If you are looking for mass amounts of runecloth (Either for leveling Tailoring or trying to get rep with the core factions for mounts) the best place to farm runecloth is in Blackrock Stronghold (45.5, 35.2) in Burning Steppes. The orcs there can be killed fast and drop 1-3 runecloth almost in every kill. As a rogue I can get about 5-6 stacks per hour of farming.

The post above me provides a good location, however I think that you'll find that the undead citizens of Karazhan (in Deadwind Pass after the orcs) is a better place. In an hour I can easily get the number he is talking above and they drop significantly more silver. The respawn rate is considerably better as well.

I've heard rumors that it will be profitable to farm up 7 or 8 stacks of runecloth to have ready when the expansion comes out. There will be new bandages to be learned and anyone with first-aid will need runecloth to skill up. Also, once other people realize they need runecloth the demand will be higher and so stacks might be sold for more in the AH. In that case, it might be good to farm up a good amount of runecloth right before the expansion and set them in the AH then.

Netherweave cloth bandages is the next step
Manual: Netherweave Bandage -> requires 330 first aid
Manual: Heavy Netherweave Bandage - > requires 360 first aid
They can be purchased for 2 and 4g
They heal 2800 and 3400 dmg over 8 secs respectively
Hope that helps

If there is anything that I've learned about the Auction House it's that there is always a better deal. For example, runecloth. On both my alliance server and my horde I have noticed the price of runecloth vary from as low as 85s a stack to as high as 3.5g a stack, and not on seperate occasions. It is in my experience that even though you may be in a hurry to buy a few stacks of runecloth, or any other high end stackable item, don't settle for the first page of the item on the Auction House. There is awlays a better price. Save yourself a few gold and take the extra second to check all the pages, you never know what sort of deal you will get, trust me, I've gotten some great deals.

I've heard the rumor that you should save 300-ish runecloth to level up to the next bandage in the expansion (prices will go up so think ahead -.^)

Currently the best way to gain faction with your home factions, i.e. if you are Alliance, gaining rep with SW, IF, Darn, and Gnomish.
I have 7 Epic mounts to date at the moment, which requires exalted with the three other alliance factions, all of which was done with multitudes of Runecloth.
You can make good money in the market with Runecloth.

thanks for the great info on farming sites. Respec'd to tailoring this weekend and not only was there little runecloth to be had, it was wildly overpriced. So I came to Blackrock Stronghold and ran some laps on the inside ring, cleared the yard, ran a few more laps and had quite a number of stacks of bolts of rune cloth before I even had to rebuff.
On to the next!

As a nice suggestion for some decent runecloth farming, I'd like to mention the area just north of Lights Hope Chapel; the Noxious Glade. You'll find a lot of undead in the area, dropping 1 to 4 runecloth at a time. You can easily do 5 stacks an hour running around here!
Oh no, my secret's out now!

I'm an affliction lock. I tried all the places above, which were great, however HoT doesn't work on undead. I went over to Feralas to try farming the ogres for runecloth, and it's the best place imo! I easily get 6 stacks in 30-45 minutes.
You can farm lots of them here and they are a fast respawn. I continuously get drops of 3 - 4 runecloth and tons of greens. I have attached a screenshot to show the runecloth drops a lot.

I find the ogres in feralas are a waste of time. ive killed at least a 100 ogres so far and normally dont get runecloth. All i get is money. Drop rate is very poor or just very poor for me. Yet when it does drop, its normally 1 runecloth and the occasional 2 runecloth. Very rare to find one that drops 3-4 runecloth. Been at it for 30 minutes and maybe collected 20.

I have found a really easy place to farm runecloth to be the unyielding footmen at fort at the southern end of Hellfire Peninsula. They have a good drop rate. Other beneficial things about this area are:
1. The long line of the footmen on the ridge that don't wander. You can pull them without much competition.
2. The respawn rate is crazy fast so if you are pulling from the line, by the time you get to the end the front of the line has respawned.(##RESPBREAK##)140##DELIM##ArgentSun##DELIM##This seems to be no longer accurate. The

All of the above spots are okay, but the one place that worked best for me was Silithus grinding the Twilight Mobs. Mobs have around 3.8k health and are easy kills, packed closely together and most drop around 1-3 runecloth.
They can be found here:

I'm not the quickest grinder (no AoE) but I got about 3 stacks in 30 mins.

In my opinion the best place to farm Runecloth near the Expedition Armory in Hellfire Peninsula, killing the Unyielding Footmen and Knights. They are all lvl 59-60, and 80% they drop 1-3 Runecloth.
As a lvl 62 UD Shadow Priest, I have just grinded the place for 2½ hours.
This netted me a total of:
14 stacks of Runecloth
2 stacks of Netherweave
12 green drops
I also got:
26g 07s 97c in loot money
7g 55s 06c selling the grey drops
I make laps starting with the line of Footmen to the east, starting from the top and going down. Then I go west and make a circle around the tower. By the time I finish the circle the line of Footmen will have respawned. The Footmen seemed the best to me, although the Knights also dropped a good amount. I did not bother with the Sorcerers as they did not drop anything but money.
Footmen have around 4,5-5k HP, easy kills with no special attacks.
Knights have around 3,3-4k HP; they charge as the fight begins, once around 50% they call for help, plus they can heal others (but not themselves) - so always kill them first.
As a Shadow Priest I just used VT - SW:P - Mind Flay - Wand (and occasionally SW:D). Sometimes, I also used VE to get my health back up. During the 2½ hours I drank 25 times; once every 12th fight or so.
This place is imho better than Azerothian grinding places when you are at a level where you still get XP for killing the mobs. I was rested to start with and got 1k XP per kill, totalling up to 200k rested XP - afterwards I got 500 XP per kill, which added up to 70k XP.
Not being rested at all would have netted me 170k XP, a fair amount for 2½ hours of grinding.
Moreover, there is not that much competition here. There are only few quests, and those are for lvl 58-59 - so you will probably be able to handle characters from the other faction if you are lvl 61-62.
Another good thing is that lvl 70’s almost never go here, so you are not in danger of being ganked.(##RESPBREAK##)140##DELIM##ArgentSun##DELIM##This seems to be no longer accurate. The

