Maybe i got this wrong but alliance get ported into undercity? Whats got me wondering is if thats true what will happen to there quest when guards start spawning and attacking the alliance players left , right and centre. And not to mention the Horde players that will come to try and wreck up the quest for them. Could anyone fill me in on that?

When Blizzard said that Varian would be a new, inyourface Alliance leader, they weren't kidding.

If it wasn't for Jaina being a cow, we all know who would've won that fight. He just has that "I'M GOING TO RIP OFF YOUR HEAD AND SPIT DOWN YOUR NECK, SCUM!" feel that the Alliance needs.

This Quest seems to be bugged at more than one place. Though it only took the normal 5 Minutes for the Quest to start, I'm stuck right now in the Sewers at the green pool of goo in front of the entrance to the Undercity. There was a little sub-event where you have to kill some waves of Abominations and other stuff after Wrynn tells you to stand your ground. No more Mobs are spawning but Wrynn and Jaina are just standing around doing nothing. I tried aggroing them to a nearby group of mobs that were standing around, but they just killed them.

After waiting for around 10 Minutes Jaina and Wrynn despawned and the event reset, causing the enemies in the sewer to respawn and quickly killing me due to the missing buffs from J and W.

Will try again and see if it works this time. I'll update as soon as I'm done (or not done depending)

EDIT: Worked like a charm the second time, it was bugged because the Engorged Blight worm didn't spawn. If this happenes to you just run outside and wait for the event to reset

If you are anywhere close to Jania you will receive the buff "Improved Brilliance Aura: Battle prowess heightened by Jaina's powerful spell."

During the battle with Grand Apothecary Putress, instead of 9500 health, I had 39,000+ health and took hits from him for 11K. I was getting heals/health regen for 9900 (aura effect?). Putress has a knockback attack that launches you 20ish yards backwards. Also swarms of little oozes called "Failed Experiment" will come in attack players - they hit me while in shadowform for 300-330ish damage. My damage was greatly amplified with shadow word: pain ticking for as much as 4500, mind flay crits for 8500 and mind blasts hitting for 15K.

This is a phased quest/battle area and other alliance players on the same quest were all involved in the battle and flagged for pvp with me.

Awesome epic battle.

Edit: When I first arrived in the staging area outside, there was a status at the top center of the screen (similar to what you see in BGs) with an alliance shield to the left of it, "The Alliance has secured the Sewers!" and below that line was a crossed swords icon, " The Alliance is battling through the Apothecarium!". So when I got there, the event had already started, and I ran into the sewers, following the line of guards to catch up to the current battle in the Apothecarium. When you get the quest from Broll Bearmantle at the staging area, check the status at the top of the screen to make sure it hasn't already started.

Once Grand Apothecary Putress was defeated, the crossed swords were replaced with an alliance shield, "The Alliance has secured the Apothecarium!". At that point the King gets fired up and you have time to rez the dead if need be. King Varian Wrynn then storms off after Thrall and everyone follows him to the throne room in the Royal Quarter of Undercity.

Tried it yesterday, but seems to be bugged. The battel just never starts. Hope they will fix soon, really looking forward to completion.

Did it today and it worked fine, this is possibly the best quest in World of Warcraft, ever.

They still need to correct 2 things:

1. The big worm boss at the start of the event in the sewers can pretty much one shot anyone (30,000 damage ability). You can run back and wait for the worm to be dead before accepting your res, so it's not a big deal. It's annoying though.
2. When you target King Varian Wrynn throughout the event, he's labelled as "Unknown".

Hope it's fixed before release, because this quest is so amazing and those two little details seem so easy to fix, it would be too bad to let them spoil what could be a perfect quest.

After the message that the man hunt had begun came we waited another 5 min or so. Then we made a gm-ticket. Then after another 20 min it just randomly started...

Don't start this with less than 20 minutes of play time remaining. The event itself is quite long, scripted, and there is a (pointless) 5 minute delay at the start.

If you try solo on a lowish-HP, poorly geared character, expect to spend much of the event on a corpse run. The problem stems from the fact that some of the bosses can hit for more damage than the King heals. Since everything does insane damage, you have few options for healing yourself. The best strategy seems to be not aggroing anything. Just let your party do all the damage, and stay out of the path of new adds.

If/when you do start taking damage, stay very close to the king. Some of the elites will pull you towards them. If the fighting is well-spread, they can pull you out of range of healing, and you'll die in about a second. Since you can't see where the fight is when dead, there is a good chance you will res', only to be instantly slaughtered again.

So this may or may not be the best quest ever. I suspect it depends on how much you actually see.

I died just as the Putress died. There is a very long run back to the Apothecary room. By the time I got back I'm not sure what happened, I guess the king lost in the throne room. I got ported back to SW without completing the quest. Now I'm writing this as I'm waiting for the ultra-pointless 5 minute wait before the event begins again. The event takes way too long and unless the fight the king does that I haven't seen yet is ultra-cool this quest kinda sucked so far (Great chain leading up to it though). Wearing your pvp gear may help against getting crit. Also Putress tosses blight barrels, make you stay out of the fog it creates, that is what killed me and is probably one of the only things that can kill you there.

