Swarms of these appear in The Chamber of the Stars after you reach a certain point in the Harrison Jones quest chain (after the statues are broken). Once they appear they should be a permanent fixture. They're tameable, as are the 翡翠甲蟲s, 藍寶石甲蟲s and 青色甲蟲s which also appear around the chamber.

These despawn if you turn in Just a Fancy Cockroach. You might want to avoid finishing the quest if you are a hunter and might want to change skins, as the Turquoise and Amethyst are both unique skins.

Taming this guy was definitely worth it for me, the color palette is unique (and awesome looking in my opinion), and it's a one time only skin.

For hunters collecting unique pets, this and the turquoise beetle are great.

If you are like me and stupidly turned this quest in before taming your favorite color, try spamming traps near the debris in the corner that has the beetle spawns you want. If you get lucky, one of the beetles will trigger your trap, and jump into your phase.

They seem to have put some permanent, unphased mobs in now, so you can just go to the spot and tame them.

As of patch 5.4.8 I had already completed this quest long ago and the trap trick worked to an extent as to say the scarabs triggered my traps however, they never came out of phasing, that is until you use a snake trap to engage a small bit of combat this caused the scarabs to fight and bring them into phase with me and allowed me to tame. Happy hunting

So everybody who is currently looking to tame this pet in 5.4.8 without doing any quest and finds the other comments a bit confusing. here is what you do:

- You fly to the Obelisk of the Stars, thats in the Uldum zone.
- You go into the giant holes in the floor until you see the giant statues.
- Fly up to the top left statue ( northwest on the map, thats the one you need for the amethyst color )
- Shoot a snake trap between the giant's foot ( i shot it a little bit on the lower left of his right foot )
- This will cause the beetle to phase into your world.
- Be careful not to kill it! it's only level 85 and dies fast! GL :)

AoE spells don't seem to work on any of those 4 types of scarabs, not sure if it's a bug or it's intended to be this way.

I have completed all the quests in Uldum but I wanted this beetle as a pet. I tried Promestein's strat but it does not seem to work for me. I used Freezing, Explosive, and glyphed Ice Trap (which makes it Snake Trap.)

The beetles seem to be tripping the traps but they do not get into my phase.

If anyone still wants to tame one of these beetles, I was just able to tame the Amethyst one using the trap method others have described below, using a tar trap in Survival spec. I did all the quests in this zone a long time ago, and there's just fragments of statues placed around the room. So I placed my trap around the coordinates noted in the map on this page. (64.2, 27.2) The trap triggered and the Amethyst Scarabs spawned. I did notice that by placing traps by some of the other parts of broken statue, in different areas of that room, other colors of scarabs will spawn as well. (I recall seeing an emerald color one, I think.)

Here's how to get to the area under the Obelisk of the Stars where you can tame yourself an Amethyst Scarab, if you haven't done any of the Uldum quests yet (I'm elaborating on Niaw's comments from 2010).

Talk with Zidormi and ask to be shown the Uldum of the Cataclysm. Then find Adarrah in Tanaris, and join her caravan as it travels into Uldum. Follow that quest chain along until you get to Impending Retribution. While gathering information for the king, you will run into a fellow named Mack who offers you Take it to 'Em!. That leads you to hijinx with Harrison Jones that includes Tipping The Balance, during which the Amethyst, Emerald, Sapphire, and Turquoise Scarabs become available to be tamed. As Feliador says, they remain available until you kill 20 of the poor things and complete the quest Just a Fancy Cockroach. If you leave well enough alone after Do The Honors, all four scarabs will be available to you in the future....

I just tamed one of these today. I talked to 茲多米 to go back to the Cataclysm times and when I flew in again, there were piles of them running around on the floor beside broken statutes.