I tried out the Expedition Armory in HF, but in my experience The Noxious Glade in Eastern Plaguelands is a better choice. The good thing about Expedition Armory is, they're all right there lined up for you, but that's about it. There are downsides to the Armory. They sometimes drop Netherweave, which if you're farming for Runecloth is basically worthless - if you've done questing in Outland you probably have at least one bank bag full of the stuff. Another problem is they drop mostly lvl 58 Outland greens which, let's face it, are vendor trash! They don't sell well on AH, and although you might get a little gold out of them, it still isn't Runecloth. Finally the droprate for Runecloth there, while not bad, just isn't that great.
The Noxious Glade is practically all positive. You're guaranteed that if they drop any cloth at all, it's Runecloth - and they drop cloth significantly more frequently than at the Armory. They drop Essence of Undeath, which stacks unlike Outland greens. And the greens that they do drop are low 50s which *can* sell pretty well on AH, or at least will disenchant into something other than Arcane Dust (which is about all you'll get from an Outlands DE). Plus there's a lot more mobs in the Glade, and by the time you circle around chances are good you'll pick up the respawns right away.

I've found that the best place to farm Runecloth with my lvl70 Warrior is good old Tyrs Hand, especially the caster mobs. They are still elite but die pretty quick and drop greens/blues very frequently. If you are an enchanter you gonna make a decent profit out of all these drops.
Don't forget to check the buildings for the High General rare-spawn.

I have a lvl 66 Warlock Affliction speced and I went to Expedition Armory in HF. My professions are Tailoring and Enchanting. I thought it was the best place for 3 reasons.
1) The respawns are FAST. All I did was kill the sorceresses around the circular area and as soon as I got to the other side they already respawned.
2) Everyone drops 2 - 3 Rune cloths, rarely (but not too rare) 1 maybe 2 Netherweave, some greens, and some grays. The greens I was able to Disenchant and get some dust or shards from them. The grays I can turn around and sell for about a gold a piece, and the Netherweave I just used to make my Neatherweave bandages so I was never out of bandages ever.
3) I was still able to get some exp and get back some soul shards from farming in Kalmidor or Eastern Kingdoms for so long.
I didn't try the other spots but so far I like that one the best. Even at least if you don't get exp from killing them or you can't get shards from killing them as a lock, you can still get some Netherweave and always store it for later when you are able to use it.

I just tried Dire Maul and I would have to agree. Dire Maul is the best place. It took me a while but very quickly I was getting 4 rune cloths will almost every kill. Greens I wasn't getting much of though. Don't go inside Dire Maul, stay on the outside. Best place.
Expedition Armory is a good place though if you still need to farm and you need to replenish on supplies.

An alternative spot to farm runecloth that actually has a good drop rate is the ogres outside of Dire Maul. I was able to make six stacks of runecloth bolts in about an hour.
The ogres inside are not as easy, even if you are a 70 with a pet.

For a lower lvl grinding approach to farming runecloth, try the ogres in deadwind pass (lvl 55-57), they are only about 30% drop, but in an hour i got 24 bolts, 4 green objects and about 1g75. The good thing about them is they are close together, low aggro and fast re-spawn.

On my server (Hyrdraxis) runecloth prices in the Auction Houses have soared since the release of The Burning Crusade. One of the main reasons is that many people around level 55-60 who want to grind quickly go to Outland where runecloth does not drop. If people have not realized, Everlook, Felwood, and the Burning Steppes have all become wastelands since no one goes there anymore. So if your aiming for a lot of money, grind for runecloth. Currently, Netherweave cloth is less expensive than runecloth.

I found the best spot to farm runecloth is Dancing Troll Village, a secret (legal) zone between moonglade, darkshore and felwood. Here is a movie about how to get there:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q_U_VowdeVU
Notes: You need to be Alliance to be able to attack the trolls. The best class is the mage, as there is the Big Group of Dancers (so I named them) that don't hit rlly hard and die quickly.
I found it personally quite easy to farm them as a level 62 fire mage. Just AoE like mad and they will fall.
P.S. - They have a high chance to drop greens or blues and they dropped for me once
https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=811
. Really worth at least visiting that place.
P.P.S - the trolls are between lvl 52 - 58.
EDIT: found their wowhead link
https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/npc=10919#drops
EDIT 2: I really doubt that this place is forbidden, as a post under mine states. If it would be forbidden, why would Blizzard have created them Loot Tables in the first place?
EDIT 3:
http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=5901621373&postId=59010208902&sid=1#3
It is forbidden to visit this place, indeed :(. I'll just leave this post here for it's historical value ;)

While farming runecloth on my 70 hunter for my 43 tailor/enchant priest, I tried a few places. I thought I might share my experiences for anyone else in a similar situation.
First was Jadefire Run in Felwood. The drop rate on runecloth wasn't bad, usually 1-3 pieces every second or third satyr. The real gem about this location was the felcloth, however. After a few hours (around 3.5 spread over a few days) I wound up with just under a stack of felcloth to send to my priest. It probably isn't as useful as it was pre-BC, but it's still handy to have.
Next was the Noxious Glade in EPL. Since I didn't level my hunter there, it took a while of exploring to find the place and get my map filled out. The cloth drops were good, 1-3 from the humanoid and undead mobs, and the mobs were well grouped (2-3 together, making it easier for us without powerful/effective AoE to get a good group of mobs together). The Essence of Undeath and Ichor of Undeath was a nice bonus, too. Unlike above posters, I didn't find a lot of green drops. Still, if I were farming Argent Dawn rep and runecloth at the same time, I can think of no better place.
I only tried the ogres outside of Dire Maul (Feralas) for a short time after noticing the cloth drops were mainly one piece at a time with the occasional two, that is when cloth dropped at all. The caster mobs around were nice for me as a hunter to keep range, but I did notice a lot of competition around. I don't know if it was my server or if there really are a lot of people aching to run Dire Maul. As a 70, I didn't get ganked at all, but lower levels might if their server is anything like mine.
In the end, Hellfire Peninsula won me over, just like so many others. I can farm runecloth AND netherweave (which, unlike someone before said, not all of us kept from our time levelling in Outlands) and get the bonus greens to disenchant or vendor. Plus, the greys here sell for a lot more, meaning I don't have to turn auto-loot off to prevent a bag full of junk, so everything is just a little faster. And more profitable.

