I did this as a 29th shaman. To make the jump, I ghost wolfed, backed up a little, got a running start and made the leap. No big deal. Hearthstoned out after accepting quest (Menethil) and flew to Southshore. The guy to turn the quest into is in the inn, in the cellar. Take staris that are in the room with the chef, down. I still had plenty of time left. 3050 xp.

After you accept his quest and jump in the water to get back up, swim down to the Waterlogged Letter to start the quest Sully Balloo's Letter.

On the off chance that someone is making the same mistake I was, I'm going to mention specifics about where on the destroyed bridge pillar you're actually jumping to. I incorrectly assumed without a second thought that the NPC would be on the broad, open top of the damaged pillar. I was attempting to jump from the Arathi side of the span, starting on the right side of the destroyed bridge, trying to land on the right side of the pillar where a small piece juts out. I fell just short over and over again on a mount at 60% speed when I finally realized if you get up close to the edge on the left side, there is a strip of stone jutting out like a landing strip down below, and the NPC is down on that level, just at the end of that strip of stone. It's terribly easy to reach now with mounts at level 30; especially if you're trying to jump to the correct spot on the giant pile of rubble that was once a bridge. So stick to the left side, NOT the right. Also worth mentioning that if you die, you fail the quest. So when you land in Southshore, and the Horde that live there to kill everything in sight do indeed kill you as you land, you fail the quest. I found this out personally. If your server has big time problems with level 70 horde cutting down level 30s all day in Southshore, I suggest you run/ride in from Arathi and try and sneak into the inn - rather than fly into a warzone, and have to go back and do it again. Hope this helps people who may have had the same problem as me!

This guy is dissapointing if you find him as horde, flagged, has no pockets, and doesnt drop anything. Kill him anyways.

As a warrior, i started a duel with a friend with a mount, he jumped, and then i used charge. Very simple!

any mount ... any mount at all makes this easily reachable it is easy to get back up to southshore or do what idid set your hearth to southshore go to him hearth and there you go! :P

Don't make the same mistake I did. After hearthing to Stormwind I thought, "Hey, it'd be faster to fly from Ironforge to Southshore than from Stormwind so I'll just take the Deeprun Tram over." Bad idea. As soon as I went throught the portal to the Tram I "failed" the quest. The item was still in my bag so I tried to go turn it in anyway. No dice. Do NOT take the tram.

Horde Warlock on his way to get his felpuppy by killing the orcs in the wetlands, go on the wrong side of the bridge, decide to see if I can jump it, not realizing his spot is an island. I make it, then realize I am, indeed, stranded.

This NPC became the outlet for my rage.

i think needing movement increasing skills to do this q is fair because:
since they give u 15 mins to get to southshore u need speed increasing cause u wont manage to get be4 the time its just a thought not sure of it

what is worth mentioning u jump from arathi side to south.
there r 2 ledges tried to jump a couple of times on the higher than i saw there was a lower ridge. 1 jump was all it took

Just wanted to add my experience. i did quest at 29, dragging a 32 over with me and let it kill me on the ledge just before the jump. Made the jump with no trouble. Probably would of been smart to make hearth in SS, but since I just stumbled across quest for first time....I just winged it.

I grabbed the quest and dove in the water below. I ran by foot all the way to ss, with 5 mins to spare. So it can be done without a mount or hearth, but you don't have a lot of time to mess around. :)

If you are killed (even ganked from pvp), you WILL fail the quest. Some %^&*!@# paladin killed me just as I flew into south shore.

By the way, if you dont have a mount, a speed increase (ghost wolf or something), or the flight path to south shore, dont even bother.

For alliance chars:
On all chars made so far i combine this quest with http://www.wowhead.com/?quest=637
Once you grab the moonshine, jump down in the water and dive down to the broken catapult at the base of the broken bridge. Theres a crushed dwarf underneath, holding a letter.
It doesn't show up on the map as a ! or anything, but you will see a golden gear when you mouseover it. Click it and you'll eventually have +900 IF rep and roughly +225 rep for all other alliance (Gnomer/Exodar for sure) factions.

My last char was a DK which made the trip even easier:
Jumped down after the moonshine, took the Letter, swam up and used Path of Frost to autowalk to SS in a straight line over the water :)

No one's posted this one yet yet, but you CAN do it with a priest's Levitate! Never been able to reach him before-- it's BEYOND easy with Levitate. =)

The quest failed for me when I used my hearthstone which was set to Dalaran. It wasn't until I took the gryphon from Ironforge that I noticed.

I'd like to point out that I didn't have to hearth out or jump off the ledge to the water below to get back up.

If you're on the stairs outside his little cubby hole, you can jump over a small brick and onto a small overhang. I used a pair of rocket boots and jumped the gap and landed on the bridge on the south end of the chasm.

For anyone with a +60% mount (now available at level 20), you can go to the broken bridge side, coming from Arathi, go right to the edge of the ledge, turn mount to face square on to the jutting ledge at opposite and take a couple of mount steps back.

Voila! You're on the other side!

From the broken bridge its easy to jump aross to him with no buffs, not sure if this a new bit of enviroment they added but its very easy now.

No speed up needed, just use mount. This quest DOES count toward Loremaster.
