Introduced in the Burning Crusade expansion, the males had an even slimmer model in the alpha stage but because of lots of complaints by the community, they got a 'buffed' model. The only race in WoW which cannot play as Warriors.

There is a notion among players that all Blood Elves are played by kids and they are all noobs and ofcourse we know it is all false. Blood Elf Paladins (and now Death Knights) are constantly ridiculed as the new generation (or rerolled) Night Elf Hunters. Also people joke that there are no male Blood Elves and people call them various names ridiculing their look, also based on their sexual characteristics.

But who cares what they say. Anu belore dela'na!

EDIT: As of Cataclysm expansion, Blood Elves can become Warriors.

I really like the racial in this race. Arcane Torrent, do you ppl think that this will restore hunter focus too in cataclysm?

Cuz that would be awesome. I am currently a blood elf, and if they can recover focus in a faster way (when cataclysm is here) it will be one of the best classes to roll a hunter (again). We can silence casters, covering a whole area in the hunter world. I do mostly BG's, and thats very useful.

But i think that many ppl will roll a forsaken hunter only for the removing of the sleep/fear/charm, so they dont have to spec in BM. And maybe for the Cannibalize ability.

I love blood elves, and i always will be one, And i will also have a hunter xD.

The racial isn't terrible, but isn't all too great either. It's most obvious use is it's silence; you can use it to put a healer to shame or to interrupt a particularly long cast (such as a pyroblast from an enemy in PvP). It's also useful in PvE when you want to interrupt (such as in the Moorabi fight).

The mana restoration is particularly useful if you need a small boost when a raid boss is almost down, but don't rely on it for long-term mana preservation.

Cloudmaster, their not. I play a Blood Elf Death Knight and my Arcane Torrent restores Runic Power. And the character I leveled to make that Death Knight was a Blood Elf Rogue, and it's Arcane Torrent restores Energy. So I'm pretty sure Blood Elf Warriors' will restore Rage, and Blood Elf Hunters' will restore Focus.

Actually according to lore, there are supposed to be around 450,000 Blood Elves and 50,000 High Elves (for a total of 500,000). Give the scourge killed 90% of the High Elves, that meant that prior to the Third War, there were some 5,000,000.

The number 500,000 is derived from finding out how many High Elves there are. According to lore at wowwiki, excluding Dalaran, Theramore, the Hinterlands and Outland, there are roughly 25,000 High Elves in the Alliance on Azeroth. Given that Theramore's council of 7 has 2 high elves on it, there are 11,000 or so inhabitants there and the High Elves claim to be under-represented, one can assume an additional 4,000 reside there. Given Dalaran's high Elven population, one can assume that at least 1,000 of its 3,000 inhabitants are High Elves, as it is stated to have the highest concentration of Elves in all human settlements (this being pre-Sunreavers). It is also hinted at there being around 1,000 in the Hinterlands (for an additional 6,000, a subtotal of 31,000).

More intriguing is the region north of Eastern Plaguelands, which could be where large numbers (according to wowwiki) of High Elves who did not want to become Blood Elves settled. Large Numbers is a relative term, though I am treating it as 12,000-15,000 given the size of the more moderate sized settlements in WoW, such as Theramore, Menethil Harbor and Tyr's Hand (compared with SW's 200,000+), after all this is supposed to be an entire zone. Finally there are the High Elves of the Alliance Expedition to Outland.

Edit: In reality though, I wouldn't be surprised if the number of BE toons reached 3,000,000 counting alts.

Edit #2: The region in question is the only 'hidden' region which did not get revealed in cata. Hyjal, Uldum, southern Silthus, Twilight Highlands, Kezan, Gilneas...all revealed but still nothing here....odd. Given that there was some mention that Kul Tiras would eventually be revealed, perhaps something will eventually happen here, though as of now its still locked

So explain to me why Blood Elves are getting Warrior class with Cata when "... Blood elves are fully dependent on magic, having revelled in its power for so long that they suffer horrible withdrawal if it were to be taken away..."?

