I did not get any quest items from looting fragments off the ground after surveying. I got all 10 of the quest items from a demon NPC named Wyrmtongue Collector that spawned after looting the fragment. The NPC dropped 2 each time he spawned for me and I completed the quest after about 2 hours of farming.

So one line up above says:

"Survey digsites in Azsuna and find 10 missing Parts of the Infernal Device and bring them back to Brann."

And then, right below it, it says:

"Relevant Locations
The entirety of this quest happens in Stormheim."

Drop rate seems low from the survey itself, but thw Wyrmtongue fella's have atleast 1 and often 2 fragments.

EDIT: Took me roughly 1 hour and about 5 digsites, with some walking and fighting in between.

So I don't see any digsites in Azsuna. with my Archeology and the necessary things are checked.

Dropped anything from 0 to 4 for me from any digsite. An average of probably below 2 per digsite overall.

On my 5th digsite and i've only recieved one. The drop rate seems to be very low.

Took a couple hours but I also did a random heroic in that time to break up the monotony.

This quest is likely a reference to Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine, a 1999 game by LucasArts. In it, Indy had to race the Soviets to gather four pieces of an ancient Babylonian device that could open a portal to another dimension.

I am having a little trouble finding the quest i am currently in the process of completing on the wowhead database, it shares the title with this one but this page is for the horde side, also this week (27/11/16) is Azsuna not Stormhiem.

What fixed it for me is enable digsites on BOTH minimap & zone map

Quite rare while digging, 1 in 10 completed digsites - the wyrmtongues will like you be the majority (75%) where you find the fragments (gives at least one, high chance at 2). Tagging others players' wyrmtongues will not contribute to the fragments, so don't bother on that.

For the sake of efficiency, do not do the ones on the Watcher's Isle.

I'm not sure if they raised the droprate or if I just got super lucky, but...

1st - 3 (gold site)
2nd - 6
3rd - 0
4th - 1 (gold site)

It took 15-20 minutes.

Also, my ilvl is OK, but not amazing, but I'm a tank, so the two gold shovel sites on Isle of the Watchers weren't bad at all, with southern being easier than northern.

I don't know what the min/max drop quantity is, but Reanimated Pit Lord spawned for me today and dropped 2 of these.

Just finished this 'project'... I found the most lucrative site to be the Farondale one.

I agree with Brann; Wyrmy was a bit... underwhelming (as a Destroyer of Worlds).

Did this on patch 7.3.5, outcome:

1st Digsite - 0
2nd Digsite - 0
3rd Digsite - 2 (one from a mob)
4th Digsite - 2
5th Digsite - 2
6th Digsite - 3 (three from mobs)
7th Digsite - 1 (done after 2nd dig)

Total time: ~1 hour

I only did silver/non-golden digsites.

Fast one - took me only 1.5 golden digsites on Isle of Watchers. Was quite lucky with Wyrmtongue Collector spawns though.

5th - +45min (I thought my quest was bug)
6th - +15min
7th and 8th - +1min
9th and 10th - +1min

If you buy the battle pet fro the AH it does not counto towards the This Side Up achievement.

If you have any 石化的蟲舌魔, hang onto them until you are working on this or one of the other demonic dig site quests needed for 此面向上/火眼金睛. It will significantly speed up getting the Infernal Device Parts as you are guaranteed 1-2 from the 蟲舌魔收集者 it summons. You can literally hang onto them indefinitely. And while they don't stack, you can stock up as many as you want.

First I found an ancient text talking about a demon who harnessed the power of the titan disc I've been searching for.

Then I found a device which supposedly is used to summon 'im! Only, it's missin' some pieces from what I can make out.
