These guys have a passive ability to reflect spells, i believe. It seems to happen about a third of the time.

if you are an alchemist, these guys are really good for trying to get living essences. they drop essences of earth about 13% of the time, which means about 1 in 8 drops. transmute it, and you know the rest.

These elementals share their spawn point with packs of Flamekin Torchers and Ragers. Make sure to kill them off as well if you plan on farming the Greater Obsidian Elementals.

At level 60 these mobs give 5 Hydraxian Waterlord reputation per kill, at least as long as you're neutral. I can't speak for post 60 or higher reputation levels.

They reflect spells like crazy and are resistant to Fire spells. If you are a Fire Mage, put your Frost spells back on your hotbar and prepare to use Arcane Missiles.

These are crazy. I killed myself with the following rotation: Pyroblast, Fireball, Fireblast and instant Pyroblast. Took like 5 seconds to kill myself :P Seems like they all reflected back!

I agree with Kuja, I also have a fire mage (FTW!) and actually toasted myself with Pyro, Fireball, Fireball, scorch, and Instant Pyro = Dead. i should have read this before i fought.

I don't know if it was just luck or if it has been changed as of patch 4.0.6, but I managed to kill some of them using fire spells being a Fire Mage myself. However, as you all have stated, they have that nasty reflection spell which turned me ablazed by a critical Pyroblast.

Another thing to take into account is that they are really tough to fight, since they seem to absorb part of the damage you do.

It's bad enough they reflect once in a while and for me just about every reflect was a crit so I'd pound myself for 1200 but they also take like 1/4th the damage, lightning bolts only hitting for like 150, pointless

You need to have 250 in mining (for level 50 elementals) and 255 in mining (for level 51 elementals) to mine these after looting.

Seems to be a bug with these things in 9.0.1 where the don't have any loot whatsoever. I've cleared every single one of them numerous times now, and not a single one has dropped anything.