Interestingly, many people mistake the ingame model of the blood elf female as how they actually look lorewise (All models suffer from this in some form, actually). It's highly inacurrate (Especially for belf/nelf females), much like all the other races for the sake of keeping the "cartoony" feel of the game. They're not supposed to have massive feet bigger than their heads (night elves clearly fall under this category too), among other serious flaws in the game design.

If you want to know how they really look lorewise, look no more.

Those are accurate portrayals of how they are look in lore.

So the average player that goes, "lol they're so anorexic and retarded", keep in mind that's just to retain the cartoony approach to the game. Else, if you had the models ingame as they do appear in the majority of concept art and so on...well...the game just wouldn't be PG-13 anymore. Think about it.

Call me mister Obvious, but it's like Blizzard intentionally made the male version of the blood elves so homosexual. Their hair, their dance, their jokes, even their stance. I personally like their story, the whole "trying to find our place in the world" concept. I still can't find a sign of homosexuality in the more famous blood elf characters like Kael, Lor'themar, etc. Nor do I find anything like that in blood elf lore. I suppose it was Blizzard's idea for comedy and freshness. They overdid it, blood elf males may even be called "disgusting" in some cases. Still, my favorite race and there's a solution to everything - blood elf females.

If you played Warcraft 3 the Fronze throne you can clearly see that most of the male elves look like guys and sound like guys. Kael is a good example. Either that or there all you know whats.....o.o (other than gays) . lolz

Btw why do you guys hate the belves so much other than there looks reflecting those of a feminine guy. I think there skills in the game are pretty decent. Either that or its all based on there aperance and not the abilities in the game. in that case it makes a good laugh most of the time.

Blood elves are pretty glam, but basically in line with humans, night elves, and Draenei females. Or Middle Earth elves.

IIt's hard to make a stalwart Night Elf like a Druid of the Claw from WC3. Varian is a former bloodthirsty gladiator, but looks ready for anime.

Can anyone tell me if the hairstyles were updated in Cata? I've been away on business since before the x-pack came out, and have been planning on playing again when I get home. I've looked all over the web to try and see if they were updated (like they were in WOTLK) I know that there are new hairstyles for the Worgen and Goblins obviously, I have viewed them online, but was also wondering if those styles would be unique to those races or transferable at a barber shop?

According to WoW Census 2010, Blood Elves were the most played Horde race! These are the statistics taken from WoWwiki:

Alliance population: 51%
Horde population: 49%

5. Troll ( 5% )
4.Orc ( 8% )
2. Joint Second: Undead and Tauren ( 9% )
1. Blood Elf ( 17%! )
(Goblins weren't part of the Horde yet)

So all you savage barbarians, elf haters, and people who nickname them "The Justin Biebers of the Horde" take that!

(An interesting fact is that if you compare the most played horde class- the Warlock - ( 53% of all warlocks in the entire playerbase are Horde) with the most played horde race - The Blood Elf - you'll find that in theory, the most played Horde race / class combination is a Blood Elf Warlock!

The Blood Elves were Night Elves...you'll see what happened to them, just read the lore below: ( I know its long but if u wanna keep reading lore go to the link. :)

The high elves, led by Dath’Remar, left Kalimdor behind them and challenged the storms of the Maelstrom. Their fleets wandered the wreckage of the world for many long years, and they discovered mysteries and lost kingdoms along their sojourn. Dath’Remar, who had taken the name Sunstrider (or “he who walks the day"), sought out places of considerable ley power upon which to build a new homeland for his people.
His fleet finally landed on the beaches of the kingdom men would later call Lordaeron. Forging inland, the high elves founded a settlement within the tranquil Tirisfal Glades. After a few years, many of them began to go mad. It was theorized that something evil slept beneath that particular part of the world, but the rumors were never proven to be true. The high elves packed up their encampment and moved northward towards another land rich with ley energies.
As the high elves crossed the rugged, mountainous lands of Lordaeron, their journey became more perilous. Since they were effectively cut off from the life-giving energies of the Well of Eternity, many of them fell ill from the frigid climate or died from starvation. The most disconcerting change, however, was the fact that they were no longer immortal or immune to the elements. They also shrank somewhat in height, and their skin lost its characteristic violet hue. Despite their hardships, they encountered many wondrous creatures that had never been seen in Kalimdor. They also found tribes of primitive humans who hunted throughout the ancient forestlands. However, the direst threat they encountered were the voracious and cunning forest trolls of Zul’Aman.