I believe this is a quest you want to do when there's a lot of people.. I soloed it and it took forever and wasn't very epic. Hopefully next time I get a chance to do it there will be more than just me doing it.

WORKAROUND

Have a tank run in with a healer or 2 (the mobs hit hard) and pull some of the Horde mobs outside towards where the alliance are standing. Sequence started right away when we did this.

Just finished this chain, probably the most epic and lore related chain I have ever seen in Warcraft. I really feel that Blizz has outdone itself this time, and that Wrath is just so much better than Burning Crusade ever was. Here's to the Alliance and the Horde!

Seriously, this IS definately the coolest quest ive ever done. You get to fight alongside the two greatest lords of the Alliance and take part in something which obviously plays a huge part in the story. No quest walking down some steps and killing 20 trolls can compare to it, if you only do one thing before you quit wow, it should be this.

Also i somehow died once, you ARE able to run back to your body with ease

According to the previous comments, it seems like a buggy event, however im glad this quest didnt bug for me, kind of. Oh and - Might contain SPOILERS! :p

As a druid, I went to Undercity through the Portal, it said the Sewers and Apothecary were both secured, so I ran in, faced few mobs, died, ran in again, and restealthed.

Suddenly, the event reset, and it said something like "Undercity is under control of Undeads", it should read before the whole event started. It was some-sort-of "Oh shi-" situation, when the mobs respawned in the sewers, however I managed to bypass them in Catform under the effect of Prowl.

Then I went back outside, talked to Varian Wrynn, stood there for over 5minutes (Around 7-10 minutes, more precisely), and the event started. I got these +dmg, +health buffs, and spammed 4k mangles. Totally awesome, best quests ever made.

Avoid getting this quest bugged through.

Quest remains quite buggy. Once, I arrived when it said "The manhunt has begun!" and waited for 10 minutes without the king moving. Second time I attempted it, I had to manually ride from WPL to Undercity since the portal in the King's room wouldn't work for me, and then started the event. After 5 minutes, it went back to "The manhunt has begun!" but the King didn't move. Waited an additional 10 minutes, then went back to questing in Northrend.

The quest bugged for me too. The timer runs out after 5 minutes and then nothing happened. I hearthed out only to find that you can't take the portal to Undercity again. Just wait and see if it starts anyway. If you leave, you have to bug a GM to see if they can allow you to finish the quest.

Currently I'm waiting to see if a GM can reset the previous quest for me so I can try again. I really wanted to see this and if I can't do this quest because it bugged on my I'm gonna be pretty bummed. =(

Just finished the quest. Best quest in the game but i was very dissapointed from one thing. When i got teleportet got the new quest and run down to appotecarium. All mobs where dead. When i reached Vryn i saw other players. apperently we where in the same event. So all i did is hit 2 times the mobs on final event and got teleported back to SW :(

An absolutely awesome quest chain, although at the end when we returned to the throne room, I shocked an RPer who was standing there by slapping and spitting on the king. The RPer was only level 42, so he hasn't seen this quest chain. Let's just say that I'm fully in Jaina's camp.

If you abandon the quest, you can get it back by running to tirisfal glades "manually". Really annoying but at least it works.

I started the quest and nothing happened, so I decided to run in and found the King and Jaina with 2 other guys doing the quest. I followed them and got it done.

Do not I repeat Do not port out for any reason once you are there. Make 100% sure you are ready and you have the time and items/repair you need. Because once you leave you can't get in until it resets(That's what the GM told me). Which means sitting there waiting which could take all day on full to locked servers because there's always someone doing this quest

Well here's some lore for ya.. In the comic book series you learn that King Varian Wrynn lost his memory, and fought in an arena , which would explain the scars on his face*pretty much like the gladiator*untill he made an escape, remembered who he was, and returned to stormwind.

Recommend not wandering off from the king and jaina to explore, I got a bit bored at that one spot where you kill waves forever, realized this was a bad idea when i lost the buffs and tried to find them again. I couldn't. It took 20 minutes and 35g in repairs corpse running my butt out of there. Moral of the story, be patient and stick with the group.

I had the same problem with Wyrnn running off after defeating the Apothecary. He just vanishes, there is no way to catch up with him if you don't start running as soon as he does and if you have to stop and look up where Thrall is (since there is no indication in-game), they both disappear and you have to abandon the quest, run out, die on the way, spirit rez and wait for the quest to start again so you can re-take it.

Yeah I was one-shotted by Grand Apothecary Putress. When you're in the room with him, clearing out the trash mobs around him, careful with the AOE. If you have any sort of, say, explosive trap or other damaging area up when he aggros, well. He doesn't appreciate it. I was dead before I saw what happened, but luckily had grouped with a pally, who ressed me after they killed Putress through tears of laughter.

