For a level 52 elite, he's not an easy kill if you're melee. Has a fire nova and a fire blast, and he hits hard too. My 55 warrior just got toasted.

He is right outside the entrance to BRD, walks up and down the hallway (and at the sides).
He is HARD! I'm a 52 druid, got burnt up within 10 seconds. I don't think he's soloable.

Overmaster Pyron's level as of patch 2.3 has been oficially reduced to 51, but don't think he's any easier, he's just as hard as he was at 52. As a modestly geared level 53 hunter, he cooked my pet in about 20 seconds with all my cooldowns used. With my pet having some 150 fire resistance or so... I agree with Xodus, he's clearly not soloable. He's probably got the strength that of a boss in the actual instance. For anyone who didn't know his location, he patrols the sides of the hall right before entering Blackrock Depths. Good luck to anyone trying to solo him. ;)

Soloed today as a 54lvl frost mage. Pretty easy: i just summoned my water elemental and start nuking Pyron to get some aggro. Used Fire Ward/Ice Barrier several times till elemental despawned, then used Cold Snap and summoned him again :P

Did it on a 55 draenei enhancement shaman. Had to blow EVERY cooldown. Shamanistic Rage, Gift of the Naaru, Major Mana Pot. Started out by bursting with two lightning bolts and a shock. Kept laying down Grounding Totem to absorb the Fire Blast. Heal when he starts to do his AoE to avoid his interrupt. Hard, but doable.

Overmaster Pyron
patrols near the entrance of Blackrock depth.
He is an elite fire elemental with
11,000 health
.
He counts as a boss, and not just an elite. He is used for a quest with the same name as the mob
He is immune to
stun effects
He hit me for around
240dmg
with
20%
dmg reduction
He does a
Fire Nova
which hits really had - important to dodge!
I soloed him as a lvl 56 druid
what i did was:
HoTs then cat form
Dmged him in catform untill i had to heal - fire up my heals
then changed to bear form, to have better time to reg mana + i have the heal ability in bear form.
Then i used a pot and healed up(he was at 20% health at this point) changed to cat and killed him.
The key of the fight seems to be to dodge his fire novas. They have around 4 sec cast time(not 100% sure) so you have plenty time to dodge it :)
Gl with it

Just solo'd as a 58 combat rogue quite easily, had to use a superior healing potion because I wasn't paying attention for a second. With adrenaline rush this fight was very easy, dropped the cloak of fire pattern although I don't know if its still of any use.

The Fire Nova does hit pretty hard but if you turn and run as soon as you see the cast start, you can outrange it pretty easily.
Solo'd him as a 54 Fury warrior last night, with an Elixir of Brute Force (18 Stam/Str), Major Mageblood, Dense Sharpening Stones and one Major Healing pot. I used Bloodrage/Berserking and I think I popped Retaliation for the heck of it, but he's pretty squishy, so I just had to blow him down before that stupid fire damage got me.
I'm pretty twinked though, so I could imagine this being pretty tough if you're a non-healing class. Also, interrupts don't seem to work on him, though it didn't show as "Immune!" when I tried to Pummel his casts; it just didn't show anything in the combat log or on my scrolling combat text...

the reason he hits so hard is because hes an elemental so his normal hits dont count as physical damage but they count as fire damage. So have lots of fire resistance to solo this guy.

As a 52 combat/swords rogue I tried getting 5 CP on him, vanishing (keeping the combo points applied), then starting the fight with garotte, evasion, 5 point slice and dice, Chained Essence of Eranikus, adrenaline rush, super health pot, and sinister strike/eviscerate til dead ...
Didn't work. Get a group :)

So is it just me, or is his name a representation of Pyron, the firey world eater from Darkstalkers/Vampire Hunter? Maybe I'm wrong (there's probably some other place his name came from) but thats what it seems like to me.

suprisingly managed to solo him as a 51 balance druid. It took several tries but heres how i did it:
1. I opened up with force of nature in moonkin form for added treant dps with a faerie fire on him too
2. Get 2 starfires off before he starts beating on you since treants dont hold aggro well
3. start a healing wave at about60% so it gets off and will most likely heal you to full after it finishes
4. spam wrath when ur not healing and make sure your dots are up
5. use innervate if needed
rinse and repeat until dead took me like 4 tries to find the perfect strat even then with this one i went down to about 10% health and almost 10% mana trying ot kill the bugger. GL to everyone out there trying to solo him.
Oh and heres a link to my amory page just to show any disbelievers:(havent changed gear since i have soloed him)

This guy was easily soloable as a 54 BM hunter, i put my pet on him used mend pet popped Bestial Wrath, used my Devilsaur tooth (Reward from a hunter quest), also used rapid fire and downed easily with me pet at 75% health and myself at 100% health and 60% mana.