I hate farming, lemme tell you. Absolutely hate it because it is time consuming and often times sad. Having tried to farm for this before, I was really wary, especially knowing that most people want you to go to WPL/EPL. I hate that place. Also out of desperation, I went to the outside area of Kara, the ogres in Deadwind Pass, Felwood, Feralas and other places which all validated my hatred for farming.
I took the advice of fellow wowheaders and went to Hellfire to the Expedition Armory, against my better judgement. Lemme tell you why you should go there:
In 30 minutes I:
Got 3g from mob kill loot
4g from vendor trash
8 greens that I in turn disenchanted (not sure which was worth more yet)
4 stacks of Rune cloth
2 stacks of Netherweave
And I would say that is pretty darn good farming. Let me also share another secret. When you are coming around the armory by the Warp Fields, take a brief detour and slay about 5 of the void walkers. You will likely get 2-4 mote of shadow per half/full hour. This may not seem like much, but considering how much cloth you will want, you will get 10 of these in no time. 10=primal shadow= 30-50g on the 3 servers I am on.
Happy hunting :)

one thing i have found when farming in feralas is that they take several minutes to 'warm up'. they don't start dropping runecloth, hardly at all, for close to 20 mobs in... for some reason, i have no idea why... but don't get discouraged, as once they have warmed up, it is nearly a 50% drop for about 80% of the time 3 or 4 cloth. the other nice thing is that these kills take literally less than 10 seconds a piece. i got ten stacks of runecloth in around 45 minutes or less. i also got a few greens which i de'd, and i got lucky and got
https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/item=810
this monster which i sold for 200 gold in less than 5 minutes at if. somebody offered me 1k, which he was crazy for, but he said he changed his mind cos he was saving up for his mount. obviously that's a rare occasion, and isn't anything that you should pick your place for; a rare multi hundred gold drop. nevertheless, this is a fantastic place to farm with absolutely zero competition. is more of a pain to get to, even if you're a mage, though.

One of the posts above lists Zul'Mashar (EPL) as a good cloth grinding location - it is very good. The post also mentions the dirt piles in the center of the camp - getting close to them will spawn mobs. What the post doesn't mention is that these mobs have a horrible 2 second knockdown ability that appears to have little to no cooldown and seldom, if ever, misses a lvl 70 cloth wearer.
Here's a link to the type of mob that spawns: Infected Mossflayers (
https://www.wowhead.com/wotlk/npc=12261#comments
). Their knockdown is so bad that if you have more than one of these mobs on you, you literally may not be able to use a potion.

If the need for runecloth would arise and you happen to be level 80, I recommend you take your trusty steed and ride off to eastern plaguelands and stratholme. I ran the whole thing, both scarlet and undead side, killed everything and ended up with about 18 stacks. Also you get tons of blues, greens, silver and if you're really lucky, the baron might see fit to reward you for killing him by giving you his mount. :)

Silly sidenote: It might be worth noting Runecloth drops off Timbermaw mobs as well, so you can max both reputations at the same time. Albeit the droprate isn't as great, but if there is no one around it should go pretty quick.

Idd Stratholme is a very good farming spot for Runecloth. As a Feral Druid I was able to start farming in there with mostly crap green and blues from Northrend quests. Once you gear up it becomes even more easy. Now I can easily run into 5-6 packs of mobs at a time and spam Maul (with glyph) and Swipe.
The time you'll spend in there is worth it, without rushing, just taking time to visit an old instance, chilling around and so forth, you'll be able to get 13-14 stacks of Runecloth in about an hour or so. The only problem you may have is bag space with all the grey/green/blues you'll pick up along the way. If you take your time and loot every mob without the Auto Loot option enabled you won't have that problem ofc, the only downside I can see in that is that you'll lose a lot of time but that's up to you :)

Ok, I have tried going to all three areas (Tyr's Hand, Hellfire, and Noxious Glade), and here are the ranks imo: Tyr's hand was worst for me, dropping hardly anything and with far spaced mobs. Hellfire with the unyielding footmen was good for me because it had a relatively good drop rate and fast spawns. By far, however, Noxious Glade was the best area. It has very good drop rate and a large area with well spaced mobs. As a 61 Unholy DK, it was very easy for me to farm. I would recommend this area for farming.

I decided to go for the Ambassador titel (exalted with all the horde factions) and for that i needed roughly 250 stacks of Runecloth. So, what i did (and doing still) is to farm Stratholme, baron side.
This is what i get from one run:
6-8 stacks of runecloth.
~60g from selling everything i loot to the vendor in Light´s Hope Chapel.
A chance on the baron mount.
(If you´re not exalted with Argent Dawn, i suggest you put on your trinket and start collecting scourgestones)
I usualy start with a quick run to clear all bosses and get Baron down in ~11 minutes (with looting). Then i take the road back killing everything i see!
One run usualy takes about 30-35 minutes, so its imo the best farming place for runecloth!
Best regards and happy farming!

I needed 280x runecloth for rep once and I wanted to make a comparison between the ogres near dire maul entrance and the scarlets in north WP.
There aren't as many ogres as the scarlets but the ogres drop more often 2x or 4x runecloth so I get more than 60 runecloth per run.
And at the north WP scarlets...they do drop runecloth, but only 1 or 2, or 3 if I'm really lucky, there are alot of scarlets but they don't drop as often and as many as the ogres...I got less than 60 per run...
So the ogres in dire maul are the winners, they drop more often and only 2-4, i haven't seen them drop only 1...and they helped me get the Ambassador title :P

I just spent about 75-90 minutes farming solely the area arround Zul'Mahar (Aprx 64,14) and got 400 runecloth. This was done using a Level 80 hunter and a lot of patience. Mobs spawn fast enough where you can circle the camp and most of the time have something to kill. Cheers, and Happy hunting.

