This guy is merciless. He never resets once you pull him. I just pulled him and ran away in seal form (which is as fast as the seahorse mount when glyphed) to the other end of the zone. When I dropped out of combat half-way, I thought that was the end of it. Not so. A few minutes later he appeared on my screen; still chasing me despite me not being in combat anymore.

He crit me for 1.4 million damage.

After following him for about 8min, I'm pretty sure he swims in a loop around the border of the Abyssal depths, cutting through the Abyssal Breach.

Also, confirmed that he never resets aggro unless you get him to evade at Silver Tide Hollow, and he can be kited onto land.

I hope it's possible to take him to Stormwind somehow.

I found him at about the same place shown in the map above, and deciced to try and kite him to Stormwind.

It's possible to fly to and from Stormwind to Vash'jir but there was no way i could kite him and fly at the same time, so i would try to swim in my Aquatic Form from Kelp'Thar Forest to Dun Morogh, a shorter path of water, and then keep kiting him down the coast until we reached Stormwind.

I went close and Faerie Fire'd him. After a painfully slow kiting to about the northern border of the Abyssal Depths with the Shimmering Expanse, already on the surface, something weird happened.

My Faerie Fire reached 0 seconds remaining, he stopped targetting me and just stood still while i tried to cast Faerie Fire again, and after about 10 seconds of this he just dissapeared.

Oops, just found him again, i will try to kite him once more.

EDIT1:

Alright, this time i was far more successful. Here's how it went.

Again, i Faerie Fire'd him, brought him to surface and kept him coming, regularly refreshing Faerie Fire, all the way to the eastern border of Kelp'Thar Forest. I barely made the swim from Kelp'Thar to Dun Morogh, but i managed to survive and bring him all the way.

From there, it was a slow kite all the way down the coast, constantly refreshing Faerie Fire, until i saw the Stormwind Harbor lighthouse and i got filled with joy. I kept bringing him, looking for an entry point.

So, i found a way to get to the land and expected him to follow me. Unfortunately, he just froze again at the place shown in the screenshot. When i noticed he wasn't moving, i hopped back into the water and started casting Moonfire and Faerie Fire but he just evaded them, and eventually dissapeared. :(

I made quite some progress, though. You can say he WAS kited into Stormwind, but he didn't touched the land. I'll keep trying and hopefully find a way to bring him to Stormwind grounds.

EDIT2:

It's useless. I've been trying to kite him to land, but it just doesn't work. He'll just evade and disappear.

If someone knows how to avoid this, please inform me.

Don't know how to add pins to the map, but just followed him compleatly around the Zone, the reason he seemingly appears and dissappears is because he goes off the edge of the land into open water in a few places and swims quite deep down in others.

His path goes from the middle of the gap between Abyssal Depths and Shimering Expanse, (at this point he is at his lowest in his path, far below the level's of the caves to his left) heading northwards.

When he reaches the Abyssal Breach he starts heading to the west of the whirlpool, ascending as he goes and slowly turning westwards, untill he is level with the land to the north of the whirlpool.

He then moves in a westerly direction (a few hundred yards from the edge of the land) slowly turning south and descending untill he is level with Deepfin Ridge.

From the Northwest point of Deepfin Ridge he then travels southwest across the open water and starts ascending rapidly inorder to swim over the ridgeline to the west of L'Ghorek.

He then swims in a south easterly direction over the Abandoned Reef and descend's rapidly off of the south eastern point.

He then travels eastwards, (very deep down) until he turns northward into the gap between Abyssal Depths and Shimering Expanse to close the circle.

Popped up on my screen in the Abadonded Reef while I was camping for Ghostcrawler. Just did the Whale Shark kite a few days ago, so I thought I'd give it a shot.
Moves slightly slower than strafing, so it's an easy kite/kill for anyone that attack on the move. Took me 8 minutes to kill him on my SV hunter, pet despawned mid fight due to range and I didn't bother resummoning. Dropped a whooping 40 silver (at least better than nothing like the Whale Shark).

Saw this mother when I was looking for Ghostcrawler, it scared my half to death! saw him around 1:50 PM on Earthern Ring (US)

He was swimming as fast as the Abyssal Seahorse mount and occasionaly went off the edge . He is NOT one of the world bosses and hits like a tank. no idea what the respawn time is or about how much gold he drops. If you camp for Ghostcrawler or another rare don't go afk above the floor. Chances are he will attack and kill you. Good luck if you want to kill him!