I also read that Kalimdor, Eastern Kingdoms and Northrend were one landmass called Kalimdor. But because of the High Elves, in the Battle of the Burning Legion Neltharion recieved a critical impact (probably the Old God's corruption) so he went insane and his body sundered revealing the hatred and madness inside of him (That's why Deathwing wears plate) so he made the other dragonflights leave hurt and sad because of his betrayal. Then blablabla, the War between the NE and Burning Legion destroyed the Well of Eternity and the world was blasted and destroyed by its explosion, which left the Maelstrom in the place were it was. You should try and read more lore in the site on the Drop-down Menu...all that I said is there but with more detail. :)

I'm really angry that in cata the blood elf quests (eversong woods - ghostlands) didn't change like the vanilla races. It's probably something to do with bc stuff since outland has not changed and the draenei quests hasnt change as well. Their probably gonna change it in the coming xpac. They have to! I mean, they still need to enable flying in the BE and Dreanei zones (or have they already? i haven't been there on my main in a while). I mean, didn't we already reclaim the Ghostlands? Haven't the Wretched been disposed of? What happened to the Night Elf spies? Did we fully drive them out of Quel'Thalas? They could also have a quest chain when you help to somehow cleanse the ghostlands of the scourge taint and get rid of the dead scar. Maybe I'm going to far but you know what I mean.

OKAY guys I just made an extremely important observation that is of EXTREME fashion importance.

first of all, blood elf FEMALES have thighs that are way too long.. this makes them look unnaturally tall when those girls aren't even wearing any high heals .. They have to have slightly shorter thighs to compensate additional height of any foot wear.. like IF blizz was to implement a new graphic such as heels then they would all look awkward with that super tall height. 2ndly, look closer, their calves are shorter in comparison to their thighs making the look of their legs improportianate.. it is very obvious when the character is cast/directing a spell, you can see what i mean when she bends her legs.. the calves are just too short while the thighs are too long making the overall figure look horizontal.. 3rdly when the toon is sitting down, her thighs are ABOVE HER SHOULDERS! it's crazy how can that be possible.. just look at all the super hot chicks out there, no one is like that. I hope BLizz fix this abnormality in belf females soon, thank you.

strangely, with the introduction of them being warriors, they are actually...the best race pvp-wise.An extra interrupt AND 15 rage. It can be very crucial in pvp,interrupting someone gaining just enough for execute or another special attack

Their racial pales in pvp, compared to the elves ..Ever since the nerf to the stun reduction, along with the arms iron will talent(*its out of the game) it makes no sense to play an orc warrior.4.5k AP @90?Thats quite weak.Not to mention you can be like every 10 year old kid playing an orc warrior or you can try to be different. I dont like the oversized shoulders/melee sounds anyways on orcs, sounds truly like an orgasm, while the blood elf actually sounds like fighting. My opinion that is. I kind of view orcs like warlocks/mages(casting animations are just bawss)

The blood elves (or sin'dorei in Thalassian ("children of the blood")) were not always part of the Horde. They are a playable race composed of former high elves who renamed themselves in honor of their people who were killed during the siege of Quel'Thalas by the Scourge during the Third War. The High Elves are not a playable race in the game.

The High Elves of Silvermoon were attacked by Arthas and his Scourge army in the Third War, changing life for their civilization. Arthas shattered more than 90% of the High Elf race, destroying their culture, as well as the Sunwell. Prince Kael'thalas was in Dalaran at the time of the disaster, and came home to Quel'Thalas to find his people and homeland in ruins. He renamed the High Elves "Blood Elves" in honor of their fallen kin, but about 10% of the High Elves fled back to the Alliance, keeping their name (meaning "children of noble birth"), and kept tight forces with the Alliance to try and regain their once honorable people. Only about 25000 true High Elves remain, which means there are approx. 250000 Blood Elves.