I have not checked out any of the other places listed except for Tyr's Hand in EPL and I found this to be a great place to grind for runecloth and gold. I like this place for several reasons. One, if you are lvl 70 or higher then the elite mobs should be no problem for you, even if taking on 2 or 3 at once. Two, even though the mobs can heal themselves, you can easily use any disrupt ability to stop them and the mobs do not run when low on health, so no pulling adds on you either. Three, the respawn rate is not an issue because if you clear everything, even inside the buildings and all the way up to the back of the area then that will take you a good 45 minutes, by which time plenty of mobs have respawned all over. Fourth, it would be my estimate that 90-95 percent of the mobs will drop at least one piece of runecloth with a high number of mobs dropping up to four pieces. Fifth, the silver loot is great, with a high percentage of mobs dropping at least 10silver and some dropping as much as 25silver, plus the grey vendor trash in most cases will sell for as much as 1 or 2 gold a piece. I spent a little over an hour in the morning and another hour later the same afternoon and walked away with the following:
Silver Looted: apx 38 golds worth
Vendor Trash sold for apx 16 gold
Mithril lockbox dropped x2
Star Ruby dropped x2
Five of Elementals dropped x1
Green item drops (which I DE'd) dropped x11
Runecloth dropped x401
Not bad for two hours worth of farming, though it can get tedious if farming isn't your thing. Two suggestions, if you don't have it already I highly recommend you install an addon called Sellfish which you can get from curse.com. When the loot window opens just simply put your mouse over the item and Sellfish will tell you how much you will get if you vendor that item. Very handy for determining if a grey item is worth looting or not since you can see if it will sell for 35s or 2g.
Also, keep your eyes open for "The Crimson Courier" which follows the main path on horseback through Tyr's Hand every now and then and is accompanied by 5 elite guards. I've never seen this before so it took me a bit by surprise, but if you aggro the Courier the first thing she will do is kick you and send you flying way up in the air and backwards about 30 yards and out of range for you to attack her BUT when you come back down to the ground the 5 elite guards will be right there waiting and you will land right in the middle of them.

As a level 80 you can definitely pull that off in less than 30 min depending on your class, you'll find videos of people doing it in 14-15min so it's definitively worth the time spent to farm rep with the Argent Dawn.
Actually, if you skip the trash (you can skip all of it - up until the slaughterhouse), you can make it in less than 10 minutes. I never had my debuff reach 35 minutes before I engaged baron.
The only thing that really takes time is the waiting after Ramstein comes out, but you can cut this wait time by running inside while he is walking out. The horde of undeads outside will attack you when you go out again, but their damage and health is trivial to any lvl 80.

Not sure if someone else wrote this, but runecloth is also dropped by the Jadefire Shadowstalkers and Tricksters in NW Felwood. If you are trying to quickly build up your First Aid, Felwood is a good place to spend some time and get Mageweave and Runecloth.

my favorite place to farm them is in stratholme. I run in at the back door and then all the way back to scarlet section where I kill every mob out side untill Timmy the Cruel comes I kill him and enter the door and start mega pull every mob until I come to the closed door then I nuke the mobs down and loot enter the next door and mega pull rest of the mobs incl the 2 bosses Balzanaar and the other (can't remember his name) and loot. I usually get 5-10 stacks of runecloth and few righteous orbs and this is done in around 10 mins (protection Warrior)

I found the best way for me to farm rune cloth to be in UBRS. Enter black rock spire and right after you go up the steps to UBRS you enter the room where you have to put out the ruins in the 7 rooms to open the next door up. In those rooms is a mob named
Blackhand Summone
r. I would kill all other mobs and leave this one up. This mob will summon other blackhand mobs every 5-15 secs. The mobs she summons are lootable. I easily would spend 20 mins just letting her summon mobs for me to kill. Never having to move from my spot. Was super easy to farm all the runecloth i needed to re-level tailoring. This might be hard for some classes as you will be in combat the entire time but i had no problems on my enhancement shaman. I don't suggest you using more then one summoner at a time cause the mobs can overwhelm you quite easily as you cant aoe in fear of killing your summoners.

Stratholme is my runecloth farming spot of choice, lately. As a level 80 marksman hunter, I can kill every last mob in the instance in a couple of hours, and leave with 5-7 blues, a handful of greens worth keeping to sell, upwards of 100g hard cash dropped by mobs, 20+ stacks of runecloth (I think I would have been able to make 453 Runecloth Bandages after my last run), AND if you put the blues/greens/runecloth up at the AH, most of it will sell (especially the runecloth), netting you another 100g or so if you're lucky! The other bonus is no competition. ^_^ Just make sure you put everything you don't absolutely need in the bank before you head for EPL, and don't bother turning Auto Loot off. It's way faster to auto loot and just start trashing greys and cheaper greens when you run out of space.
The only con to this plan is dealing with the Mangled Cadavers and the disease they can inflict that reduces health regeneration by 100%. It can be tricky if you don't have something to cure it with, lots of potions to use until it wears off, or a means of controlling them/killing them quickly.

For a lvl 80, the best place to farm is by soloing Hellfire Ramparts. Depending on your luck, you'll get about 3-6 stacks. Each run also earns you about 35-65g, again, depending on your luck with drops wich you vendor..
One run takes me about 20-25 mins (Lock 0/40/31). Any class with decent dps can do it easily. Mages will obviously rule at this farm spot...

I can only agree with what others have said. Assuming you're lvl 80 (or so), you can pick up very high amounts of Runecloth from Stratholm in a short time. The various debuffs is a pain for some classes though, but shouldn't be a major issue.

Two very nice places to farm for runecloth is Stratholme and Scholo. Another bonus of this is you can also farm here for Argent Dawn rep. With the coming of patch 3.2 there are extra dailies from what I heard on the Blizzard Podcast 10 that you can only get if you have your reputation with Argent Dawn, Argent Crusade and all of your factions at Exalted. Doing these two areas can get you your Runecloth for turn-ins with each sides cities and get you your Argent Dawn reputation up as well.

Just for the record, Zul'mashar is an absolutely terrible place to farm (AOE) for a caster. The Infected Mossflayers, which are the primary mob here (they spawn by running over the graves) have knockbacks which also stun you for a moment. As a level 80 shadow priest, I was near to death a few times simply because of this. Mass farming is not a viable option here.
Runecloth drops are pretty good here though. In 37 minutes I had 4.5 stacks. Not exceptional though.

