Abilities:
Phase 1:
Earth Shards – Hurls a line of spikes towards a random player’s location. Once the spikes reach that location, they will errupt into a larger set of spikes which deal 1885 to 2115 damage every 0.5 sec to all enemies within 0 yards. Lasts 10 sec.
Ember Strike – Deals 100% weapon damage as Fire damage and afflicts the target with Emberstrike. This effect deals 1885 to 2115 Fire damage whenever the target takes melee damage. Lasts 10 sec.
Lava Bolt – Hurls molten lava at a random target, dealing 56550 to 63450 Fire damage and knocking them back.
Magma Splash – Deals 18850 to 21150 Fire damage in a cone in front of the caster. In addition, the targets will take 2000 Fire damage per second for 10 sec.
Phase 2:
Absorb Magic – Protects the caster in a shield which absorbs all spell damage. In addition, whenever the caster would take spell damage they are healed for three times the amount absorbed instead. Lasts 5 sec.
Enslave – Leaps onto the head of a random enemy player, charming them. The victim will have increased health, damage and healing as long as they remain charmed. This effect lasts for 30 sec or until the victim reachs 50% health.
Mind Fog - Summons a 10 yard zone of fog around the caster. Any enemies inside the fog will be unable to attack or cast spells. In addition, they will take 471 to 528 Shadow damage every 0.5 sec as long as they remain inside of it. Lasts 20s.
Unrelenting Agony – Causes excruciating pain to all surrounding enemies, dealing 1885 to 2115 Shadow damage per second for 10 sec.
Notes:
This is a two part boss; the first phase requires that you face the boss away from the group due to Magma Splash.
The group should spread out to effectively see Earth Shards, and move out of it.
Emberstrike should be dispelled quickly.
Phase 2 is where things heat up a bit. A smaller target will appear, and this target will randomly pursue a party member until it makes contact with them. At this point it will Mind Control that player. The MCed player must be DPSed like any other boss, until they reach 50% HP. Rinse repeat.
The boss will also spawn green gas clouds around him, move out of them.
When the boss casts absorb magic, halt all DPS. Stop spells mid-cast if required.
Also a gauntlet type event here, recommended to just chainpull through as the little adds will continue to spawn. Shamans remember to move your totems too as they love to play havoc with agro here.

For mages it may be interesting to spellsteal the Absorb Magic whenever it's up. Not only does it help fellow spellcasters out, it also heals you from the Unrelenting Agony, saving the healer some time and mana.

Don't know if it's a heroic only mechanic or not (Since that was where it happened), but if the mind control manages to run its full duration without being dispelled by damage, the controlled player will die instantly.
Generally only an issue if a single DPS is alive, though.

After the encounter is over it is possible to summon ground mounts in this room. It appears that no matter what type of mount is summoned another player can jump on - usually standing on top of the mounts head.
Pretty funny.

Important note: The above instructions are slightly wrong. The Unrelenting Agony spell
is
somewhat avoidable.
It looks like a mass mind flay spell. It is broken by getting the boss out of your line-of-sight.
Just hide behind a pillar when it happens. That's why the pillars are there. Once you are out of line-of-sight, you will not take damage, and this massively reduces the load on the healer. You can tell you are out of it when the shadow beam on you disappears.
The boss follows the tank while channeling the spell, so the tank can't avoid the hit. The healer can avoid it while keeping the tank up, if he lines it up very carefully. His other choices are to heal himself through it, or to drop a shield/HoT on the tank and then run.
The damage-dealers need to avoid the damage every single time. This fight is not a race.
This is all easier if the tank can get the boss up next to a pillar. That's tricky, though, because of the Mind Fog.
Most of the damage in the second half of this fight comes from Unrelenting Agony. Most wipes happen because the healer runs out of mana trying to heal through all that damage. Avoid this spell, and you'll win.
As in all mind-control fights, you should blow your cooldowns before he does.
The only other major threat in this fight is Lava Bolt. It is essential to interrupt it.

Another tip:
Don't tank the squid with pets, such as Army of the Dead, unless you're really desperate, or it just released a mind-control.
If you do, there's a chance for it to mind-control the tank. You're unlikely to burn through half the tank's health before the squid eats his head, so that's probably a wipe.

When I did this on heroic mode with four guild-mates, we achieved a successful down by using the above tactic of line-of-sighting the boss with the pillars.
We had a DK tank, one melee DPS (rogue) and two ranged DPS (Warlock and Mage). I was healing as a Resto Druid.
First phase is a simple case of damage avoidance like so many fights in Cataclysm; spread out and move when you see Earth Shards coming from you. Stay behind the boss (tank should pick up boss and face him away from rest of group) so Magma Splash does not do úber damage. Use any and all interrupts possible to stop Erunak from casting Emberstrike and Lava Bolt.
On the second phase, myself and the two ranged DPS stood behind the pillars LoS for most of the fight in order to avoid damage. I popped out every now and then to heal the tank and the rogue up when needed, and of course the Mage and Warlock spent the fight shooting in and out of LoS so they could still DPS.
We found that if Ghur'sha targeted someone, they could kite him a bit (i.e. just run away!). Further to this: as stated above, Ghur'sha will not MC the target if they are at 50% health or below.
We found it much easier to not let him MC people, rather than DPS them down whilst they were MC'd. So we kited in order to avoid him and I would stop healing someone who got targeted (unless they were below 50%!).
We tried this fight a few different ways before this tactic finally worked for us. Hope this helps any other intrepid soul looking for strategies on this guy!

If you're a hunter, or have a pet, be sure to dismiss the pet after first phase or you'll end up mind-controlled fighting your pet until death or reset.

Fight appears to be bugged; upon defeating Erunak Stonespeaker, Phase 2 never starts. Combat ends and the door remains sealed.

Today I was able to proceed into the phase 2 and kill Ghur'sha. I let Erunak attack me for about a minute, then I slowly dpsed him under 50 %. After that, Mindbender Ghur'sha appeared.
Since I too experienced the bug many times in the last months, I assume Blizz fixed this. Hooray!

As a level 110 Shaman, if you oneshot it, the door could bug and stay closed and you'll have to heartstone out of it to get back and finish the dungeon :/

On the US Battle.net forum I found a way around: log out for 30 minutes (with your whole party), this creates a 'soft reset', which will put you back at the entrance of the instance without your progress being lost.
Another solution is hearthing out and traveling back.

This guy still seems bugged, but now with something else: Unrelenting Agony just straight up doesn't break on line of sight, making this fight extremely hard, especially during levelling.

This boss seems pretty impossible right now, due to the level scaling thing. Even on my death knight I can't seem to survive this boss for a minute or more- Just too hard to do at the moment. Hopefully blizzard helps by toning this boss down a little bit.

My group wiped on the final phase but the boss didn't reset, the draenei guy was just there with an incomplete quest, but we could move onto the final boss anyway.
