These *CAN* be tamed. Hunters while on the island, do not have a frost trap available, and there are no stunning or sleeping items which can be mailed to them or made reasonably (high level engineering, tailoring, or non-tradeable quest item).

However, get a friend to roll a mage. Mages get polymorph at level 8, and they can polymorph, and you can tame while it is a sheep, since the effect will last for 50 seconds.

Can Alliance hunters tame this raptor? I'd prefer not to make my way over just to find out I don't have access to them.

Tamed one solo today, after first attempt at tame it did the headbutt. However if you can begin the tame immedietly after the headbutt you will have just enough time to complete it and walk away with your cool new color change raptor.

Also grinded out 2 levels to be sure I could get to level 10 therefore gaining the tame ability before these phased out. Not sure what point in the quest line these go away but I didn't want to risk it.

these can be found and tamed after the volcano explodes!
they are directly south of the volcano in an area called Lost Peak north of the remodeled oomlot village.

Those raptors are a font of gold at low levels, due to their drops, 鋒利的迅猛龍牙齒 and 尖銳的迅猛龍爪.

The teeth sell for 5 silver each and the talons sell for 6 silver each, which is pretty good at low levels. Let's just hope Blizzard doesn't nerf it so soon.

They Change colour when tamed.
I'll guess it is becuz This raptor got many diff colours in the same raptor =)

Colours I have seen:

Orange
Green
Black
Purple

I actually tamed this raptor 3 different times--- I didn't realize it changed colors and couldn't decide which one I liked best.

Then it got dismissed and when re-summoned my purple/blue raptor was now green! I thought, well shoot, the green was my least favorite... and then dismissed and re-called to see what happened and got a different color.

To be sure it wasn't a weird bug, I googled it before I left the phase or logged out, and woah- it's supposed to do that? how cool.

I did not find these hard at all to tame, but very few things this level are. Even though I tamed three, none interrupted me and only once did a respawn agro me.

I *did* grind about 1/2 a level of random stuff to get to tame it before going forward to make sure they didn't phase out; but it looks like they're still around after the volcano blows per previous posts.

Very cool pet, a must have if you make a goblin hunter (even if you stick him in the stable later, you'll have him)

If you want to tame this get to level 10 and time it before you do 火箭靴之旅 (Rocket Boot Boost).

This is the only unique pet in the goblin starting zone

couldnt a high lvl character fly out of the maelsrtom or deepholm and fly to the lost isle for it?

I rolled a goblin hunter around the start of cata, lvl 45 around Feb or so...realized I missed these, I did in fact, delete and reroll so I could tame one. They are that cool.

You cannot summon guildmates to Lost Isles to tame these with Have Group, Will Travel. So far this is a pet unique to Goblin Hunters.

Confirmed tame after Volcano erupts. If you are having trouble finding these amazing pets, turn on Track beasts, they are slightly further east than I expected. They are wonderful. Happy hunting!

As of patch 4.2 the color change raptors are no longer in the area.
You will have to tame this beast before you do the rocket boot quests.
Just tried today to find them and they were not in the area described above.

Really wanted to be able to keep my starter crab, but I just HAD to have this raptor. But the fact that it changes colors with each summon made up for me being forced to abandon my crab. Sure do wish there was a way to get my other hunters over there so they could have one, too. But one can dream, right?

EDIT: Also, I have no idea who put that they drop because there is no possible way at all that they could drop that, since that is a quest item needed to gain access to Gallywix's boat to get off of Kezan and over to the Lost Isles. And I killed A LOT of them farming for teeth and claws to make some gold on my 'lock while at Town-In-A-Box.

I tamed one on my Goblin hunter at level ten today. They are found in an area that is phased and never available to Alliance.

You might be level 7-8 and can finish the area before you hit ten. If you want one of these guys before it is too late to get one, then spend a little time farming to get to ten, train at the Town-in-a-box Hunter trainer, and go get one.

They are not hard to tame. You might get interrupted but just try again. My first try was successful with no complications.

You can get the red version (level 2-3) of that skin in Durotar, but none of the other colors are available until much later.

As of 4.2.2 You can still get these post destruction of the Volcano. They are slightly passed The Lost Peak and slightly Paralleled to the destroyed Oomlet Village. Just do /Target Spiny Raptor when you're along the mountain range of The Lost Peak. http://www.wowhead.com/maps?data=4720.2:632615

SO glad I went and looked up this raptor. I kept getting the feeling like I should tame it "before it's too late."

Good thing I listen to my sixth sense of sorts, otherwise I would have missed out on it... almost died taming it, but... worth it.

I'll re-tame a crab later. For now, I have this.

EDIT: And months later, I found out that I wasted my time.

Any of these guys tamed prior to 5.0 will have a colour-changing trait. They'll randomly choose one of their four possible colours each time they're summoned. They should continue do this, even after 5.0.

Any new ones tamed since 5.0 will only appear in the colour you tamed. The colour-changing bug has been fixed once and for all in MoP, meaning that nothing newly-tamed will show the bug (i.e. the data for the colour you tamed is saved with your pet).

After the Volcano explodes the raptors are in the far north-east meadows of the island. :D i'm sure because i've seen them there, and not as pets, but as wild raptors! :D

How to find the raptors post-volcanic eruption:

From the Oomlot Village go north between the pass that is surrounded by two large burning trees (57.2, 67.4). Keep to the right and head into the Lost Peak area following the ridge line. There will be an area of entry in the ridge line at 63.2, 60.82. From there you will gain entry to the meadow (65, 63) where the raptors are now located. It is the Lost Peak area up above Volcanoth's Lair and the Oomlot Village.

Either I am exceptionally unlucky, or my raptor no longer color changes. I tamed it long before MoP but did not play much, and only started playing my hunter again once I found an active guild. My raptor will not change color- I have dismissed and summoned it over 20 times, and it always comes back in the black/grey color.

Either Blizz finally took away the fun factor from those who got the pet before MoP, or some of them have "bugged" out of color changing.

Why it couldn't get stuck on green instead of boring black I'll never know.

i tamed one of these on my goblin hunter before Pandaria.. all was good it changed colours upon dismissing and Resummoning but now for some reason when i dissmiss it and resummon it it remains the same dark color.. i thought when blizz took a skin outta the game the people who had tamed it while it was still in the game got to keep it and if thats the case why does mine stay the same color and not change?
