This enormous crustacean can be found on the coasts of various points in Pandaria.

It has about 4 million HP and hits for around 8k-13k on plate.

Its loot table seems to be that of a generic mob, with chances of world drops and green uncommon items as well as Motes of Harmony and grey trash items.

Granted about 288,000 exp, but definitely didn't drop anything useful. The vendor trash it drops is typical stuff and nothing that sells particularly well or anything.

Edit: Hotfixes on 10/2 included a significant nerf to the amount of experience gained by killing these.

Gives extremely high experience for killing, 264000 at level 88 (290 with guild standard)
Simply grinding these might be an effective way to level, it takes approximately 4 minutes to kill one (4M HP)

Should clear 4 million exp/hour, which is about what I was getting trying to quest without any beta knowledge of the zones.

Note for hunters: despite being elite, King Spineclaw can be frozen. Trap him, tame him; he doesn't have special abilities, and is NOT exotic.

Level 88 prot pally - took about 4 minutes as mentioned previously - slow and steady wins the race. Unfortunately I got NO experience for it... none, zippo, nada and the loot was one tiny little "shiny carapace" worth 3 s. Don't think it's the leveling tool everybody else mentions. Boo.

You can pretty much guarantee that the power-levellers have killed the fight experience that these should/used to give - same for all the multi-million HP Elites.

MAJOR downgrade in most recent patch. I got almost no exp and the drop was one shiny carapace. After reading comments, I opened ticket and got confirmation from GM that the most recent patch reduced this elite's exp and drops to almost nuthin. Not worth the time.

Gorgeous hunter pet and the only metallic crab in the game (Karkin doesn't count)! He's a wonderful hunter pet and I love him. He's very easy to tame and doesn't even require trapping or anything. He also has a fairly short respawn time. I tamed him, then he respawned when I finished the quests in the area and I called a guildie in to tame him. Very, very nice to have a gorgeous pet that doesn't take hours to get.

So I went looking for this guy (he's so pretty in pictures I decided I HAD to tame him) and to my horror, all the King Spineclaws up there are orange. And boring. Where's mah metallic blue awesomeness? So confused....anyone have any info about this?
(edit) Also I just checked out the 3D view, he's orange there too!

As of 5.2 his size has been fixed to look like a mini crab

He no longer looks huge when tamed!

This is not a unique mob in that there are multiple King Spineclaw's along the northern coast of this zone. Most of the comments here led me to believe it was a rare occurrence to find one of these and I can personally confirm that there are many of them at a single time.

These crabs are similar in both color and model to the 上古蟹王 on the 永恆之島, which are also abundant but are NOT tameable, even though they are flagged on Wowhead as such (they are lvl 91).

he can't be solo'ed by a player less than 90,because of his large amount of health so stop lying and also the fact that he's clearly an + elite so near impossible at lvl 88