Helpful Hint: I figured since I was elite and had so much health and was gaining it back so fast, that I could afford to switch from seal of command to seal of the martyr. I was correct in that it would not kill me for 95% of the event. However, I did die due to the worm putting out a nasty aura and then eating me, causing me to get too low then dying.

Also, I managed to die again due to the aura of the worm and the split second that the buff the king gives did not apply after taking the res. So for pallys or mages, if you manage to die, bubble right away if your fighting so you can live long enough to get under the kings graces again.

Its fun to see the massive damage you can do with SotM, since there is a ton of aoe, but I would not recommend using it in the worm event. The king cannot keep up if you are giving it your all. BTW, I did not notice taking durability loss, but I was not really paying attention to say for sure.

I play almost exclusively alliance and I love the epicness of the quest. I hate the fact that the king of stormwind is acting like a 3 year old. I honestly don't wanna turn the quest in.

when jaina yelled stop after killing putress, i stopped...and the king kept running... i ended up wandering around the undercity for like 5 minutes finally making my way back near where i was when i was promptly frozen and teleported back to stormwind with the quest completed. lucky!

2. When I first did the quest I lost the king so I wandered off a bit for my own. I ended up in the room where sylvanas windrunner usually hangs out in the real UC, i got hungry and decided to eat dinner. When i got back to the computer about 20 mins later i had been tped to SW and had the quest on complete. <3<3<3<3

Hint to warlocks, however tempting it seems to use Hellfire, don't use it! The added spelldamage will burn yourself to a crisp within one or two seconds!
Not that any damage you do will affect what's happening in any way anyway :P

FYI - you can fish in Orgrimmar to get credit for "The Fishing Diplomat" achievement without having to worry about being ganked. :) And you could also stick around and try to fish up Old Crafty as well :)

Well I died while fighting that Putress fella. I waited thinking Jaina would res me but she didn't :(

I managed to run back and nearly got completely lost before I realise something:

I believe You only get the flag above your head when you 're walking in the right direction (ie where that king dude walked).

As soon as you stray from where he has walked you lose the buff.

So I did a bit of walk this way , check for flag buff , walk that way . check for flag buff etc etc

I did not have to abadon and start the quest all over again cause I eventually found Kingy :D

I logged before I started the quest. Logged back in when I was ready to do it and the King and Jaina were gone. Thought I had to reset it somehow so I abandoned the quest and went back to SW to the King to get it. I have yet to figure out how to get it again. Please help! Thanks...

In defense of Varian, if you read the World of Warcraft comics you will understand where all this hate for the Horde comes from. the WoW comics, which have Blizzard's full support(i've talked to the writer several times at cons), details what happens to Varian, and why he acts as he does at the end of this quest. It's entirely likely that he will realize it was stupid as he is a very intelligent person, yet acts on instinct a lot, just like the Horde in many instances.

As epic as this quest is, this part and the dragon part are making me hate it. On this one, I died at Putress, one-shotted as well despite the 40k hp, and when I ran back in he was dead... so that was one death. Then Wrynn is IMPOSSIBLE (unless you're mounted) to follow when he runs for Thrall, and if you've never been to UC, you get lost and end up not being able to complete it. Thought I'd wait it out in the Royal Chamber but no luck, had to go back in the sewers where I died again, and a third time when I tried to corpse run, so you're forced to Spirit Rez. Absolutely horrendous quest design by Blizzard on this one - great idea but terrible execution.
Not to mention that 5 minute timer to start serves no purpose. A whole hour to complete without a single XP.

Just did this one. Was so confused, ported, no king, nothing. Went to the bathroom and came back and there he was. Talked to him, waited 5 minutes and off we went. He is fast.

This was a blast, 3 man raid on UC ;) I had recount on and I was avg 4500 dps and had over 45,000 HP

I've done this quest on two characters so far, and I haven't fought the Engorged Blight Worm once. I have been there for the entire time both times. Waves of undead mobs are coming at us in the sewers when suddenly they just stop and I see the giant Worm pop out of the ground for a second and then fade away.

Is that how it is supposed to happen?

Careful you have some speed pots and such for after the apothocary. If someone else is waiting Wrynn speeds off, and if you don't catch up to him quick, it all resets and you have to go through the twenty year long wait & speech all over again.

I really got into it and added my own lines in. Lame, yes. But I could'nt help myself, such fun!

Getting a chance to chop some heads off and doing 8k dmg was great! A dream come true!

Apart from the fact that I lost King Wrynn up the stairs after he heard Thrall was around, and ended up going around for 18 mins (by which time the quest had reset) until I found The Sewers and got myself killed by a few bad boys so I could rez back at the starting point...i simply LOVED it!

More cinematics and more of these epic battles please!

I actually died...twice! This was on my Alliance Mage and both times at the Putress fight. I was just arcane explosion the adds, my health and mana bars barely flinching, than suddenly my health goes to zero and I died. The same thing happened a second time. At least it was a fairly quick run to my body.

I had previously done this on my Horde Hunter. It's pretty neat to experience this awesome quest line from both sides. I do think the Horde version is better.