You can tell the difference between a Blood Elf and a High Elf with their eye color. The original eye color of the High Elf was blue. No matter what rank or class a High Elf is, their eyes will glow blue, because although they are still addicted to magic, they are trying to overcome it. The Blood Elves have glowing green eyes due to their addiction to Fel Magic.

Vareesa Windrunner, ranger general of the Kirin Tor Offensive, sister of Sylvanas Windrunner, the Dark Lady, leads most of the Alliance High Elves back into battle against the Horde, going at war with their former people, the Blood Elves, who are now under the temporary control of Lor'themar Theron.

Blood Elves are by far my favourite race.. They look great: like humans, only better! Their starting area is superb, especially after level 7. Even when I make an Undead character, when I hit 7 I head over to Eversong Woods. Their architecture is awesome, often involving tall, floating structures connected to the ground only by an orb of Translocation, which literally means "orbs that move location". Silvermoon city is orderly and majestic, and could only be made better if you could fly there. Eversong Woods is great for training Skinning and Leatherworking, as is the next zone, the Ghostlands. The Blood elf racial mounts, the Hawkstriders, are also epic. The Isle of Quel'Danas, Blood Elf island located north of Eversong Woods, holds one of the best dungeons (Magisters' Terrace) and one of the best raids (the Sunwell). Blood Elves, you are awesome.

I love Blood Elves. They were my favorite race prior to Cataclysm but now I have more Goblins than I do Blood Elves.

The biggest downside to Blood Elves is that the males just do not look right.

If you have a female Blood Elf you may have noticed that, since Patch 5.4.7, the cape animation is a bit… strange. This is due to a known issue: at the moment the animation for cloaks in Blood Elf female is the same as the one used for female Draenei, that’s why it feels a bit weird. Don’t worry, though: our development team is aware of it and already working on a solution. We’ll keep you updated as much as we can. :)

visual appearance is important to many, look how much cosmetics shops are making on it ;P

fairly certain that the number of player-made belves outnumbers any single other horde race.

I hate how they're stuck in 2007. It is ridiculous that humans built a whole new park district in two expansions but blood elves could not get rid of the ruins of their city.

A very racial song for them is called Lament of the Highborne.

"Originally thought to be a lament to the Fall of Quel'Thalas, or possibly the Troll Wars, Lament of the Highborne is a tribute to both these events and more. The original song may have actually been in Darnassian, but given the similarities between it and Thalassian, this is probably a moot point. The original version is a Kaldorei song lamenting the losses during the War of the Ancients — a tribute to the members of the Kaldorei Resistance who fought against, and died by the claws of, the Burning Legion. Some 2,800 years ago, the words were altered (though the melody remained the same) to reflect the similar losses and courage found in the Troll Wars. The song (possibly modified slightly) rose to popularity in recent years, after the Fall of Quel'Thalas, again to honor the fallen of Quel'Thalas and those who persevered. Hence, the song is a dirge, not for just the high elves, but for all elves; Kaldorei, Quel'Dorei, and Sin'Dorei alike."

I thoroughly dislike them since day 1 (in WOW at least, in WC3 they looked decent). Sounds are pretty much OK, but their look is just awful - both males and females are way too skinny, and too uneven (they never stand or move straight, 1 side is always in front, like they are cripples or something), as if some giant grabbed their head and feet and squeezed them.

As 8.0 Blood Elves Arcane Torrent no longer silences, the new spell does;
Remove 1 beneficial effect from all enemies within 8 yards and restore 3% of your Mana.

(Quite a shame, I loved my silence in PvP.....)

The BfA pre-patch brought new customization for Blood Elves, in the form of Golden Eyes.
These Golden Eyes are a reflection of the cleansing of the Sunwell, and are accessible via three new face options.

