to Stormwind and try to down him and the priest in the cathedral, as well as Magin and Megatorque and get pwned by all the players.

For those that wanna know, Highlord Bolvar Fordragon has 25000 HP and 67740 Mana. Don't try to fight this, its proven :P

For the Horde: Bolvar really isn't that tough. Have some mages deal with periodic guard zergs, and just have DPS burn him down. 30-40 people are required, though 20 people probably could take him if he was by himself. The additionals will be necessary to ensure he goes down before the Alliance can intervene, as well as holding off the early arrivals.

Tanking is easy. He has an AOE Hammer of Justice for a 3-second stun, a 25-point Thorns effect, and he cleaves. He'll also shield wall periodically.

So far I've seen him burned down to 0% before the Alliance can come over from Ironforge to respond several times now.

Apparently, Fordragon is bugged. He's been randomly despawning regardless of quest completion... for some reason, I suppose. As of 28 April 05, Blizz promises to fix him 'next patch'... so best of luck trying to get your keys until mid-june.

You'll probably need a good 20-man lvl 70 raid to bring him down. First you'll have to kill the guards, and then Katrana Prestor and the Dreanei Emissary. Then go all DPS on him, and hopefully kill him before the legions of Allys arrive to wipe you. With 20 lvl 70's, this shouldn't be too hard, but bring more just in case the allys arrive early.

You get about 75K honor for killing him, divided amongst the raid members. So a 25-man raid would likely get 3K honor each.

Until the recent fix; Bolvar's respawn timer was on a 5-6hour timer instead of the intended 5-6 minute. It's been fixed in the recent patch. And for all those looking to do The Great Masquerade quest, you can solo it if you do it right. Once Onyxia shows up, just stand at the back and pull the dragon guards to the front entrance, but not too far or you'll fail the quest. If you're a paladin then Divine Shield once you have aggro, Vanish if you're a rogue, feign death if you're a hunter and for all other classes...just lead them towards Bolvar so he takes the aggro and pray you don't die. If you do die, don't release or you'll fail the quest. Bolvar can kill all the dragons himself and still be at 30% if you pulled properly (the keep guards will spawn and attack the dragons)

Yo don't need to pull anything. Those guards that will be transfromed into dragons will just go for bolvar, and you can just sit back (in the same room) and watch the fight.

From what the quests Highlord gives, it apparently only initiates after you killed Onyxia and were the one to collect her head, which is a roll for greed of a lot of people. One in full raid chance to win.

What is Bolvar's respawn rate? He never spawns, and people have been doing doomed attempts of The Great Masquerade the whole evening.