Here's how I farmed runecloth to get exalted with my faction cities.
1) Head to UBRS.
2) The groups up to
Pyroguard Emberseer
contain
Blackhand Summoners
. These guys summon NPCs that drop runecloth.
3) Pick a group and kill everything but the summoners.
4) Keep the summoners alive and just continue killing the spawns.
5) Collect runecloth until your fingers bleed.
Depending on your gear level, you can tweak the number of summoners that you keep alive. If your gear is crappy, just keep 1 summoner. If you can 1-shot the spawns, you could probably keep 3 or 4 summoners up.

by far
is the Auction House. I can usually get 10 stacks of runecloth in 10 seconds. One can get more than enough gold to pay for this by either: (1) doing dailies for 30 minutes, or (2) running a quick heroic instance and vending off any drops.

THE
unluckiest person in the universe or something but I went to kill the unyielding knights in Hellfire after looking at the comments here and it was %^&*
I killed easily 50 mobs and got 3 runecloth. So I looked up their loot table and it says they have a 45% chance to drop runecloth and I was very confused as to why I wasn't getting any so I bring up wow again kill a load more because my Hearthstone was on CD and I was planning to use it after I finished grinding to go back to Dalaran and I got nothing.
I'm not sure what's happened but it was
AWFUL
for me so I just stopped. I would advise against going there.
Then I tried Stratholme and it was great, but don't think just because your lvl 80 your invincible I played my 80 ret pally ran throught it once, got loads of runecloth but you'd be surprised how much damage you take from the mobs.

Trust these people, Tyr's Hand is THE best place to farm Runecloth.
I went to Expedition Armory and to my surprise, all mobs dropped Netherweave, not a single piece of Runecloth. So I decided to go to Tyr's and it was spectacular. Each mob was dropping around 4 pieces and sometimes greens and trash that sold for over 4g each. The respawn time is insane too and despite being elites, anyone ove 70 can beat them fast. Half hour of farming there can easily give you 8+ stacks and well over 30g. There are two parts to farm in Tyr's Hand. Lower and upper. Lower has the Barrack, Abbey and Chapel and if you keep going up you'll find a church, which is where upper begins, with higher level mobs. Beyond Tyr has no mobs, which means that going to the Scarlet Enclave (where DKs start) is useless as there are no mobs there.
Truly a great place to farm Runecloth. I don't know if there are any quests there, but I swear I think Blizzard made this place to farm Runecloth. One last thing, Clothies beware, some mobs hit for 600+ and if you pull a bunch of those you might die.

As of yesterday, I can confirm that Stratholme is just about THE best place in which to farm Runecloth that I've ever found. In a solo run I did, (I'm a lvl 80 rogue) I picked up over 200 pieces of Runecloth. Of course, I took out all of the trash mobs in the living section, but by the time I got to the undead section, I was just ready to get the hell out of there, so I avoided the trash and focused only on the bosses and acolytes in the ziggurats. I was able to down the Baron with about 30 minutes (give or take) left on my debuff. Very easy to solo @ 80, even with less-than-awesome gear. Argent rep makes this worthwhile, as well, if you're into that sort of thing.

The best place in my opinion is Stratholme live side. I can yield about 20 stacks of runecloth at the most each run, and if you do live and dead side (requires patience) you can really come out on top. Fudge waiting on respawn timers now that were level 80 and super geared its goes by pretty fast. Happy farming! If your lower level though as stated about you can go to Tyr's hand in eastern plaguelands(death knight starting zone) Tons of mobs Bout lvl 55ish and a really fast respawn rate.

I took the time to read all the comments try most of if not all the spots and I've come to find out that
Stratholme
IS INDEED THE BEST WAY TO GET RUNECLOTH.
Either Queue for it, get a guildee or a high level to run you through it, or just beg (lol) because all the other spots don't compare and they're just a waste of time.
Easily 10+ Stacks a run and if your getting ran through it shouldn't take that long at all. Just don't be dying and go out reset and re loot it. Tons upon tons of Runecloth... I have so much I don't know what to do with it all!
Hope I saved some people some time from finding out for themselves because it took me 1 day to find out this and I'll never go back to another spot ever.

So I have had major success In gathering 5-8 stacks of Runecloth per run through
Stratholme
. It can be easily soloed by a few different classes (one being a Feral druid like myself) and it is Resetable! I know what you are thinking, why the hell is a high lvl character running that instance?
Deathcharger's Reins
, thats why. I know they changed the rate from 1/1000 to 1/100 but still can take some time for the unlucky few. Hey! I can also mail the *cloth to my alts and power grind rep for them this way. ^,~
Think about asking for payment for runs to the Baron as the D1 sets drop a few pieces in here. I know I was willing to pay for it!
(5-8 stacks of runecloth per run @ 15 minutes a run = 20-32 stacks of Runecloth/hr)

Friendly to Exalted using only cloth turn-ins
For those considering using Runecloth to power level their reputations (I'm looking at you Worgen/Goblins!) I did a few quick sums.
Once unlocked, the repeatable
Runecloth donation quests
reward 75 rep for 1 stack of Runecloth.
6000 (Friendly) 80 turn-ins
12000 (Honored) 160 turn-ins
21000 (Exalted) 280 turn-ins
39000 total rep needed (520 turn-ins)
The initial cloth quests reward 350 rep each
-350 (60 Wool Cloth)
-350 (60 Silk Cloth)
-350 (60 Mageweave Cloth)
-350 (60 Runecloth)
That knocks 1400 rep off (~18 turn-ins)
So that's a total of 502 stacks of Runecloth
In summary, to level from Friendly to Exalted using only cloth quests, you will need the following mats:
Wool Cloth
* 3 stacks
Silk Cloth
* 3 stacks
Mageweave Cloth
* 3 stacks
Runecloth
* 505 stacks
If you're lucky enough to be a Human, knock off 10% (around 50 stacks)

Yep...For a lvl 80, Stratholme is
THE
place to farm Runecloth and, as a side benefit, gold generating goodies!
Recent trip into there on my Prot Paly. 1 hr to clear everything (the looting takes a while!) yielded:
400+ Runecloth...
A whole heap of the 3 types of scourgestone (turn in at Lightshope for Argent Dawn rep)
Crypt Fiend parts and those bones which can be handed into Argent Dawn for rep.
Several BoP blues
Several BoE blues and Greens
Several white/grey weapon and armour items (often sell to vendor for 1 or 2 gold each)
A pile of trash loot which can be vendored.
As a side note, being an engineer is a definite plus. Stock up with scrapbots so you can sell the loot mid instance. Jeeves is handy for dumping stuff in your bank and MOLL-E mailbox is nice for sending items to your alts.
Unfortunately I didn't note how much cash I had before I went in so not sure what I made cash-wise in the instance and immediately after. At a guess, aside from the Runecloth which I handed in for rep, I reckon I will make well over 100 gold for the run by the time I have sold the DE'd mats I get from the blues/greens that dropped.
Quite the money-spinner!

