I made an interesting observation today while farming wildvine from Witch Doctors.

I started out farming on a character that did NOT have herbalism and killed every witch doctor in the area for 1 hour before 1 wildvine dropped.

I came back with a character that had the herbalism skill and got 3 wildvine from 32 witchdoctor kills (took about 10 mins with respawn rate).

Is there a correlation between herbalism skill and wildvine drop? I don't know but it may be worth testing if anyone is interested.

I tested it and dropped mining for herbalism and 1 dropped on my second kill. it might have been coincidence.

Drop rate seems accurate for 5.2. About 1 in 10 drop a Wildvine. And there are about 10 within one spawn cycle.

Just checked 8/23/2013 and these guys are horrible for Wildvines. There's only about 5 up at any one time in that whole area and they have slow respawn times and low drop rate. Felwood, which I did earlier on my Herbalist Priest, is the best place to get Wildvine. I got 13 Wildvines in about 1.5 hours of casual farming.

Shares respawns with 劈顱斥候 and 劈顱獵人, so if farming for Wildvine, make sure to kill all of these mobs for better Witch Doctor spawns.

Killed about 120 of these today and managed to loot 10 野葡萄藤, SUPER easy to farm with Cross Realm Assist mod.

With the new scaling, these guys are a little more contested.

I was farming the ruins on an alt on a new realm, trying desperately to get Wildvine for an axe I wanted the appearance of, and due to the high cost of buying the herb off the AH I'd blown nearly all of the cash I'd earned from selling transmog items.

I think I spent a small hour and a single death as a level 53-54 warrior before I'd finally gotten the three remaining Wildvines I needed. It wasn't a difficult or boring farm, because I ended up getting the Hyacinth Macaw by pure chance while farming. Oh happy day. I'm a collector so I knew straight away I was going to keep the bird as well as the herbs.

I killed a few HUNDRED of these on my DK and got a whole 1 wildvine from the experience. 11% drop rate MY ASS!

You do NOT need to have herbalism for Wildvine to drop, nor does having Herbalism affect its drop rate.

Yes, the wildvine drop rate is low, but these do drop. Fly a circle around the Ruins of Zul'Mamwe in Northern Stranglethorn and use a target macro to kill the Skullsplitter Witch Doctors. Don't bother with the other trolls. Don't bother looking at other ruins. The spawn rate isn't horrible if there's no competition. I've done this a few times over the years, and this is the most consistent way to get them.

There is no way the drop rate is 10%. I notice it still says they dropped the pages for the Green Hills quest, perhaps the higher drop rate data is left over from pre-Cata?