I am in total agreement with Firegauntlets. This has got to be the most epic questline and battle Blizzard has done for WoW. If you do nothing else on your server at least get WotLK and do this quest line. I had already replaced my legs with better ones from Grizzley Hills but the fight and being near these great leaders and figures was fantastic.

Word of warning to anyone intrested in seeing all the fluff through.

At the end when Thrall and Saurfang sit down on the steps in the throne room, they start talking to each other about *something* and there is the quest completion mark above thralls head, handing it in will teleport you straight too org meaning you miss whatever the two of them have to say, guess I'll have to wait till I get my second character into northrend to see what it was all about :/

This should be flagged as a Raid quest. :p

I took the quest and ran in and whole hallway had Alliance NPC's at the sides.
When you actually get into a fight with one of the guards you're just doomed. You will be in combat and most likely die.
What happens next is that you run back while the Alliance forces are trying to kill the UC guards. When the guards are dead they respawn right away.
At that point also everything else that normaly guards UC is also alive and you can see a big fight going on outside UC.

Managed to get killed by putress, the event ended and then the undead controlled UC again. Ress sickness and 10 min later, had to start all over... THE HORROR. All this to say that you don't have to abandon the quest or anything, just tank to wrynn outside and start again. gl

As of this writing, you can still complete your fishing achievements in a phased Orgrimmar as long as this portion is dropped before the last battle.

After talking with Broll Bearmantle, I initiated the first part of this and cleared the UC tunnel. At this point though, I abandoned the quest and headed to Org. I thought I was out of luck for sure, but after entering past the first few guards, it phased making the achievement process a whole lot easier.

I'll probably get marked down for this (seeing how im against the popularity - im about to stand up for the human king) but hey we all have our own opinions. please know that im not the typical guy that thinks horde: evil and ally: good etc etc etc. i see both as good fighting for azeroth - they just have their common misunderstandings and hatred.

im amazed at how some think varian is a failed king and such. i dont think any half descent human being can even hold back his temper against the horde, a group of races when he has:
- seen his father been killed by them (granted not the horde, but a race that belongs to that faction)
- heard that fordragon got killed because of an uprising within the horde.
- seen how a human kingdom was turned into well.. a place like the undercity.. nuff said..
- if any of u guys read the novels, how his own and the other human kingdoms were attacked - and some got destroyed - by the horde.
- etc.

anger and hatred do tend to come out after all these things happen

What an amazing questline, Like many other's, I wasn't happy about Wrynn's dash to fight with the Horde although he was shouting off about being a prisoner of theirs and being made to fight in their arena's so I suppose he did have a reason for his madness.

I did this on my own and basically stayed beside the King and Jaina the whole time. I wasn't sure what was going on at the end when we went to battle the horde except that the battle started and then I was inside a block of ice in SW keep. Obviously missed Jaina saying the bit about stopping the fight and teleporting everyone back.

The battle's with the Worm and Putress seemed to take a while as the Worm pulls you into it's pit and you get stuck there for so long till it throws you back out again. With Putress i must have gotten knocked back half a dozen times but ran straight back into the fight each time to keep the aura on me.

Just on a side note, When I took the Shield back to SW I walked all the way to the king from the portal as I felt riding would be rushing it and disrepectful to Bolvar's memory as a hero of the Alliance.

Also, Did anyone else think that Bolvar's stand at the Wrath Gates was similar to Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings at the Black Gate. Except that Aragorn didn't die of course. And with Dragon's instead of Eagles at the end.

I got really irritated by this quest. As a mage, there was very little to do but spam Arcane Explosion or Blizzard the whole time. The boss fights were pretty boring as well. No risk of death means no excitement. To top it all off, I missed Varian running out of the room after killing Putress and I missed the whole last scene because I couldn't catch up with him. I admit, I should have been on my guard for something like this to happen, but one momentary lapse in concentration cost me the whole scene with Thrall. I hope I can repeat it.

Although I might be crucified for saying this, I believe this was pretty shoddy game design from Blizzard. They could have done alot better.

While Varian was obviously being spiteful and vindictive in this case, it makes me laugh when people talk about how much more warlike the Alliance is than the Horde. The Alliance has maybe...three quests that deal with trying to screw with the Horde (not counting the stuff in Ashenvale, since that's both factions and they are obviously warring with one another)? Horde has quests to attack the Alliance in almost every zone. Horde has quests to kill civilians, poison people, rez elites in a lower level zone, etc.

Even in this case, Varian wandered into Undercity, where the Forsaken have been using captured humans as guinea pigs and killing them for sport for years and years. Clearly their opponents intentions were not honorable battle, regardless of whatever personal setbacks they have suffered.

Now true, it's mostly the Forsaken whose quests revolve around being evil and antagonistic (although the orcs do have their share, at least most of them are pretty straightforward, and don't revolve around the wanton and intended slaughter of innocents), but the fact that they are tolerated by the other factions implicates them as well. Tolerating atrocities out of convenience rather than actual belief in what they are doing doesn't make you better.