The mobs in Tyr's Hand, i think is the best place to farm runecloth, theres alot of mobs so don't think you'll have to wait for them to respawn, I'm a lvl80 feral/resto druid....so obviously i was farming in feral and i would kill one set of mobs and move on to the next area and I'd go back and they were already respawned, i looted alot of runecloth! The mobs dropped 1-4 cloth per kill most of the time i was getting 3 cloth so i was happy. If you get bored there, head over to Corin's Crossing, not as many cloth but theres alot of mobs there too.
You can also run strathome, you'd get about 7 stacks of runecloth a run (solo).

the upper 40ish humanoids (level 48 or 49) are the starting point of dropping runecloth but you will have to farm 50+ mobs to get constant drop.

In each major city there is an NPC with the title of <cloth quartermaster> or something like that. They offer the quests, "a gift or wool/silk/mageweave" (no linen cloth) that requires 3 stacks(total of 60) of cloth units, and give you 150 rep each (at least thats what I got for each turning in those three quests at lvl 54).
Once you finish the wool/silk/mageweave quests, the NPC will then offer a quest for runecloth. He/she asks for 60 units, but once you finish this quest you will then get a repeatable quests that requires only 20 runecloth. (I beleive it also gives you 150 rep but i have not tried yet)

Most efficient farming spot for me has been the stronghold just south of Blackrock Mountain in the Burning Steppes. Outside the stronghold you can pull most of the slayers and locks 1 by 1. Inside you will deal with at least 2 at a time. Very fast farming with a rogue. Kill all the mobs outside and walk away with at least 15 runecloth then kill all the mobs inside and have a stack and a half. By then the mobs outside are respawned and you can repeat.

If you want to turn in Runecloth for rep, you first need to finish the Donations of Silk, Mageweave, and Wool. Only when you complete those will the Runecloth (repeatable) quest show up.

Im a 300 enchanter and I'm lv 55 so it was about time I got some rep with Timbermaw and got the
+15 agi 1h
and
+25 agi 2h
enchants.
Out I went into Felwood (its easier to farm rep by killing the Felwood Furblogs as they are lower lv) and started farming. After quite a short time (within a few hours) I had gotten to friendly and had farmed 700 runecloth!
The drop rate is
amazing
as you get 5 rep for every furblog you kill + they drop 1-12s in cash + they drop random blues and greens (I got Sandales of the Insurgent from them and a few rare recipes) and they drop 1-3 runecloth per kill, they can also drop feathers which can be turned in in stacks of 5 for 75 rep! They also gave me 300-600 (depending on rested or not) exp per kill!
So having a rep with Timbermaw is one of the best things wow has to offer! You can go and kill the Felwood Furblongs either for
1) Blues and Greens
2) Reputation with Timbermaw
3) Exp
4) Runecloth and gold farming!
Hope this helps!
Its helped me get over 300g!

Forget Azeroth! Droprates on Runecloth are Horrible! I tested it out. I'm a 70 Holy/Discipline Priest on Smolderthorn. I ran with a 70 Arcane/Fire Mage friend of mine. I read this thread through and through and went to just about every spot everyone is saying to go.
Here's an account of my research:
First Stop: Eastern Plaguelands; Tyr's Hand. Mobs were 56-58 Elite. I would round up 6-8 mobs at a time and we'd AOE them down. They hit pretty damn hard and they're elite so the have lots of health. AOE pulls weren't that easy even for 2 70's with blues and 1 or 2 epics. We'd get maybe 3-4 runecloth per group.
Second Stop: Western Plaguelands; Any of the farm fields. We went to 3 of the different fields with the Cauldrons. Lots of Mobs to pull at once! Non-elite mobs, great! We'd both mount up, pull 10-15 mobs each and meet in the middle, AOE them down. Got 4-6 runecloth per group.
Third Stop: Felwood; Felpaw Village, northern-most furbolg camp. Drops were alot better here, but still lacking. More mobs to grind on, but still only 2-3 runecloth per group. The mobs are around lvl 53 so they're easy to kill and there's several camps to keep you busy and keep the respawns fast.
Fourth Stop: Deadwind Pass; The Vice, Deadwind Brutes and Ogre Mages. Not that many mobs here, so respawns take a while when you're a 70 farming runecloth. First of all, it's Azeroth, so the drops are crappy. Same as in Tyr's Hand and Felwood, the drops are few and far between. There's only maybe 5-6 Ogres in a camp that you can pull and they only drop runecloth maybe 10-20% of the time and it's only 1-2 runecloth. It's a waste of time!
Fifth Stop: Hellfire Peninsula; Expedition Armory, Southwest of Honor Hold. Excellent drops! Drops are fairly frequent and when they DO drop, it's usually 2-3 pieces. There's a row of probably 20 melee mobs there. If you have an AOE class (i.e. mage) and a healer, you can pull half the row, AOE them down, and loot probably 8-10 runecloth.
I was able to solo on my friend's 70 Arcane/Fire mage for 1 & 1/2 hours and get 5 stacks of Runecloth. I also picked up a couple grey items that sold for about 1g each and 1 or 2 greens that I sent to my alts. I also got 5-6 Netherweave, a couple Zangar Caps, and 1 or 2 mana/healing pots.
>>>>>>>>>> Final Verdict <<<<<<<<<<
Go to Expedition Armory and farm for Runecloth! Absolutely the best place to farm for Runecloth. Even if you're 58-60, go there and farm. The mobs there are 58-60, so a lvl 58 can grind here easily. There's lots of mobs all over the place. Go there! It'll be time well spent, and being new to Outlands, you might pick up some green gear that will replace your Azeroth garbage! Good Luck Farming!