My guild just down him and he dropped all of 60 silver that was it, can not be melee'd so you need to kite like a whale shark

Just 3 manned him. we had 2 DKs and a Warrior. The DK tank was in frost spec with BP. he kited him in a big circle laying DnD's and howling blasts while the other two of us held about 3k dps so as not to pass aggro on the tank. Very simple to do. he dropped 7 silver and 3 Embersilk Cloth.

Soloed as an fire mage, with the firestarter talent you can just spam scorch forever and swim/strafe around in one big circle while keeping atleast 15-20 yards rather easy to be fair, just takes sometime

Killed on my fresh 85 hunter alt with my feral druid guildmate helping. I kited him while he killed. Took forever and he dropped 34 silver. :( And you can't even skin him! Still, was a fun time and a good way to show off your kiting abilities at least.

Now if only Ghostcrawler would spawn...

I was able to solo this thing as a BM hunter in mostly blues. I am not kidding when I say that it took me half an hour to kill it. To my displeasure, he only dropped 27 silver and a violet morel. Don't waste your time killing this thing like I did.

I just recently Killed Kolorath.... I'm a hunter. BM. Dusksniper - Skullcrusher (US). I kited him around the spots where Ghostcrawler spawns. in a circle there. It wasn't too hard. Had a few close calls. Got some video (with a camcorder, no Fraps, because I just all of a sudden saw it and decided to try to kill it thinking I'd fail). I also took some screenshots. I can't confirm that he's a force to be reckoned with because I owned his ass... Seeing there's nothing here about his loot, let me share with you... I am a poor character (If you're on Skullcrusher, send me money pl0x), so after my historic kill of over 35 minutes (Killed at 5:11 server time), I got ready to loot him. I was extremely excited.... my mistake. He looted, and yes I'm serious, 39silver and 99copper, as well as one Violet Morel... FML. thanks for listening... Back to hunting for Ghostcrawler lol.

he's quite an imposing looking character model, maybe also the fact he patrols the edge of the zone which is basically like an abyss since you can't see the bottom makes him seem more menacing.

This guy is insane. I decided to go look for Ghostcrawler and saw a level 85 elite beast with 60k HP. Needless to say as soon as my bear died in one hit I looked back and realized I'd just pegged one of the 6m HP superbeasts swimming around Vashj'ir.

All things considered, the 20 minutes it took me to drop him was worth it even without the grand sum of 28s70c he dropped.

FWIW here's a breakdown of damage done.

Cobra Shot: x358 1,989,096 damage 32.1%
Explosive Shot: x425 1,655,932 damage, 26.7%
Serpent Sting (DoT): x384 727,997 damage, 11.7%
Arcane Shot: x101 657,265 damage, 10.6%

Needless to say from this point on I'll be looking before I shoot, and turning off my pet's growl before I go after one of those things again since my bear did absolute bupkiss before being blown to bloody, furry chunks.

Me and a fellow hunter decided to go for this, after i managed to find and tame Ghostcrawler. Im BM and he was MM, took us about 25 minutes to kill him. I basically put on aspect of the fox and kited it in a wide circle with the other hunter in the middle of said circle doing just enough dps that he didnt pull threat from me. Hes a slow swimmer so even moving backwards is faster than him. Annoyingly, he only dropped 25s and 3 embersilk cloth. Yes, nothing else. So dont waste your life on him. Note also that your pet will despawn on him, or atleast a tank pet will as itll be 1 hitted and ull have the agro anyway. He WILL follow you until you force break the agro with feign death, so if u agro it and run, you just wont make it. Oh, there goes the Whaleshark, happy hunting.....

I just managed to solo this (boss)? as a shadow priest.
He dropped around 41silver, 3 pieces of Embersilk Cloth, a green ring and a grey axe
Took about 10 mins of kiting, keeping my dots up, while turning around and Mind blast, Shadow Word Death and Mind Flay him, when I had some space between him

My ilvl when I killed him was around 351.