I don't think the Alliance is all peaches and cream or anything, but there is far less of an agenda to antagonize or kill the horde in their zones and quests (this is in WoW, I have never played other Warcraft games). I see people saying Alliance is the more warlike faction all the time. I have played them both pretty extensively and that is not even close to true.

If there is anyone who hasn't done this yet. Here's two tips I would have hoped someone told me before doing this quest:

First: Try to get into a group for this quest. Even one additional player is a plus. It is effortless to solo but, judging from the boss mechanics, the event was designed with larger group of participants in mind. Solo players will find themselves spending a lot of time incapacitated or flying mid-air during boss fights.The Blight Worm boss will literally try to eat up the fun from this quest if soloed(Can someone confirm if the target for the swallow effect is random if in a group?).

Second: For additional enjoyment, depending on your personal preferences, make sure you toggle scrolling combat text on/off before starting the quest. Especially during Grand Apothecary Putress battle AOE abilities will generate absolutely blinding walls of BIG NUMBERS when hitting the little oozes, which is hilarious to me but I guess some people might find annoying not being able to see anything else on the screen.

We've got to remember the reason to the Kings hate towards the "green-skins" (orcs). He was held captive for several years by them, and have witnessed horrors done by orcs day in and day out.

For anyone who made the same dumbass move I did and just ran into the cave wondering, "How do I get to the boss?" Go back and talk to King Wrynn all the way back outside. It will then take forever for him to go in, I guess he has to make up his mind. Then all you have to do is follow him, kill mobs, and that's about it. It's all really easy. My health never budged from 100% for more than half a second.

At the end, I have no idea what happened to King Wrynn. He vanished. Then a few minutes later Jaina vanishes. I just hung out there, because if I started to leave the flag I was carrying would disappear. Then the quest was complete.

IMPORTANT: if you show up for this and King Wrynn is not there, DO NOT accept the quest (or drop it if you did), and just wait for the current running of it to end. Then when Wrynn and Proudmoore are back and the "enemy controls the Undercity", you can take the quest and experience the full awesomeness.

What happens now?

I thought I would go back to the gate in DB, just to find the firey ruins still were there? I was going back figuring everything would be reset the way quests usually do and see Bolivar standing next to the desk..is this the end of the quest chain? and...do other players in the game see what I see?

Something else does not make sense to me...the Horde and the Alliance were fighting together to rid Arthas. The scourge comes along and pretty much kills everyone, why then, did the alliance kill the Horde king in the undercity, was it the Horde Apocathary (sp) that had something to do with the scourge? Thank you for your input :)

This quest is amazing fun, yet at the same time will murder your armor durability. Went in with pretty close to full durability on my mage, came out with broken chest, boots, gloves, and wrists, with yellow helm and legs. The battle with Putress is particularly bad, with the dozens of adds at any given time.

I accepted the quest, but immediately logged out before it started. When I logged back on, nobody was there, and a message something like "The Alliance is fighting through the sewer" (or something like that) was at the top of my screen. DON'T DO THIS, but I first rode into the city via the main entrance, and ran around for ten minutes, going nowhere, before I read here to enter the sewers at 50, 69

A little bit into the sewer I found everyone fighting some huge worm, which I helped finish off, then it was on to Putress, which took a while, but my health never dropped below 75%. Then it was on to Thrall, which was actually a quicker fight

Immediately after the fight was over, I saw COMPLETE on the screen, then it whisked me back to Stormwind where I received the sweet reward.

Overall, while time consuming, it was actually pretty easy. I get the feeling Blizzard gimped this after initially finding that it was way too difficult to solo, but too important to force people to get a group (I know that I rarely do group quests). The whole chain is a nice break from the usual grind, and it's appreciated.

So... I accepted this quest, never finished it, and deleted it from my journal. I'm now phased out of the Undercity (i.e. there are no horde around, just the quest npc's). Since this game is World of WARcraft, i think that there should, and will always have to be conflicts to make it interesting. Otherwise it would be World of Hippy-Peace-Craft or something haha
Theres always got to be wise leaders (Thrall), bitter leaders (Varian), careless leaders (Garrosh), steadfast leaders (Bolvar), etc... These differences and conflicts are what makes the game interesting... PvP wouldnt feel right at all, if the horde and alliance were at peace the whole time...

Ive played on both sides of the fence.. Horde and Alliance, and loved em both the same. More power to them both, i say.

Something happened when I did this quest on 6/12/2009. Their was no big worm for us to fight. We fought a ton of the abominations but no worm appeared their. We were able to continue on and kill Putress and finally face Thrall but we never ended up facing the worm.

Because i never walk inside Undercity, i walk totally wrong, fell in one of deep gates (with spikes) revive there continue walking to the place Apothecarium, but cannot find the way.... walk up to Sewers, but there are elite enemies. Don't go there.
And the mistake is to fall down... you're at wrong side!

I'm still searching for the way to Varian..... i hope i can find the way inside unknown Undercity. :(
I feel so stupid...

