Can't believe no one saw this reference before...

A guy driving a pirate ship named Brutus? Anyone hear of a sailor named Popeye before? I'm suprised one of Brutus's drops isn't canned spinach :)

Would add some delicious irony to the quest, since the eye always drops off of him.

Soloed him on a 41 fury warrior; a little scary.

Burned retaliation at about 75%; popped a pot, gift of the naru, and intimidating shout for a bandage break. Switched back to berserker's and used berserker rage, refreshed sunder, and started to spam execute when it popped. Intensive on cooldowns, but I got the eye :)

Just solo'd him as a 41 assassination Rogue.

Pretty easy, Used a 5 point expose armor starting off followed with constant kidney shots and backstabs.

And a Blind/Bandage combo to heal.

No struggle for me. I solo'd him as a 41 paladin. He doesn't hit very hard but can take a beating. Thank god for holy damage.. = ]

As a 45 warrior, he went down slowly, but he doesnt hit hard at all. I recommend sunder armour x5, and just last it out. I still had about 65% health at the end.

He does drop the eye and he isn't that hard if you are a caster. I just dotted him up and life drained him 3 times or so and he was dead.

Destroyed him as a 37 BM hunter... Threw pet on kept mend up the whole fight didnt pop a pot at all. Just keep inimidation ready.

Just solo'd as a 43 feral druid, 2039HP in cat form. Didn't pot or anything, but geez, this guy has A LOT of armor. If you are melee have any armor reducing abilities (Sunder/Expose/Faerie Fire) keep them up, they will help.

Ok, we really dont need to hear the story of every person's individual kill of him. He is a common nonelite spawn so it should be expected that he isn't terribly difficult. Please only add your story if you are legitimately adding something constructive for this mob in particular, rather than general mob killing tips.

Corpse fades after two minutes. Respawns after approximately seven and a half minutes.

Killed him with a well geared lvl 41 rogue , he have a huge defense , killed him with 120hp left , using vanish .

btw , the dropping rate looks like 100%

Soloed as a 43 demonology warlock. Was amazingly easy, though you could tell he had a good amount of health for a 43. Had my voidwalker out, tanking the whole time. Keep the DOTs up and it'll be easy. Make sure your walker (or tank) takes out 5% before laying down the DPS. Got the eye first shot, after killing about 30 minions. Definately take this guy out for the eye.

Also soloed with my holy paladin when he was at that level. The trick there is to heal when you get near about 20% health. As long as you can make your mana out last ugly's health, you're cool.

I didn't have too much of a problem taking this guy down. I did it with my lvl 42 Hunter. The only real issue I had was with the line of sight. I had to literally be infront of him, just to shoot the guy. And the boat's angle wasn't even that bad.

Just killed him on a lvl 37 BM Hunter wasn't that hard of a fight just kept aggro on my pet, whenever I pulled it I would kite around till pet got aggro again

Rogues: This mob has very, VERY high armor, unusually such. So high that my rank-5 Expose Armor hardly increased my damage output.

Because of this, I suggest you simply bleed and poison him to death. He is immune to crippling poison, but oddly enough, not instant. Also, start off with a garrote, and use Rupture on him as well.

BRUTUS = EASY

I had a 43 Enhancement Shamman with dual wield, just used grace of air and strength of earth, 10 hits he was dead.

Soloed with a twinked arms warrior at 38, but I did have to use a healing potion. I wouldn't suggest it at anything lower, or with normal gear at that level.

Easy soloable as caster. 2.7k HP, I have 1200 (42 Frost mage) Stood in melee range most of the time, and he didn't even get through my Ice Barrier before he slammed to the ground.

As stated, dropped Dizzy's Eye for the "Keep an Eye Out" Quest, and Snuff for the "Up to Snuff" quest.

besides even a level 46 twink could kill him if ur really really tough!

as a level 40 retribution paladin, he wasnt hard to kill

he has a rediculous amount of armor, my white damage was doing 1/4 of the damage it normally does

keep hitting him with your judgements and hope your seal does the damage because that still does a lot of damage

Soloed as a 37 Prot Pally.
Took me literally 10 minutes. Keep Judgement of Wisdom and Seal of Light up and cast Exorcism whenever you have spare mana. Healing yourself is your top priority. This will take a long time if you are trying it at 37.

Given his position as helmsman on a ship, he may be a reference to the Popeye villain "Brutus" (AKA Bluto) who was often a competitor of Popeye (and in several Popeye cartoons, was a pirate captain) Rather than the roman traitor.

i killed him as a level 40 assassination-rogue with BoA Dagger.
I had Instant Poison/ Deadly Poison on my weapons.

Open with Garrote and keep Rupture, Expose armor and Slice and Dice up. Popped Evasion but it wasnt necessary. Fight ended after 20-30 seconds and i had 95% of my health.

I believe you are right. Bluto was known as Brutus in some of the early cartoons because of copyright concerns. This taken from Wikipedia: For these cartoons , Bluto's name was changed to "Brutus," as King Features believed at the time that Paramount owned the rights to the name "Bluto". Someone below said he's Popeye, but that's not true; he's obviously Popeye's nemesis. I think this is further strengthened by his appearance as a golem and him having unusually high armor since Bluto/Brutus was quite muscular and tough.

As said before can be poisoned.
Tried out both instant and deadly poisons on my rogue not less than a minute ago. Both work, so go ahead and stab away. Has very high armor, so be prepared for a "long" fight

The QuestHelper Blizzard has made is wrong about the location. When you see from land you see two boats. He is not on any of them. If you go in the water you will see a third boat, he is there.

He still seems to have a high drop rate for the Dizzy's eye in the post Cata version of the quest.
Also killing him did not cause any rep changes for me, no Steamwheedle cities rep gain and no Bloodsail rep loss.
