The ninth and final school of magic is transmutation. It is among the most popular and useful of all the schools, allowing a mage to manipulate time and space. Perhaps the Most iconic Transmutation spell is Polymorph, which allows a mage to turn something - or someone - into something else. Fortunately for many of my students, the effects are not permanent. I've seen more than one unwary apprentice turned into a sheep, pig, or worse - don't even ask what that means.

The second most famous use for transmutation magic is teleportation. The most basic teleportation spell is blink, and it remains among the most useful. Blink can be used to quickly escape a foe - or save a mage who has accidentally fallen off a cliff. Do not attempt to use blink to escape falling to your death unless absolutely necessary. This is the king of trick you can only fail once.

Make absolutely certain you know your destination before attempting to teleport. There's a reason we have very specific spells to teleport to certain locations - attempts to cast a teleportation on the fly often result in one very dead mage inside a wall, chair, or another mage, and I don't mean in a fun way.

Spells that manipulate time also fall into this category. The ever-popular slow fall spell is an excellent alternative to falling to your death (and much more reliable than blink at this function). More advanced practitioners of the arcane arts can also learn a spell that slows the movements of their enemies. I've heard rumors of a spell that increases movement speed as well, but I've never seen it in practice.

Lady Jaina Proudmoore is a skilled practitioner of transmutation magic. She has developed a powerful variation of the popular mass-teleport spell that is capable of moving a significant percentage of her army with minimal effort. This spell helps make her extremely unpredictable on the battlefield.

this book spawned at 1:19 pm for me, and again at 4:50pm, so the theroy of a random spawn time between 3 and 4 hours works. both times it was the "funny book" tho :S

Books spawn within a one hour window that begins 3 hours after the previous book is read. Can occasionally go a few minutes over the 4 hour mark.

Each book spawns in exactly the same place. The real book is blue.

The books are on spawn timers anywhere from 3 hours to 4 hours

Each book only spawns in one location (so once you find it you do not need to keep checking that location)

Book spawn times are shared with non-achievement books (so you may see a book spawn and it will not be the one you need)

Each location seems to have 2-3 other books (non-achievement) which spawn in that location (randomly)

If you read the book it will disappear within 3min (resetting the spawn timer)

If you do not read the book it will disappear within 5min (resetting the spawn timer)

If an achievement book does spawn, more than one player can read the book and get the credit for reading it. (if they read it within 3min of the first person who read it)

When I find a book I announce it within trade chat so if other would like to read it they can (providing they can get to it within 3min)

Ask around if others are looking for books, group up, spread out to keep your eyes on multiple locations, share spawn timer info (this greatly reduces the amount of running around)

Location: Dalaran Visitor Center (52.2,55.5), on the floor to the right as you go in, in front of the little table with books on it

Location: Violet Citadel (30.9,46.3), group of bookcases on the right as you go in, Bottom of the left bookcase.

Location: Violet Citadel (26.5,51.7), Up the stairs to the left, on the floor in front of the bookcase, next to the sands of time portal.

Location: Threads of Fate (Cloth Armor shop)(43.6,47.1), Go up stairs out on the balcony on top of a crate to your right as you walk out onto the balcony.

Location: Violet Hold (64.5,52.8), as you go in head to the left and against the wall on the left crate, next to Archmage Timear.

Location: Violet Gate (Crystal Portal)(56.7,46.1), to your right as you enter (northern bookcase) on the floor in front of bookcase.

Location: Legerdermain Lounge (46.9,39.1), Upstairs west room, empty bookcase

Location: Legerdermain Lounge (46.9,39.8), 1st floor western bookcase near the door

alot of people wate for this book at the wrong book shelf... it spawns on the empty shelf near the door on the side of the magus commerce exchange. NOT on the empty shelf next to the stairs and the door on the side on the horde stuff.

I suggest you get an addon from Curse.com called Dalaran University. It’s simple to use and will help you keep track of when each book may spawn. Just keep in mind, books can spawn as a “real” or “fake” book in each specific location. A fake book that spawns counts (on timers) as a real book, so you will have to wait another 3-4 hours for a chance a real book will spawn.

I've been checking for this book now for over two months. It doesn't spawn for me. The only books that have spawned on rare occasions were fakes. I got all the other books easily, why not this one?

This was the last book I needed, and after an exhaustive wait here are the book spawn times I and my brother who helped me saw, with all being random books aside from the one I needed.

I have confirmed that all books respawn after a restart. We had rolling restarts just now, after 5 restarts on 2 hours, I got the last 3 books I needed. Kinda lucky, considering the chances of duds. :>

It's interesting to note that while the schools are clearly from D&D, teleportation spells are Transmutation and not Conjuration.

Has anyone else noticed that this says it is the "Ninth and final school"? From the achievement we can see that they list seven. I'm guessing from the book about Abjuration that Evocation is another school, I'm curious what the unlisted one is.

This is the last book I have left to get my Achievement for Higher Learning, but it never seems to be there, so I decided I wanted to camp the place.

I read a fake book at 13:30 and waited... And waited... And waited.. Until 16:40, when there suddenly was a book there.
Sure, it was another fake book, but now I know that it took 3 hours and 5-10 minutes until next spawn.

So when you find a fake book, come back 3 hours later and start camping then, instead of camping the whole time.

I've heard rumors of a spell that increases movement speed as well, but I've never seen it in practice.

Odd, but this seems to be a hint at the future spell Time Warp, which wasn't put into the game until Cataclysm. Looks like Blizz might have been planning it since the very beginning of Wrath.

Started finally going for this achievement to get the pet.

Day 1: I was lucky to have this book appear at 9.05am. A fake book didn't spawn until 3.48pm, and then another at 7.08pm. I was constantly doing laps of Dalaran to get the other books, and noticed a 7hr wait at another spawn spot too.

Day 2: Fake books all spawned at 7.06am, 10.41am, 2.13pm, 6.15pm, then the real book at 10.07pm.

Day 3: The real book appeared again at 10.46am, then a fake one at 2.23pm.

After a week or so with no luck, read about restart/shutdown spawn. With this info I found the book after last nights shutdown

Introduction says there are 8 schools of magic. This one implies there are nine. Well, apparently the 8th is Universal magic, but is "ninth" really a typo, or do we actually have another school of magic that Ansirem refers to by mistake?

Abjuration: Spells that protect, block, or banish. An abjuration specialist is called an abjurer.
Conjuration: Spells that bring creatures or materials to the caster. A conjuration specialist is called a conjurer.
Divination: Spells that reveal information. A divination specialist is called a diviner. Unlike the other specialists, a diviner must give up only one other school.
Enchantment: Spells that imbue the recipient with some property or grant the caster power over another being. An enchantment specialist is called an enchanter.
Evocation: Spells that manipulate energy or create something from nothing. An evocation specialist is called an evoker.
Illusion: Spells that alter perception or create false images. An illusion specialist is called an illusionist.
Necromancy: Spells that manipulate, create, or destroy life or life force. A necromancy specialist is called a necromancer.
Transmutation: Spells that transform the recipient physically or change its properties in a more subtle way. A transmutation specialist is called a transmuter.
Universal: Not a school, but a category for spells that all wizards can learn. A wizard cannot select universal as a specialty school or as a prohibited school. Only a limited number of spells fall into this category.

Spawned on my alt, read it. Switched to my mage.. portal to Dal, a minute and 15 seconds later I get there from weird loading screens. It is gone. QQ.