I had to farm for Winterfall Spirit Beads to catch up with my faction.
Easy Kills, grab several mobs at a time. I didn't even think about needing these runecloth later to make cloth to pop for illusion dust since NO ONE wants to sell it for the old fair prices anymore or at all. in about 5 hours of grinding for faction i got about 50 stacks of them and thought well my tailoring is 375 i really don't have use for them, I'll just throw them on AH....duh so now I am looking for more runecloth to make clothes that i can DE for illusion dust.
Yes the armory is a great place to farm high drop rates. But for those who do not have BC to go to the outlands.... Winterfall Village in wintersprings is a great place to farm. they are decently low levels (56-58), respawn fast, always drops greens and even some blues, a rare walks around once in a while and a chest almost respawns every 10-15 minutes in random spots with food, drink, Blues, Greens, and lots of Bars and Ores for you miner/blacksmiths.
Cords are 67|35
Also its very close to town so you can vendor your trash.
Best to go when there isn't alot of people around like early morning or late night. Reason why I am here and not the armory is because the drops in outlands dont DE for Illusion or Dream dust.
Dream dust + Runecloth = Wizardweave robes = cheap cloth to DE in bulk

Ok I went to Tyr's Hand to farm some Runecloth.
At first I thought it was going to be rubbish, as the first 3 mobs didnt drop anything but silver.
But then I had one drop 4 runecloth, and another 1, then another 3... obviously not every kill has dropped runecloth, but the pulls are nice and easy, spread out without risking aggro'ing other mobs (well im 70)
As for difficulty of the mobs, they don't really hit that hard, even for late level-50s elites. HP isnt that huge either. Surprised a mage felt the mobs were that damaging, as most of them are casters.
Warders - Retri Paladins. Ok these do hit the hardest, as theyre essentially melee that try to heal themselves near death. But eh, I was gettin hit for no more than 150 per hit. No more than what outland/hellfire mobs hit for.
Clerics - Priests. Most of there attacks were resisted, died too quickly to heal -.-
Enchanters - Mages. Again, resisted 90% of their arcane bolts/missiles, and died quite quick.
IMO most should find this area quite easy at 70, cos you'll resist so much of their attacks (although melee classes will find the warders less of a threat).
Good place all in all.

The ogres outside of Dire Maul are no longer elites avg lvl 53 they still drop runecloth like they are elites 2-3 at a time.. It is a little faster farming then around thrallmar imo, waiting for the nerf.

If you're LW: Go outside DM or BRD... in fact BRD was great for me but i went with a few friends. We cleared the place and got 30 stacks plus all the hounds... tons of leather/large brilliant shards.
I'd say get a tailor, a LW, and an enchanter and you all make out like crazy.

Its quite a nice farming spot early morning, but later on people are leveling a lot so it slows you down a little. + I had to put up with dam alliance stealing mining nodes from me while i am killing the mobs to allow me to mine the node (and i am alliance as well)

Im not sure what people are talking about when they're saying Expedition Armory is good for Runecloth, I tend to only get 1 or 2 cloth per 5 kills.
At Tyr's Hand in EPL however, I'm getting 3-4 every other kill sometimes back to back and getting about 11-22s a kill.

The above poster is correct, the armory isn't a good place to farm anymore. I cleared the whole line of ghost dudes and got 1 (one) runecloth. They did drop about 10s each tho.

if your a mage or a charecter who can handle large mobs with AOE, ZUL Mashar Eastern Plague lands is an absolutely great place for runecloth .In front of the steps of the temple the graveyard respawns undead very quickly and these drop %^&*loads of the stuff ..also see plenty of essance of undead 2- 3 gold in AH, with the troll types surrounding the grave yard dropping Powerful mojo as well as runecloth which can bring in up to 10g a time. The whole place behaves like a mini zone with various herbs and a thorium vein all availble within a small perimeter
best place ive ever been for Runecloth..but be advised to get the best from it AOE types are needed

I farmed Darkmaster Gandling in Scholo for runecloth for Gnomer Rep. Spent a couple hours with him porting me between rooms while I killed and looted the 3 mobs each time. Once he's oom all he really does is port you around. I was able to get 55 stacks of Runecloth, two BoE epic drops, 80g+ in cash drops, and he even dropped the Ace when I finally killed him. Worked out nicely.

as a level 80 frost specced mage I decided to take tailoring as my new profession,
Once I needed runecloth I just went back to ( old ) azeroth and entered Strat scarlet and baron instance. I pulled the entire instance then iceblocked. frostnova followed by mirror image which will cause you to loose all the aggro, next summon the water elemental and frostnova - cone of cold - pet nova - arcane exploison - profit. Like this I got 2000 runecloth in about 2 hours if not less. The droprate is amazing. Basicly the only thing you have to worry about is that you have to loot all the corpses fast before they despawn =)
Only annoying thing in baron as caster are the Crypt crawlers as they can silience you for a unlimited amount of time so I suggest to kill them first before you go on the aoe journey to save a lot frustration.
Also you have a decent chance to get the baron mount and if you're enchanter like me you'll loot many green items which DE into greater eternal essence ( 20g each on my server ) or Illusion dust. Since noone is running old instances the prices has gone up and ofc will sell very fast and easy.
Imo there is no faster way then this to collect runecloth, you should definatly consider this when you're lvl 70+ and leveling tailoring and not want to spent a lot gold to buy it in AH.

Stacks of this sell for 5-6g on my server, Alliance. I think it's up to 7g on Horde side. This doesn't seem much when you're nearly level 80 but if you need 60 stacks or so, then the couple of g difference adds up and things get pricy, as well as then having to buy the mounts do it all over again with the other cities.
If you're level 80, you can manage to solo Ramparts normal which gives nice Runecloth - though you'll probably be happier farming non-elite felorcs, or go to Tyr's Hand in EPL and farm it or just farm gold and buy it off the AH (as aforementiond, it depends on sever economy whether or not this is faster than farming the actual runecloth, also bear in mind that how much you get is limited to what is being sold).

if your farming runecloth for the rep to get the mounts theres only one perfict place............. strat UD thats right cos you can solo it with most classes around lvl 70 (making lvl 80 a breze) you get 5 to 6 stacks per run only takes 20 to 30 mins plus you can also get barons mount

I just did about 30 - 45 minutes of killing 50-55ish elite mobs in Tyr's Hand in EPL, and the drop rate was fantastic. I'm a lvl 70 Human Warlock and was en route to Ruins of the Scarlet Enclave in order to get the Exploration Achievment and ended up killing a few and just kept going. Some mobs drop 3 and 4 cloths at a time, and within this short time I had 3 full stacks. I'll be going back here to farm Runecloth.

