Need the staff from the ship, and don't have Prowl/Stealth?

Watch his pattern. He goes around the top of the ship until he's on the upper level. That's when you dash downstairs and loot the staff. Have a friend watching from afar (With Eagle Eye/Far Sight or not) or a stealthed buddy on the ship tell you when he's walking up the stairs so that you can run out without agroing him.

Just soloed him at a level 70 Death Knight. Had to wear my tanking gear and stay in frost presence to do it. I was able to keep myself up just fine he just has an insane amount of HP so the fight took a good 2-3 minutes lol.

His chase speed is a little slower than most other mobs, so you can kite him somewhat. If you have dots, stick them on him and kite up and down the stairs on the ship, jumping off the second deck so he has to chase you around.

He's immune to slow, as well. As a 74 frost mage, I thought I'd have no problem and I was way wrong. He was hitting me for about 1.3k or so and there wasn't much I could do in terms of kiting.

Soloed him with marginal difficulty as a 73 Beast Mastery hunter, mix of BC 10-man raid and badge gear. My gorilla was down to about 20% even with full Blood of the Rhino, Spirit Bond, and Improved mend, and popping Last Stand.

Looted 45s, probably didn't even cover my repair/arrow costs.

Kill him for a challenge, but the loot isn't worth it, just standard trash mob drops.

If you're after the quest, just sneak past him when he's on the upper deck, as noted above.

OMG....i got him down to 20k hp where i was kiting him down with corruption, and using shadowfury when he got to close....sadly i couldnt life tap enough since i didnt have enough hp and died....sigh i think if i was afflic my dots could have killed him while kiting him

Edit: Got him down with the help of another warrior by switching aggro we owned him only dropped one frosweave cloth....oh well at least i got him back for killing me...hehe.

Solo'd as a 72 DK. But beware he has 96k Hp...

Just gotta time your runes so death strike is available when you want it and both diseases are up when you use it. Helps if you have Rune tap, and maybe a potion.

Oh by the way, there's no point whatsoever fighting him since he just drops regular trash loot. Not even a goddamn "this item begins a quest".

Easy solo as a 73 Unholy dk, ended with full health.

Used Gargoyle, rune trap and bone shield no need of ibf.

1621 Ap
18 % crit

Just keep diseases up, comon rotation with death strike.

While the quest does not require you to kill him, any class that can deal with his rather anemic melee damage long enough to grind through his 96K HP can solo him easily, if not quickly. This will mean most tanking and healing specs, as well as any pet-using or self-healing DPS class.

He can be stunned but cannot be feared, snared, incapacitated (sap, gouge, repent), or rooted.

With this in mind, please take the "Soloed him as 54 mage with no talent point spent!" posts to Thottbot, where they belong.

as has been said, hes stunnable, whats not been said is that he is immune to incapacitates (as well as the other things hes immune against) so you can't sap, gouge, repentance, or any other incapacitates

Elemental Shamans: If you're killing this guy, just hit water walking, then rotate shocks and run in ghost wolf around on the water. Easy, but long kill.

As a holy pally, I didn't know there for an elite on the ship. So I ran on the ship with 2 mobs on me and I was at half hp and half mana, and i aggroed him. So i ran off the ship and unaggroed both the mobs, but not him! I attacked him and got him to 48% hp then aggroed a whale and died. He's not that hard, but he has a $%^& load of hp and hits hard. if i started with more than half mana and never aggroed the whale i prob woulda been able to kill him, but it woulda been long.

Easily soloed as a 71 Enhancement Shaman. Used Spirit Wolves, stun and their tanking helped. No other pets needed, just healed whenever Maelstrom stacked 5 times and blew BL after my wolves died just to be safe. I did need to use Shamanistic Rage though, went oom when he was at about 35-40%

For warlocks, this is the type of mob to bring out ol' blueberry.
Hits the VW for about 350ish, so just dots and heal the pet when needed.

However, as stated above, you can just wait for him to run away then walk into the boat. Killing him gives no reward, and takes about a minute or 2, due to his high HP

I think he is bugged atm. Tried to kill him twice, but after the first attack, he becomes "invalid target" for me and I cannot attack him. Just jumped on the water to not die.

he must be bugged to some extent. I aggrod him on the way off of the ship, and he chased me all the way to the Tuskar village. He then left me alone, and killed the guards who decided to try and stop him.

If you are a Mage, use your Invisibility as soon as he's near the top of the ship. Run like hell to the bottom of the ship. Invisibility will release shortly before you get to the staff.

Grab the staff and then use your Mana Shield until you get near the top of the steps. You'll see yourself drawing a tiny bit of aggro once he's at the top of the ship again. Use Invisibility when you can (yes, be patient... it has a 3 min cooldown) and then run like hell. If you aggro him, just jump off the ship into the water (on the side away from the guards).

I swam all the way to the other shore. It only took me a minute, and I was able to use the Westwind Lift (near the Ancient Lift, where you turn the quest in). Perfect! ;)

I'm a level 70 squishy mage. No way in hell would I do this without Invisibility and/or a Level 80 tank friend.

It was quite hard for me as i lvl 71 enhancement shama to solo him. I had to use my Earth elemental, my Feral spirit, my Shamanistic rage, Both my trinkets, berserking(im a troll) and bloodlust. I also had to heal myself several times.

Low DKs (70 or below) look at this page if you want to solo him (in French but just get the spec).
I tried as unholy as a level 70 Dk and got him to 50% then jumped over the ship to run as I was about to die (run far he folows a bit but then gives up)
Using the spec of the above link (mainly blood) I easily killed him with green and blue gear. It is a bit long but his damage is indeed not big on plate if you can regenerate health.

Problem is: you can defeat him when entering the ship, but his respawn timer is so short, you probably gonna fight him again on the way out. Although the challenge was kinda refreshing, fighting him a second time really annoyed me. "I AM STRONG AS A BULL!" he yelled as I dodged his attacks. Well, we'll see about that, Abdul. A 'Matador' title would be fitting here.

Got him to roughly 25%~30% as a level 70 Protection Warrior, note that you can disarm him.

Solo'd him on my lvl 72 Blood DK. Only dropped 68 silver. Got the quest item and he had already respawned again. So watch out when going back! Killed him again and he dropped 72 Silver... bummer

Note to rogues: 1) the lightning is for looks only - it does not cause damage or break stealth, and 2) Abdul is immune to sap and blind.

This mob has a spawn time of ~30 seconds and is a 72 elite. There are no other mobs on this boat and I have looted a maple chest off of it below deck. I went looking for but after an hour and a half it has not fallen.

This dude respawns right after he's killed if you are out of combat off the boat. He drops a decent amount of greens and about 50silver a kill averaging out to like 5 gold a minute.

Cool bit of information:
That tattoo he has isn't a specific texture for him. He's wearing an item 征戰迷彩塗料(襯衣)不適合女性使用

Unfortunately this "shirt" isn't available to players. Blizz just made it so they wouldn't have to create a whole new human model texture just to put a tattoo.
