I was running my level 17 Hunter from Theramore to Ratchet for the flight path. Along the beach I got aggro from the Elite Coral Shark. I figured that I was safe just running on land beside the water. Wrong! He came out of the water up onto land and one shotted me. As the skit in Saturday Night Live once said...."Land Shark"

the shark is also swimming off the coast of the ruins of aboraz. i just saw him about 5 min ago and swam away lol (coords 44.7 by 55.1 and VERY deep in the water)

just found him at 56.6, 81.6 in the Swamp of Sorrow. Decided against attacking him with my lvl 41 lock & void pair

I think this mob exists to add a bit of difficulty to a few Horde (and possibly some alliance) quests in Dustwallow, particularly the one where you have to swim down and pick up a chest from beneath the Theramore pier. Basically, be careful or be sharkbait.

I'm pretty sure I've seen a similar mob (or possibly the same one?) well off the coast of the Swamp of Sorrows as well.

Edit: Wow, ancient comment that wasn't removed. These sharks were moved twice, first away from the Theramore pier around 2.3 with the redevelopment of Dustwallow, and then with the Cataclysm it looks like they were moved all the way to Stranglethorn. The horde quest referenced above doesn't seem to exist either.

lol, there are many coral sharks about Azeroth and Kalimdor, couple of them in STV, southern savage coast and SW of Booty Bay...I killed 1-2 for novelty's sake haha. Blizzard should really implement more water-based activities ( READ: NAGA! heck, even murlocs ) in WoW...

There are a couple of sharks patrolling the drop-off in the Wetlands, too. They're elite, but not quite as high as the coral sharks. I've killed them a few times, but they don't drop much loot.

I just saw this mob out in the water near the fatigue zone in Swamp of Sorrows. I believe this is just a world mob and will appear in any zone with water. :D

My hunter friend saw a shark like this swimming in baradan bay when he was on the boat to wetlands.he said it was rare elite so possibly he is.but it was ? to him and he was 38 so its quite odd.

found swimming all along the edges of the safe map in Cape of Stranglethorn, near where the ledge drops off to the abyss.
if ya can fly, just zoom on over the water and it can be seen... fairly well.
found only as single monstah for me, 6500-7000 hp
smaller than a Southsea Mako and only 5 found in 5 min.

Word of note to Priests: Power Word: Shield does not work against this beast. I was on my 34 Priest doing the question Cannonball Swimming when I noticed 3 cannonballs on the ledge before the abyss. And I saw a shark that looked like all of the other Southsea Makos in the area. Wrong, it was a coral shark and it almost hate me alive. I threw up Power Word: Shield thinking it would protect me as I swam away (It had a skull for level, I was not even going to try) but I was nearly taken out by it. Be careful down there because they do look exactly like the other sharks in the area.

Found off the coast of Jageuro Isle, 21/06/2022.
Was scaled to level 63 elite. Killed it, dropped a Fine Longsword and Mangled Flipper