Easiest place to farm this stuff for me was Stratholme. I have about 40 stacks after four full runs (both living and dead side). Sucks for me because unknowingly I was already exalted with all five home cities and didn't know it and they don't sell for squat on my server :(
But I was able to also get eight BOE blues and a buttload of greens for disenchantment out of Strat, so all in all it was ok......

Out of all the locations listed above I still found it much more effective just to hit lvl60 instances since they almost for sure drop off elites and also around 4 at a time plus you dont have to wait for respawns either. Im a rogue and since we now have an AOE I can round up tons of mobs and just obliterate them. Chuck Ching!

By far the best place to farm runecloth is scholomance. I do it with my 72 death knight and i get about 5-8 stacks. I also get about 30g from looting and greens and blues that vendor for about a 1-4g a pop. Most things there are BoE so you could sell them but since they drop so frequently its better to just vendor. I have ran it 10-15 times and i have had lifestealing enchant drop 4 times. After i repair and sell all my trash i send my main about 60-80g plus all the runecloth. Its the best place for gold rep for argent dawn and most definetly runecloth.

i have been farming stratholme, in hopes of rivendare's deathcharger dropping.
if i do the entire instance, i can have at least 9 stacks (luck is a factor).
i think i have farmed a total of 65 stacks, and ive been soloing it for 3 weeks now.
it's also not a terrible way to make gold, as you dont spend tht much if you dont die.
i am a 72 unholy dk, and not geared excellent, but decent (quest rewards from nexus dont hurt)
i don't reccomend doing this unless you have a hell of a lot of bandages, or you have self-heals (like me)

Expedition Armory seems like a good place to farm, run along the rim, pull all the mobs, a bit of Howling Blast ^^ Though, I'd probably be alot more successful if there were'nt Dwarf bots farming in that area >.<
Hellfire Ramparts is a good place for Runecloth, though it depends on if you have alot of patience

Gahrron's Withering is excellent if you're purely after cloth and can kill fast - lots of mobs packed tight, a good drop rate and fast respawns. In a timed 30 mins just now, with a L80 DK, I pulled 136 cloth (just under 7 stacks, and better than 4 pieces a minute - which is not to say that I dodn't have sequences of 8-10 mobs not dropping anything, as well). I rarely had to move more than a few feet to the next target, and at no point did I run out of mobs to kill. I'd tried the Felwood furbolg as well, but they're just too spread out and too thin on the ground by comparison.

Best place without a doubt for this cloth is in silithus , recently after grinding cenorion circle rep through killing the humans at the twighlight camps , i made a lot of runecloth
So through a lot of rep grinding ( very fast turn 10 encrypted twighlight texts for 500rep all the way to exalted ) i made around 400 runecloth , and i was on start of honored
So if any alts need to lvl tailoring etc , and main wants a cool title 'Guardian Of Cenarius' I recomend this place

Is that It doesn´t show in which mobs the % is higher. (like a top with the 10 more) and it´s many mobs to find which is the higher.

You can get to halfway through honoured (6,000 out of 12,000) through just questing and killing certain mobs (I don't know which ones)
So from there you would need 6,000 + 21,000 = 27,00 rep
divide by 50 (rep per stack of runecloth) = 540 stacks (10,800 pieces of runecloth)
say 3g per stack on the AH and you're looking at spending over 1,600g to achieve exalted, and since the only reason you want to get exalted is for an epic mount you still need to spend another 800g to buy the mount
So you could end up spending 2,500g on your epic mount - I'm looking forward to it, bring on an Epic Raptor for my Orc

At 80, it's VERY easy to farm the dead side of Strat in Eastern Plaguelands. Just kill all the groups with humans, ghouls or skeletons. I average a little over 100 runecloth each run. Plus, you get a chance at the Baron's Steed ^_~ You can also reset it and run it as many times as you want in a row. If you're like me and are aiming for that Albino Drake, and need the cloth for rep turn-ins, this is the place. (with mount restrictions leaving in the next patch, us Taurens have it easy now, too <3)

Ok face it people when TBC comes out the value of this will dissapear as the lvl 70 will be able to get it so much easier. As such selling your runecloth now, while its still expensive means more gold then waiting. if you really need runecloth then sell what you got now and buy more new runecloth for the same money whne the prices have crashed. (Or grind for it when you're on your way to lvl 70).

Farming some of these high dropping rate mobs requires that you be a higher level. If you're in the early 50s, the humanoids in the Jaedenar cave in Felwood have a decent drop rate. They drop anywhere from three to five stacks per run through, which isn't that bad if you can do it quickly.
Also, handing in a stack of Runecloth now gives 75 rep not 50. Getting from Honoured to Exalted now only takes 280 stacks. 2G per stack, 560g, plus the 600g for the epic mount: 1160g. Not that bad. :D

Timbermaw in north Felwood
50 kills - 18 runecloth Not worth the time.
No blues, no greens, nothing but an orb and bananas, and even the feather drop seems very low now.
UPDATE Feb 2021
Have made the rounds a few times since June '20. Picked up a few greens since then and an
Epic Staff
.
Returned today and after 24 kills I have a few pieces of roasted quail, a savage bear claw, a thick hide, and 9 feathers. So the feather rate isn't too bad, but there
is no rune cloth
so far.

Complete agreement with Cromagnon. Expedition Armory has been nerfed. It's not a bad drop rate, but it's more like 60/40 with the 40 being runecloth so if you have a good reason to be there, then farming there is useful. For runecloth specifically the spot I found (others agree)
STRATHOLME.
is the place. In less than 10 minutes (I went in the back door and just started killing everything I saw) I had 6 (yep SIX stacks) of runecloth. Of course I did this on a level 80 druid with typhoon and starfall.