I just realised that one of the first quests in Borean Thundra, you're killing ''his brother'' or something, a blue version of this guy, called Levirath. Anyone else think they are connected in some way?:P

According to Beast Lore, Kolorath's maximum hit is 12.5m physical damage. I dunno if it's my WoW glitched or something but it said it was tameable. I'd like to see someone survive long enough to tame that. -_-

So, i figured I'd kite him to SW on a lark, with my level 85 druid. He seems ot have been "fixed" because while he would persue me on my druid after i left combat, i swam ahead in aquatic form, to the next zone over and he never followed me. (I would wait periodically for him)

Next attempt: Shaman with water walking.

Just soloed him with about 7 other people, he wasn't that bad.
I was a frost mage spamming frostbolt, but even with the slowing effect he moved quite quickly (and sometimes the slow effect did not appear at all.)
Dropped cloth scraps and 3 silver split between us all. Well worth it.
We had a death knight spam icy touch and swim around in circles.

He was swimming out of the Nightmare Depths, very high up, and then he disappeared when I got close... Guess he didn't like me. Is he really just another 'Ooh shiny' mob that doesn't do anything?

I saw Kolorath on 09/20/12 at the south edge of the Abandoned Reef in the Abyssal Depths. Beast Lore says that he is not tameable.

I'm still laughing, because I had asked my fiance to accompany me in my search for Ghostcrawler. I told him that people have warned me about Kolorath.

I have a huge fear of having big things just popping into my screen ( My comp has terrible graphics, so the settings are really low...I can't see anything unless they're right on top of me. ) So I didn't want to be alone.

Well we found Ghostcrawler and then my fiance decided to look for Kolorath. He couldn't find him so he just started swimming off.

I was just sitting here naming my new pet, when I hear my fiance freak out behind me as he tried to move his character quickly. Kolorath popped up in front of him while he was on "autopilot". The location was 21, 50.

His reaction was priceless. I'm just glad I wasn't the one that got that scary encounter. :3

I was trying to find Ghostcrawler today, and while I was near the edge of the zone, this huge Kraken swam up from the edge and scared the crap out of me. I never heard of this guy, and I freaked my sister out by screaming. I checked out his health and stuff, then just left him alone and kept looking for the rare. After about four hours and not seeing any signs of him, I started yelling at Kororath and saying that he was scaring him away. I did /y and shouted, "You will pay for what you've done!" before swimming over, shooting him, and getting myself one shotted.

I managed to tame Ghostcrawler, thank god, because now I'm too afraid to go to Vashj'ir.

Another case where levels elude me... saw him, gold elite lvl85, I'm a lvl90 hunter so, no worries... killed a tonne of lvl85 gold's... nope... he killed my pet in 1 hit then killed me immediately afterwards.

Is there something I'm missing? Like when I tamed my pet Ankha, Killed me in 1 hit, until I realized that I had to strip naked before taming him.

OK so after reading the posts here i decided to test my mettle, metal and show you all how it's done.

I sent in my pet to attack him first using Attack and had Growl on.. then i opened up on him. Having such an insane bust as i do, he quickly went down to 50% before my pet was dead. Heart of the phoenix, Growl, pew pew and BOOM HEADSHOT.. all in under 20 secs..

i won.

Nothing dropped but 25silver and 30 copper

So here I am, on my level 90 hunter, waiting patiently for my spirit crab to spawn. (Alright, maybe not ENTIRELY patient.....) When I see a little red dot on my mini map. Hunter tracking Track Beasts! So I swim up to take a closer look, and of course, they always look smaller that what they are. Humph. I'm level 90, what is a dumb level 85 elite going to do to me? "Kolorath's Melee hits you for 527k! (966742 Overkill). That beastie must be thinkin' Umm, what was that? Did I feel something? Whatever, Ill just smuck it upside the head and swim away. Meanwhile, myself, "This does NOT remind me of my first encounter with the Whale Shark.... Nope, not a bit, hehehe..."

Now to the useful information :P

Cannot be tamed as a pet.
Hits like a truck. (847.542 - 1.258.666 Damage)
6199200 Health.
He is hostile to both alliance and horde.

Kolorath can be found swimming around the Abyssal Depths, and cutting through the Abyssal breach. He can take a very long time to kill, as there is a lot of kiting involved, and only for a few silver. If you want to take the time, Kolorath can be kited to Stormwind harbor, though I'm not sure if you can get him onto land or not.

I can't remember all the details but between one mention from Legion and then there is the mention of the Murloc stuff in BfA from Island expeditions that takes you to the murloc king in Legion, it mentions the dead part of Vash where I ran into him most often I am sure there is a secret here, now to try and work it out.