HERITAGE ARMOR

Like the Allied Races, the 血精靈 race is getting a Heritage armor set, which it seems will be obtainable beginning with Patch 8.1, Tides of Vengeance.
Along with the 矮人 race, they will be the first non-Allied Race to be able to obtain a Heritage armor set.

The obtaining of a Heritage Armor set is different for a race other than the Allied Races.
When a character from one of the non-Allied Race character is max level, and exalted with their race's faction, the player can begin a quest chain (and scenario) to get an achievement that unlocks a set of Heritage armor to use on that race for their account. (thusfar only introduced for 血精靈 and 矮人 - Patch 8.1)

This set is based on the Blood Elf Spellbreaker Armor from Warcraft (the Frozen Throne?) and World of Warcraft (worn by Blood Elf Guards in Different Places in mostly Burning Crusade content).
This NPC Spellbreaker set has recently been given a bit of an upgrade, for the guards that've been wearing it, so the screenshots you see on the 皇家守衛 etc NPCs may be different from their 3D model available in 8.1. The Heritage armor we can obtain is a fancier version of the guards' newly upgraded set.

As far as I've seen, there's only one tint/coloration/version:
You can see this set in the Dressing Room - Female & Male (and with the tunic instead of the full robe - Female and Male), but note some of the extras don't currently show in the dressing room (e.g. the golden claw tips on the gloves, the chest armor over the breastplate).

The closest we've probably gotten in-game to a wearable version of the set in general is Tempest Sunwell Garb (also seen worn by 銀月破法者精英s), and another chest we've seen is 緋紅辛多雷長袍 (凱爾薩斯‧逐日者 in 博學者殿堂) or other Sin'dorei-style gear. There's not a ton of Sin'dorei style gear to be found outside of BC content.

There are several Blood Elf (red, gold, optional green accent) style/color weapons/items in the game, that could be used to complement this Heritage set.
Examples: 精靈貴族聖歌集, 辛多雷戰刃, 辛多雷黃金之杖, 瑪洛諾斯之握, etc.

For 惡魔獵人s who want to show a little more skin in the chestpiece area (to show off tattoos):
I've found the 惡毒慾望胸鎧 and 典獄官武藝護脛 (坑道跋涉者護足, too if you want) combo from the Legion Dungeon Leather set work fairly well with the other pieces of this Heritage set, especially when combined with one of the lovely red/gold DH blindfolds.

I've not yet seen any Heritage armor variations for any of the non-Allied Race Heritage armor sets. As such, it's likely there will only be the one tint for non-Allied Races. (The only Allied Race currently capable of obtaining more than one tint is the 瑪格哈獸人 Allied Race.)

Shadowlands pre-patch (9.0.1) changed the zone, and its inhabitants, to a range of 1-30. Loot also is now restricted to those ranges. With the modifications to starting level for 死亡騎士 and 惡魔獵人 characters, either class can level well here, until they're eligible for flying.

Patch 8.2.5 changed 逐日者之島 and 永歌森林（燃燒的遠征） to level 1-60 30 (as of patch 9.0.1) zones, up from 1-5 and 1-20 respectively, and the NPCs scaled to level 60 (reverted to 30 in patch 9.0.1). The two "silver-dragon" rares, 艾丁納克斯 and 崔格拉, also scale from ~~3-62~~ to level 30 (as of patch 9.0.1), up from their previous range of 3-22.

The item drops also now scale, and the item pool for random drops has been expanded so that higher-level grey, white, and green loot is possible for respectively higher level characters.

It is now possible for a newly created Blood Elf 死亡騎士 or 惡魔獵人 to get decent experience from doing all the quests in these zones, in addition to the reputation from 銀月城.

For those inclined towards role-playing, the changes from this patch have expanded the opportunities for Blood Elf characters tremendously, while also increasing the challenge for characters up to (and slightly beyond) level 60 30 (as of patch 9.0.1).

And much weaker than newly added Void Elves.
I changed races for my chars, because they are useless.

With the new character customization options you can turn your blood elf into a quel'dorei(high elf). I like that a lot.
