If you have taken the quests with Olaf, Baelog, & Eric "The Swift", as a Hunter it is near impossible to tame it, but I found a way.

First off it's a good idea have the Glyph of Tame Beast handy, & to have any pets dismissed. Next, lure the 3 into a battle, preferable with a couple of the dragon NPCs nearby, then move away once they are fighting & disengage from them using Feign Death, (and/or Shadow Meld if you are a Night Elf), move near Kalixx & wait for the trio to die. Once they do you may or may not still have to dismiss them, one time they didn't, but on the attempt that was successful the automatically dismissed. Tame Kalixx ASAP, if you are not quick enough the trio will return, in fact once tamed 2 of the dwarves did just that.

It was frustrating trying to figure this out, abandoning quests, re-logging, nothing will remove them as your "pet" once obtained, so I hope this quick guide will help you out. I'm at least happy that Kalixx wasn't killed or tamed by any other players during my ordeal, quite lucky.

He appeared at 4:35am on the Hellscream server, at cords 31.98, 35.44. I just put down my icetrap and then he was an easy tame.