1. If you walk through main entrance, you cannot go down safe. Only 3 deep falls at the end inside there you die for sure. Thus, main entrance is not good idea.
2. Spirit Healer is near main entrance.
3. The entrance to sewers is near the questgiver.... a hole in the wall there...

The sewers way has many enemies with some elites. If there are alliances, fight with them.
Once you're in Canals, it's a lot safe. Go right, follow way. You see dead bodies on your way.
If you're in the middle of Apothecarium, you see entrance to Royal Quarter.

But... you must not run already forward.
Wait near questgiver.... just wait... until Manhunt counter say it starts. You shall see Varian and you got blue flag at your back. The epic fight can begin.
Stay near Varian if you want stay alive. You may fight, but not really needed. He can do all the work.

When i think about it, i realized Undercity is pretty sure different build from real UnderCity. You cannot go down easy by yourself, there is only way via Sewers and it's all about quest. You must wait for him!

This is an amazing quest. I have done it 3 times (with all 3 of my characters, hunter, DK and mage). I really enjoyed it with my mage. Please note that you can die in the quest. I died 4 times with my mage. All you have to do is run back to your corpse. The fights are long, so you have ample time to run back. One thing I noticed was when I did the quest with my hunter, I was going out of mana a lot and had to use aspect of viper. But as a mage, I seemed to have infinite mana pool. Anyone else observe this? I just kept pouring blizzard after blizzard. It was a blizzard fest (Jaina Proudmorea was also doing a lot of frost and blizzard attacks). It is really nice to see your frostbolts hitting for 20k+ damage and get an overall dps of 20k+.

After knowing and seeing all the facts surrounding wrynn, and it having been said before wotlk came out that he was to be like the Anti-Thrall, I can quite honestly say... no. Complete and utter rubbish!

The comparisons are, well Wrynn was locked as a slave to a group of orcs not directly held in account to the horde, he was only held as that for, what, a couple of years at best?
Thrall however was take as a baby, raised as a slave by blackmoore and only gained his freedom when he was around the age of 18, his entire childhood and teens spent as a slave to blackmoore.

Wrynn lost his parents, his mother in childbirth and his father to a manipulated Garona, but he still was raised as a prince in lorderon by his uncle.
Both Thralls parents were murdered when he was a baby and never even got to know either of them.

Varian's wife died in the stonemasons riots, but he still had his son.
Thrall lost his only human friend who he cared for when she was beheaded.

All this and more facts weighed up, what I see are people actully trying to compare Thrall's tragic past as the same as Varians, and say there the same, which is so blatantly isn't. Thrall has suffered more tragidy and lose when Wrynn has, but its Thrall who has turned out the leader who rules with fairness and dignity, well Wrynn turned out as a messed up, irrational zealot.

While doing this quest i came across a bug. It may just be my computer but can anyone tell me if this has happened to them?

After Lady Jaina says: Varian, stop! I won't help you do this!
Nothing happened. I heard King Varian tell of the war cry, and "To the throne room!"
After which i did not see anything but my health was regenerating and from time to time i was frozen by nothing.

I wish i had seen the whole thing as its a great quest, and quest line.

Just a note to Hunters (I dont know about other pet classes) you may want to dismiss your pet, because it does not get the buff you do.
My pet died over and over and over and.... well you get the point. As I am a BM hunter I lost the buffs that came with my pet too...

I had this quest bug out because like a previous poster I looked away for 2 seconds because my dog was knocking something over and Varian was gone. I spent 10 minutes looking for him and I couldnt find him, by the time the event ended I recieved no credit and had to do the quest over again. To add insult to injury, I had to let myself die a painful death in order to escape since the entire undercity repopped. I recommend that if you are going to do this quest, you are highly attentive during it.

Be aware, before you start this chain, that from Reborn From The Ashes onwards (and possibly before) it puts you in a 'time warp' around the horde cities involved, meaning that:

a) you can safely go fishing to get the achievements

b) you can't complete any of the 'horde killing' achievements in undercity etc

c) you can't complete any other quest around the cities - for example the Crashing the Wickerman Festival quest has no wickermen to burn... (unless this has changed since I last tried :) )

Tried doing this quest this morning. Takes about 30 mins.

Got all the way to the lower levels and helped pummel the Big Boss man into the ground.

The the king legged it shouting something about the Horde. Jeina said, "im not going with you as you stink", or some such and just stood there. so I just stood there too.

Mistake.

When the King runs off to battle the Horde run after him.

