Maiev Shadowsong, the warden responsible for safeguarding Illidan's prison. When Illidan betrayed the Night Elves, Maiev set out to find him, but had much trouble due to Illidan's new Demonic abilities. She followed him into Outland, and, guessing by what I see in the other screenshot, was captured, and is now guarded by Akama, one of Illidan's henchmen. Akama, leader of the Broken Draenei, Vashj, leader of the Naga, and Kael, previous leader of the Blood Elves, are his three top goons. From what I've heard, she (Maiev) sends you on a quest, where at the end, you face off with Illidan, and to ease the batle, she and the newly friendly Akama help take Illidan down. I am not sure if you really kill Illidan, however, because knowing in Blizzard, they will say something along the lines of "He merely feigned death" or, he may actually fly off at 10%, or more likely 1%, and leave something behind (such as his blades) which can be looted.

While she and Akama will join the fight against Illidan, I believe that the end of the Illidan encounter will most certainly be a scipted event where someone intervenes on Illidan's behalf...like say, his brother?

He is not trapped in the Emerald Dream..
All the arcdruids agreed to slumber in the Emerald Dream on request of one of the Aspects.. If needed he can be called back im sure.. He was called back at the opening of the Scarab Wall in forgeing of the Septer of Shifting Sands..
But when you are going to take on Illidan Stormrage, which is one of the main char in the entire Warcraft history, in quite sure blizz will make it a big event.. much bigger than opening of the Scarab Wall ever was.. And I believe that Malfurion and Tyrande will be included more or less in the act..
Everything less I will be greatly disapointed..
And furthermore, it hurts me badly that I have to fight Illidan, and truly hope he survive somehow.. but in the history of Blizzard, you are only dead as long as needed.. Illidan have been dead once already..

We only need to see Arthas now.. heard his voice but never seen him.. He was kinda the main char in Warcraft 3 RoC..

I wish that we could venture into the emerald dream, would be nice encounter the druids of the grove...would be something nice...But aye...illidan would fly off..but i believe his blades would one drop like every 7 days or so...somthing like that...

As a side note, in WoW, Maiev Shadowsong actually has the sprite of Blood Elf female, and anyone who says otherwise oblivously hasn't played enough to notice ;D

When she comes up to the cage, take note of her kick, roar, and idle animation of her standing there with her head tilting to the side like a retard, not to mention extremly thin stomach. 100% blood elf, why!

It should also be stated, for the lore freaks, that Maiev seems to be siphoning demonic energies, seeing as her eyes have gone green (As is a sign of demonic influence, when it comes to elves). Whether it's by choice or by force remains to be seen.

Her younger brother is Jarod Shadowsong, who became the leader of the War against the Burning Legion in "The Sundering". He faced off against Archimonde, and was properly "owned". But, he's not dead.

Maiev Shadowsong was originally a Priestess of Elune, just like Tyrande. When Illidan was captured after trying to make a second Well of Eternity, Maiev was assigned to guard him. After he escaped and was corrupted by the Skull of Gul'dan, Maiev decided that he was too dangerous and vowed to find him and lock him away again.

Maiev chased Illidan across Azeroth to the tomb of Sargeras, where Illidan caved the tomb in, in an attempt to trap Maiev and her Watchers. Sort of like payback for them keeping him locked up. Maiev used her powers to teleport out and left her trapped Watchers in the tomb to die.

Maiev joined up with Tyrande Whisperwind and Malfurion Stormrage and continued to chase Illidan after that. After reaching Lordaeron, they split up with Malfurion and Tyrande and Maiev met up with Kael'thas Sunstrider. The three of them were attacked by undead, Tyrande managed to fend them off but was swept away in the river. Maiev stopped Kael from saving her so that they wouldn't lose time.

She then lied to Malfurion and told him Tyrande had been torn apart and that it was Illidan's fault so that Malfurion would get mad and help her defeat Illidan. Which they did, stopping Illidan from destroying the Lich King in the process. Kael'thas told Malfurion that Tyrande hadn't been torn apart, only swept away in the river and he turned on Maiev, entangling her in roots.

After Illidan and Malfurion rescued Tyrande, they let Illidan go and he escaped into the Dark Portal. Maiev, pretty much driven mad by her thirst for vengeance at this point, gathered her Watchers and followed Illidan into Outland.

They managed to capture Illidan but Kael and Lady Vashj helped free him and Maiev was imprisioned.

When you fight Illidan in The Burning Crusade, near the end of the fight Maiev shows up and helps you defeat Illidan, finally ending her long, drawn out hunt across worlds.

Last thing Illidan says as he dies is "The Huntress is nothing without the hunt. You are nothing without me."

Much love for Maiev, my favorite Warcraft character. May she get some peace in the end, although it doesn't seem like it considering the conversation at the black temple.

Actually, Jarod Shadowsong is dead. He was killed by Illidan when it was discovered that Illidan had made a new well of eternity. That is why Maiev is so consumed with vengence for illidan. Also, it may be noted that Maiev's hunt of illidan was NOT sanctioned by Furion. He didnt tell her no, but he did not give her his blessing. I am curious to see if blizzard will do anything with Furion regarding the players slaying of Illidan.

It is hard really say what is exact relationship between Illidan and Maiev. For 10,000 years, Illidan is Maiev's sole purpose of existance. (She is his jailor.) So for the better part of her life, Maiev has focused all her attention to Illidan. So in a twisted sense, she sort fall in love with him.
On the surface, Maiev is hunting Illidan for justice or vengeance, as evident by Maiev's offer to execute Illidan when Malfurion entangled Illidan in Frozen Throne, but when she actually did catches up with Illidan afterwards, she only trapped him in a cage.
If Blizzard do keep Illidan "dead" afterward, I do not expect Maiev to live long.

Gotta say, in the release of Cata, the outland loading screen thing changed. Imagine Maiev without the cloak and the shoulders. Now look at the loading screen. Look familiar? Idk though it could just be me.

Well to be honest Akama only helped illidan to claim the black temple from magtheridon but then realized that the temple had only changed one dark master for another and that is why akama is a good guy in thwe story, i beleave he set "Warden" free to take her revenge (akama pwned in all mauls on wc3 tft ;P)

I like Maiev very much, my second favorite character in WC3 behind Arthas. About third or fourth in Warcraft universe when including Medivh and Aegwynn.

Too bad she got such a minor role in TBC to the point to be out shadowed by even Akama (seriously who thought Akama was going to be relevant when he was only in 2 missions in WC3.)

On the side note I absolutely HATE Malfurion, that guy is the ultimate breaker of "bros before hoes" code especially when we're talking about actual blood brother and a woman like Tyrande. He lets Illidan escape to Outland NOT because they're brothers or anything, gosh no, it's only because Illidan helped him save Tyrande from the Scourge right after Malfurion ruined Illidan's operation of sniping the Lich King. Good going there bro, God I hate Malfurion.

So as far as pairings go I've always advocated Maiev Illidan, yeah I know kind of weird since their relationship isn't great at all, but she does chase him a lot when it wasn't Illidan's fault that her watchers got killed, it was Tyrande who disobeyed Malfurion (again, the guy is against releasing his own brother from thousand years of prison). If anything I was hoping after Maiev chased him to Outland she'd get into trouble and Illidan would come and save her saying they both abandoned their home and should put their past behind and look out for each other.

Too bad Illidan dies, kind of bittersweet that he says "you are nothing without me." Although to be honest if I were Illidan I would quote Chris Tucker "We could have been a good couple, we could of had something special, but you one crazy ass ^&*!@!"