This was incredibly easy to solo as a 55 Retribution Paladin.
I had been putting off this quest based on the (outdated) info I read here, so I decided to give it a go at 55- and it was ridiculously easy.
Pyron hit for about ~300 in the beginning. I popped on my fire resistance aura and he hit for about 100 less, which I figured was sorta irrelevant so I switched back to retribution.
With Seal of Command on and Consecration running, I downed him in short order - with about 70% health left when he dropped. I'm almost certain I could've handled him at 51/52, with little trouble. I do a steady 200 dps, so I'm nothing special at this level, but Pyron was no big deal for me. I say give it a go as early as you can and get it out of your quest log.

I tried Pyron as a level 54 Resto Druid equipped in a set of feral(cat) gear I use for soloing. Got whooped three times before deciding he just did damage too fast for me to keep up with healing myself while still wearing him down.
I later found a level 54 hunter friend, switched into healing gear, and the two of us downed Pyron no problem. His pet wolf held aggro for about 1/2 the fight until the hunter did enough damage to pull Pyron off the wolf. Pets must have enough resistance that a single Rejuvenation was enough to keep the wolf healed up safely and I could contribute to DPS (Moonfire,Starfire) until Pyron went after the hunter. Then I just kept up heals on the hunter and Moonfire on Pyron while the hunter and his pet meleed Pyron to death. It was simple enough that we never in any danger of dying.
My two cents of observation are that the keys to killing Pyron most efficiently (when anywhere near appropriately levelled) are (1) Fire Resistance and (2) a friend. You don't necessarily need both, but you probably want at least one of the two.

The quest log says that he's in the quarry, but I found him in the masonry. Then again, it also claims he's in a dungeon, when he is in fact just outside of the dungon. BRD to be exact.

Overmaster Pyron is not at Searing Gorge @ 26,74.
He guards the entrance to Blackrock Depths.
The correct location is The Masonry @ 46,67.
To get there you have to go down the chains and pass through the dwarfs.

Soloable by a 50 frost mage, no heirlooms or amazing gear, just clever use of the surroundings, 2 elementals and an evocation. It took a few tries but if things get rough just zone into BRD. If he's gonna hit you, make sure you have Ice Barrier and Fire ward up. Good luck

Just soloed him on my 51 BM hunter. It was close though.
This guy will burn away your mana (no pun intended), so at first i had Aspect of the Hawk active and spammed Arcane Shot and Serpent Sting, as well as Multi Shot (damage bonus) and MEND PET!
After I lost more than half mana, swithed to Aspect of the Viper and did more mend pet and Intimidation/Bestial Wrath. Once he killed my pet (which is inevitable) he'll be down to about 3/4 health. From here, it is very easy to kite him because he is pretty slow, and he resisted my freeze trap. So here i switched back to Aspect of the Hawk and kited him down. took about a minute total. (I'm also dranei, so Gift of the Naaru doesn't hurt to have after healing potion is used). GL hunters.
obviously your gonna hafta clear out the corridor to kite him without aggroing the dwarves down there.

Solo'd him easily as an heirloomed level 52 balance druid. Typically just having both hots up at all times (stay in normal form) was enough to keep me in the green while spamming wrath away. I had to use innervate, but that was it for cooldowns.

58 affliction warlock here, so quite a level difference. Fight ended up being more straight forward that I expected. I was initially afraid of him because of his 11k HP.
Tried using
corruption
and
curse of agony
while
health funneling
the void walker, but the VW kept losing aggro so I retreated into BRD. After trying that a couple of times, I gave up and decided to stack
corruption
,
unstable affliction
, and
curse of agony
plus fire off any
shadow bolts
whenever I entered
shadow trance
and to hell with aggro. Doing this, I was able to
easily
drain-tank him with
drain life
and one shot of
death coil
when I got really low on health.

Pretty easy as a decently geared 52 retadin (mostly dungeon blues, a few greens, one world epic and Ice Barbed Spear, no heirlooms).
Fire Resist Aura's still pretty weak at that level, but any mitigation is good mitigation. Just throw everything you have at him until your health is dangerously low, bubble, heal, and keep the pain coming. He was well below 50% by the time I had to bubble.

Soloable as a level 50 prot pally in heirloom gear. Fire resist helps a bit with the Fire Nova he casts, which is the only thing he casts that really hurts. Had to use a mana pot when he was at about 25% so bring one along just in case :)

Solo'ed him as a feral bear level 54, after a couple of failed attempts. The trick was the

, which I still keep with me since Gnomeregan for these situations. Man, I love this thing, still makes you hit like a machine.
Taunted with
Faerie Fire
, when life was about half used
Barkskin
, healed, got back to bear form and continued the pummeling...