5 Mins of waiting for him later then I decide to try and find him. Couldn’t. Went up to the sewer and ended up getting owned by re generated mobs about 3 times before I realised what I should of done. Quest Abandoned. Then had to come to work. Most upsetting

So! Follow the king people. Follow the king…

PLEASE EVERYONE DO THIS QUEST LINE! you are gonna love it it is so mega fun i did it myself and maaan some nice quests (and nice cutscene) and the last quest you get mega exp for them and when i were in undercity (last q) there were 5 others doing it it was very funny becuz i though you were alone in there for each quest taker and when you are in ogrimmar you can just run out of ogrimmar and then no horde attacks nobody it was very fun to just run around in the hordes so do it and you are gonna love me maan so bummer i cant do them all again :(

i got A LOT of glitches when i was doing this quest like when we come out of the sewers i keep getting disconnected and i kept getting disconnected when i log in with the character that has the quest. All my other characters log in fine so i know i the quest was the problem. When i finally got logged in after countless of tries i found myself in the middle of a mob of elites and the king and jaina was nowhere to be found so i did not have the powerful buff and i kept dying :( . i came back to life with the spirit healer and i found them and i retried the quest. I then did the quest again and got THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN! Now i can never finish this quest because it keeps happening over and over again! I hope blizzard fixes this soon. And apparently this glitch only happens to me!

Before you talk to King Varian Wryn, You can do the Explore Tirisfal Achivement.

Unless you're really interested in WoW lore, this quest is a complete waste of time. If you're the kind of person who doesn't read quest texts, don't bother.

First you have to wait 5 minutes before the battle starts. Then you sit through a serious of tediously long fights while affected by a buff which means there is no chance you could ever die, so there's no skill involved. The whole thing takes about half an hour, and if you lose the King you'll have to do it again.

The quest reward is a mediocre blue and just enough gold to cover your repairs.

ok after having to do this THREE TIMES thought I'd share my stupidity with you all.

first make sure you talk to Varian Wrynn, he'll then spout off for 5 mins or so before entering the Undercity by the sewer entrance which is right next to you (up the hill where the baddies are coming from!) - DON'T go through the main entrance because you think you've lost him and then spend 20 mins wandering round a deserted city.

I was unfortunate that no one else started the quest so I couldn't join someone elses and you can't get out, the lift is broken and if you go out the sewer entrance you will die - at least I did, so I then realised I'd never find my body and even if I did I'd obviously done something wrong so I rezzed (you don't need to wait for the sickness to go because by the time you've listened to him rant it's practically gone!)

2nd time I actually spoke to Varian, followed him right to the end (he doesn't go too fast and you can't die if you stick with him) but when he went after Thrall I lost him, wasn't watching. After a couple of mins I portalled automatically back to SW but the ? was still grey and I couldn't hand it in.

3rd time I used the portal back to The Undercity, spoke to Varian stuck to him like glue right to the end FINALLY got ported back to SW to Varian with a yellow ?

I'm not a big Lore nerd but the whole Dragonblight quest chain leading up to this one is was really interesting, shows what a *** Wrynn is and why no one likes him!

I was stupid and i followed the quest helper arrow I ended up getting completely lost too, so I abandoned the quest and hearthed. Luckily I got the quest back but I wasn't able to use the portal in stormwind i had to fly there.

Have you noticed that he's a very bad alchemist/scientist/what ever. Because when you fight him in the quest The Battle For The Undercity, he summons literaly hundreds of Failed Experiments. Hope there's a school for bad alchemists after death!

The buffs you get are outstanding. As a level 72 feral druid, I was doing 5.5k+ dps by spamming Hurricane on the trash mobs in the sewers and in Putress' room.

Unfortunately I had a really bad experience with this quest :(

Ok, during all my questing I usually leave the dungeon finder open and i break up my questing with dungeons etc for variety and items etc.. anyway it popped up in the middle of the attack in the sewers and it didn't say I couldn't leave at this time so I went, except when I came back the whole thing had reset and I didn't have strength of the Wrynn anymore and I was stuck in the middle of all these elite npc's and couldn't get back out again. So after I died I had to get the angel to ressurect me and suffer the resurrection sickness + the repair bill.

Then is got worse, on my second attempt when King Varian took off for the throne room I stayed thinking I had to talk to Jeina to finish the quest but when I realised she didn't do anything and I was meant to help the king fight the horde (even though I didn't really want to cos he sounded like a prick) he had gotten too far ahead and I lost him and then didn't know where to go because its not marked on the map. While trying to look for him, I again lost the strength of Wrynn and then the instance reset so I was unable to get out yet once again and died to some patrols + had to resurrect again.

Finally after 40G of repairs I was able to do the whole instance all over again for the 3rd time and receive the reward. It could have been fun (I loved owning all those mobs with AoE), just don't leave the area or log out for any reason because its an instance and will reset. Never lose sight of the king or you are screwed if you run into any of the mobs down there without the strength of Wrynn or if you could simply just get lost without him showing you where you are meant to go unless you know the undercity well enough.

Varian=Beserker. While I prefer Thrall to Varian (yes, I'm Alliance and like Thrall more. Deal with it.), it was clear who would have won the fight. With Varian in the frothing blood frenzy he was in, he probably would have taken some one with him, most probably Thrall, as Varian hates him the most. That would leave the Horde under Garrosh even sooner. And no one likes him...

This has been said before, but I'll add my experience...

