Just wondering. Is 1,800 arena points alot. (Sorry i'm new to the arena system gonna make a team with a friend soon)

It's just ... most pvp items now require 50 000 honor and anyone can make like 1000 honor in one BG so when you look at items worth 1,800 arena I just wonder if it is hard to get to that many points.
And.
How do arena ratings work?