I don't know why people haven't tried the obvious...
Fire Protection Potion
. They will absorb a minimum of ~1000 damage, up to ~1600. They have a 1 minute cooldown but last 2 minutes. So pop one, wait for the cooldown to be up, then start the fight and when you start taking damage pop another fire protection pot - or use a major healing potion if you want. (whatever is cheaper) They are only about 100hp different.
If you want every scrap of advantage possible, use a
Magic Resistance Potion
first. Since it lasts for 3 minutes, wait for the one minute cooldown to be up and then take your Fire Protection Potion next. Once that one minute cooldown is up, you'll have 60 seconds of +50 magic resist, and the benefit of the Fire Protection Pot *and* you will still be able to use a healing potion or another Fire Protection Potion. If that's not enough, then you may need to leave this quest until you are stronger.
I did this fight as a feral druid. With 3/3 in the
Predatory Strikes
talent, all you need to do is get your 5 combo points up, then hit him with
Rip
. That will trigger the
Predator's Swiftness
buff, which makes your next nature spell an instant cast. So shift out of cat form, use Healing Touch if you are down 1400 health or more. If you are down less than that, use Regrowth instead so you don't waste it on overheal. After you cast that, cast Rejuvination, and then hit him with a Moonfire for good measure. Then shift back into cat form and repeat. Start getting those combo points up and when you have 5 again do the same thing. You should be able to do this 3 times and not run out of mana, and he should be dead by then.
Worst case scenario? If you die you have an excuse to grab the
Dark Iron Legacy
quest. (which requires you to be in ghost form.)

Managed as a 53 elemental shaman with BOAs. Frost shock kited him around one of the railings. He caught up a couple times when I jumped wrong, but frost shock slowed him down enough so that when he stopped to cast, I was out of range and had time to cast LHW. Earthbind does not work by the way.

I solo'd him as a lev 54 feral druid, He is difficult, but doable.
Here are some tips that may help if you are a feral druid DPS and find him too difficult.
1. Plan ahead. He hits hard, so make sure that you will have enough time to change form and heal if your health is getting low.
Make sure there are no mobs that could aggro nearby, as he is hard enough on his own.
2. Stealth and hit him from behind behind with a pounce, then immediately pop shred and then
mangle
3. It really helps if you have predatory strikes and primal fury maxed. Build up 4/5 combo points (the more the better). By that point, you should have been knocked down some health. Pop rip and then instantly switch into caster form and pop healing touch if around 1/4, Regrowth if around 1/2 hp, then back to cat form. This technique really saved my hide.
4. If your mana is getting low, when you switch to caster to heal, pop inervate. Don't let your mana run too low!
5. Have pots on hand 'just in case'.
Most of this fight is about timing, and not letting your health get too low. So if you are around 1/2 hp and dont have enough combo points, just switch to caster and use regrowth anyway. If you have DoTs going, you will still be doing damage.
Good Luck

I don't know if they buffed his speed or nerfed frostbolt and CoC but he seems way to fast to kite as a 51 frost mage. I've tried frost nova'ing him but he's immune, and I've tried kiting him with CoC but he always stays in melee range and smacks me down real quick with my sad 2500 hp. I do use Mage ward and Ice barrier and the pet but still seems way more difficult than any of my other toons had it.

Soloed as 52 prot warr in some 40`s blues and greens, no heirlooms. He left me with about 20% health but I didn`t had to pot. Still immune to stuns, and as far as I can see, to demo shout as well. A good idea would be to also pull a dwarf from nearby and cleave some to get a heal off Victory Rush.

For anyone farming him, I recommend killing time between his 5-8 minute spawn times by walking into The Grinding Quarry (the room before his spawn point) and looking for the rare spawn,
The Behemoth.
He popped up for me twice in 30 minutes and dropped blues both times.
Made the 8 times I had to own Overmaster Pyron's singed behind a little more bearable. Enjoy!

Patch 3.3.5
Did it quite easy with my affliction Warlock lvl 50 (well geared).
I cleaned the area (some 48-49 black iron dwarfs) and then faced Pyron, feeling a lot of respect for its 11k hp. Just in case, I got buffed with
Clamette Magnifique
and
Greater Arcane Elixir
, which next with my spellstone gave around 300-320 SP. First moments in fight were running well, then came too close and hit quite hard, but just because I was not in the right place. Then I started spamming fear and Corruption DoTs would heal me. I could keep on spamming fear and UA, CoA, even some SB when proc. Didn't touch me again. Never thought it could have been so easy.
Dropped the
Cloak of Fire pattern
, too. And on the way back, the dwarfes had respawned and one of them gave me
Kang the Decapitator
. Nice deal.