I forgot I had done Wrathgate on my Druid. So, I run out to Trisifal to do Scarlet Monastery (I don't have that achievement yet for some reason) and noticed something was up when I didn't see any NPCs (Western Plaguelands side). I had long abandoned the trailing quest so the screen top text was my indicator. I checked my achievement log and there was Wrathgate staring at me. :D Well, I ran out (Done on DK already) met the King, and Jania (why is she around? Tyrande was busy?) and did the quest. Except for the fact that I had to do the running from the Plaguelands again, I enjoyed doing the quest fromt he Alliance standpoint. (DK is a Blood Elf)

My tip?
Check your achievements before you decide to go do SM. :)

It also helps if you have a Horde toon long before this quest. I have had to be the "TomTom" for many a raid group that simply didn't know where the faction leaders are for the Horde. Having knowledge of the city layouts is always helpful. More so on this quest as Wyrnn doesn't always take the most logical path.

i love how most of you are taking this seriously.1. its just a game. Wrynn is mad cause one of his closest friends died at the wrathgate from the hand of the scourge. Wrynn did take it the wrong way cause the split between the scourge. He is only mad due to the loss of kingdom and he pins it on the horde cause the scourge is on their side.

I stay with the King the entire time, well up until I die anyhow. I've died a couple times since the buffs couldn't keep up with the damage I took. If you die, don't abandon quest. You can go to Stormwind and take the portal again to start over.

Okay so i was power leveling, and i did some of these quests but i cant seem to pick up any on the way, i would really like to get vetren and do the battle for the undercity.......... i droped the next quest but it was so long ago i cant remember what quest it was, any ideas as how to find where the chain picks up again?

I did this quest almost all the way to the end, I got to Wrynn saying, "Look around you...." And then I dc'ed. I was unable to log back in for several hours. When I got back in I was in the room where Putress was and I was all alone. I wandered around for a bit looking for the king and no where to be seen. So I hearthed out and went through the portal in SW again. No King. And it never "completed". I abandoned the quest and now I cant pick it up again. Anything I could have missed to pick the quest up again? I'd love to do it again, It was a lot of fun. And I want those legs!

For all of the horde out there, Wrynn has had a traumatic life being enslaved by the horde and being brought up as a gladiator basically for sport and the amusement of the horde. At Undercity Wrynn was full of emotion because he just avenged his murdered friend and many good men, as he is standing there he can see exactly what is going on, the Forsaken making new plauge which is very dangerous and to top it off its in a place that used to be a great alliance kingdom similar to what Stormwind is now. He hates the fact that these undead who are partnered with the horde are defiling the once glorious kingdom. At least this is what I understand. If I am wrong anywhere somebody please correct me. Thank you.

This may very well be the best quest I've ever done. The feeling of fighting alongside a pissed of king whom beats the *!@# out of pretty much anything is absolute! The buff that you get isn't so bad either, since you can't die.

Tips for completing this quest? Just get comfortable and prepare to kick ass.

Same problem with the people above me, I thought the quest was stuck after I went the wrong way and died to a guy that looks like lord kazzak. So I went to get my body back which took a while and the event was going on somewhere with people yelling and i didn't know what was going on. I abandoned the quest hoping I could start it right this time, so I hearthstone out went back to SW keep and it wouldn't let me in the portal to get the quest from Broll Bearmantle. Is there another place I can find this guy or is there no other way for me to complete this quest. I really want to know the story and the items aren't bad either.

Damn shame they removed this part of the questline when Cataclysm came out.

When you get to the part where Putress betrays the Horde and kills Alliance and Horde soldiers alike. You find now that the quest line comes to a very abrupt ending.

All Blizzard had to do was phase the Stormwind Throne room like they did before Cataclysm.

Just remove and add characters appropriate to what time the storyline was taking place.

The same with Orgrimmar. Phase out Ogrimmar's Throne room, remove Garrosh and put back in Thrall as the leader. Its not like they removed his old character model, they are still using one of the old ones for one of the Sands of Time instances.

This could easily be done since they did phasing of much bigger and difficult proportions, but of course Blizzard is famous for neglecting old expansions and its content.

I figure if new players had to pay the same amount I had to for this expansion, should they have access to all the same content that I and many others got to do?

I'm really annoyed that this quest line has been removed. It was one of the first quest lines that really felt epic in scope and blizzard removed it because they were too lazy to create an instance or phazing mechanic to accommodate it. They give some craptastic excuse about it not following the current time line, but they leave in the cut scene featuring the Lich King and the battle before the wrath gate, which doesn't follow the time line at all. I really love what they've done with Cataclysm, but it feels like they're abandoning Outland and Northrend when they would rather just yank a quest line instead of building a simple mechanic to accommodate it.

Did this questline on an alt yet again in MoP, and was still sad that I couldn't do the followup battle in UC. One would think Blizzard could easily put the remainder of the questline in a solo scenario.. since they are so fond of these nowadays (scenarios that is).
Oh well.

And while I'm onto scenarios, that could go for the entire Onyxia attunement chain as well, as it was back before WotLK. Loved it.

Why can't Blizzard make this a scenario? I've never played it but it looks amazing and now I do want to play it. Fighting along side Varian or Thrall whichever faction you are.
